Gents, I must admit to being somewhat disappointed with Celtic new signings (or more particularly, the lack of them). I know we had a successful campaign last year and we certainly looked to be building a stronger unit as the season progressed. What's missing for me is the apparent lack of interest in building on our success with bold signings of top quality goalkeeping (Forster is qualified not quality), a shut down centerback and a strong-on-the-ball midfielder who can create chances through the middle. A complimentary striker to Hooper would be a bonus. The point is - unlike previous years - I don't hear much chatter at a time of year when this site is abuzz with speculation. Is the ongoing Rangers train wreck limiting our options for this new season? Is Lennon really content with the team he has? Are there so few options available? It just seems to me that all has been quiet on the transfer rumour front. All petty arguments to the contrary, the League championship is a done deal without Rangers, but, where exactly do we place our Champion's League aspirations. Any thoughts on this? {Ed038's Note - It's only 6 days into the transfer market give it time, I expect 2-3 more signings and I think NL is going about his business quietly, Sevco are hogging all the headlines at the moment so that's why I think the papers aren't spreading as much transfer rumours as usual summer windows.

Gotta disagree with this post mate.It is widely accepted that we have the best crop of young players for some time. At first team level and under 19 the talent is there for all to see. We have invested in youth and do seem to be ahead of the curve in this respect. However, these guys have to be given a chance to gain first team game time.I would give you McGeough,Fraser and Watt(who it seems might be on loan next year) who have had some game time this year.We also have Ibrahaim, who night just be the midfield creator we have lacked since Lubo.
I also feel you do Forster a disservice(the hearts penalty save being the obvious shout) as his shut out record is pretty good.At 24 his best years are ahead of him,no doubt.Centre half? Give the boy Fraser a shout to see how he does, remember he never let any one down in the Europa league.Kayal also is back, and i feel we do miss his drive. The target striker for plan B i agree with, but as ED says it is early days.We have to be fiscally prudent, look at what happened to the old rangers!...........green jhedi

Totally disagree with OP. Celtic need to be prudent, c'mon check out what happened to the club formally known as Rangers. We have let a number of players go to save millions on wages and I feel Ki will be sold. With this money I'm sure we will reinvest in the players we need - GK (already done with a superb signing in Forster for 2m), a CB, a creative midfilder and a striker. We will have a net spend of zero of that I have no doubt but that needs to be the case but with the money from Ki and those who have left it could still mean 10m spent on guys who could net us that and more in a few years. That said, for us to thrive, WE ALL must back our club like never before in terms of season tickets and merchandise. Celtic are in our heart and without Rangers we will suffer financially in some sense so the only way we can counter this loss is through the fans. We have the best manager in the world, the best CEO in Peter Lawell, the best scout in John Park but without us fans this will fall apart. Let's show everyone what Celtic fans are all about as the club need us now like never before..................martyc1888

A strong on the ball midfielder? -victor wanyama, kayal? a midfielder who will create chances - markus henriksen, who is an attacking midfielder and by what I've seen of him looks like he couldn't get anymore creativity in his game. fraser forster may not qualify as a quality keeper but showed last season he has alot of promise if he keeps up his form of the last 6 months of the season. Alot of people are demanding we go and buy a quality keeper? do we really need to? rangers are gone and we can't afford to spend 3-4 million on a keeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with all except OP. I do think that before NL can really get into buying some quality players he has to sell a Ki player (see what 'm saying here bhoys). If we get anywhere near 6-8 mil, NL will then make some bids. Only issue for me is CL qualifiers are soon and still not got a real quality centre half. Hbhoy

I agree cash wont be their this year and would be good to bring throu a few youth players but youth players wont get you into champions league and this year of all years we need that cash we need a striker with hooper a cb although midfield is strong their is something missing in their to provide that spark you dont have to splash the cash but i would sacrifice ki for someone with a bit of speed

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand the OP but don't necessarily agree with all of it in particular the Foster comment. The big man has had 2 good record breaking seasons yet some still shoot him down. Strangely others pit his success down to a good defence but at the same time are screaming out for a new centre half. Some people should make their mind up and cut our goalie some slack. He's been here 2 swasons, signed on for another 4 so his commitments there especially when he could probably have gone to the EPL for a lot more money. I for one will be delighted the big mans our no1 next season and beyond

Time to let some off the under 19 year old squad come thro! Sell ki and add it to there budget, hopefully get a good central defender and a striker, no need for Lennon to be running around like a madman signing silly players for the sake off it! We need quality not quantity!

I agree with gary. i have been first to criticise forster in the past for sure but pleased we have him signed to a four year deal and the player himself will only get better.. and really all these people calling out for new players? when has celtics business ever been made public regarding transfers? i will be very happy with a cb and cf. that is all cause we dont need any more cm. ibrahim is the boy to watch next year trust me on this.

Forster is the best bit of business we will do this window. A guaranteed success at just 2m which you just don't get in today's market.........martyc1888

Give NL a chance most of the bigger leagues haven't even reported back for pre-season above poster was correct , sevco hogging the headlines ,I like rumour to but prefer when the player is signed ,sealed and delivered I still expect 3-4 good signings plus maybe a loan player, expect a few who is that players , remember if we are honest Henke,Lubo were ridiculed by the Red tops, Big Vic and Kayal were unknowns. Izzy will come good again with a proper preseason and from the limited time he got Lustig looks like he can fire in a decent cross

IN NL WE TRUST

Anyone critical of the big man needs to sort themselves out. Being our keeper is a big ask, nothing to do then called into action all of a sudden i think he's been fantastic. Lets not forget he's still young and years below his peak. I for one hope he's with us for years to come and can fulfill all his ambitions at paradise.

Hopefully the celtic management have better targets identified for bringing in than the likes of brozek, which was a real scrape the barrel signing. I understand we cant spend fortunes but we the fans deserve to see some ambition, a few key signings, and if we make it to the cl group stage and the money is more or less paid back.

A creative mid fielder ? and we have Ki, with Aberham waiting on the wings if we have to move Ki on to "balance the books" ? ... Yipe I agree in the general belief that big buyings will be a thing of the past (thanks to those who no longer play in the SPL )and big sellings will be our bread and butter .....CFC will be a half way house for fine young players coming up through the soccer conveyor belt until a lot of European find their true boxing weight and value in the mordern finacial mess ,then we will see Celtic move up in the European rankings and having some success .
With success on the field comes financial rewards and fame ,with fame comes the ability to attract a better standard of player and with financial gain comes the option of buying and paying such talent ....Yes ,I believe we are on the way to exciting things both domestically and abroad .... This is work in progress give it 5 years ,be content with local success and some moderate European success ,the bigger goals will come ...In management we have a fine team in place and in the board we have a grouping with a sound game plan in place,it will all come together and along with Celtics massive following will come a footballing giant awoken from its slumber ......TTTS

Agree0 Disagree0

Ladies and gents, we haven't had a creative midfielder with world class skill since Lubo... Ki is a good SPL player, but, to really improve, we need to look beyond the success of the SPL. Forster may yet surprise, but, his test will come in Champion's League not the SPL. Big games define goalkeepers. Though Rogne continues to show promise, we have a need for a CB that is a two way threat - offensively and defensively. The big money and success is in CL. That's where we need to focus.

Hawk-Eye designers have told Rangers they can't use the system next season. Apparently it doesn't work with goal posts made from jumpers.

Daily Snail reporting today that we had Henriksen watched last night when Rosenberg played Crusaders in belfast in the CL qualifiers.
Question -
Why would we be interested in him now that he's surely cup-tied for CL qulifiers or main comp?

It was a Europa Cup game so he is not cup tied for the CL.

QPR are supposedly after Ki, as he would be part of Air Asia's(sponsor) publicity in Korea. Daily Fail.

Ontario Bhoy

Believable11 Unbelievable5

He probably would. Any club interested in Ki will be as aware as Celtic of his fanbase, so they will have to pay for it. I remember Lennon branding him a '10m player' early last season, however 8m and he's theirs I reckon.

Agree0 Disagree0

If they sell ki they must have a sell on clause think he'll become a top player just a pity he's not suited to the spl
bigD

Agree0 Disagree0

Ki had already said it is not him QPR are looking at, apperently its lee (bolton) or park (arsenal)

Agree0 Disagree0

And now apparent QPR have made a bid for park (man u)

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe it was Cha for 8m ? {Ed038's Note - Bargain}

Just passing on what i heard there. ki is wanted by qpr in a deal about 7 million. think would be ideal business for us to sell and surely would fund a cb and striker. also few young boys for the future.

Kieran1967

Believable15 Unbelievable7

If he leaves I think it'd be far more likely that we'd sign Henriksen to replace him, and with left over money get either a CB or CF. If we get 7 million up front and put another 2 million or so in we'd probably be able to afford Henriksen, Ciani and Rhodes, although I'd be very surprised if we ended up with all 3. Kevslug.
