So much for the DR bull about Messi and co stating they would do it for Celtic when they played Benfica. 8 B team players started the game.. It was always in our own hands which shows the progress made under NL. Well done to the team AND the fans. Hail Hail.

Believable12 Unbelievable3

8 Barcelona b team players thou ... and they still got the result for us so how can we complain ... we got the same result at home against benfica as barca did {Ed007's Note - They did not get any result 'for us'. If they had beat Benfica a draw would have done us. As it turned out we needed to win, we done that through our own merit and hard work.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed if barca didnt take a point out of that match we where out regardless of our own result so how can we say barca didnt get a result for us ? {Ed007's Note - We needed to win, we done that. If Spartak had won or drew then Benfica would have went through, do you think their fans are all talking about that? But let's all pull on our plonkers because it's Barca.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with Bond.If we had drew tonight fans would be on here moaning about Barca resting players and letting us down. F**k them.

Agree1 Disagree0

It does my heed in the way Celtic fans go on about Barca wtf is that about? {Ed007's Note - It's not just CFC fans, the whole of football is hanging onto their coat-tails and brown-nosing to them. It's nauseating.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Two words GLASGOW CELTIC

Agree2 Disagree0

Footballs not different than anything else in this respect - if you want something done right , do it yourself. HH

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sick fed up with the Barcelona stuff. If you think they are that good and wonderful go and support them. It seems it's all the youngsters that do it, I blame video games. I have no interest in Spanish football except as a match to watch, the results mean nothing to me personally. Barca would be lucky to have fans or a team spirit like ours. We owe them nothing, never have and never will, if we had drew tonight we wouldn't have qualifuied, simple as that. F**k them pal, you are spot on.

Agree1 Disagree0

Glasgow celtic have done the spl league proud and scotland too well done

Agree0 Disagree0

Not Glasgow Celtic, it's CELTIC. So to all weegies stop claiming the Club all for yourselves.

Agree0 Disagree0

Uefa,s flagship tournament the champions league you would think, should be a level playing field yet it is far from it.why should teams be allowed to field reserve players or weakened sides when they have qualified from their respective group when second or third place has still to be decided.for me this is so wrong and unfair.

Be fair he tried - he went off injured

Agree0 Disagree0

I said to my mate on the way home last night about Barca playing their reserves. How many Celtic fans will admit if Benfica had went through they would be screaming from the rooftops about their team selection? It is called sporting integrity, we owe Barca hee haw. They didn't do us any favours at all and I hope all the bum chumming between us and them can stop now. My second team is Celtic reserves. It used to be whoever Rangers were playing but they aren't about anymore.

How sweet does that sound, we are last 16 of the champions league and there is no more Rangers. It's been a good year.

Just watched the highlights there . Big Up to Jamie Redknapp who praised the team very highly especially when he was sitting with The Devil incarnate and Uncle Fester.......DH

Believable21 Unbelievable3

He even had a wee dig at them about how he doubts they enjoyed it as much as him. He has been full of praise regarding Celtic. You get the impression he understands the economics and what Celtic are up against in the Champions League and what an achievement it is. Man City have spent more in the last 3 seasons on they're side than any team in the history of the sport and have 1 win in 2 seasons! And the worst record of an English team in the competition. Chelsea the holders and having spent 50 million in the summer are also out. It's an incredible achievement!

Agree0 Disagree0

You have to ask why the "panel" was made up like that. I just loved listening to Owen Coyle on Radio Scotland, class. Near the end all you heard was a shout of "Lenny ! nice one mate"; apparently Owen had seen Lenny walking down some stairs and was off to congratulate him :-) Richard Gordon was chuckling away ! Wee Chick was pure GUTTED lol Great night !

Agree0 Disagree0

I felt all three and the host were very complimentary to Celtic. Sounness was overall praising, but did raise a couple of negatives. He said Sammy was looking for the foul, nothing wrong there, he did dwell a little and did then get fouled.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ray wilkins personally is a complete **** did u hear him saying he thought celtic would be lucky to finish 4th in the group

great result i hope all that doubted neil lennon have changed their mind

i fear commons may be out for a while just seen a pic of his leg on facebook doesnt look good

FozzY

Believable8 Unbelievable3

Na, piece of p1ss for a stocky bloke like him. He was amazing tonight and never gives a toss what opponents do to him or think of him. I think this guy is one of our best buys over last 5 years. When on fire he is unstoppable. Kris Commons, we salute you matey. Cool penalty and made sure those Russians went home after getting beat by the glorious Hoops TWICE. Just a graze on his leg and some swelling/lumpy thing. See him in a fortnight :0) Stan

So glad we did it on our own merit and Benfica failed against literally a Barcelona 2nd string.
Yes we often surrender too much possession and we lack the superstars of our millionaire opponents; BUT... We do have guile and grit and heart money can't buy. Not to mention some great footballers.
Well done The Celtic on progressing forward when a good few more fancied and aristocratic teams were left to falter and fail.
In the unique arena of Celtic Park we are a match for anyone, with a support second-to-none and we haven't even reached top form this season yet!
There were a few mandatory dodgy periods but a huge Well Done and Thank You to NL and The Bhoys.
Please 'Board' give the manager your full financial support and bring in a creative/flair midfielder or 2 to enhance the team for the next level in Jan window.

JJ

Believable17 Unbelievable2

I feel one spark and that would be us..complete.

We have a crackin young team that NL has put together, a creative midfielder is all we need in January....and to hold on to what we have ~ Mrs E

Agree1 Disagree1

You make your own luck, and defending is part of football well done bhoys even a lotto win wouldn't make me feel any happier just now. JJ

Just in from the game..toes are numb, voice is starting to go...worth it ? YASSSSSS havin a party in the last 16!

Honestly we were the best tonight but luck got us through, need a few signings though.watch the game back just now just at 30min into it brown was his usual get Into them attitude but shooting was weak.dont know how bad the commons challenged look hope he's ok.

Also credit to spartak fans a nothing game to them but a fair amount of fans turned up.one did try to get onto the park tho and also held up a banner couldn't make out the last bit tho it said whiskey vodka and something else lol ?

Great news but when's the draw (ed? ) about 2 weeks ?

Neil Lennon interview absolute class, more ore less dedicated last 16 to Gordon Strachan & Martin O'Neill. Nice touch when Gordon strachan hasn't got a job & Martin O'Neill is having a tough time at Sunderland. Two of his biggest influences in football. Ian L

Believable17 Unbelievable4

Correct Ian, class interview.
Also, ive been right behind you in your defence of Hooper, the guy was magic tonight. As Lenny says. Thats why, when fit, he is first pick.

Joeshmo1888

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont think anyone has got doubt in hoopers ability is whether he is prepared to do it in the league or just the big games that puts him in the shop window he knows clubs down south dont pay attention to the spl and he wants to leave ... thats not the fans fault we just want him to be more consistent or if he wants to leave bring in someone who will be happy at the club... i think thats fair

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice one. A bit of. Humility in champions league football? Only Celtic and NL

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers mate. Glad your in the Gary Hooper fan club with me. Some of the stuff people post about him on here is outrageous. I'm over the moon he scored the opener tonight. As I know for a fact he has proved a lot of people wrong. If his mind is made up and he wants to go we won't stand in his way. As I said earlier lets reward him with a new contract. He deserves it. Ian L

Agree0 Disagree0

Hooper has been rewarded with a new contract... he turned it down

Agree0 Disagree0

GBNL posted on your thread the other wk Ian, backing ur points & super Hooper. I said it then & i will say it again couple of games back from injury & hoops der it is ! Great result great night for Glasgow Celtic. AbS 1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Abs 1888. Ian L

In his first managerial Euro year, he has surpassed Martin's achievements and equalled Strachan's.

Right who do we want next round?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Arsenal

Gary {Ed007's Note - We can't get Arsenal. It's out of Man Utd, PSG, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Schalke, Malaga.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Dortmund would be a great trip.henke7

Agree0 Disagree0

Malaga

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd take juventus! Wave after wave and all that...

Agree0 Disagree0

Give us man utd

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on it has to be United. Sopot Celt {Ed007's Note - Samaras against Rafael? Wanyama against Giggs? I have spoken about this to the other Man Utd Ed over the past few months, he is not keen. They are going through a transitional period just now and I think it would come down to the strikers and GKs to decide it. DDG can be a bit fragile but Rooney/RVP/Kagawa could put Forster under some real pressure.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Malaga.

Agree1 Disagree0

Would love a trip to Malaga

Agree1 Disagree0

I would take Malaga def

happy to be there obviously have ma prefrence but avoid munich and dortmund and a think we have a chance thats my opinion but

Agree0 Disagree0

Man u please, think we do them over two legs...

Agree0 Disagree0

Definately not Juventus. Malaga or Schalke for me.

Quack

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely not Man Utd! Schalke or Malaga would give us a real chance. As usual the cl heavily weighted in favour of the big money leagues. Why do you have to play home first as a punishment for coming 2nd? Surely home or away should be left to the gods, not giving a team like barca or Man Utd the comfort of a 2nd leg home tie?

Hooper showed his class tonight. Worked hard for the team right to the end. Samaras different class again. There is obviously not the same hype about the league games, but with the CL now put to bed until Feb, the league will be the focus again.

Hail Hail

Gary Hooper. What can I say. Apart from we need to get him signed up for the next 3 years at least. Lets spend some of our champions league money on our main striker. Ed I know you've stated in the past Hooper is looking to return to the EPL. In my opinion we need to try and pull out all the stops to keep him at the club. Also feel Hooper gets a lot of bad press on here, a lot of it I disagree with. I'm a big fan always have been. If you are scoring goals in Europe for celtic other teams will take note of this. Ian L

The NL revolution will continue tonight ..expect them to win and the Spanish giants to turn over their diving neighbours ...with that will come the loosening of PL's purse strings and maybe the purchase of a much needed creative midfielder ...TTTS

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Hope we win and worry about the rest later, dont forget we all would have taken the Europa spot before a ball was kicked so get behind the team like we did against Barca

Dannybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't count on it, we have needed that creative mid since naka left. We were told there was money to spend regardless of CL qualification, and sevco being in top flight...but yet Efe ambrose was the only one we brought in for a fee along with the forster wall, lassad free...miku, kemenar(GK) loan. Not much spent, don't see it changing just because we made it to last 16...the board didn't gamble for CL qualification don't see them doing it for the last 16. PL wants to keep the books in the black, not Red....too many transfer windows have come and gone in the past to know that we won't splash the cash.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm the 2nd poster after the OP, forgot to say..I do agree with the first part, I think we will win 2-1 tonight to go thru...with barca pumping benfica 3-0 messi will reach his 85th and 86th goal mark to get the all time record for most goals in a calender year...C'Mon the wee man, do what u struggled to do against us....Score! I know he ended up scoring, but took him over 180mins to do so. The great wall of forster at it again.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm a Rangers supporter to my toe nails and I seriously want to wish Celtic all the best tonight, I hope you get through to last 16

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry mate messi sub hope villa gets scoring tonight

Agree0 Disagree0

Ohwell awas wrong about messi and barca, but was right with our result...wish I put a bet on it lol C'mon the hoops! Well done bhoys u done celtic proud.

Just a quick mention on this before
I go away, been a season ticket holder for
10 years now, im only 19 but mcgeady was a favourite of mine when I started to really
take football to heart, Larsson is the obv favourite but guys we aren't the type of fans
To boo a truly exceptional, talented and
Comitted footballer and servant that mcgeady gave to our club.
I hope all our fans think the same and give him a really good reception.
The atmosphere will be great and we,re all dreaming of the last 16 and I strongly believe we,ll do it tomorrow.
just hope that we shoe mcgeady why we are the best fans so guys I urge to please salute the boy but obv back the bhoys in green more and roar them into the knockout stages.
Don't care if you disagree but it seems the right way to go about it, thanks x

Believable16 Unbelievable3

Why would anyone boo McGeady?
He gave us many years of great football and a much needed 10m on leaving. Wish they would all do that.
He's probably a Celtic fan, but that won't stop him being professional.
Hail Hail Aiden McGeady.

Agree2 Disagree0

Good call from the 2 posts above I also hope the fans remember that him leaving allowed Celtic to rebuild and whilst I hope he has a stinker of a game tonight we should all give him a good welcome on his return.

Agree1 Disagree0

Can't say him being booed. Only former players ive seen booed are liam miller and kenny miller but you can't compare mcgeady to either of those. Buzzing for tonight! oh its good to be back on here... MrCheshington

Agree0 Disagree0

I had the pleasure of meeting the team three times when mcgeady played for Celtic ok he was good and Celtic got ten mill. But he is the most sour face cu,t I ever had the misfortune too meet one or two times being like that but three times he was never happy and the money like many of these so called fans is the only reason like his pal Liam miller it's money these Peaple will never be happy in ther life so I wouldn't boo but in my eyes ther was never no love for Celtic from him so he means nothing too me

Agree0 Disagree0

Done his duty for the tic,got 9m for him and look where we are now....

Cheers aid you certainly helped fund our new team when we could have went down the pan with total pee pee players

No boos unless he scores lol at that I don't think he would celebrate

Lenny

Agree0 Disagree0

McGreedy isn't worth booing. He played one decent game in five and blinkered supporters think he is some sort of superstar. He wasn't consistent enough and to get the amount of money we did was amazing business. He played for Celtic so is one of us but he is playing against us tonight, same as Larsson, same as Bratbaak etc and I will only cheer Celtic players. Ex Celts in the other team mean nothing to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't see him being booed at all, I mean some of us remember a certain Mo Judas Johnston !! now he was booed lol
