Celtic boss Neil Lennon admits he is growing weary of media reports linking midfielder Victor Wanyama with a move away from the club.

Wanyama, who is on record as saying he is happy at Celtic, is under contract with the Scottish champions until 2015.

The Hoops are keen to extend that deal further, although the 21-year-old's agent recently claimed he turned down the offer of a new deal from Celtic.

Lennon placed a £25m fee on the Kenya international just last week - but a tabloid reports claim Manchester United are about to offer half of that amount in January.

"I have had a brief chat with Victor and we are both comfortable with it," said Lennon. "It is just a regurgitated story and there is no foundation to it whatsoever. It is just nonsense.

"I am sure (speculation) will be going on between now and January and between January and June.

"But he has three years to run on his contract and he won't be going anywhere unless we want him to go."

Believable7 Unbelievable1

I dont believe the story for one min for one Ferguson doesnt give celtic one penny never has only signs players out of contract and pre contracts he never gives any money to celtic even as far back as tribunal for brian mclair

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Ferguson not spend the money on a player he wants? obviously you aren't familiar with the reason he left Ibrox or how many times he turned down managing them because of it. Too many kids on here that are mini bigots and don't have a clue what they are talking about with football or how clubs are ran. Do you think it's Lennon who contacts clubs and offers money on behalf of Celtic? The man utd CEO will contact Peter Lawwell with any offer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tell me one celtic player that ferguson has paid big money for mr grown up man ?? his reason for leaving ibrox and his wives religion does not mean hes not still a rangers man {Ed007's Note - Is that Rangers or The Rangers?}

Agree0 Disagree0

Your spot on....some of the posts on here make u think if the guy even knows he's oot the hoose.

Agree0 Disagree0

"kids" and "Mini bigots"?? A kid wouldnt remember brian mclairs transfer to manchester united,.,.kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

How many players has ferguson signed out of contract or pre contract from celtic ? i can only think of 2 mc lair and liam somebody... maybe the reason he hasnt signed any1 for big money is that we havent had any1 worth big money in our team... well apart from larrson and im not sure but didnt he say he tried to sign him and celtic said no or he d liked to have signed him.

Agree0 Disagree0

What a load of tripe that Ferguson hasn't bid big money for anyone. Did he not bd for Larsson?? We haven't had that many Man Utd standard players if you are honest with yourself. This is a great and talented squad which is credit to Lenny as there is more than one top standard youngster wearing Hoops now. Matthews will play for a top 4 club and numerous others are EPL standard.

Agree0 Disagree0

No ferguson didnt bid for larrson he was asked if he was interested in him what would be his value he said hes not but if he was would value him around 15 million he didnt make a move untill after he left begged him to sign and tried his best to keep him

Agree0 Disagree0

No 2 do you not think its ferguson who tells the ceo who to put offers in for ?? or do they just sign who they like and turn up on monday morning you need to chill out in your old age {Ed007's Note - Managers very, very rarely have anything to do with the prices paid for players.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed i never said the prices of players i said the have a say in what players the board puts offers in for {Ed007's Note - Nothing like stating the obvious is there? And you do know that in Spain, Italy and some teams in England (Chelsea) the manager has very little input in what players are signed, including selecting targets. Sporting directors or DOFs decide who to sign and Abramovich has a team of trusted 'scouts' that have a lot more of a say than the manager does. They advise Abramovich on players they have found and hold regular meetings to decide their main targets. Chelsea signed players this summer before they even decided to keep RDM as their manager.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed if you stop spouting all your rubbish and stick to the facts ... does alex ferguson have a say in what players the club sign ?? yes or no ?? i couldnt care less about italy or spain the question is about alex ferguson {Ed007's Note - Are you answering your own question or asking me something? Try RTFPs or if you are that interested in Man Utd go to their site and ask me on there.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed why would i go on another page when am discussing one of our players leaving the club that this page relates to ?? {Ed007's Note - When did we sign Alex Ferguson, you really are struggling to follow this aren't you? RTFPs, but just do it slower this time.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Am struggling ?? the post is about ferguson making an offer for wanyama the other poster said its man utd s board that would make the decision not ferguson i disagree ... is that slow enough for you ?? {Ed007's Note - It's obviously not slow enough for you yet.... Manager's very, VERY rarely have any say in the price of a player incoming or outgoing, whether you are NL or AF. That was the original point, if AF wants Wanyama the price will be immaterial to him, he is not going to refuse to sign a player he wants if Man Utd can agree a fee, whether he agrees with it or not and certainly not because of the club the player plays for.}

ed any idea how long stokes is going to be out for at first they said 6 weeks or is the injury worse than they thought.
davy {Ed007's Note - He is due back in light training next week, Davy.}

Believable2 Unbelievable3

Hope it all goes well has been missed

Agree0 Disagree0

It will be good to get Stokesy back in the squad

Agree0 Disagree0

Defo will. As that Miku character couldn't score in barrel of you know what's. 6m euros somebody wanted to pay for him..... aye right jog on back to Spain

Agree0 Disagree0

Glad to see stokes is back soon, but how do you think tony watt and anthony will battle for the second striker role.

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is plotting a £17m move for Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama.

I'd rip their arm off. He's a fantastic player with huge potential but while the reported figure is probably over-inflated I'd certainly look to take somewhere near this.

Yatesy1888

Believable16 Unbelievable7

Maybe Lenny wasn't so mad saying about Vic being worth 25m as the media made him out to be eh !! In Lenny we trust.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think it will be 17m,probably between 10m and 15m. A fair price for a cracking player and I don't think well miss him with Brown and Kayal able to play as a def/mid. HailHail

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would any hoops fan "rip their arm off" for 17 mill? The fans don't get to see any benefit from a big sale like that, keep the good players at all costs, no point selling a cracking midfielder then using a fraction of the money on buying another prospect or half the player.

Agree0 Disagree1

Post 3, maybe you support the dead club, but 17mill will not just go to finding new gems(which is our buisness plan, hence we have wanyama and making a huge profit) but the money goes to make sure the club is well off and will be around in the long term. As well as fund other areas of the club like our already great youth team. Look at what we did with such low transfer money to get the players compared to the huge profit we could make on each player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mr "we dont see any benefit" If we sell victor.Mate whatever he eventually goes for will be a massive profit for the hoops and not in cloud cukoo land we can't possibly compete wae EPL its as simple as that and we all know that. I just hope he doesnae end up at the manc n waits 4 his move tae spain. we'll take the dosh wish him well and mv

Celtic ace victor wanyama to man utd for 17m, no word of a lie. It's onn another website. Sensational player but I would bite man utds hand off for 17m -Curtis

Believable10 Unbelievable6

Why bite off anyone's hand? Wanyama in today's over-inflated market is worth more. He was outstanding at the Camp Nou. Not great or good but outstanding. The boy is 21 and if he continues to develop he will be one of the best midfielders of his generation. I see what ordinary players are going for in the premiership, players who cannot cut it internationally. There are a few at Man Utd how much would they go for. 17m is a lot of money but we are playing the big boys these days and if anyone want our most effective player they better be prepared to pay the price. Inflated or otherwise

Agree0 Disagree0

He wont be going for 17 million so get off your high horse fs, hes a good player yes, but being a good player in spl is not worth much these days, and he was outstanding in camp nou? he was chasing his tail along with the rest of the team, get real when pricing, its scotland we are in, and the player or his agent seem to be pushing for a transfer, a think hel go for about 12 million

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh so you know what happened there in Camp Nou. The way you speak with such authority and knowledge makes me think you must be a real authority not only on football tactics but also regarding all the financials regarding the transfer market. I know it must be tedious for you to have to read reasonable well argued comments from mere mortals. Good that you know what Wanyama is going to go for. Do you have the numbers for the national lottery this week.?. I think someone is on a high horse
but it isn't me mate. I mean (fs)...Sopot Celt

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I watched the game against Barcelona, did you? I never says I knew what he would go for, read it again. A says a think he will go for 12 million, and a think if they offered that just now it would get accepted no problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

And what you think is perfectly acceptable as is what I think without being on the end of disrespectful and immature comments. And since you are asking yes I was at Camp Nou behind the goal with a perfect view of the whole match. Sopot Celt....sorry I did not catch your name.

Agree0 Disagree0

Outstadning in the nou ?? i thought he was poor gave the ball away blundered for the goal and looked like a rabbit caight in the head lights good player but i dont see any big guns coming in based on that performance

Agree0 Disagree0

Well you were at the game you should know it wasn't an "outstanding" performance by victor, and my names John, sopot.

Agree0 Disagree0

To sopot sorry just seen that it wasn't you that commented on him being outstanding john

Agree0 Disagree0

We are all entitled to our opinion John but IMHO whatever anyone thinks about Wanyama or for that fact any of our players I think it is better to talk them up rather than down. There are queues of people in England and elsewhere looking to get a good deal and pay below market price for our Bhoys whoever they are. You should remember that in Barcelona we were up against probably the best 3 attacking players in the world namely Xavi Iniesta And Messi. To say we were chasing our tails and to use expressions like rabbit in headlights does not do justice to the excellent tactics and unbelievable commitment from the team in which I believe Wanyama did under the circumstances an outstanding job. Swap our back 4 and the best defensive midfielders in the world and play them against Barcelona at Camp Nou and they could still lose goals. We all differ in our opinions but lets stay united in as much as if we have to sell our players lets big them up. Sopot Celt

Ed Is Dylan Mcgeough carrying an injury . Just wondering why he's not been given more game time . Same goes for Ibrahim who I must admit to be a wee bit disappointed not to have really seen him after hearing good things about him . Sorry for all the questions but also do you think Kayal could be the next player to exit Celtic.......DH {Ed007's Note - The last I knew was McGeouch injured his knee in training a few days before the Barcelona game. It was nothing too serious so he should be fit or not far off it. I'm the same with Ibrahim, it was supposedly only his physical presence that was the problem. I don't think it will be Kayal that is next to leave, if anything his chances will improve when Wanyama leaves.}

Believable1 Unbelievable2

The bun today saying Fergie is after Wanyama for 12m in January.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah think he is injured but probably be back soon, would like to see us give the youth players plenty of experience just now. Can see Vic leave in january, hottest property in uk.

Agree0 Disagree0

Kayal just ain't doing it for me these days...I know he's been injured but he looks half the player he was

Agree0 Disagree0

Am I the only 1 who thinks Kayal should be sold as soon as we can get some decent cash 4-5 mill? He makes marc wilson look like a mainstay. I hope i'm wrong but he's not looked the same boy that we all liked at 1st since all the "niggling injuries" which are keeping him out for most of the season when(or if) has he played 3 games in a row? And as for the Victor bull**** sun story The govan geriatric doesnae spend big in jan unless he has to. If you believe that rag then he's the greatest midfielder in the world(xavi iniesta n scholes) all in the 1! do me a favour. We'll easy get 15mill in the summer. HH
