Ed

Amy chance of us increasing the bid?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Probably but they know what Dundee Utd want (£2.5m) and unless that's the bid it's a waste of time.}

Agreed Ed, a big difference between what we are offering and what they want even though we know the going rate. I can't see Utd budging on the price either due to their good financial health and hate for us. The only bonus for Utd is that it isn't Mike Ashley, Dave King, Charles Green or Craig Whyte on the phone!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Dundee Utd's hate for us? I don't know where you're getting that from.}

29 Jan 2015 16:21:18
Ed do you think they could "meet in the middle"?

Utd are in good health but are not daft either surely his "optimum" value is in this window his contract is up summer 2016

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I can't see them agreeing to any deal that doesn't 100% suit them.}

29 Jan 2015 16:35:29
Just because united value him at 2.5 mil doesn't mean we should pay it

Never go in with your top offer. it could be that Armstrong was looking to see if eltic were serious and he might ask to go, could maybe shed a cpl of hundred k's off the fee

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - And give up loyalty bonuses etc that he's due? Even if he handed in a transfer request, which isn't going to happen, Utd can still ask for the same money or even turn down the request.
Clubs and players don't need to do what CFC fans want them to do.}

Ed

Maybe hate is a strong word but we certainly get treated differently to other clubs in Scotland and clubs outside of Scotland. Take Johnny Russell for example who would have cost us double to what Derby paid for him. Plus RD talking about GMS before anything was signed didn't go down too well either.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Most clubs will look for more money if they sell a player to a rival, Juan Mata wouldn't have cost £37 million if he had left Chelsea to move abroad. As for RD talking about GMS, that's hardly Utd's fault and it was McNamara that spoke out. Stephen Thompson is a good chairman who looks after Dundee Utd well, just because he backs his club to the hilt doesn't mean they have any grievance with CFC.}

May as well offer their valuation or a bit less with a sell on clause. People are saying he's Scotlands best midfielder after Brown and we paid a lot more for him 2.5m is nothing to us. Unless CFC has other transfer targets and RD might not want to blow all his budget on one player

Actually that is a very good point I rate him with as much potential as brown had and we paid much more for him, and he was worth every penny . Maybe this goes back to the discussion earlier about buying proven Scottish players over taking risks with players who might not suit spl .

To be honest, he's worth it - to us and to them. We should be offering that, and they shouldn't be accepting (much) lower. Why would they? They have two possible cup finals and could feasibly finish 2nd (or 3rd), all of which he is going to help towards.

I think the best we could hope for would be to offer the full 2.5million for him, and GMS. United may take it - but even then, that would only work if we gave them enough time to get in replacements.

I would offer them £2.5m for both Armstrong and GMS. and offer them the likes of McGregor, Twardzik or Rogic on loan

The boy is worth 3m! We can't keep neglecting Scottish talent with massive potential RD said he is like Thomas muller of Bayern but I don't agree but what an addition Armstrong and GMS would be! We've bearly spent anything and sold a good few players for a lot of money and signed some iffy ones for about the 2m mark on on Why not spend 3m on what we know we are getting?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jan 2015 14:22:38
SOS BHOY I agree, we've spent £2m-£3m on utter rubbish. At least with Stuart Armstrong you know you're getting a good player. Hand over the 2.5m THE NOW.

No way theyr'e losing Armstrong and GMS this window.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't be too sure about that.....

Ed

Why with Utd in such a good financial position would they be willing to lose both in the same window? Hope you are right though as you seem to know something we don't.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Offer them the right money and Utd will sell.}

31 Jan 2015 01:06:57
Ed do u think we will get Armstrong?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Yes I do although we might need to wait until the summer but Monday could turn out to be an interesting day.}

Hi all don't know how true these rumours are but will give us something to think and talk about
•Celtic are keeping tabs on Argentine striker Sergio Araujo, who is currently on loan at Spanish side Las Palmas from Boca Juniors.
•Celtic still interested in signing winger Charis Mavrias from Sunderland
•Gary MacKay Steven could yet be signed this month, expect a last minute move on deadline day.
•Celtic have scouted 19 year old midfielder Alex Mowatt from Leeds Utd.
•Two time Celtic trialist Michael Duffy from Derry City may be heading to Championship after Celtic seemed to have cooled interest on the player. He did make a big impact while he was at Celtic Park.

Never seen that Araujo link. He was the "next Saviola" a while back wasn't he? So that means loads of potential that goes nowhere?! Might be interesting. I reckon we'll see two totally left field signings two hours before the deadline.
