maybe the 4 mill was their first response to an inquiry and we will offer 1 mill and so on would like us to get him and maybe the board are going to try and get him in to appease the whiner's in our support or could just be paper talk as tony2bhoy said.

I think it was closer to £3 million! With Finnbogason - well he's not a project, not young enough, and more importantly we've actually heard of him! Lawwell is obsessed with getting a bargain, even although all his f4nny1ng about costs us more with transfer fees/ agents fees/ wages, that's why I think in another life he must of been one of these super agents! To me he's the jack of all trades but the master of none! If there was the choice between giving the fans a top player who we can really believe in/ depend upon or the very notion of getting someone young and potentially making money, well I think the man in the street knows the answer! And I think he'd happily have every player in the squad like that! At least our children's children's children's children have something to look forward to.

I think Lawwell adds in the wages over the length of the contract when he's giving figures for fees. Boerighter was quoted at £3 million - Ajax said it was around £800k. Boyata was supposed to be £1.5 million, as far as I know that was his wages for the final year of his contract at City, and with him not asking to leave he was entitled to loyalty payments from them anyway! And now we have Simunovic who we heard was over £5 million straight after the transfer but is supposed to be around £3 million. Even the fees for Pukki, Balde etc were rather ambiguous! There's a fine line between good PR and treating us like prize fools! He'll be scheming away just now over his coffee and croissant! Ronny said yesterday that he's expecting us to spend around what we did last Jan, - that better be mind games because we need to spend more than that/ and or get a few good bosmans! I see Sunderland linked today with a Bosman from B Munich, he hasn't played for their first team, he's a giant centre half, anyway I don't know what salary he's on but we have to be prepared to pay around 3 players if necessary around the £30k mark, Brown isn't far away from that! We need quality, players who'll be first picks for every big game! I think it's time for Mulgrew, Commons, Izzy, Stokes to move on, and maybe McGregor, GMS, even Cifti going on loan. Watching that Leicester team last night, - they'd run over the top of us. If Malmo thought we faded in the second half/ weren't fit enough, God knows what Leicester would think and do! They also look much more athletic and powerful. Ronny has been here for well over a year now, I was expecting much more on that side of things! Unless Lawwell's not wanting the electricity getting used in the gym in the afternoons!

I have to admit I'm slightly worried by the news breaking regarding we have at least matched the 2 million we spent last Christmas window. This is the window where we said we would need to get ready for the qualifiers ( assuming we end up as champions ) . Plus we have a short turnaround again as there is the euros the end of the season. If we only have 2 million I can't see us strengthening the several positions we need to improve on ( forward, centre back )

Although Simunovic is settling in, he doesn't look like a £5m player or as skill full as VVD at half the price. He looks solid enough but if we spent that much on one player, we used to get much better quality to justify such a fee?
There have been too many duds and panic buys in the past 3-4 years and it is counter productive.

Finnabogsson hasn't really set the heather alight and maybe we haven't missed a lot We spend a lot of our time idle speculating on how much we spent on various players in the past and that's all it will be because we are basically relying on the SMSM speculative figures .

Would still take a punt on him at a snip not 4m though, Didn't they pay 4.5m for him? As you say Old Bhoy he's hardly set the heather alight so they're over valuating him a bit there.

Why is rumour circulating about McGeady would he command a fee? Would be hugely disappointed to see that money wasted on him he's well past it and doesn't deserve to come back I'd much rather Maloney over him. So much for planning for Europe if the board think 2m will help us qualify they're seriously deluded.

There's certainly no point getting him on loan - if the squad we have can't win at least the double we'd be as well all chucking it! We need players for Europe! McGeady is under contract for another couple of seasons so unless Everton released him, or a nominal fee then I wouldn't touch him. The Everton fans have been giving him dogs abuse since he walked in the door about his weight, fitness. Even Martin O'Neill said last month that in this day and age with the salaries etc that it's a disgrace if a player can't keep himself fit. We need 2 centre halfs - every top class club has at least 4. At present we've got Simunovic/ Boyata/ Ambrose and for me not 1 of them could be relied upon if we played in a European game tomorrow! We also need a midfielder who can sit and control a game/ actually pass the ball. And as we all know we need a centre forward. This has to be the worst defence and strike force with regards options in the last 15 years! Instead of improving we are going backwards! The window is already open and we have heard the usual nonsense already - we are looking for players in every part of the world, it takes time, it's a tough window. I'll tell you what's tough - watch that lot every week! Roughly £100 gets spent at every game with everything that goes with it - it's not just the season book we're paying for! That's why there's empty seats, - we can't give away tickets most weeks because people can't afford the travelling, food/ drinks and everything else. If the board gave us a little more respect and appreciated us a little more instead of the platitudes and patronising crap then you wouldn't mind so much! We need quality and entertainment and not a squad of 40 players who are all as average as each other! All this in the name of finding another rough diamond! No wonder I drink!
