Hi ed how's things? Who do u think the Cb would be if we do sign one before Wednesday? I think it's great the way the No longer rangers club supporters have disappeared as fast as Craig whites war chest. I get that Christmas morning feeling every morning I wake up now. ;) bigirishmac. {Ed007's Note - I have no idea who it could be BIM, if you look at the players that have left plus the deal for Jaroslaw Fojut was cancelled we are thread bare in the CB position. If NL goes with the current squad it is a hell of a gamble. I still think our best 11 should get past Helsinki but 1 or 2 injuries in the defence could cause problems, especially if we reach the play-off round.}

I've posted a few pictures of Celtic Park pre 1994. When I was at the Norwich game on Tuesday I was gabbing to my lovely friend about days gone-by & no I'm not old lol.
I remember getting off the bus on Dalmarnock Rd and walking up through old tenement buildings but with the Commonwealth games etc, i'm finding it difficult to remember..
Does anyone else have pics ?

alright ed, first time posting, 2 questions for you..
1. are lennon and lawwells intentions to not spend until we reach the CL group stage because personally a cb and target man are a must.
2. will the club be bringing out a new international away kit or 3rd kit along with the new home and away? {Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site. I am still hopeful at least one signing will be made before the Helsinki game, and I am hoping it is a CB. Jungle Bhoy will be able to help you out about your strips query.}

Alright mate,there is a new kit pencilled in for 2nd October.It's going to be a white top,black shorts and i can't remember the colour of the socks but should be either white or black.My instincts say white as both other kits have black socks.As i get more info i will post so keep checking this site.

THIS IS A PARTY POLITICAL BROADCAST ON BEHALF OF THE WHITE SOCKS PARTY.. we played in black socks from 1888 til 1932 , we won 32 trophies , we then switched to green socks from 1932 til 1965 { 1963 excluded} 32 years and won 7 trophies giving us a non white sock total of 39 trophies in 76 years. since 1965 , we have won 53 trophies in 48 years... white socks or white with a bit green 1.1 trophies per year , playing in black or green socks one trophy every two years.. man utd will tell you they ditched their grey strips after four defeats and one draw because they couldn't see each other on the park , truth is they thought the strips were unlucky.. BLACK SOCKS ARE UNLUCKY, AND THEY DON'T LOOK RIGHT. you can all disagree all you want but i will keep saying this . shamrock

What colour of socks did we wear during the 90's?
Agree1

Shamrock there may be more to this than bad luck, its much easier for an opponent to track you and see your movement if you are wearing black socks and a black top! The socks are particularly important because the fit is on the end of the black socked leg and it can be seen easily and tackled more effectively. Ditch the socks now! Sopot Celt

Poster has a point. Have said for the whole of last season that the po*fy pink top that the Bolton keeper wears allowed the opposition at a glance to know exactly where he was and what's more the area to target. We analyse blood, oxygen levels, dietry supplements etc. etc. Why is this point so wrong. I agre that dark colours are not the best targets on a park with so much confusion in the background.
Agree0

To jason, people agree with me,, to 2nd reply we wore all white from 65 til 92 and then in 93 we started puting green into them , so if your point was rangers 9 in a row, that kinda supports my theory. they did that after we stopped wearing all white socks. shamrock

Ed is there any truth in the Simon Cox story? I really hope its no more than a rumour we already have a striker in Samaras that doesn't score enough goals.

I think that Celtic will try to sell a striker or 2 before we buy another one. I think we will try to get in a cheap central defender in but club in no hurry they'll be trying to see how we do against Helsinki first.
Agree0
Disagree0
To be honest, we could buy Cox and play him upfront by himself all season and still win the SPL. Reality is, no one is gonna stop us winning the league.
If we want a prolonged run in Europe though then yes, we have to aim higher but it's a catch 22. How do you attract better players with very little to persuade them?
Agree0
Disagree0
Did West Brom not spend a couple of million on him to beat us to his signature when we were interested before?
Even if they want rid I'm convinced they'd want to recoup that, and they can play the whole "he's a Premiership player" card so his price will be inflated further and he'll offer him to other Prem clubs who'd just price us out if they're seriously interested. I can't see it happening.
Not sure how good he is anyway so can't comment on whether he'd be worthwhile, just a bunch of likely occurrences as are usually the case with signings from down south...
Agree0

I think the only striker we are interseted in is Jordan Rhodes and if we get through the 2 qualifiers it'll happen, if not Tony Watt will play a bigger part

There are plenty of so called football fans in Scotland who will be really
delighted if Celtic have a bad run in European games. I hope that the
board realise that we need to spend to reassure the fans that they have
serious ambitions for our team. As a fan who spends a lot of money I am
sure I am not alone in hoping that we put on a decent show. KL

Well in the light of Lawell's open letter today it's obvious that he doesn't think we have sold enough he wants more people to buy..I am season ticket holder as is my wife, My two sons have bought tickets online to games that they want to attend( meaning when mum and dad's are not available) and they have been bombarded with requests to renew season tickets even though they never had one. I'm not sure if this is a sign that the club is not getting the renewals they were hoping for or are the club trying to make up the shortfall of the zombies departure to the 3rd div??

That's just marketing Johnny, Lawwell would hard sell the seats in the dugout if he could get away with it.
They said they were up on the year previous a fortnight ago, so he's obviously not panicking but trying to sell max season books, no different to any other season. Things.are running considerably cheaper than they were even three months ago so no panic.
Let's all laugh at sevco Johnny, pretty long way down there pal, enjoy.

Can I just add that although Sammy is listed as a striker, he adds far more to us playing on the left and I wish the fans would give him a break. I know he took sometime to become more consistent but since he has been given the new role, he is one of the most influencial players we have a parkhead. I know it is only pre-season, but the other night he looked more energetic and more of a player than most of that team. We all know gary Hooper takes a bit of time to get up to speed, but big Sammy looks like he is going to be our best chance of creating something over the CL qualifiers.
I agree Murphy and Bangurra are deadwood and TBH I would drive Murphy down to Ipswich and carry Bangurra on my back, back to Sweden.

It was me who posted about the 'dead wood' strikers- Samaras just doesn't do enough for me weather he's up front out on the wing. He holds on to the ball to long, I've seen him so many times beat 1 player to many when he's got a pass on. I would play ledley, commons, forrest wide left before the big man. Just my opinion at the end of the day! I hope I'm back on here in 6 months time saying.....I was wrong. Ian L

Def agree about not keeping the ball too long when there's a clear pass on. Sammy's def a wide player and he and lenny know that. Not sure if I would get rid as you just never know if he's going to be brill 1 week and poor the next.

Cheers mate.I've read you talking about Clayton before but i had never heard of the rest but these are the boys we should be keeping an eye on at Celtic.I prefer the way we are just now with signing up and coming youngsters rather than over-rated hasbeens looking for a big payday.

(Forgot to say i was working late last night so couldn't make it.)

{Ed001's Note - 1. Redmond is quick and strong, doesn't get bullied despite his age, but he has a tendency to just run with the ball straight at the defence. There is little craft or guile about him, his movement is lacking too. He will need coaching, a lot of coaching, to be achieve his potential.
2. Clayton is a top, top talent, this lad can be an England regular. He does look a little on the fragile side, he is small, but he is not afraid to get stuck in and chase around closing down defenders. He has half the English Prem looking at him. Incidentally, Crewe also have Ben Garratt (gk), Ryan Colclough (forward) and Liam Wilson (striker) who could possibly break through soon. Oh and Matt Tootle, who is a right back but played left wing for them in the play offs, is also a quality youngster there.
3. Jason Lowe, to me, looks a better prospect than Phil Jones, who they sold for 24m to United. He is much better on the ball, comfortable moving forward and worked hard to get back when ever I have seen him.
4. I am not convinced by this lad, I know Arsenal have looked at him, but I personally do not rate him.
5. Freeman is ok, I don't think he is really outstanding though, not even in the lower leagues. Far too often allows himself to be shut out of games. I can see him moving up a couple of divisions, but I don't think he has the quality for international football.
6. This lad I really like the look of, he has something and he has been scouted a lot. I heard it was him that led to Watford's recent takeover by the owners of Udinese. Not sure if that story is true, but apparently it all stemmed from a scouting mission to check him out. But it shows how highly Watford rate him that anyone would believe that possible!
7. Dunk will be in the English Prem soon, if Brighton don't get up this season, I can see them losing him. He is being tracked by most of the lower half Prem sides. Promising defender, decent on the ball too.
8. Not seen this lad play yet, heard a lot about him though.
9. My friend is a Cardiff fan and won't shut up about this lad. Another I haven't seen play yet though.
10. I have only seen this lad play for England U19s, I wouldn't want to judge him when he is being managed by Noel Blake. He is about as useful a manager as Stuart Pearce!}
Agree0
Disagree0
Cheers 001,i thought a few of them sounded like quality but i prefer to hear from people who might have seen them play rather than an article.That's why i mentioned that Welling player,Pires a few months ago.I just thought the article sounded too good to be true because surely he would've been more known if he was scoring goals the way they made him out to be.Not heard about him since so i take it Blackpool never followed up their interest.
Jungle Bhoy. {Ed001's Note - youth football is my passion, I love looking for the next big thing and seeing if my judgement of them is right! I was very surprised Luke Shaw of Southampton wasn't in there to be honest. I was surprised Freeman was in there too, there are so many youngsters better than him around, Arsenal themselves have a whole bunch of them, hence why he was allowed to go. But Crewe's central midfield pairing of Murphy and Westwood are both better players than he is, both are more deserving of a spot. I was surprised Ajay Leitch-Smith never made it on there too. I guess they just didn't want to have more than one from each club and Clayton is definitely the top prospect there.}
Agree0
Disagree0
I would love to see the Crewe boys take on our Nextgen squad just to give us a tester to see how we are shaping up.I know they get a few quality games in the Nextgen series but against a team like Crewe who have a good rep for producing young talent might be a bit tasty.How do you think Powell will get on at Man Utd?Think he might get a fair amount of gametime?
