Believable3 Unbelievable1

Craig Whyte and Charles Green could discuss the last 2 years at the club they've run into the ground - that should be entertaining.

Billy C but he might forget to turn up. Or how to get there.

Seriously, very worrying thing. But he's made a fortune from cracking jokes himself.

Bit gutted big vic is staying, if him and Hooper left I feel we would have had a very exciting transfer wondow, with our European run we could have attracted a few decent names, it said in the sun that boy tonev would rather come to us than seire a sides, but having Vic for one more season could be good to, as long as he can keep up his champions league form

Believable5 Unbelievable21

How can ye be gutted darren lol why sell then go through the hassle of tryin 2 find a replacement he's stil got 2 years on his contract we r in no need 2 sell him plus his price wil jsut rise even higher with another good season al be over the moon if he stays tbh

How can you be gutted, be grateful for one of the best players we've had in recent years is willing to stay.

It's a boost to hold on to your best players and I also think it's easier to replace a striker like Hooper than a versatile power house like Wanyama so I'm glad he's staying.
No doubt there will be others leaving who will give us an opportunity to strengthen and there must be a wish-list already brought to the Board's attention for next season with that in mind.

Totally agree I think he should stay until Jan and then see how he feels about staying/leaving. this just shows how big a club we are if not even interest from the epl is turning his head so well done big man and I hope other players take note of this. wee darren

Agree2 Disagree1

The way I see it is if he helps us get another run in the champions league then that will get us more than any transfer offer we would get. Antony

Big Vic staying is fantastic news. he is going to be something else. make Flo transfer look average the way he is progressing. shows that our Euro run has changed the views of many. might get some more wee gems into the squad. I hope Hooper stays also. I know he has not produced for a while. but silverware is an addictive thing. KTF HH

I think what Darrenbhoy is trying to say is if we got 15million for him we could buy a few quality player that we are lacking in a few positions with that money! He has been one if not thee best player for us this season so I am happy if he stays but if he were to go and we got good money for him we could not just replace him but buy a good few player for that money! Teams like Porto do it all the time buy cheap young player and sell them on for a massive profit and rebuild the team with that money!

Agree0 Disagree0

Wanyama is saying the right thing's just now to please celtic fan's but if your telling me that if a big team in england germany or spain come in for him and offer him big wages that he is not going to go then you are off your rocker. these type of players have no interest in loyalty they look after number one and I dpn't blame them. 3 players will leave celtic in the summer at least wanyama ledley and hooper and possibly even forster. sorry but truth hurts.

Just because he has declared his wish to stay does not mean that he will be here at the start of next season, yes he is under contract for two years but if he does not sign an extension and the right offer is made he will be sold. The board will surely not allow the value our hottest property to be devalued by a simple desire to stay for another year

Agree0 Disagree0

Last 2 posters are correct. If he's so keen on staying and appreciates the platform Celtic have given him then sign a new contract on a better wage.
This, wanting to stay for another year reduces his value. Come Jan '15 he can sign a pre contract.
Look what happened to Gary this yr, head turned, couple of poor games against Juve, can we all say his stock is as high as in Jan? That said, love it of he stayed.
Vic's giving the right soundbites but actions speak louder than words as they say - sign a new contract, give us an insurance policy of big bucks transfer and stay for a season or 2. Stevo Dundee

Need to get your head out the clouds, when we have world class players at our club we should enjoy it while we have them rather than wishing them away. For every good player we pull in we could easily pull in a miku so enjoy the good ones while they are here. Tomev may be the next big thing, but he could also be another Erik huseklep who was getting chased by serie a clubs and now appears to be nothing more than a journeyman.

Agree0 Disagree0

There is an expression, 'strike while the iron is hot'. All sorts of teams were linked with big money moves for Emelio but he got a bad injury now no one would give more that £1.5m for him. I think Celtic can't afford not to sell Wanyama if they could get £10m+. We do not have EPL money from TV, sponsorship etc and, like it or not, we need to be realistic. Remember the majority of the current squad were brought in on the money generated from McGeady.

Interesting reading the paper this morning about Celtic once being interested in Lewandowski. I nearly replied to another post the other day going to mention this. Was going to highlight the Boards desire and Bravery when going for players. Lewandowski, Van Wolfswinkel, Rudnevs just a few of the players in one position who we have been reportedly linked with but never stumped up the cash for. Clearly, based on some of the young lads we've got in the team now as well as the calibre of these players we've missed out on, the scouting teams and coaches aren't half bad at what they do. However, if we want to take the squad to the next level its about time we started paying that extra one or two million when working our way through transfer shortlists. Who dares wins and all that.

Believable9 Unbelievable8

As much as I would love to see the likes of Lewandowski and others we have been interested in plying their trade at paradise, face facts, face reality, it's not going to happen, it is financially impossible to compete with the likes of EPL teams, etc, the actual transfer fee is not the stumbling block, the wages, we cannot compete with, under the current CFC wage structure, we could maybe offer the likes of Lewandowski 25K a week, he could get treble that with any team in the EPL, remember what happened to the last Scottish club that tried to compete with the likes of EPL transfer fees and wage structures, they got so desperate, they resorted to fraud, corruption, tax evasion and downright theft that ultimately brought about the demise and liquidation of that club, they died in disgrace.

Agree2 Disagree2

Martin O'Neill tried more than once for Berbatov the season before he left for spurs. The board wouldn't give him the 4 million fee and 30 a week wage he wanted. What a signing that would have been! Within a few years we would have been quoting clubs a fortune for him.

Agree0 Disagree2

In much the same way, we will be quoting a small fortune for the likes of Wanyama and Hooper, and that is the way Celtic FC as a Scottish team playing in a small time league has to conduct business, by picking up players who haven't yet established themselves and then selling them on at profit, Lewandowski has already established himself as a world class player and can now command the big money that, unfortunately Celtic just cannot afford or sustain.

I think you missed his point we scouted/identified these players before they could get 75k a week and pl did not follow it threw and sign them.

Agree0 Disagree1

Mowbray identified lewandowski and giroud but had to make do with rasmussan who was the cheapest option

Agree1 Disagree2

Giroud choose to stay in France 'he said Celtic offered more money but that staying in France was better for his career

Agree1 Disagree1

Personal money maybe, not money to the club he was playing at, if memory serves we stalled over an extra 500000

Agree0 Disagree0

I love the way our clubs run much the same as Porto or ajax we just don't have the same sort of money they do, but of we keep up our success it won't be long before we start to invest 5 or 10 mill into a player, as long as when we sell him he goes for 20 lol
