Ed, how long is wanyamas current contract? I have heard he has refused an extension, so if he were to be sold in January how much would he realistically go for? 'If' we progress in the champions league, do you think we would look for a replacement in January? All speculation of course, as ever.... {Ed007's Note - Wanyama's current contract expires in June 2015. I think it will be next summer before he leaves no matter what happens regarding Europe this season.}

regardless if wanyama has turned down an offer or if it is his agent stirring sh*t one thing is for sure and that is that agents are destroying the game! They couldnt give a toss about their clients! All they are worried about is lining their pockets! Its quite obvious there are some out there that are constantly in their players ears telling them they can get them this and that elsewhere but are only doing so because they will get their agents fee etc.
Do we really need these people in our sport, why can players not represent themselves like it was years ago.
Wanyama prob has turned down an offer from celtic and theres no doubt its because his agent is telling him you can get far more £££ in England and in doing so is making wanyama feel he is to good for us!
Agents are killing the sport we love and it is clubs like ours that are suffering the most

Footballers agents are no different to estate agents. Thyey are hired to get the best deal for their client who probably has little or no negotiating skills. Players do not really know all the ways they can generate income whereas agents have fine tuned this. The Football authorities realised these paeople would not go away so they introduced rules to at least try to regulate them. By the way, I do agree with your point about them ruining the game in many ways.

I've felt for a while that Wanyama is not comitted to Celtic. He walks about like he's the man and I honestly think he is not as good as he thinks he is! I would get rid and let him rot in a lower league epl team like Wigan etc. He would not and, I repeat, would not get into a top 4 epl team! Good player but still very raw... Not surprised at his lack of comitment!

Victor Wanyama is tied to Celtic till 2015. There is little significance at this stage of his agent pushing stories to the press of a contract rejection. Agents after all benefit from transfers and enjoy unsettling players. I'd imagine Wanyama will leave Celtic either at the end of this season if not the next, new contract or not. He'll do so with my best wishes and on a fat profit for CFC. I can't believe you are questioning the big mans commitment on the pitch. His performances for Celtic have been top drawer and his effort in performances such as Tuesday's is undeniable. As for letting him "rot", perhaps you should take a look at yourself and grow up. This "how dare you look elsewhere attitude" is childish and unrealistic. Do you seriously think he owes us his life? The man is Kenyan and has no connection or affiliation to Scotland or CFC. Wanting to play in a better league is both understandable and sensible. As hiuge as Celtic are, it's our misfortune that the league we play in (and its finances) will always dictae this. So long as Celtic benefit both on the park and the off it form the fee then its good business for all concerned and is part of our business model. And a final point, if he maintains his current progress he certainly won't rot. Personally I think career wise he would benefit from a another year with us but he's more than capable of playing at the very top and I'm sure in time he will. Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

I think your over reacting to him not accepting Celtic first offer on a new contract. Just because he doesn't accept the first contract put in front of him doesn't mean he isn't committed. The negotiations will be on going, thats the point of negotiations, to get the best deal for the player and the club.

I'm pretty sure he'll be happy to sign a new contract once he gets what he feels he deserves. And the boyo does deserve to be one of our highest payed players, since he is one of our best.

Quack

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally disagree with you. Wanyama is a young player who could go right to the top. He held his own against two of the best midfielders in the world on Tuesday night. I think he's the best midfielder we've had since Stilian Petrov. I do think ur right about one thing I think he'll be offski in January for 9-10m. He won't end up at Swansea. Like Ki as he is a far more complete midfielder than Ki. Feel we r up against it these days with foreign agents trying to make a quick buck. I think big Vic is a class act. Ian L

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul - Really good point. Couldn't have put it any better myself. Ian L

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Paul!

Agree0 Disagree0

He is only on £4k per wk and celtic being celtic have probably only offered him £10k p/w for the extension so he has every right to hold out for a bit more

Agree0 Disagree0

Time is on celtics side with wanyama. i think he is top drawer potentially and if he was at a top epl or euro club he would get an offer he couldn't refuse. we cant do that without breaking the wage cap and a new contract would probably include a release clause at a price a lot less than we may get if he keeps progressing as he is. we might just need to be thankful we have him for now and make the most of him and let him go when the auction begins !

Agree0 Disagree0

He's holding out for more dosh I reckon and probably some insertion of a minimum sell clause £10m or whatever and this lad could easily play at the very top level. I wouldn't be surprised if in the summer say a Man Utd / Chelsea bought him, maybe even lent him back to us for a year to continue his development, just to make sure they had him in the bag.

Agree0 Disagree0

Man utd, chelsea? really? 1 good season in spl does not merit a wage rise, hes contracted to celtic till 2015 so why should he be offered anything at all at this stage? look at izzy 1 good season albeit a bad injury but hes been lacklustre at best in his most recent games!

Has there been a public sale for the game at home against Barca? Im a season ticket holder & will be at the game however family members were asking about tickets but to my knowledge I dont recall seeing anything on the Celtic website. Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Believable0 Unbelievable5

No there hasn't, there isn't going to be one. Considering there was one for the other 2 game you are left to wonder where all these tickets went? I understand there will be a larger amount of UEFA delicates as they will want to see barca, but not to have any kind of sale says to me that the boys and girls at the ticket offices families will be ok.

According to CelticFCTickets twitter, there are no plans for a single ticket sale for the Barca game but they do tell you to keep checking the website.

Hey bhoys, just like to say and inform ppl that the game against barca was watched by over 7mill ppl on Tuesday which took 35.7% of the total viewers on that day. Those are some good numbers and we have no doubt made a lot more friends and possibly more hoops fans with the great display of hard work and taking the best team in the world to the last few seconds of the game.
After knowing this I think there just might be more to watch the rematch back at parkhead so let's show them just how good our atmosphere is and what the cl have been missing for a long time. Can't wait to see what the green brigade has in store and hope for the classic huddle, you'll never walk alone, come on you bhoys in green, and all of our great songs. Let's keep the party going and make sure we are heard around the world and make a lot more friends or fans tothe club. Also wonder if they have a nice banner in lined for us maybe about our history or relationship with barca. C-Bhoy

On tv that Wanyama has refused a new deal. If thats the case we should
sell him to his beloved EPL for a massive fee and bring someone in who
wants to be at Celtic. Mind you this report came from his agent who is
probably not interested in the players but more interested in his fee Julieghirl

Believable9 Unbelievable2

Not an issue, he's contracted until 2015, if he wants to stay on pi$$ poor wages until he gets sold next season, more fool him I say! Cheeky bhoy

Julighirl, big Vic's agent has been stirring it for a while now, he is sniffing big wages in EPL.
Vic is contracted until 2015 so Celtic hold all the aces.
If I was Lawwell I would give Wannyama a big pay rise, on understanding there is a big release clause of say minimum £10m, then Celtic are protected if offers come in and Vic gets decent money until moving on. Timalloy

Agree0 Disagree0

If the guy isnt commited then id offload him as soon as possible. Offers starting at 8million thats 16times his original value incase anyone moans about selling him on the cheap

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with timalloy, he deserves a pay rise but he doesnt strike me as someone who doesnt give 100% every game no matter what he always goes out and does his best

Agree0 Disagree0

He cost 900k so your maths are a bit rusty pal. I reckon it should be 12 million plus.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yas are over reacting. Its all part of contract negotiations. The boyo deserves to be one of the highest payed players in the team. He is one of our best players.

Still recovering from that sore one one Tuesday, but even though we got nothing from the game points wise, on reflection of other results over the 2 nights we can be so proud of the team and manager.
OK at times we were chasing shadows and ball retention was lacking, but we were very well organised for most of the game and had some outstanding performers in the toughest stadium in the tournament.
Obviously another encounter with Barca so soon will be just as tough, but I hope we go into it with confidence and with the fantastic support (and a few breaks), we might get a decent result?
Haven't heard how Sammy is and Broony is really playing through the pain barrier every game but these guys are so important in the big games and I wish them well.
We haven't achieved anything yet with 3 very hard games to play; but NL is gradually regaining our European reputation; and that counts for something.
