Blackburn have given up hope of signing Rhodes and turning attention to rickie Lambert - on his way to Celtic maybe.???

Believable8 Unbelievable6

Huddersfield say they will not sell Rhodes to another Championship club so Blackburn have given up. H'Field also saying he is worth 8 million, especially as he has made a great start in the Championship, scoring 2 in his last 2 games. No way Celtic will pay that kind of money. But would 5-6 million be out of the question?

Agree0 Disagree0

I hate to burst everyone's bubble but it's just not going to happen. He would be a dream signing but the numbers just don't add up folks. We will not pay anymore than 4 million for a player and apparently he's turned down an extention to his contract at Huddersfield for 27k a week. So if he's looking for wages like that aswell then it's a non starter. The only thing that's irritating me is I can't understand why Peter Lawell or Neil Lennon haven't come out and nip this in the bud instead of getting the fans hopes up. Never gonna happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Iike the look of rickie lambert how much do u think he's worth think he would score for fun think he's 3rd choice just now with them lookin to add another sticker

Agree0 Disagree0

Call me the eternal optimist but perhaps NL and PL haven't said anything is because they still feel they can sign him. I also reckon wages would be negotiable if Jordan was given the chance to play for the team he supported as a boy.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just thought I'd add, as a Hudds fan I personally think all this 'new contract/extension' talk is completely made up (by Blackburn fans) other than Rhodes maybe getting a raise after the promotion as we have him contracted until the summer of 2015

Agree0 Disagree0

Neil Lennon has said he will not be spending anywhere near that sort of money on 1 player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rickie Lambert would be a superb signing for us. HE IS big and powerful. Scores bagfulls of goals, some unbelievable strikes over the years. Southampton love him though and i cant see him being sold. Suprised we havent been linked with him before.

Joey Barton rumoured to be in Glasgow tonight.

MikeyBhoy

Believable10 Unbelievable29

Id rather sign nobody as this idiot . I really dont think PL would have him anywhere near CP .
CelticMatt

Agree0 Disagree0

Is he trying to pick a fight?

Agree0 Disagree0

Just never gonna happen. He wouldnt get within a mile of a Celtic shirt under this regime. Another example of how I know we're in good hands. They signed Diouf because they have no morals. We would never take Joey Barton.

Agree0 Disagree1

He might be seeing the rangers maybe, he is thier type of player and might be the only team willing to take him and maybe him wanting to play might take low wayges.... He is no where near Celtic class

Agree0 Disagree0

Only reason this came up was because what duffy said on clyde on friday and was repeated during show on sat

well done to young watt and twardzik today it looks like our youth policy is on the verge of starting to pay out as these two have shown they are now capable of playing spl level alongside forrest and mcgeoch and there are more to come like keatings , george , atajic irvine, mgregor , toshney , and by all accounts an even younger bunch pushing them,so the future is looking very good . which allows us to sell when we want and not for the need to sell ,. now all we need is to get the two players most of us think we need for europe ie a good quality cb and a targetman type like hartso or sutton ,, deep river bhoy

Ed, can you tell me whats going on with Ibrahim? Is he currently injured? Would like to see more of him in the first team, could be the creative number 10 we need in the champions league,
Kenny {Ed007's Note - Ibrahim is out with a slight groin injury Kenny. I'm not sure about throwing him in at CL level but I would like to see him getting a lot more game-time this season to prove himself.}

Believable10 Unbelievable1

Not having a dig at you kenny but people are getting a bit carried away with this boy , for whatever reason be it height his frame his attitude or his skill the boy has yet to do anything at any club he has been at, his signing for us was to see if he could fulfil some promise he showed at youth level(the same as blackman) so lets see if he can get a game and progress at spl level before we talk of him as a champions league level playmaker,,,deep river bhoy

I know that a lot of fans are saying give tony watt a chance and i agree with that but we still need to buy a striker whos big and can hold up the ball all the strikers we have and we dont have that many (Stokes, Hooper, Watt, Bangura etc) are all players that would definetly benifit from a big target man

I think one or two signings at most, we have to look at the reality the situation here, we will win the league with the squad we've got, we probes won't make too much of a dent in the champions league, just great to be there. The draw next year probs won't be as favourable in CL, so why go mad with the cash this year, c'mon lads, you have to think outside the box, that's why were the best run club in Britain, huge fan base, debt covered, loads of income. No need to spend. It's the buy, buy, buy attitude that's left so many out of work. And why generation of the future will pay the price, stop looking for a short term fix.bread and butter is the league, which we will win, CL is just a bonus for now. Get Real!
Jolly BHoy bhrydo BHoy......for real!!

Believable10 Unbelievable10

Yeh get real. I pay £500 for my season book like many others. Regardless of your thoughts we need a good centre half with experience.. And a decent striker if we spend even 6m we will have 10m in the bank.

So totally disagree with your post 100%

Jason

Agree1 Disagree0

Y save money for next year when it's to late for the cl . buy the 2 players we need so they are ready for next year and we wouldneed to buy next year unless we sell get them in the squad now so they no what it means to play for us no point buyin next year for the cl when they are not bedded into the team

Agree0 Disagree0

I also pay £500 for my st and although a new CH would be nice I don't think it's a necessity. As for a striker I would be quite happy to see Tony Watt given a good run of games this season, might just save us a few bob. We need to get away from this hysteria about the "need" for signings. Have faith in NL. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree1

I totally disagree with your post Jason. I pay 530 for my season ticket and nowhere in my season ticket renewal package is it written that we have to go out and spend millions on players as part of the deal. You like me wanted the shame dealt with fairly and squarely, in doing so our anual turnover will be down the next 3 ys. Making the Champions League is a bonus and i agree with the OP regarding us making it in future. Safeguarding the future of the club is the most important thing. Your being short sighted and mistaking Celtic being careful with the finances with having a lack of ambition. I get more satisfaction from watching that performance from Tony Watt and Filip Twardzik today. I can understand we dont all feel the same way. If its true the debt is over 7 million now then im more than happy to get that down with the KI money, it makes total sense. As for the Champions League money, you my friend have made the same mistake as every other supporter on here who thinks some guy in a suit will be rolling up at Celtic Park on thursday morning with one of those giant comedy cheques with 15 million pounds only written on the front. Get real. Our annual accounts are due anytime and rather than the F*NNIES in the press giving it the big one on the back pages and on the radio about "Concern as Celtic debt soars over 7 million", i would rather it was cleared and we can take it from there. Peter lawwell and Celtic are conducting there business the same way as we did during the downfall of Oldco, and the sanctioning of Newco...in an exemplary manner.

Be patient wee barra, the signings will come, take it from yer auld da.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the OP too.

Respect the fact that we all pay a lot of money but think that building a legacy like Ajax or Barca would be better and more satisfying in the long run.

Not having Sevco in the league means there is less pressure on the youngsters - by the time they get back to the SPL we could have almost a full team of players we produced ourselves.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jason I hear what your saying and agree we need a couple of signings to bolster our chances in the CL . But I do think we will get them before the window closes........DH

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic now need to have a three year strategy wrt CL. We will run away with SPL for next 3 years and need to count income at end of this season to decide how much to invest next summer for CL.

Agree0 Disagree0

All celtic fans are asking for lennon to be given about 6 million pounds to spend,if we get in the champions league, plus the ki money that is about 22 million pounds.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its the guys disagreeing that need a reality check. we're not short sighted, not by a million miles. Look at the following scenario and tell me how we'll be better off in yr 2, 3 & 4. This season - we spend £0 / buy no one. Fail to get out of CL (assuming we make it - biggest fail ever if we dont now). As other poster states, next year it'll be even more difficult to qualify - who are we then going to attract if we perform poorly this season and fail to make it next season? Year after that, co-efficient even worse off and harder qualifying rounds, same year after that. We need investment in an already decent squad to continue our evolvement, too many times we've sat back complacently and used various reasons for non investment of one player or another. Its too easy for the PL pacifiers to go on about debt, never heard this much from so many before about this issue and please stop comparing us with the liquidated team, we are in an entirely different situation and not looking for £100ms to be sepnt. Just 2 or 3 players to enhance our team. End of day, consider this - we spend a few million as many posters are stating, we'll recoup when one of our stars (Wanyama likely) goes next yr. Stevo Dundee

Agree0 Disagree0

Rangers fan here, doing my noesy as yous do to us, anyone watching the game on tuesday will know yous need defenders asap a decent team coulda been 3-5 up before half time, fair play yous got a result, but new players is a must, did yous sell izzy? not been seen in a while, were is the nigerian messi been hiding? banugra sub cameo against caley, now we know why yous kid on hes injured

john cass

Agree0 Disagree0

We have been looking for a centre half since before Glenn Loovens days . Wasn't meaning oh i pay £500 on my season book, so i have a say, i was speaking collectively.

We pay good money to watch Celtic, we are going to be in the Champions League and i don't want our balls felt ie like the shame have done in previous campaigns.

And an experienced centre half will help Mulgrew get even better, please don't put too much pressure on Watt let him blossom

Jason

Agree0 Disagree0

If you think because you pay £500 for your season ticket that means celtic must sign new players your crazy. You pay that money for the privilege to watch your team play and get first choice of away and cup games. I dont expect celtic to spend more than 5/6 million on 2or 3 players n a loan deal.

MurphyBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally disagree the recent players we have bought is what has put us in such a strong position. We may not spend big but buy wisely and as before make a good return when players move on. Hail hail

Agree0 Disagree0

Have a bit of ambition if your happy to just win the league for the next 3 years and thats all well thats a small club mentality!! we need signings and not all players cost an arm and a leg we havent spent any transfer fees in 4-5 years the team now was built on the transfers of boruc mcgeady and other players!! most players were brought in on free transfers or for 1 million pound!! its all great to say we have this system of buying young and selling at a profit but it works at clubs like barca everton and others because they reinvest the transfer money brought in for the sale of the player but as usual celtic want to keep the money rather than spend any of it there are plenty of cheap players out there no excuse for not buying anyone!!
Donegal Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi MurphyBhoy

Wasnt saying we need to spend crazy money. all i was saying was we spend good good money to watch Celtic we have let numerous players leave and have not replaced, all i want is two players
is that a crime

Jason

Agree0 Disagree0

I completely understand that some folk are suggesting we go with what we have got. However, I would like to see more quality supplemented with existing/youth. Bit of money spent on a well scouted/proven striker and a quality playmaker. My 2 choices would be bennyoun and Rhodes with maybe Richard dunne at the back - not completely required but would add that experience.

Agree0 Disagree0

We will never get a better chance to bleed the young players . Why have an academy and not use it .
CelticMatt

Agree0 Disagree0

To the rangers fan who posted, it wasn't just the back four who were rope in midweek, it was also the midfield. They didnt follow the runners and as a consequence, the defenders had to step out to put a challenge in, and left gaps for the runners to exploit. Tightened up in the second half.

NL (the real one)

Agree0 Disagree0

I would sell mccourt and the likes so the youth are getting their chance from the bench. still think we need to strengthen with a bit of quality though

Agree0 Disagree0

Pl made a statement in jan window ... theirs money available we couldnt conclude any deals so where is that money now ? people say save money as though its still gonna be their nl built his squad on 15 million none of the players earn half the amount than when larrson sutton or heartson was their when pl started the trimming ... we got rid of a few fringe players off the wage bill but why was their still a need to sell players the team today is a shadow of oneils squad the fans are still their the tv deal is bigger the sponsor deals is bigger yet we are still cutting cost how far is our club going to be reduced to and where is the money going

Agree0 Disagree0

Always want the lad to do well when he is given some time on the field. but the time has come to give him a free transfer and cut our losses. i have a feeling no one will take him of our hands. henrik larsson has a lot to answer for. lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Watching the game on TVtoday I was embarassed by him. Neil Lennon was constantly barking orders telling him to close down and he didn't look interested. Wee Tony Bhoy put him to shame today. Time to go Mo! Cheekybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Bangura Murphy and Thompson must go, and sooner rather than later. These three musketeers are masquerading as footballers and are taking how much a week collectively? 25-30K. When an honest pro like O'Dea is cut from the squad how can we persist with the likes of Bangura? I thought this lad may have had something but it was as I say a masquerade, I will chip in for his ticket back to Stockholm. Oh and PS you can include a 4th one KW as d'artagnon as he too is hopeless in a hooped shirt. Sopot Celt

Agree0 Disagree0

Did henrik not recommend him ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought he looked decent today. just needs a run of games and some goals to get his confidence back.

oh and lenny was barking orders at everyone no just bangura so you cant use that against him

Agree0 Disagree0

Apparently the guy is an absolute stick out at training and bounce games and the feeling with the coaching staff is he needs confidence.
They all think he can have a massive future and go on a big money move once he gets going and gets a few goals to his name.
In training he turns defenders for fun, strikes the ball well with both feet and almost always hits the target, they have not given up on him and are not going to any time soon.

Believable10 Unbelievable1

You going to say we dont need a need CB if kelvin wilson has a good game one of the days. We need 4 or 5 players in.

Agree0 Disagree1

Watt looks great and should be given plenty playing time in the league for sure. I very much doubt he is ready to do that against Europe's elite though.Nevertheless, it's so encouraging to see another youngster coming through. Celtic did very very well considering no Brown, Kayal, Commons, McGeough, Ledley or Samaras! Disappointed to lose goals though, indeed NL will have to have a quiet word.

Go on Big Vic...Great start Celts! 6 changes and taking the game to Butcher's Teuchters. Hooper taking heavy tackles while Column making plenty 'honest mistakes'. Tony Watt makes it 2-0 with a great solo effort;
Neil McCann - G.I.R.I.Y. By the way.
Andy - SLY Lackie - Walker says first good thing about The Celtic after 30 mins of play.
Controlled the rest of the half and could have had a couple more, but half the team missing, away at our Bogey Ground plus 'William of Column' not bad at all Celts That's first half report from yer man at DFS (Dear Feckin Setees).
No doubt the 'neutral' panel will be much more critical of Cally than praise under-strength Hoops!

Anyone know if its true that Ki wanted to stay and hopefully play some part
in the CL games?

Believable6 Unbelievable11

Celtic needed the money.
They planned 5 months ago to sell a major player in this window to service debt. All speculation was on who would go, and most commentators said Ki and voila he's the guy who wanted to leave? Ki wanted CL football.

Hi all ,

Is it just me or does Craig Levein have an agenda against the scottish lads at Celtic.

Likes of Berra & Webster in ahead of Mulgrew
Forrest never gets a start
Now there are 7 players ahead of Commons based on what ? Naismith has been out of months, Barry Robson is utter guff, Snodgrass has yet to play against a decent team in England ( however was part of a team that got gubbed 5 nil the other day ) Morrison - mmm maybe cos he is decent enough. Maloney - only given a change since he left Celtic ( both spells ) Matty Philips - same boat as Snodgrass and Jaime Mackie - christ he will be leaving QPR as soon as they sign another player.

Mark Wilson never got a change when he played at Celtic.

I have to say i find it heard to support Scotland with this fool in charge. Steven Fletcher scores goals in the EPL but wont be brought back so we have to settle for championship grade strikers to score us goals. We will never make a championship with this guy in charge.

On the plus side the less Celts in the Scotland line up the fresher they will be for us.

Based on all the posts lately about signings. Its a unanimous agreement amoungst us all that a Centre Half and a Target Man is what we need, I HOPE that the total amount of funds available are used for this purpose as no other positions need strengthend

Believable15 Unbelievable3

Great post couldn't agree more!!
ChrisBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed, Levein has to go. Not sure its an agenda or anything against Celtic, he's just useless.

Who wants to watch a 4-6-0 ? Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree2

After the Kennedy injury I no longer care if any Celtic players get picked for Scotland. It may be a great honour to be selected...but frankly its not the job they are paid to do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Craig Levein's pathetic effort at a beard and his constant wearing of shell suits says it all really, the man lacks class and has terrible selection issues.

If anybody can name 7 Scottish left wingers better than Kris Commons i'd be surprised......indeed if anyone does i'll happily grow a pathetic beard and wear a shell suit.

Agree1 Disagree0

Great points, well made. Levein is an idiot, end of. Shuld have gone after his 4-6-0 formation against a team we should have been easily competing with.

Agree1 Disagree0

Commons was a complete dud last season whereas mulgrews natural position in LB and berra and websters are CBs?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes your 100 percent correct about Scotland and levein! After playing no 1 up front against the Czechs he shoulda been sacked! but wee need a playmaker in cm we really lack creativity and against better teams in Europe that lack of creativity will show!

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't give a rats ass about scotland or ANY internationals for that matter!!

And as for Celtic players playing for scotland - hell feckin no!!

How many have been injured whilst on duty with that lot??

But I do agree with the OP, Commons looks back to his best, Mulgrew has been sensational for over a year, etc - but this fanny of a 'manager' blanks them!

Well I, for one, am glad as it save them for the important games!!

After all, do we go into work bragging about well an international team has performed??

Absolutely not!!
