Hoops offer faddy a deal. sly sports

Believable9 Unbelievable13

Hope not.He had his chance and knocked it back. We should be concentrating on keeping Victor and Gary instead of wasting money on a player who is past his best. JK

Agree0 Disagree0

Dear oh dear, this will go down like a ton of bricks.

I honestly stood at the desk in the ticket office a month ago and made a comment to the tidy wee slinky serving me while paying for my season ticket that I would be back for a refund if we sign that "Baldy we ugly ba*stard McFadden" to which she laughed and said you could try.

I won't of course but i've got a good mind to lol

Agree1 Disagree0

If he stays fit hell prove to be an inspired signing. I think people forget how good he once was

Agree0 Disagree0

If McFadden is a pay per play deal I'd say why not. Looked pretty handy for Motherwell. Good squad player to have Daviebhoy77

Agree0 Disagree0

Think someone has been on the sherry nothing on the sly sports web page

Agree0 Disagree0

These guys don't want to stay. Get good money in and re-invest wisely. John Park will already have players in mind. Faddy is not my preferred option but could do a job and is better than Paddy.

AldoBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

With Paddy going I don't see the problem he is not a automatic first choice player - he can come on and do a job.

Agree0 Disagree0

Right fine f@#*s sake go ahead & sign Faddy if you want just as long as there's still a proper quality attacking mid to come, dopeydavey

Agree0 Disagree0

There are some people on here saying how good McFadden was or is the guy has been over rated his full career because he scored a couple of flukes for Scotland rather give young players a chance this guy has found his level with Motherwell

Hoopybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

So you have something against bald people wee people and ugly people. Many guys pushing 30 start losing thier hair. Scots generally are not the tallest Nation on earth nor the most braw. I take it you have a thick mane of hair and a middle parting are 6 feet 4 and regularly are asked by adoring females if you are a male model. Really mate this type of childish personal remark is purile and unwarranted. So the guy knocked us back so he is past his best so he there is a question over his fitness. The guy hasn't signed yet and we get I am going to hand my season book in no well I am not really but I thought I would say it and insult the guy at the same time. Unless you are 15 years old and read the Sun there isney much hope for you. As I said at the start having a go and calling a guy out for being wee fat and ugly is not adviseable as those characteristics are pretty common within the Scottish population. The question of his parentage and your use of the B word is just disgraceful. You are not funny mate. I mean what did he do to deserve this vitriol? Is he a former prison camp guard? Has he been indicted for war crimes? No his crime is being a gifted footballer and actually achieving something in his life as a sportsman. A lot of CFC fans really have to get out of their own ar**s and slacken off regarding Mr McF. After all its our manager remember him. In Lennon we trust that you are indirectly slagging off. Time for a bit of faith and some decency and class from more posters. Sopotcelt.

Agree1 Disagree0

Decent squad player. Will score goals. Why not? I agree with above post, people forget how good he was before his injuries.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Sopot. I actually think he is a good signing as long as the figures are right. We had McCourt who did nothing at CP. So can he be any worse? He can also take a free kick which means Lenny might actually drop Mulgrew now and again and not run him into the ground.

Joeshmo1888

Agree0 Disagree0

How good he WAS.That was then this is now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mcfadden is a good player, he has expereince and played in the EPL and scored goals there, yes he has injury problems and it was more to do with a bad injury a few seasons ago and has since lost his way
he showed glimpses of his true form on his return to motherwell, no disrespect to motherwell but Mcfadden if he signs will have much better players around him, he will have more space and also the quality of our players compared to Motherwell is far superier, if he regains is true form and his confidence, this signing could be a steal, have no issues with Mcfadden and I think he will benefit with a move to club like Celtic who will get him back to his best form of several years ago before his bad injury

Does anyone know if the Cliftonville game will be televised? If I remember correctly one if not two of the qualifiers were not available in England last year. Cheers.

Hi Ed, someone posted earlier asking whether Bangura was being sold or not could you tell me if we have recouped most or any of the fee we paid for him thru loan fees.

Cheers.
FrannyBhoy. {Ed007's Note - Not sure of the exact figures but we must have at least broke even or be near enough to it.}

Believable6 Unbelievable9

Has bangura been sold?? {Ed007's Note - No, he is on a season long loan at Elfsborg.}

James mcfaddens agent meeting with Celtic today at 2 pm to discuss move to cp, posted the other day that we met his agent and fundraiser ant he was not lying this one should go threw.

Believable8 Unbelievable12

I really hope not! Can't see the logic in this one, never rated him in his prime and don't see him improving our team as we are. Thought we had seen the back of over the hill signing's picking up there last payday's.

Agree1 Disagree0

A think its terrible they are offering him chance after chance he is no better than we have a disgraceful signing

Agree1 Disagree0

With a career average of 1 goal every 4.5 games he doesn't cut the mustard in my opinion. We should be looking at players of a much higher standard than him, even if it is only for a bit-part/back up role. Like others here, I think he had his chance in the past and is only looking at our glorious club as a cash cow.
Shame on him, and shame on our board for thinking he is the player for us when just a few quid would actually buy someone much better.

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

Send this donkey packing - he had his chance over the past few seasons when we were interested. There are much better than him warming our bench. He is crawling back for a quick few ££'s before he is thrown on the scrapheap. This is a shocking signing if he comes. #nothappy!

ShottsBhoy

Agree0 Disagree1

Adds some maturity he's no worse than McCourt and at times we needed him. McFadden will be no more than a squad pay by play player I'm sure he knows that. If he says fit I say give him a chance. I don't think he is the mercenary people are making out.

I agree to a point that you shouldn't get too many chances to pull on the hoops and pass it up. We all know we would walk to Timbuktu for just one chance, but depending on the terms of the deal, I don't think its that bad an idea. The guy defo did a job against us last season and if they can get him back up to speed, then he is worth a punt. If he breaks down again, the terms of the deal should protect the club. I for one doubt PL is going to give him a high basic wage and if he is prepared to come on an appearance basis, then give him this one last chance. You don't know the background to the snubs, maybe his wife wasn't prepared for it, was his family too young to live in the fishbowl? We don't know the ins and outs, so I for one will leave it up to the guys in the know. Hail Hail COYBIG

Agree4 Disagree0

Guys this sounds a bit hysterical. Would not have him in his prime. what's that about. The guy cut the mustard as a footballer. Its his injuries that are the issue. The new Man U manager liked him and who am I to argue. Also what so we know about previous attempts to sign him. Who knows how realistic and serious they were. Only he and the club know. So why condemn the guy. Now don't get me wrong the deal has to be right and should take account of playtime and appearances given his past injuries. Other than that why the worry. Its not as if we expect a world beater. Smetimes players are brought in to develop the other players. He is an older heid which is sorely missing in the group. My only realmconcern is he may restrict a developing players chances but let's have some faith here. If he does sign it may just turn out rather well and if he is injured all season then as long as the club have included the correct clauses in the deal then all will be well. he's hardly an old man looking for a big pay day at 29. Sopotcelt.

Agree2 Disagree0

I seriously hope not! The guy has had more than enough chances to join the hoops and said no everytime when EPL teams were interested. now no1 wants him, he wants celtic fc. Keep him away from CP, don't want to ever see him in the hoops!

If we are looking for a player like McFadden who can play up top and in an attacking midfield position I'd rather bring back Niall McGinn who had a great season with Aberdeen last year, he is also younger and not as injury prone too.

McFadden is quality, just needed time to recover from a series of hellish injuries. Still what 29? Plenty still left in him!

Seriously, they way some of these people go on you'd think they have no faith in Lennon. He would not sign him if he didn't think it was worthwhile to the team.

At he same time I think a lot of these people expect the board to to destroy all the good work done with keeping the finances in check and live beyond their means, eventually leading to a Rangers scenario. Can't please anyone, never mind everyone!

Ultimately though, we ALL should be behind all players coming in.

Agree2 Disagree0

Last season our one failing was a lack of quality in depth. This guy has far more quality and has played and performed to a higher standard than Paddy McCourt who for me did very little in his time at our club. McFadden is the type of player than can add flair, make a defence splitting pass and would be a great weapon to have on the bench. If Neil Lennon wants him and the deal is right then so be it. I will back him to the hilt as I would any other Celtic player.

Agree1 Disagree0

I'd take McFadden over McCourt anyday. Paddy offered nothing to the team, he was with us way too long and became a cult figure for what? Unfit, hid in big games, when given the chance, only decent performances v lower league teams, mc fadden on a free will add to the team for spl games, I'm sure his contract will involve risk if he falls injured,
Ska Bhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

If its true its the worst move Celtic have made in years. He is only interested as no one south of the border will take him.

Agree0 Disagree1

I think if he signs he will make the doubters eat their words as he has that extra bit of quality in the last third to change games or win them on his own.

Agree1 Disagree0

Celtic have already denied this move back in april

Agree0 Disagree0

Happy for McFadden to come in as a squad player and then try to prove his worth.
More than good enough for SPL, if he stays injury free? I think celtic could be the team that fits him, playing in this league with decent players around him could bring out the best in him.
Not so sure about him knocking us back twice, nobody really knows what goes on behind the scenes, was there 2 offers on the table? And even if there was? If he comes in, puts a decent shift in, earns his wages unlike some, then I don't mind if the deals right?!

I'd be happy to see him in a Celtic shirt. Bar the bad injuries he'd had he's always played at a top level and when we last played Motherwell he was the best player on show.
I don't buy into the crap about him turning us down twice before. Most if not all was papertalk {Ed007's Note - I know it's a 100% fact that Glass-legs turned us down to go to Everton.}

Agree0 Disagree0

McFadden looked good in games for Motherwell last season. That aside even if he comes in for a season on a sensible deal it can only be good for the youngsters. They'd be inspired and they can learn from him technically. Our defenders would also improve cause I'd hate to be defending against Faddy every day in bounce games.

JammyMac

If Helder Barbosa is a free agent, why not just give the contract to him???

Well done Celtic again. What a way for Stan's foundation to start up a glamour charity match at Celtic Park.

Celtic are to host a charity match to raise money for a foundation set up by former player Stiliyan Petrov, who retired this year after a year-long battle with leukaemia.

The 33-year-old was diagnosed with the disease in March last year and has undergone intensive bouts of chemotherapy treatment.

He is now in remission but retired from playing in April and is establishing a foundation to support people going through the same experience.

The match on September 8 will feature some of Petrov's former Celtic team-mates along with other football legends and celebrity fans, the club said.

The Bulgarian, who played for Celtic between 1999 and 2006 before joining Aston Villa, said: "I'm absolutely delighted that this game is going to take place at Celtic Park. It will be a wonderful start for my foundation and I'm really happy to be coming back to a place where I spent seven brilliant years. It will be great to see everyone there."

He added: "I'm looking forward to being back at Celtic Park, meeting up with old friends and, of course, getting a chance to say thank-you to all the fans who've given me their support over the past year. It's the best possible start that my foundation can get and it will be a great occasion."

The match is being organised by the Celtic Charity Fund with the proceeds of the game being passed to support Petrov's nominated charities and a range of local community projects.

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said: "We are absolutely delighted to host this charity match which will provide our supporters with a collective opportunity to show their appreciation and love for one of our own."

Celtic Foundation chief executive Tony Hamilton said: "It's an honour for us to be involved in this match which celebrates a wonderful footballer but, more importantly, an incredible man - a man who knew what it meant to play for our football club."

Tickets, which cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, go on sale on Tuesday.

Stan is a true legend, 7 years at paradise.
Some are thought of as legends: Pierre, 2 seasons, cadette, one season, di Canio, 1 season, etc. true legends give five years+

Seems to be a general feeling that we need a left back, What about the boy Chalmers who played a couple of games last season? I havnt seen a lot of him but if he's getting games someone must rate him. Is he not good enough for cover for Izzy?mark

Believable6 Unbelievable8

We have phil' twardzik as a great stand in!

Agree0 Disagree1

Dont forget, Ledley and Adam Can play at left back

Agree0 Disagree1

With the arrival of Van Dijk I think Mulgrew may play at left back more.

Agree0 Disagree0

And mulgrew

Agree0 Disagree0

Why play players out of position to cover izzy weaknesses. Even managers in lower leagues identify izzy as weak link positionally for balls in to Chanel. So far one season wonder in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

As much as I like him, Mulgrew has to play CB or not at all. We have better players for the midfield and he's not a LB. He'd be my first choice centre half at the moment

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah mulgrew is much better at center half. Won player of the year in that position . 2 of Wilson, mulgrew and van dijk in center defence for me. Ambrose is a disaster, his performances in the confederations cup have proven so

Agree0 Disagree0

We need to go out and buy a left back, mulgrew is no good at left back same as the others go out and get 1

Agree0 Disagree0

Matti de Sciglio, 20yo Milan and Italy.
