Kevin Doyle will shortly become a Celtic player. Fact! The deal is as good as done.

Believable23 Unbelievable37

God help us if its true! he's past his best and his best wasn't good enough! Doesn't really fit our transfer strategy for the last few seasons not young and has no sell on value!

Agree0 Disagree1

Trust me, it is 100% true. Celtic tried to sign Doyle during January window but his club wouldn't let him go. Now he can go, Celtic have stepped back in. Probably use him as a Paddy McCourt type cover player.

Agree0 Disagree1

I imagine Doyle was approached for a loan during the Janaury window purely to act as cover. Now that we have time to think about things and clubs aren't asking crazy money for players anymore I think we'll be looking for someone younger.

If it's true? It doesn't fill me with confidence or faith in the managers ambition. The guy is average and has a poor scoring record. He is no better than we have at the club.
He may score in the poor SPL but surely we have higher ambitions for players of real European quality after the last campaign earned so much cash and respect.

Mccourt, murphy, o'dea, (and arguably when he was with us - Niall Mcginn). A long line of irish dross. Add kevin doyle to that line. why this obsession with mediocre, underperforming irish players?

Agree0 Disagree1

Lenny is a big fan of Doyle's and the player has made it quite clear to the Celtic manager that if he is ready and willing to join the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Disagree with a lot of this, Doyle will be a great foil for a pacy forward e, g Russell! We need a target man, he's plenty in prem league, euro championship and World Cup. He's affordable and add experience that we need.

Agree2 Disagree0

I think if he signs he will surprise quite a few people. Every manager he has played under raves about him. Absolutely works his socks off for the team, certainly not slow, he's great in the air and is brave and willing to rough up defenders which we are definitely lacking.

The main observation is for the last 2-3 seasons he hasn't scored enough goals. But he has scored 125 career goals. So the fact is he CAN score goals. Maybe if he gets off the mark early and with the confidence that brings could go on to be a big hit.

Free transfer. Give the lad no more than a 2 year deal and its no risk for Celtic. We are financially sound and to be fair this signing albeit about as exciting as a scottish 2nd division fixture list makes a lot of sense.

Agree1 Disagree0

His average is 11 a season, he has never broke 20 goal barrier in his carreer, he hasn't broke 10 goal barrier in last 4 seasons, he would be 30 when we get him, the fact that he runs about all day doesn't make him a good player, his average assists since 2005 is 5 a season , I for one hope we don't sign him as I think watt is better than him, what we need are players coming in who are better than we already have and not because they are free cheap or loans and will be "squad players",,, deep river bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the guy will be a decent enough addition to the squad, put it this way, if JP & NL back him, then I back them!! a lot of people made the same comments about Kris Commons, enough said!

put this rumour into perspective-if we are 1-0 down with ten minutes left or we are out whatever competition. i'd take Doyle anyday over a few who have wore the jersey, to come on and put a shift in. yes he's not in his prime but our league ain't la liga ffs he would do us a turn, he's been all over the place with the republic so Europe shouldn't faze him. if we get him and on a wage that suits us then I for one would be happy.

Agree1 Disagree0

Fao enough said, murphy, bangura, blackman, ibrahim etc ,, deep river bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

DRB. u name any manager that hasn't had signings that didn't work out? The main thing with jp & nl is over the piece they are far more successful than not. let's put it this way since selling mcgeady and working with the funds they had, I can't think of any other team that have made as much quality signings and still had change left. They couldn't have done much better shopping at tescos, morrisons or asda lol. In jp &nl I trust. Comon the hoops, hope all u bhoys & ghirls njoy tomorrow

Agree1 Disagree0

The difference this coming season there is money available whether the board sanction it or not is another story, why bring in doyle on a wage which will be substantial and be looked on as a squad player or someone to bring on for 10 minutes? as I said I think watt is better than him and I would like our next striker or strikers to be better than we have now or do we keep looking for free, cheap or loan mediocrity like lassad, miku, khedouri fedor kamenar etc who all take wages for no or very little return if you are happy with these types fair enough but I think we deserve better,,, deep river bhoy

Kevin Doyle is a fabulous player who would set the SPL on fire - he's just not been used right at Wolves. trust me. he'd be a magnificent signing. 20 goals a season minimum

Agree0 Disagree0

Red, he's never scored 20 goals a season in his career,, deep river bhoy

I have it on very good authority that Johnny Russell ( Dundee Utd ) WILL sign for Celtic following the Scottish Cup final. Leigh Griffiths is also on Neil Lennon's radar but Wolves are asking for too much money at this point. Victor Wanyama WILL leave as will Gary Hooper. Fraser Forster loves it at Celtic but wants to rturn to England to ensure is his place in the England squad.

Believable10 Unbelievable31

BillyBhoy where are you hearing all these rumours?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Gaz, can't reveal my sources - although the person who told me works within the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Combining both above posts we would lose Wanyama, Hooper and maybe Forster and sign Russell, Doyle and possibly Griffiths?
I would like to see a couple of left sided players LB and LM and a class centre back and of course a commanding keeper if and when needed.
If we release McCourt, Lassad, Rogne and don't follow up on loanee's Gershon and Miku we will have a fair bit of re-building to do before the CL qualifiers.
Plus, of course there may be others who leave if a silly bid comes in.
The bottom line for me is we must replace with at least similar and preferably better.

I have it on very good authority that this is complete nonsense and that Celtic have not been in contact with any clubs as of yet regarding deals for players. Neil Lennon recently confirmed that Celtic have had 'a few talks with agents' but the club are nowhere near completing any deals.

Agree0 Disagree0

Without celtic forster wouldn't have made it in the england squad. hooper should go as you can notice that he reall wants to and he's not improving anymore at celtic. wanyama should stay, he's to me the best player and said that he's happy here.

Agree2 Disagree0

Wanyama and Hooper are as good as gone. Celtic have been offered very good money for Wanyama and Hooper has his heart set on playing in the EPL. Hooper should have been sold in January. They certainly won't get £8m for him now. As for Johnny Russell; he'll be a Celt next season. Bank on it.

Agree1 Disagree0

Billyboy you are a s*** talker with a voice like andy walker,. ,. kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see big vic going just yet, I can see him staying on for another year before he goes, if he wants his BIG move the big teams will watch him for another season before making their move, yeah he's a class act, but still has some work to do, as for hooper I agree it was a mistake to keep him, I was one of the fans wanting him to be sold, hasn't really done much since january so would we have missed him, I don't think we would have. I hope he goes in summer and is replaced by russell, I was hoping that if hooper went, he would be his replacement its a no brainer to me, good young SCOTTISH talent that can only get better with the right coaching and team and we all know he is proven in SPL I also think he could prove himself at CL level.

Well Kevin Barry ( ho hum! ), unlike wee Andy, I have my finger on the pulse. If I'm proved right, I won't ask for praise - but if I'm proved wrong, don't shoot the messenger.

What about a punt on young winger Dale Jennings, just released by Bayern Munich wants to return to UK.

Was labelled next big thing when he left Tranmere two yrs ago but injury and failed to settle in Germany. He fits our signing policy perfectly.

Tricky winger, with pace who can play in behind striker for those who have no idea who he is.

What you think Ed?

CeltStu {Ed007's Note - That's a good shout Stu. It hasn't worked out for him in Germany but he could certainly do a job for us. I'm not sure of the finances it would take but I wouldn't mind him coming in.}

Believable19 Unbelievable7

There is suppose to be a lot of interest from EPL and Championship teams. If that's the case would be difficult to get him up here but exactly the type of young exciting winger we need.
