Ed, are there any developments on the Caulker rumours? Do you think we'll take a chance on the lad? HH.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - I heard there's further talks planned for this week.}

We are on to slim pickings for Wednesday defence we only have 4 fit defenders and no first team back ups if we did bring someone in they won't be fit enough to be on bench they 4 will need to tread carefully now.

{Ed007's Note - 4, Rich? Lustig, Sviatchenko, Simunovic, Tierney and Ajer on the bench, or play Ralston at RB and move Lustig in to the middle instead of Erik. I'd be surprised if Rodgers went with 3 at the back again as I think Rosenborg are a bigger threat than Linfield though I don't think they will cause us too many problems and we should comfortably get past them with a couple of goals to spare.}

Two young bhoys not tested at CL level I think he will go with 4 at the back but as u said the way sviatchenko is playing he mite go with Ralston that could be a shout I don't think we should underestimate Rosenberg BR won't but we definitely need a good first leg to give us a chance due to away form in CL games.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - But would you consider Rosenborg CL level? Just because it's a CL tie it's not really CL level imo. For me CL Level is playing against a team that regularly qualifies for it and that's been a while for the Norwegians, didn't they lose to St Johnstone a couple of years ago in the EL and APOEL knocked them out of the CL at this stage last season.
Ajer could have strolled the Linfield game and you wouldn't call them CL Level plus Ajer knows the Norwegian game and knows Rosenborg who I would say aren't any better than Aberdeen and that's me being kind. This Rosenborg team are nowhere near the teams they've had in the past and yes it'll be a tricky away leg but I expect us to win both legs quite comfortably.
If we lose you'll find me in a cave down the Fairhill burn with no wi-fi :)

We've got to try ajer at some point in a competitive game why not rosenberg.

Well let's hope it doesn't come to that ED haha so do u think this Caulker discussion may turn to a deal being done or not?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think it depends on how Caulker feels in himself and about moving up here. There's definitely a chance of a deal.}

23 Jul 2017 15:02:32
How do we find out a player is CL level without playing him?

Rosenborg may not be as good as they were but they are still the Norwegian champs. Molde beat us home and away less than 2 years ago so there are some decent teams/ players in that league. We should win but I don't think it will be easy especially with no GB and being at home first is always a dodgy. I'd be delighted with 2-0 on Wednesday night.

{Ed007's Note - I'd be happy with that.}

was it just my eyes or did broonie drop into left cb in the linfield game?

just went they pressed - which wasn't very often.

Maybe we will do that again - he's not a cb but he has a calm head and we have an abundance of midfielders.

I am a little nervous of Rosenberg - they were regular qualifiers a few years ago and they will know everyone of our players weaknesses.

Clean sheet at home is essential.

I thought Rosenberg was the last round, but no there is another and all difficult options.

Brown often drops back to cover positions across the back four either when we are forward or the opposition is stretching the play, but he is never a CB.

I'm a bit nervous about Rosenborg also especially this early in the qualifiers. I remember Brattbak haunting us a few years ago. they may not be the team they were but there won't be too much between them and the teams we could face in the next round, so if we come through this one we can be confident.

There are far better teams than Rosenborg that we could play next, namely Legia Warsaw!

Along with ourselves you have Olympiakos, Copenhagen, Salzburg and Ludogorets who would be seeded in the play off round, should we all win. We need 2 of those teams to lose in order to avoid a potential tie with Legia. Salzburg most likely to lose to Rijeka.

APOEL were 2-1 down and scored 3 goals in stoppage time at home to put them out. Wasn't a the walk in the park you suggest ED. I'm confident of going through but we need a good result to nothing on Weds.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I didn't say it was a walk in the park, I said APOEL put them out and we are a far better team than APOEL.}

I know brown drops back regularly when one of the cds go forward. and I know he isn't a cd but we weren't playing with 3 the other night and he dropped back whenever they pressed. on quite a few occasions in the second half I recall - more often than him thinking "ill cover that spot" more like a tactic from the outset from BR.

which shows either this is something they are working on to have brown in there in these games - or more worrying - we don't have the right person for that position so relying on brown for cover as we have cover in midfield.
