As most of us know, Hooper will be away in the summer and i'm predicting we, ll get 6m at the most.
What strikers do you think could do a job for us guys and would bring something extra to the team?
A few I have thought of are (realistic remember)
(Esmael Goncalves, young strong, 6ft 0 and an eye for goal, could be a bargain buy if we look closely and fits our signing policy down to a tee)-£500,000
(Kevin Doyle?, also 6ft 0 and brings experience but he's 30 this year and not really prolific as Hooper, personally wouldn't pay more than 2m. )
(Johnny russel, taken the spl by storm and brings pace and goals to the team but I think Tony will get the shout instead, probably in the £2m bracket)
(Baba diawara, not really excelled since moving to Sevilla and we were interested in him last year, 6ft 1, strong amd a good finisher, £2.5m)
(Arouna kone, if Wigan get relegated then he could be a shout, £2m)
The one striker I've been crying out for is marc janko, been interested in him multiple times but nothings happened, he, s moved around Europe a few times and currently plays for trabzonspor but the cl could tempt him, 30 this year, 6ft 5 very prolific, and has good experience behind him which he could bring to the team, £2-3m.

If any youse guys have any targets then feel free to send them in, thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

We should have had Janko years ago mate. Strachan apparently had a gentlemans agreement with Salzburg for first option but when he went it was for for 4 million raising to 7 if targets met at Twente. It was too rich a deal for Celtic at the time. He isn't happy at Trabzonspor, we should sound him out. I understand his age contradicts our signing policy but for a few million he could be a star for 4 maybe 5 seasons. Goal machine, big, strong and superb in the air. Lennon says we need men, Janko is experience and a nightmare for defenders are he roughs them up. This is who I would sign. Jordan Rhodes and Charlie Austin are 5, 6 maybe 7 million pound signings. Not going to happen. Its Doyle or Janko and it would be Janko for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Get rid of lassad and replace with russell, get charlie austin

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't go anywhere near Doyle or Janko! For one they are too old and past there best and two they would command a large salary I am sure both would be on over £25000 a week! I've said this so many times let's stay away from the English market over price for the quality you get!
for me I would go for a few up and coming stars people like!
Sloan Privat (22) from Sochaux in France tall good in the air!
Vincent Aboubakar (20) from Valenciennes in France again big lad
Artur Sobiech (22) from Hannover in Germany big polish lad
Victor Ibarbo (22) from Cagliari in Italy big Colombian lad
and Finally Facundo Ferreyra from Velez in Argentina this lad looks a player!
all these players would fit into out wage bill and have a large sell on value!

Agree0 Disagree0

We would never get Ibarbo in a million years

Agree0 Disagree0

In relation to (gazcfc21) post, I strongly disagree janko or Doyle are past it,
Look, jankos 30 this year and this is still a young age to put the ball awayand he's a top drawer finisher and something I think we should go for instead of spending 4m on a young guy, gained a lot a money from the cl and I think we should go for experience to balance the team out, an experienced CB is also needed.
Look at lubo moravcik, frank lampard or Ryan giggs, well into there 30s and still performed incredibly well so at 30, janko isn't past it, as long as you keep fit and train well then there's no problems. he's definetely someone we need if we want to bring goals and exp to the cl.

Victor ibarbo is rated at 10m mate haha so that's a no go, and quite frankly the other boys you mentioned from south America or whatever will be snapped up by bigger teams. Don't really fancy south Americans in the spl, just ask juninho, scheidt and even Miku, its a no go.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hoopers contract is up next year. We'll never get £6 million for him unless he signs an entension.
@jockdj83

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair mate Janko is only 29 and that is still young but he has never shown the form he showed at Salzburg or Twente he flopped at Porto and was Picked up by Trabzonspor my point is no one else wanted him! he's on at least £25000 a week that is the top end of our pay scale! We could get 2 good young players and split those wages in not saying the players I suggested Are the answer but we have to buy players with a sell on Value! And Janko my friend does not have that!

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't wait for Hooper to leave. he hasn't looked interested since Norwich came calling. he had Champions League against Juventus to look forward to, and done Nothing at all. I'd like to see some presence. Someone in the Sutton/Hartson mould that can bully defenders, and that are not afraid to get on the end of a cross (whenwas the last time, excluding Sammy and set-pieces aside, that one of our centre forwards scored with the head) somebody like Higdon or John Sutton. Obviously not either of them, but a player like them

Agree0 Disagree0

Quite agree samson, would like to see a player header the ball once in a while
@jockdj83

Agree0 Disagree0

I know our policy is to sign young players gaz and then sell them on for a profit but I really think we need a change up front.
Look what if we didn't rake in 20m plus from the cl? Then we would defo be looking at a young striker with massive sell on value, but the thing is were heavily financially stable, got roughly 25m from the cl, 5m for ki and we will likely get 4m for Hooper and if Vic goes then that's incredible sums we, re talking so we could afford janko no problem.
Yes mate he's 29 and isn't in our policy but look at jvoh? 3.8m albeit not the quickest but hit a ball up top or give him a yard in the box then he, ll bury it.
I just think we need a change up there to balance things out who brings that little bit Xtra to the team and the younger boys.
aye but he was great at Salzburg, not bad at twente and Porto only signed him kos they were desperate for a new striker after falcao left them. I couldn't see Porto signing janko if falcao stayed.
He would terrorise spl defences (similar to Austrian league) and would make a difference in Europe.
We, re very solid with our financial figures mate and I think a wee change would suit us even without a sell on value, 2-2.5m at the most won't hurt us.
And for the record, brown is on 28000 a week and super Joe is just over 25 so why not?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think phillip hosiner from austria wien very similiar player to hooper and wouldn't cost much

Agree0 Disagree0

Take it you only seen that the boy hosiner scored 2 tonite, It doesn't make him a great player mate, wee tip

Agree0 Disagree0

You don't have watch a player week in week out to see that his goal scoring record is prolific

lb - izzy, gershon, chalmers

cb - wilson, ambrose, mulgrew, fraser, rogne

dm - kayal, adoua

cm - brown, ledley, rogic, twardzik, irvine

wm - forrest, mcgeouch, commons, mackay -steven, herron

st - doyle, stokes, sami, watt, lassad, atajic

in's - gershon ( £800,000 )
adoua ( £1,000,000 )
mackay-steven ( 2,000,000 )
doyle ( £ 2,000,000 )

out's - wanyama ( 12,000,000 )
hooper ( 7,000,000)
mccourt ( out of contract )
murphy ( out of contract )

what do the bhoys think? obviously just speculating, but personally i'd be quite happy with this squad - solid, very adaptable and lots of very decent prospects. the days of spending big are long gone and now is the perfect time to blood some of the young boys. very nice profit in the coffers aswell with regards to transfer in-coming/outgoing's.

hail hail

Believable3 Unbelievable27

So we bring in 19m and spend 6m on pish. no thanks.

celticthomas

Agree3 Disagree0

We can do a lot better than that

Agree2 Disagree0

Have a word OP.

(1) team for 2012-2013. that's THIS season, think you mean 2013-2014 yeah?

(2) I would expect a completely different team to that. Think there will be a good few changes but don't be surprised if all the new signings are young and unheard of.

SB

Agree1 Disagree0

If anyone expects us to spend more than we receive this year then you're sadly mistaken. And not should we, we have to be sustainable and use the transfers market as a source of income

Junglebhoy33

Agree2 Disagree0

We'll get 5m tops for hooper, maybe 8-10m for wanyama. I also think ledley will be off, maybe 5-6m for him too. Stokes will go too.
2m for 29 year old doyle is an absolute non-starter, no sell on value whatsoever so no chance.
Based on that i'd say 2/3 new strikers, 1 defender and 1 new midfielder. Have it on good knowledge 2 belgians will be joining - corryn (defender) and de pauw (striker). both early 20's, corryn out of contract de puw 8-900k.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know we could do a lot better but the question is, do we have to? let's be honest, with the scummy bears out of the picture we'll walk the league for the foreseeable future and as far as the CL goes, qualifying is our main aim. of course I would love to see real quality signed but do you really think it will happen? this is the time to be blooding our youngsters. over the next few years we can afford to give them the experience they need to become better players without it being too much of a gamble. mcgeouch, twardzik, rogic, fraser, watt, irvine, atajic, chalmers, herron and toshney all have the potential ability to be first team players at celtic, all they need is some luck and some game time. personally, i'm always delighted when a youngster makes the breakthrough at parkhead and next season is undoubtedly the time to give the academy boys a chance.

Agree2 Disagree0

Where are the goals coming from with this new squad? JC

Agree0 Disagree0

JC

i would say the goals would come from stokes, doyle, watt, sami, forrest, ledley, mulgrew, commons and lassad.

souljacker

Agree0 Disagree0

Souljacker I agree with u we have some v promising lads right now it is time to giv them a chance. We r certain to win SPL 4 next few years so it is the perfect opportunity. I'd luv 2 c Fraser in at CB, Rogic in mid and Watt starting more often.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry but Ambrose needs to go. Can't face another season with him in our defence.

Agree1 Disagree0

Has Rogne not refused to sign a new contract?

MgC

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see going out:
Rogne
Wanyama
Hooper
Mc Court
Ambrose
Stokes
Ledley (hope not)

Coming in?:
Doyle - we need a target man
Russell
Mackey Steven
Turner
Barton

Agree0 Disagree1

I watched the boy adoua for 90 minutes against Benfica last weekend for Vitoria Guimares. He gave away a penalty for Benfica's first and should have had a straight red for stopping a goalscoring oppertunity as the Benfica striker Lima had rounded the Keeper'. Even apart from that I wasn't impressed. Looked laxidasical on the ball and didn't work hard enough. He's big and looks strong but hardly used those attributes.

We need a quality centre half and I would sign Mackay-Stevens and probably Russell aswell. But even with Russell I think we need to spend some money on a quality striker. Don't know if they are financially out of our reach but Austin or preferably Jordan Rhodes would be ideal.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am sorry mate that team is not good enough surely the idea is progression to replace the players that go and to add to the areas that we are weaker in! You can't take players like Hooper and Wanyama out of the team and replace them with reserve players and expect us to keep the same levels! Yes we have some great youngsters coming through but are they ready if they were do you not think Lennon would be playing them more! We need to invest whatever money we get for players leaving in quality i'm not talking spending millions but we need to bring in players that are as good or better than what we already have! I also don't think we have good enough players as back up players like lassad, Zaluska and Rogne are not good enough its time for a clear out! Try to keep the back bone of the team and add to it in the areas we need strengthen!

Agree0 Disagree0

Please god not the French spaniel joey Barton!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Canny see broony doing much, he is injury prone, Mackaqy-Steven, might do a job, but I feel we will suffer in defence, next season, the team lennie has won't do next year, he will have to buy, if he wants to do anything in Europe, and that is where he will be judged, not over one season,

Agree1 Disagree0

Souljacker, it's great that we've got so many who can contribute, but Stokes is the only player you've mentioned who could be classed as 'prolific' and he doesn't get a game in Europe for a good reason. I'm not saying the others are duff - far from it - but we'll need a goal scorer when Hooper leaves. JC

Agree0 Disagree0

I see your point JC, but I think doyle and watt would bang in plenty in the spl. as far as europe goes, play 4-5-1 with sami or doyle up front as the target man, forrest and commons down the sides, ledley and brown pushing forward when they can, and kayal protecting the back four. in my opinion hooper has lost his motivation for the game up here ( should have taken the final norwich bid ), and he won't be as much of a loss as people think he will be. wanyama will be harder to replace, but do you remember kayal's first season at paradise? if he can recapture that form next season i'd say he'd be an able replacement for big vic.

souljacker

Agree0 Disagree0

I have no confidence in Kayal being a replacement for Wanyama. Kayal is certainly not the answer to anchoring our midfield.

Ontario Bhoy
