Anyone else seen the pic that's been doing the rounds tonight of a guy in a Lyon jacket who was on a flight from Paris to Edinburgh and was apparently accompanied by a Celtic official? If so, who is it? Looks like Rachid Ghezzal but he is now a free agent. Maybe the best jacket he has for the Scottish weather? Right winger so plausible.

Haven't saw the pic but could be from last weekend and just put up now. Didn't ghezzal reject a contract at Lyon over wage demands.

He apparently wants 85k p/ w, not a chance he's up here to sign for us.

If he's a free agent why would he have a Lyon jacket on?

Was speaking to a mate and was told that the new contract offer to Stuart Armstrong is £15k per week. Now I know that's a lot of money to the working person but in terms of players wages I think that's a low offer . We all know he will get nearly £50k per week in England, but I think he's is worth keeping.
Thoughts?

Surely Celtic can offer more than 15k a week?, if that's true its pretty poor.

If the club are serious about their ambitions of being a team for CL last 16 and onwards then they need to start acting like it. If what you've heard is true then no wonder he's looking at his options. We can't realistically offer him what EPL clubs will but a technically excellent, intelligent 20 goal-a-season CM should be expecting much more than that. Like I said, that's IF your info is correct.

No way will anybody know how much he is offered unless he knows the boy himself or his agent.

Sure may be able to advise but I came across a red top which claims to show our wage structure for some players. Seemed a bit questionable at best.

problem is lawwell and br probably recon they CAN get a young technically excellent, intelligent 20 goal-a-season CM for £15k pw, in fact we probably have a few in the youth set up on far less than that and also recent signing look good,

not saying I want him to go but just imagining what's going on in lawwells head.

20 Jul 2017 20:45:53
20 players moved out with upwards of 60 grand a week removed from the wage bill, I would be seriously annoyed if we lost him for the sake of an extra 5 grand a week.

My mate tells me his mate told him his other mate, who hates the first mate, but, doesn't everybody? Anyway, he said that no way is Armstrong on £15k a week. And he should know because his mates, mates, best mate, who also hated that mate that everybody hates, told him it was gospel, from a mate, so it must be true.

Fact!

At any club, one of the top performers deserves to be one of the highest paid. It's as simple as that really. If there was somebody at work doing less than me, but coming out with more, I'd be pretty miffed and would probably look elsewhere. Ed007 said that he only wanted a two year deal, if that's the case just give him a two year deal and sell him next summer, should he wish to leave/ and extension can't be agreed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - A 2 year extension it was which would have meant he had a 3 year contract.}

If Armstrong went to Southampton and they paid £8mill for him he could expect £35k-£40k. Don't assume everyone is on £70k a week. Harry Kane at Spurs is on £80k, fact. He is one of Europe top strikers but Spurs don't pay big big wages. At Southampton, Bournemouth type club he won't get any more than £45k tops. If he goes as a free next season he will get more as no transfer fee. Best we will get would be £8mill. If he does not sign in next 2 weeks he has to go but not sure what interest there really is for him?

Correct Johnnymac. Yes there are some players in the EPL on huge amounts, but the avaerage salary is not as high as a lot of people think i reckon (ie paddy roberts supposedly on 70k a week! Lol) . The average is actually around 45k a week i believe. Higher than our average, but not astranomical.

I think that maybe BR had decided to let SA go last season in his mind and has recruited accordingly. The bonus of SA having a fantastic season has only increased his sell on value. If you really want a player you make sure you keep them and don't let things drag on. SA stated he wanted to stay and BR stated he wants to keep him. If this was the case deal would have been done by now imo. Maybe SA feels that he might not start as much this season down to new recruits as our midfield is our strongest area? I would like SA to stay as he is a terrific footballer and will only get better, if he goes I wish him well.

Jesus, I thought we were more advanced to believe and discuss any particular offer Celtic have made to a particular player . I thought we all knew that Celtic, player and agent treat these things completely confidentially.

UEFA fine you for leaving a skid mark on your toilet yet the SFA can let someone away with blantent cheating through financial doping for over a decade?

As the banner said a few years ago F. UEFA, just another corrupt organisation like their big brother FIFA.

All the best to Izzy looks like he is joining Al-Fayha for £1.25m. Been a good servant to the Club and never once complained with KT took his place instead he gave him advice. A guy who will always be welcome back at CP.

Absolute gentleman, great player for Celtic and someone I will be very sad to see leave. I would have kept him as back-up as I think replacing him with someone as good will be a tough ask without spending silly money.
I wish him all the best, and as you say Stan, always welcome back.

. and with that extra lolly, or net spend on transfers is about 50p bymy reckoning. I wish I was Peter Lawwell's, but then again if I was, like I do with my wages each month. I would spend like a mentalist and speculate to accumulate rather than just accumulate profits.
