Just a question. - Does anyone know if its possible to buy the tracksuit top that Neil Lennon wears (black with tricolour coller)? Celtic shop and website don't sell it. {Ed007's Note - It is called an N98 Jacket, they should be available mate, I have one of them. JB will be able to help you out when he sees this post.}

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Completely sold out and won't be coming back in.If anything there are only limited amount of tops left which i will check tomorrow.What size are you after?There is Celtic's own version available in adults and kids but with the Celtic Cross.These are cheaper than Nike's version and there is a green version coming out too.Hope that helps?

Jungle Bhoy. {Ed007's Note - Cheers mate.}

Well on the offchance JB reads this, or if anyone else knows - is the away top available without the sponsor? pea

Agree0 Disagree0

Green version available at the Nike online shop. If you are small or medium you will get the black. I am a tad too large for medium these days! I prefer the green but it will set you back 60 notes! SopotCelt

I see people are still saying we should sign Johnny Russell in januray for extra stenght in the Champions League, In my opinion you would be better of signing Johnny Vegas! As he would probs score as many goals as Russell at Champions League Level! If you were gonna sign anyone from Dundee United it would have to be
Gary Mackay-Steven as he would draw numerous fouls and would create excellent chances for set pieces to be fired into the box. Hail Hail!

Believable25 Unbelievable3

Why don't we go for both but with a clause in their contract that allows them to play in their next Scottish Cup tie.

Agree0 Disagree0

The fitba world is a big place,i believe we have outgrown the scottish market UNLESS the player is TOP CLASS,the arab duo are far from that,in John Park i trust...jim the tim.....

Agree1 Disagree0

I don't think Russell has enough quality to play for Celtic to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hes right you kno.neva undastood the desperation for us to sign russell

mk bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Only the boy makay-steven could do us a turn maybe not 4 CL this time but still would be a good signing b4 the English snap him up remember Fletcher and McCarthy?

Agree0 Disagree0

Russell not as good a stokes and mackay-steven already failed in england(well been there and had his chance),.,.kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think either would add anything to the cause, if we could get someone like the Emenike lad from Spartak then that would be different.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please don't sign anyone from Dundee.

Quack

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sorry but Russell is a good player, I heard many people say the EXACT same thing when McDonald signed from Motherwell. That he wouldn't score in the top games. He went on to score against Man Utd and AC Milan and numerous against The zombies.

the negativity surrounding scottish football is a joke, players are written off before they get the chance.

the exact same reason our board probably thought 2million was too much for Steven Fletcher... time to face the fact that we have some decent players floating about here.

Agree0 Disagree0

We need better than decent players, I trust Celtic to make the right moves in the market.

Quack

Agree0 Disagree0

If russell is such a " top " play then why dosent he score more goals in the spl? The guy scores once in a blue moon and thats not what Celtic need!

Agree0 Disagree0

Scott McDonald was hitting between 10-15 a season. Fact is when they come here they get more goalscoring opportunities and improve their record dramatically.

you say we need more than "decent" players, what makes a player more than that? the EPL?

most of our signings came from worse leagues than ours, any of you ever heard of Wanyama, Kayal, Izzy, Ambrose, etc before they came here? didn't think so

people should shut up and leave the real work to the scouts who obviously know what they are doing.

signing big names isn't always the way forward that's why we are in the champions league last 16 and Man City and Chelsea are not to be seen.

Billy Sharp should be the man to replace Hooper if he decides he wants to go, sharp is a goal machine and would tear up the spl, hes 26 and in the hooper mould, think hes on loan at the time being but 1.5/2M would get us a proven championship goalscorer exactly what hoops was,.,.kbarry

Believable11 Unbelievable7

We should go for the leeds utd striker bechio,, hes a handfull

Agree0 Disagree0

Would rather charlie austin than either of these. kevslug.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't see sharp wanting to move as he's just had a baby, would be great though as would Charlie Austin but can see him costing too much

Agree0 Disagree0

Sharp wouldn't have a problem moving, he left my home town club Doncaster for Southampton. Also think he is good but Hooper is better in my opinion

MikeyBhoy88

Agree0 Disagree0

If that good,whys he on loan?

Ska bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Ska bhoy... totally agree. Sharp can't get a game for Southampton, a team that Hooper is better than. Sharp is not good enough and we want a player we can sell on.

i Know we dont spend big on players anymore but with us in the last 16 i would love it if lawwell backed lenny for once and splashed out on charlie austin and jordan rhodes(i know rhodes has just signed for blackburn but with them struggling in the championship and rumors of off field issues there, he could be worth checking out again) Should have signed him in summer but lawwell prefered the cheap option of signing miku and look where that ended up. Anyways what a partnership that would be up front, both natural finishers and both good all round game. Checked both players stats and they have scored roughly 280 goals in roughly 400 games between them and they are both still only 23! Im not an expert like Ed on player values but i would imagine we could get both for between £8-£10m? if hooper goes in jan and possibly stokes, bangura and mccourt that could get us £12-£13m which would be enough for both strikers and a few million profit! Would certainly work for me...

Celticthomas

Believable8 Unbelievable14

Hooper must stay my man.

Agree0 Disagree1

Still can't cut Lawell any slack?

Celtic recorded a loss of 7 million before the sale of Ki and qualifying for the champions league.

Celtic only qualified for the group stages on the 29th of august and the window shut on the 1st of september by which time Rhodes to Blackburn was sewn up

Jordan Rhodes cost Blackburn £8 million. No way Celtic would have spent that on a 22 year old from league 1. Probably no way Celtic will spend that on any player ever again.

Austin and Rhodes would be a hopeless partnership because although they are both good strikers they are both as slow as a week in the jail. Teams would just play with a high defensive line and strangle our midfield out of the game.

Sorry CelticThomas but Celtic fans complaining about us not following the same path as the dead club really gets on my t!ts. Years of Jabba Traynor's biscuit tin propoganda is still embedded in the psyche.

Agree1 Disagree0

Would love him to stay mate but we must be realistic. if he doesnt sign a new contract would you rather he ran down his contract and we get nothing?

Celticthomas

Agree1 Disagree0

To the poster above who didnt leave a name... How is making a few million profit by selling hooper if he doesnt sign a new deal along with the other players mentioned going to send us down the same path as sevco, since when is making a profit going to make us bust...come on man use yer brain... Yip i see that thiere pace is holding them back as well..there never going to make it as footballers now.

Celticthomas

Agree0 Disagree0

So CelticThomas you would have had us spend 8 million on an untested 22 year old BEFORE we qualified for the Champion's league? After posting a loss? With no Rangers in the SPL?

I have no problem with selling Hooper if the price is right, that was not the part of your post I was adressing.

I said in my post that the two players you mention ARE good players but playing them together would be lunacy. Remember the 3-0 old firm game at CP where Rangers played Elbows up front on his own and they couldn't get out of their own half despite having an extra man in midfield? That is the same problem we would have with Rhodes and Austin up front, theres no danger of them getting in behind so teams dont get stretched having to defend deep, the midfield becomes congested, no chances are created, no goals scored, therefore a crap partnership.

Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

First off rhodes didnt cost 8m it was 4m plus add ons on things like blackburn getting promoted and where would the danger in spending less money than what we bring in, in jan? thats my point. Secondly would you say andy cole and dwight york was a bad partnership? neither of them had pace and many people regard them as the best strikeforce ever in the epl...not all good forwrd players need pace mate. Where was the pace when larsson/sutton/hartson was together. Plenty of pace from likes of sammy and forrest anyway.

Celticthomas

Agree0 Disagree0

Was it really 8million upfront for rhodes ed? Surely a portion was dependant on achievement?

Mk bhoy {Ed007's Note - Yes it was instalments and performance dependant, I explained it the other day MK, it will be about somewhere. Thomas is on the right track.}

Agree0 Disagree0

We couldn't pay the money for Rhodes without guaranteed CL football.I hated missing out on Fletcher and McCarthy (Who we could afford) I think? As for Hooper if he wants to go then sell him in the summer get as much cash for him as we can. I would like him to stay but it's looking unlikely

Agree0 Disagree0

8 million in instalments/add ons is still 8 million eventually.

I have no problem in spending less than we make but using that money on players not suited to our European system would be pointless. If we want a big striker with no pace who is guaranteed to score in the SPL then we might as well sign John Daly.

Andy Cole was quick enough and Larsson was no slouch either. Yorke and Cole also had the benifit of Yorke being able to beat his man to get in behind not to mention a midfield which were generally dominating the play retaining posession in or close to the final third.

When Hartson and Sutton played together they had petrov to get beyond them. Thats all well and good in the SPL but in Europe it means using three players to do the job of one quick striker.

Again, I didn't say they were bad players-in fact I said they were good players-but to spend money brought in for hooper on two players who wont play together would be daft.

Plenty of pace from Sammy and Forrest but if they are pegged back in midfield they cant be challenging the last defender and making the opposition defend deeper or cause problems from long balls in behind.

Also your original point was about not spending in the summer when no one knew what our European revenue was going to be like. Lawell didn't splash much cash because if we bombed out of the CL the best we could hope for would be EL group stages and despite playing in them last season we still made a loss.

I would be delighted with a couple of new signings in January. A quality playmaker and a left back to rival Izzy.

Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

Mac..you should have been a football manager because you obviously know all the ins and outs of formations, tactics and philosophies abd what works with what and what type of player works with another type of player. Rhodes and austin arent any slower than cole or larsson.. Also i could keep arguing all night-petrov running in behind-does joe ledley not try and run in behind?

Celticthomas

Agree0 Disagree0

Rhodes and Austin are definitely slower than either Cole or Larsson were.

Ledley does try to get in behind but nowhere near to the same extent as Petrov did because he doesn't play as high up the pitch.

I'm not claiming to know everything about tactics and philosophies but Celtic's tactics in Europe are well known. 442 or 4411 with Sammy in attack to provide a threat on the break and hold the ball up. Tony Watt is better suited to our game in Europe than either Rhodes or Austin would be.

One or the other would be a reasonable replacement for Hooper but there is far better value for money to be found in less overhyped markets.

Just seen quaresma is leaving besiktas and is available on a free transfer......this could be the quality and guile we need in midfield to topple the old lady. Thoughts?

Logan33 {Ed007's Note - Quaresma and his agent Ahmet Bulut had a meeting with the Besiktas' executive board members on Sept. 28. After which, Bulut acknowledged that there would be a second meeting the following week, but said a salary cut had been agreed.

Quaresma agreed to a cut of 750,000 Euros from his salary of 3.75 million p.a. (approx 70,000 Euros p.w.), which was proving to be a heavy burden on the club's struggling finances. Beşiktaş had been asking Quaresma to either accept a pay cut or find another club.

However, Beşiktaş failed to find an interested club for the Portuguese star, and Coach Samet Aybaba refused to use him until the issue was resolved.

I expect Atletico Madrid will be very interested in signing him.}

Believable5 Unbelievable1

It would be crazy to pay that kind of cash for anyone!

Agree0 Disagree0

Quaresma was the guy that was told by his coach to lose his jewelry as it was weighing him down, that player cares to much what he looks like to be a decent player(vain)id also be very surprised if that mob a.madrid went for him,.,.kbarry

Celtic have not offered Hooper 25k a week . he has been offered a wage below that of Samaras , Ledley and Brown ...Do you think that's fair ....? .... I dont . Match the top earners contracts and I'll assure you Gary will stay.
Fans should know facts before mouthing off. Think of the important goals hes scored for you.

Believable1 Unbelievable17

They may have offered less basic but better goal bonus money though and with agent's and red tops agenda's someone could just be stirring the pot. bigD

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't want to question your integrity but how do you know how much Hooper has been offered? Ian L

Agree0 Disagree0

He deserves the same basic wage as the top players in the team. He also deserves a good goal scoring bonus to stop him getting complacent. love to keep him for as long as possible.

Celtic have offered £20k and an £8m fee clause hooper's agent want's £25k and no transfer fee clause

Besiktas have just released Ricarrdo Quaresma - free transfer - surely worth a punt - very creative player - wages would be high, but no fee and sell on value should he produce the goods would be high

When it comes to the Juve game i hope we don't go all out for a lead to take to Italy as i feel a clean sheet is more important. Any kind of lead would obviously be fantastic but i would still fancy our chances going their with a nil nil draw. Tight in the first half. Charlie free kick. Big sammy header 78th minute. Leaves them 12 mins for 2 goals......i can dream can i no.

Think its gonna be a brilliant occasion!
Does anyone know that if we sign anyone in January, can they play in the last 16?
For example, Jonny Russell as he's not a registered player obv or was the cl deadline in august?

Believable4 Unbelievable2

I think as long as they havent played in europe we can play them

anyone interested heres a site you can get tickets l Buy Serie A tickets on Viagogo, the secure ticket marketplace, for games featuring Juventus, Milan, Inter, Roma and more also european competions.
probably end up in the away end though thats the only problem
davy {Ed007's Note - From experience I would strongly advise against any CFC fans buying tickets for the away end. Italy is not the most friendly country to visit for football. Google "Juventus Droogs" and you will see what I mean.}

Believable4 Unbelievable4

Wouldn't recommended it either ed, was there last time we played them in champions league we got pelted with fruit, bottles, plastic seats tossed over fence at us while the local turin peelers stood with there riot shields above there heads batons drawn and facing us as though we were the ones to blame.

Not a good idea to buy tickets for the away end in Turin! Only a good idea if you want your head kicked in!

I am seriously concerned about this draw. Of course we have a great chance of getting through but given the importance of the fixture and some of the negative some would say deserved poor reputation of Italian fans and law enforcers I pray the Bhoys that make the trip keep themselves safe and away from trouble. Maybe the Club will assess this situation and take the necessary steps without causing any offense. SopotCelt

Agree1 Disagree0

It wont stop me going our end or theirs. I understand we need to look after our own but iam not gonna miss this for the world,.,.kbarry

Agree1 Disagree0

Alright everyone, Ed007 is spot on here. I've been to Italy twice following Liverpool and whilst at Inter Milan I had a great time and their fans were a good laugh and there was a nice party like atmosphere outside the ground, the second time I went was the opposite. I went to Naples a few years back and it was the worst experience I've had at and around a football ground by far. Two our are normal fans were stabbed from behind by a big group of Ultras the day before. Then inside the ground we were spat at, had missiles, chairs, coins and anything you can think of chucked at us whilst the local bizzies did nothing. To be perfectly honest you would have to be thick as **** to go in their end, especially at your ground.
Having said that I think it's a great draw for you Ed lad, Juve are the most underrated side in Europe in my opinion.
JFT96
Smithy {Ed007's Note - I really wasn't bothered who we got in the draw Smithy and it could have been worse. We should be able to give Juventus a couple of tough matches and if we go through then brilliant, if we don't we have nothing at all to be embarrassed about, there is no shame in being put out of Europe by Juventus.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair enough Ed, there aren't too many better midfield 3's in the world than Marchisio, Pirlo and Vidal though and Isla at right wing back is class. Did you see the press link us with Samaras? Haha. You were right when you told me about Wanyama last season mate, surely you will get 10 million plus?
JFT96
Smithy {Ed007's Note - I'm a big fan of Vidal, he was a bargain at 10.5 million Euros, just a pity he chose Italy, I can't stand watching Italian football, it is just boring to watch and still corrupt and rotten to the core. I am hoping Wanyama has attracted enough attention from the right clubs to start a wee auction over him.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree with you about Vidal and Italian football Ed, you just have to look at Conté, Juve's manager to see that problems in Italy are still constant. Vidal left the best league in the world to go their as well which is madness in my mind, he should have joined Dortmund. The lad has got everything and is wasted in Italy. Have you seen how cheap it is for a Dortmund season ticket Ed? I pay like 4 times as much for mine, which is ridiculous. The atmosphere at German games is the best in Europe too, it really is a fantastic league, I love it me.
JFT96
Smithy {Ed007's Note - I've been a fan of German football for years Smithy, it is by far the best league in the world. A CM pairing of Vidal and Gotze would be more than a match for any team, I do fancy Dortmund to win the CL this year.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I've been tipping them all tournament as well mate, I'm convinced a German side will win it this year. Gotze is well on his way to becoming the best midfielder in the world once Xavi and Iniesta retire or are out of their prime. But Reus is the one I like most, such a good player, he is one of the worlds best I think and will only get better. Him and Viktor Fischer at Ajax will be the two best wing forwards for a decade. If you haven't seen much of Fischer check him out, he is unbelievable. Nice talking to you again Ed, hope you and your family have a nice Christmas.
JFT96
Smithy {Ed007's Note - Always a pleasure talking to you Smithy, I hope you have a great time over the holidays, take care.}
