Just a thought. Would Matthew Upson be an option for us for even a year, has plenty of experience and is a free agent. IanL

Believable5 Unbelievable8

Always injured not for me

Agree0 Disagree0

Can be good, can be p!sh. Bit of an enigma really. In fact, has his Upson Downs LOL. SB

Does anyone actually think Wanyama will go? All speculation aside.

Believable12 Unbelievable3

Yes. 10m. Ian L

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep 12 mill arsenal with sell on clause

Ska Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Think so. He's a great player and everyone can see it. Too much smoke without there being fire!

Agree0 Disagree0

Tom Boyd is flogging him in the paper today for 25M. His glue pot must be almost empty

Agree1 Disagree0

Apparently there was a bit on Sevco T V sport news about Celtic being willing to sell at the right price? I don't watch the very slanted show so I can't confirm.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree1

Personally I think he's for the off and to be honest if we can get 9 million plus for him then we would be mad not to capitalise on it given the economic times we are in. Think Hooper will follow him or vice versa. My only worry is that Joe may head as well given that he is enetering his final year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye big vic is gone, and big dick has arrived.
Replacements for vic, hooper are a must. Also for Rogne, Paddy, and who ever else has gone. Not just bit part players but players who will make the rest of the team fight for their place.
John88

Agree0 Disagree0

The Big Mans off class act good luck to him and Hooper aswell need to straight replacements hail hail joe bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

He owes us one more season.

No insult intended just my opinion, but you have to laugh.

Pavel Pogrebnyak to sign for Celtic £3 million to replace Hooper, deal nearly completed.

Believable6 Unbelievable19

Flopped at Reading did he no?

Agree1 Disagree0

Ive heard that also, can't see it, wages to high, would be a good addition though . bhoywonder

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye ok buddy he will be on big wages so dream on

Agree1 Disagree1

Doubtful, heard he was part of the deal to get Hooper to Reading, good striker but maybe couldn't play with Balde? Not against the idea.

Bigbadjohn

Agree0 Disagree0

When did Hooper leave?

MikeyBhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

Heard it was him plus 3m with hooper going the other way, think its bullsh** myself and his wages are way ott for an average striker at best
dhman

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know if that's good news or terrible news. In fact I do know, it's AWFUL news. He's a "has been" and I don't think he'll be coming to Paradise. We have more sense than that!

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be a great deal but also think he would demand big big wages.
Only one replacement for hopper in my mind and that's adam le fondre
Hew1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a chance. He will be on around £60,000; although, he will have been forced into a pay cut due to relegation I am certain it will still be more than we can afford. Also, he would not be a replacement for Hooper. He is a target man, not mobile and only had a good goal scoring rate a Fulham.

Anyone think Billy Sharp would fit the bill if Hooper leaves? I think Southampton would be keen to offload him and if they're after Hooper could be up for a player + cash deal? Personally always been a fan of the guy

Believable8 Unbelievable17

Decentish shout, but I don't think he would do half the job hoops does for us.a better shout would be adam le fondre of reading, I said in jan if hooper went to norwich we should go for this guy, I've watched him the past few seasons with reading and what a goalscorer he is, I think he would score for fun in SPL. not sure about europe though, but I suppose the goal posts are always going to be in the same place so who knows.

S

Agree1 Disagree0

I think he would be a outstanding signing. He's a first class finisher and would score a barrowload with the chances we create.

I actually wanted Celtic to sign him before Gary Hooper and although Hooper has been amazing, Sharp would be just as good if not better.

Agree0 Disagree0

No thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

He failed a medical at reading or some other championship mob last week.
dhman

Agree0 Disagree0

Sharp is going to Nottingham Forest, our friend Billy Davies has already spoken to him, and he had him last year on loan.

Agree0 Disagree0

I doubt he would be better than hooper but a decent goal scorer will/should! Score goals in paradise, he failed a medical last week at reading and depending what the problem is I doubt hell be going anywhere soon!

Bigbadjohn

Agree0 Disagree0

As a Celtic fan born and bred in Doncaster I can honestly say I think Billy Sharp would have the same if not more of an impact than Gary Hooper.

He is such a strong player who knows exactly where the goal is and he is faster than Hooper. Not very tall but can get up for headers.

He didn't fail a medical last week at a Championship club, nobody has yet mad a move for him which I find surprising.

Would be quality for Celtic

MikeyBhoy88

Agree0 Disagree0

Think there is better out there than Sharp. Would prefer Austin or Le Fondre to replace Hooper, if we could sign either of them. Sharp is also 27, I'd expect us to go for someone younger.

Agree0 Disagree0

Will people not realise Austin won't be coming anywhere near Celtic! He doesn't wanna play in Scotland and we don't have the spare 5, 6 or 7. Million that Burnley want. Le Fondre maybe decent but is say Sharp would be be a better buy for us.

If we sign either mongongu or van dijk, as we won't sign both, I think a feasible, skilled and reletavely cheap player to sign would be ex rangers and Liverpool youth, Danny Wilson. Has signed for hearts yet because a transfer embargo will be placed on then after administration, cancelling his contract. Is a good young player, will have learned a lot at Liverpool, and would be good cover for the first choice cbs.
Bartenderben

Believable12 Unbelievable18

Mate, he's simply not good enough for Celtic. that's the top and bottom of it.

It would be so convenient if he did have the ability as he is free and it would wind up the imbeciles over the water but the fact is he hasn't got what it takes.Thats why he didn't even get a handful of games at Liverpool, didn't do it at Blackpool on loan and hardly even stood out at Hearts last season.

Agree2 Disagree0

Yeah and labelled 'the defender who can't defend' no thanks we already have ambrose for that job.

Agree2 Disagree0

Wilson is known as the defender who can't defend, he's pi** anyway
dhman

Agree2 Disagree0

The problem appears to be that a lot of people just don't rate the guy. He played a dozen or so games for Rangers and did absolutely nothing at Liverpool. He was a total flop there and only played 2 or 3 games for them. He was bombed out on loan to a few clubs in England too and none of them fancied him either.
He appears to be a classic example of a young lad who showed a bit of promise early on, then tried to step up too many rungs of the ladder and has fallen flat on his face. He is otherwise known as "the defender who can't defend" and his confidence appears to be completely shot. Either that or he was never any good to begin with.
Or maybe it was a bit of both.

Hail Hail
ChrisBhoy

Agree2 Disagree0

Why won't we sign both Mongongu and Van Dijk? We could probably do with them. More so than Wilson anyhow.

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^^ liam miller comes to mind

Agree0 Disagree1

St ledger is av free,

Ska Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a non starter regarding Wilson. He would jump at the chance to come but he's just not developed into the player everyone thought. Plus heard from an agent based in West Lothian that former zombie defender Allan Mclaren and said agent are trying to sort a deal for him to the dark side. Broxtim

hearing that newcastle about to put a bid of £20,000,000 for wanyama and hooper. they're just waiting for sunderland to make a move for hooper then they are going to make the bid. good bit of p.r. apparently. not sure about this, though newcastle certainly need a striker and big vic would be an asset to any epl side. would be happy with £20,000,000 aswell - as much as we could expect in the current market.

Believable4 Unbelievable21

A round number like that seems a wee bit unlikely. Also would probably expect some up front money, with some payment plan linked to number of performances. Doesn't feel too attractive even if legit.

Agree1 Disagree0

Why would they wait for sunderland?if they want both they will bid for them i'm sure

Agree1 Disagree0

20 million for these two, never going to happen as much as big vic is a great player, hooper is not worth over 6million. gazdcelt

Agree0 Disagree2

They are apparently waiting for sunderland to make a bid so that they can come in with a better one. makes it look good for the fans - getting one over their tyneside rivals, and making it look like he chose newcastle over them. also prevents sunderland from landing one of their main targets.

Agree0 Disagree1

Come on this is BS there is no way Wanyama and Hooper will go for anything near 20 million I think 12 million if we are lucky and I would bite anybody's hand off for it remember Hooper has only 1 year left on his contract and Wanyama 2 and they play in the Spl which no one rates at all.

FranyyBhoy.

Agree1 Disagree2

So if we rejected a 5M bid for Hooper last week, your saying Wanyama is only worth 7M Frannybhoy? Be serious mate. Celtic need to start doing what clubs in Portugal and Holland have been doing for years. Name a price and stick to it. 20M is the minimum we should expect for these 2.

Yesterday, someone said a large bid for wanyama was outrageous and a joke. Today a fee of ten mill talked about. I think that's the minimum we should accept for vic.

Today, someone suggests both could be off, for a hefty good fee, and now this is also dismissed as impossible.

What's wrong with people that they have to come out and claim BS every time someone posts anything.

My opinion is vic is easily on the 12mil bracket, hooper 6mil (on account of having only one year left)

In an ideal world they'd both sign new deals with a buyout of 10mil each. That means these boys get paid what they deserve and celtic get a guaranteed price.

King Erse

Agree1 Disagree0

Franny they play in the champions league which everyone rates I think somewhere in the region of 14-15 mil would be a fair and realistic price for both players which I would bite the hand off for regardless of the lenth of contract these guys may start a bidding war between epl clubs and as we all know most have money to burn big vic could very well be worth double in two to three years alone if he opts for the right club with champions league exsposure and playing at the right end of the table celtic should be looking to sell (if they sell) to one of theese clubs with hefty add ons and sell on percentages
thommyj HH

Agree1 Disagree0

I think this post is bullsh*t like any other post that starts with something like "waiting for Sunderland to bid" sounds like a primary 2 transfer market lol and lucky if we get 12m for wanyama and hooper lmao if big vic leaves us for under 15m il be fuming! The bhoys a star and is only going to get better

SOS BHOY

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think anyone is saying they are not good players. Anyone can see they are. I still maintain they will not be sold for a figure anywhere near £20m.
If I were a betting man, which I'm not, I'd say the joint price will be no more than £10m or something in that region. I'm not talking about possible sell on clauses or performance bonuses because they are not guaranteed and can sometimes be totally unrealistic, I'm talking actual selling prices. Remember, Hooper has just 1 year to go on his contract and Vic has 2 years and some people are talking silly figures here. But as always, reality will strike and if they go then a lot of you are going to be very disappointed as a result of your disillusionment.
The ideal scenario would be that we tie them both to long term deals, they stay for the foreseeable future and this discussion become irrelevant!

Agree0 Disagree0

Newcastle, who in recent years have got most of their signings for relatively low prices from the French league, are going to spend £20m on two SPL? especially considering what Pardew has previously said about the SPL? Pardew is a person and we should avoid selling to any team he may manage.

Agree0 Disagree0

Newcastle are about to sell Yohan Cabaye to Monaco for 23M. Are you telling me that if Alan Pardew had the option of Hooper and Wanyama with cash to spare or Cabaye he would say no they are from the SPL so we are no paying that? If they were smart they will realise that the England strikers are p**h at the moment and Hooper could, if he become an International become a 20M player himself (EPL inflated mind you) and Wanyama's potential value speaks for itself. If these players were playing in any other league in Europe no one would blink an eye at these prices.
cw-88 {Ed007's Note - Newcastles' transfers are nothing to do with Pardew.}

Reliable source if hooper leaves pierre-michel lasoggo from hertha berlin 21, 6'2" will replace him.

green hornet

Believable9 Unbelievable12

We certainly were following him about 18 months ago - tried to get him on loan I think. Bit of a gamble, but if Celtic have been watching him, then this is a probable goer. No reason to disbelieve. jean-Pierre Laguerre

Agree0 Disagree0

Back to the days of pumping the ball up to 2 big front men?

Agree0 Disagree2

There is no chance Hertha BSC will sell Pierre-Michel Lasogga this season. They have just been promoted back to the Bundesliga and they will need him if they have any chance of staying up. If they were to sell him it would be for a huge figure.! People can dream tho.

southampton putting in a 8 million pound bid for gary hooper. jnh

Believable7 Unbelievable13

No chance. I would drive him down there myself if we got that though.

Iain

Agree0 Disagree0

Hooper was worth 8m 6months ago I would take 5m for him now, he's more or less got one foot out the door.

Lenny

Agree1 Disagree0

Does anyone really know for definate that Gary wants to leave? As far as i'm concerned I will believe it when it really happens. JK

Agree0 Disagree0

Find it strange that the price has doubled in a week, although Hooper at his best is well worth £8m. Will wait and see.
JK - I think the fact that he has never indicated he wants to stay and was close to going in January is what fans are thinking.

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

Neil Lennon has stated that his top priority is to keep Gary Hooper at the club. Personally I do think he will go, would love him to stay and strike up a deadly strike force with Balde. Still think we will get at least 6m. Ian L
