I'm not sure DRB he was still listed as a Celtic player this week. I just got this headline from Newsnow this evening. I don't know anything about the lad to be honest anytime i've discussed our keepers it's always Hazard or Doohan that's mentioned. What do you think yourself have you seen much of McAdams?

15 Jun 2017 21:23:17
He's the third best keeper we have under 21.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Both Hazard and Doohan are far more highly rated than McAdams who spent most of the season playing as an underage player in the Under 17's and never got a sniff of the CL Development matches this season.}

Cheers ED, when is the team back for preseason?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Monday for players who weren't involved in the recent internationals.}

15 Jun 2017 23:47:36

{Ed007's Note - No probs (yes )

Hadn't even heard of him stan but sure I seen it reported a couple of weeks ago along with the young Irish boy signing either that or deja vu gets real strong as you age.

ED what's your gut feeling in regards to PR is it a goer or not can u see him signing?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The longer it's going on the less likely it's looking.}

16 Jun 2017 06:30:53
Yeah I think that man c will have the final say cause I don't think Celtic could match the asking price compared to teams that have been mentioned before we even get to speak to PR and his agent.

"Celtic are one of 12 clubs pursuing the signature of Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts. " From the BBC

From what I've read, and Ed can clear this up, Man City aren't happy with our offer for him. And now we've got into a bidding war with clubs we cannot compete with.

I really hope we've not squandered the chance to sign him permanently.

15 Jun 2017 17:27:56
yes i think there's a few including huddersfield plus it seems man city would rather sell than loan and we have a bid in but its well below what they want.

15 Jun 2017 18:35:39
The story last week was that they'd accepted our offer. Until he's confirmed at a club it's all guesswork and rumour.

15 Jun 2017 20:43:02
If the fee for Roberts is way beyond what we can afford then fair enough, if however our board are playing silly games with Man City and we end up losing out on his signature, then I reckon there will be a fair bit of anger amongst the supporters.
With the money we earned last season from the Champions league, the money we will get when Van Djik moves on, and 50.000 season tickets sold, it would be terrible to lose a player of Roberts ability due to us trying to be too clever for our own good.

15 Jun 2017 21:29:13
Oh ye of little faith, If Celtic Manager, B Rodgers wants Roberts then there is no way Celtic will squander the opportunity to sign him .
We may not sign him, because Paddy wants different experience, or more money than Celtic want to pay . There can be any number, but I doubt if Brendan would allow Celtic to squander the opportunity . If I thought so I would consider ending my 50+ years supporting Celtic.

This is just typical Celtic, we will wait to see if we get into CL before we spend, you have 25m from ST sales, you have 6m from NB, you have 33m from CL it's embarrassing we don't just offer 8m plus sell on and add Ons, get the kid in and know he has resale value. But no we do what we do best we **** about and lose out as usual, oh Celtic are keeping tabs on this guy and that guy, **** keeping tabs just go and buy the player. Quality signings aye rite johnny Hayes is not better than what we have, we are being linked with nothing but dross and I for one am not happy that we have qualifying coming up and we are not adding the so called quality that BR is on about. Now I can handle it if a player chooses elsewhere or wants more money but this not being serious in our bids is just stupid, you also run the risk of losing that good relationship we have with city all because of another 3m. Poor Lawell very poor.

I don't think it's been published what we actually offered? Putting it simply if Roberts was our player outright and played the season he did what would you want for him? It's all well and good saying Armstrong 10m dembele 30m. If Roberts was our player I'd want more from him than we could offer. If we have pissed about with £5m addon deal then fair enough we will loose out. If we offered £5m upfront with an increase to 8m with adding fine. Have we done that?

15 Jun 2017 23:25:04
Need to remember guys if it costs celtic 8m for Roberts then he will want wages for an 8m player . Would we pay that much and risk unsettling a few of the others in the team who had far more game time?

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jun 2017 11:52:10
@jhonbhoy What's the alternative? Stay at the same level forever in case somebody takes the huff about wages?

Roberts was always going to be a difficult one for us. The value English clubs put on their players is astronomical. Man City are operating in a market that means they can ask, and get, £10m for Aaron Mooy! Harry Maguire goes from Hull to Leicester for £17m. Those fees are in a different stratosphere to where we are looking.

I have a feeling our best offer just wasn't good enough. I sincerely hope I am wrong though.

For crying out load Celtic! Just offer the 8 million for the bhoy! All this low bidding does my head in. We would definitely recoup any money we spend when he eventually moves on. Get it done fs! I would be happy with just paddy and no other signings.

Who made up this fictional figure of £8 m for Roberts . I am pretty sure it's an imaginary basis with absolutely no foundation based on facts .

Experts repeat made - up figures often enough for others to start believing them.

If signing Hayes is an alternative squad member for Roberts then a good player to have got, but if Hayes has come in as replacement for Roberts, because have not decided to pay out an extra few million to sign the boy then it's the usual biscuit tin mentality at celtic, surely though Rodgers won't put up with that cheapness, who knows though.

Do you think Roberts coming to Celtic is as simple as us paying the fee Man City want? Sorry but it's not. From what I can see Roberts is reluctant to come back north unless he is not given a chance at City and there are no other tempting others from English sides.

I'm not going to run to the Celtic Shop to get Hayes printed on the back of my jersey, but I do think he's as close as you can get to be guaranteed of someone who will do a job for us domestically.

It's sensible to have 2 players in your squad to cover every position, and with GMS and Christie likely to follow Commons out the door - it only really leaves Forrest and Sinclair who would play on either wing.

Signing Hayes would still leave us needing another winger in my opinion.

That is when the marquee will be whipped out.

I think being in a position to spend over £1M for a squad player shows how much of a strong position we're in financially. I've also stressed before that i would see him as an upgrade on Forrest and GMS.

Apparently Huddersfield are now keen to take Roberts on a season loan so wouldn't be suprised if he wants to try a year getting regular playing time in EPL as a last ditch attempt to make Man City think twice about selling him. Hope I'm wrong.

What are everyone's thoughts on Januzaj?

I have to admit Man Utd. are my English team (despite many of my buddies still hating Mourinho for Seville) .

When he played, he played! Seemed to be quite inconsistent tho; although, that could be down to him not having a regular 30+ games in the same position et al.

I'd be very happy if he was opposite Paddy on the wing. They can play either wing and he's a pacy wee guy.

As for Hayes, I'm on the fence. Maybe he's cover for Armstrong, since I'm sure he played AM quite a bit? Or maybe he didn't. Don't see him as cover for Paddy at all. Since he did get a boat-load of assists last season, bringing him off the bench w/ 20mins to go if we're needing an injection of creativity would be ideal?

As for 'marquee' signings. I think our strategy isn't to get in big names, but to bring-on new talent and maybe rejuvenate stale talent (Sinclair a prime example) .

Anyway, I'll let the replies rip right through that haha :) Hail Hail.
