Is there any truth in us being interested in Graham Potter of Swansea?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I think it's more a case of he's interested in us but according to some he is friendly with people involved at Celtic.}

Cheers ED.
I wasn't sure if it was just more SMSM paper talk.

{Ed007's Note - Potter's actually one of the better names that's been linked imo. He's a modern thinking manager/coach and I'd take him over the likes of a Moyes or Keane type. Read up on him, he's an interesting character, this is just from his Wiki page:

Potter has been recognised for his "progressive" and "unconventional" coaching methods. At Ostersund, he encouraged his players and staff to engage in community activities, such as performing in theatre and music productions designed to take them out of their comfort zone.

Potter describes his teams as "tactically flexible, attacking, [and] possession-based. At Ostersund, he deployed a flexible 3–5–2 formation centred on ball possession. Former Celtic and Barcelona player Henrik Larsson commented on Potter's pattern of play, stating he "played all different kinds of systems, starting off a match one way, and then halfway through they started playing a different system, and then they ended up with a third system. And all the players knew exactly what they were doing."

As a young coach, Potter studied the training methods of Roberto Martínez at Swansea and became inspired by his possession-based approach, along with the "holistic" training principles he observed during his travels to Spain.
Potter also cites the philosophy of Pep Guardiola and Raymond Verheijen’s periodisation model among his influences.

Marcelo Bielsa had this to say about him:

"He's English, he's a modern coach, he has new ideas, he brings new ideas. [Swansea is] a team that takes care of how they move the ball... in their style, the goalkeeper and defenders build from the back. And for me it’s the feature that you could underline from Swansea [under Potter]"

What do you think of potter ed? You think he would be good for Celtic or we too big for him?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think we would need a proper DOF type to work alongside Potter so that Pedro isn't running the footballing side again.}

15 Apr 2019 21:14:05
If we decided to go down the dof route, who would you like to see in that role for us?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Honestly I don't know. It's such a specialised job and the guys that do it are usually go unnoticed to the rank and file supporters like us. What about ex-Chelsea Technical Director Michael Emenalo who left Monaco a couple of months ago? It's never going to happen and would cost a fortune but how many of you guys have even heard of him - no offence btw I only know about these guys from doing the sites and talking to Ed001 and Ed002 etc.}

Ed I've heard a few time this season we want to go down the route of a DOF.
Did they not say Kennedy has been looked at for the role?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - A newspaper - I can't remember which one - ran the story not long after Rodgers left about Kennedy being promoted but I don't know how much truth there was in it.}

I remember him doing well with Ostersund, took the team from League 4 to the top division in consecutive season then got through the Europa League group and gave Arsenal a real fright in the last 32.
If Lawwell is looking for a guy to come in and maybe work on a smaller budget, he may be the guy although I don't know if they would pay the compensation that Swansea might ask for.

I certainly think we need to look at a DoF. Particularly if we're going to go with Lennon as has been said PL will run the footballing side of things and he doesn't have a footballing brain. As Ed points out a lot are unknown to most of us and the more reputable figues, we'd have no chance. After a bit of digging what about Jordi Cruyff? Currently with Maccabi Tel Aviv, so shouldn't be out of reach. He helped transform Larnaca to be the first Cypriot side to qualify for the Europa. And then they did it again the following season. Now in Israel Maccabi Tel Aviv are the big boys again after a long period of not being. They've also enjoyed a credible go in Europe too. He seems to like teams playing attractive, more importantly winning football. He has attracted good managers and players and he must have a decent contacts list. Just a suggestion.

Didn't Swansea give man City a real fright recently I didn't see the game but I heard a quote that Swansea played more like City than city did or something like that he sounds like the type of manager I would like someone who has the tactical knowledge to change things quickly when needed.
reflecting back to Valencia games you could see fairly early on in the first game we needed to change something but it took Rodgers till the second game to do it.

He did well at Ostersunds, but rising to the celtic job would be meteoric by any standards. So he beat arsenal. One to watch for sure tho.

If he comes I hope he brings Daniel James with him.

With Potter at the helm Swansea are currently sitting 12th in the Championship 28 points adrift of leaders Norwich, as one of the teams relegated with the payoff that’s not exactly a roaring endorsement for him getting the Celtic job in my estimations .

Anyone think Harry Redknapp could be a good shout for DOF if we was going down that route?

Manchester United after moussa dembelle. Anyone know if we had a sell on clause in his deal?

According to The Herald when MD left the fee was £18m up front with further £2.5 m plus sell on clause (no mention of percentage) .

{Ed007's Note - The information the Club gave the Stcok Exchange was that we received a one off payment of 22 million Euros for Dembele and there's no mention of any sell-on clause:

Would they normally include sell %'s when informing the stock exchange of player sales?

I really hope we weren't silly enough to miss the boat on his future fees, surely we all knew would end up at a massive club. It wouldn't be like pedro to miss a trick.

If we haven't an add - on deal with Dembele, I think the reason is that Lyons offered something like €15m plus % of next transfer or €22m and no % add on .
We can't make other clubs doneverything we want.

18 Apr 2019 07:20:01
We can't but we can always say no Deal.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2019 16:01:59
There wasn't any chance of saying "no deal" as Dembele was after Rodgers who was running for his life.
