Aye? Dundalks answer to Paddy Mc Court. Much as I loved paddy, being from my County, he was never Celtic standard,

Read that in the rags yesterday doesn't matter who he plays for just can he play and can he make the step up?

Paddy Mc Court's problem when he was at Celtic was that no other Celtic players could come near his ability or vision . His managers hadn't a notion how to use undoubted skills and so we didn't get the best out of Paddy .

By the way he is still scoring unbelievable goals, playing in the North of Ireland, as his wife was diagnosed with cancer when they returned from holiday.

Old bhoy that's a lot of nonsense about McCourt. His lack of athleticism and stamina were what his flaws were and for a team like Celtic they are in the top bracket for things that must be part of the players make up. McCourt had skill but was more unfit than Tom rogic. Bad news about his wife though hope she's alright.

Never seen him play any good or better than we have already.

McCourt from what I heard was fond of a refreshment or 2! And his time on the training field was poor to say the least! While no doubting he was a magnificent talent and he gave us some magic moments he wasn't cut out to be a regular first team player for a club like Celtic! It was nothing to do with the managers he had! And I had heard about his wife's condition, I wish her and the family all the best.

When he signed for us me and the family were on holiday and I bumped into an Irish bhoy from his home town and he basically said he had great skill but would never be fit, bhoy was bang on the money wasted talent.

Paddy Mc Court only needed half the fitness because he had more than twice the skill of any of his team- mates . We have people on here now questioning the need for 24 hour althetic lifestyle and laughing at manager's who try to introduce it .
Surely when Paddy was playing for us m if our manager had anything ability to manage, he would have been able to develop a style of play to incorporate Paddy's undoubted ability .

Back in the 50's J Mc Gory had to develop a game plan which incorporated Charlie Tully leaving a pub in thee Gallowgate at 2.30 and Celtic fans getting him into a taxi .
I think Paddy was always fitter than Charlie.

I was hoping that fall might have knocked some sense into you Chris ;)

That's garbage about Paddy only needing half the fitness. The fact he was only ever half fit at best is exactly why he didn't reach his potential.

That's some story oldbhoy, I just picture Tully being dragged out of the pub and bundled into a taxi 1 hr before the game. back then footballers were a lot more approachable and a bit more tuned in to what's going on in the real world. The modern footballs seem to detach themselves from those who pay their wages.
Paddy is fairing out a lot better than the sewer rat Novo then.
Hope Mrs Mc Court makes a full recovery.

Oldbhoy you need the right attitude to go along with the talent and that's what paddy lacked no desire to be the best and fulfil his undoubted potential, you can have all the skill and ability in the world but it's nothing without the right attitude and work ethic.

Here here Mally I will second that. Chris there's no point in having ability if you can't apply it. 1 lung had fantastic ability but couldn't last 20 minutes just another waste of undoubted talent.

I've been watching Daryl Horgan for the past two years - He's NOT Dundalk's answer to Paddy. He's maybe not quite as skillful but He's lightning fast even in Europe against the likes of Zenit and Alkmaar. Google his goal against Zenit. I'd expect him to make the leap very well and very quickly.

Actually it was after 2.30 when Charlie left the pub . Celtic fans often pulled one or two fans that were already in a taxi and put Charlie in .

Paddy McCourt scored some of the best individual goals and assisted in great goals, that we have scored in the last 10 yrs . Our manager insisted that Paddy would cover back, that wasn't in his game . It was foreign to him . Unlike virtually every other Celtic player of the last 10 yrs Paddy offered enough going forward for the manager to see that his lack of defensive qualities didn't matter, and if he had Paddy would have been even more devastating going forward.

Because of his wife's illness, he opted for Irish League and is playing with Glenavon.
