You've got to be kidding me

Oh for f*ck sake, Lee Naylor? And an over the hill Lee Naylor now to boot. This is a wind up, surely. Of all the youth and development players, Uk, European and non eu footballers we could sign as cover for left back you've landed on Lee Naylor. If your being serious with this post then it's got to rank up there with the worst transfer suggestions of the season. Definitely the least imaginative.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is a wind up no body could say that seriously lol

First time around he had a few good games then did nothing for years-he had a great game against Ronaldo in the Utd game and lived off it for years! We shouldn't be in this position-Lennon has been telling us he wanted cover at left back for more than a year, and at centre half we have lost Rogne/Gershon and now the French lad has just snapped his achilles, and have a young lad (Dirk) with hardly any experience, certainly none in Europe. Between that and all the messing around with a striker, it's a complete joke when you look at all the money we have brought in. Vossen at genk for eg was obviously available at the right price-Middlesbrough thought they had him for 4/4.5 million(and he was prepared to go there) so I'm sure we could have got him for 5/6 million, what a signing he could have been, he has a far better pedigree than Finbogasson(he has scored for fun since he was a kid, not just for 1 season) and Belgium are producing the best young players in Europe at present! I'm totally disgusted, Lawwells mantra is we plan to come out the window stronger than when we went into it, well Pistol Pete you failed spectacularly! Paul

Lee Naylor?!

God, whilst we are at it let's give Mo Camara and Paul Telfer a ring!

Steady on chaps!
At 33 he isn't the answer to our current predicament but Naylor was a decent servant to Celtic when he was here. I for one don't think he ever got the credit he deserved when he was a Bhoy and think he could have continued for another year or two. He was no flash Harry but he was a steady performer who gave everything when he was on the pitch.
With Stan we all said that we never forget our own so let's keep that mantra going for all ex-players of our great club. Except Anton Rogan.
And Carl Muggleton.
And Rafael Scheidt (dammit, if ever a player had the perfect name to match their ability it was good old Rafael! lol)

W.T.F. IS LENNOXTOWN FOR? GET RIDE IT ain't DOING WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN FACT .al geri

Agree0 Disagree0

Alright Chris-you shouldn't even be mentioning muggleton in the same breath as Rogan-who had a far better attitude than Naylor, technically he wasn't great but he was a real trier with a good cross, he also truly loved the club and had to put up with a lot of hassle over in the North of Ireland long before Lenny did! Should we not be recalling Jackson Irving/Irvine from his loan? I saw him a couple timed per season and he looks first team ready to me.

I can't believe how many agree with this post! We have brown, Ledley, kayal, mcgeough, biton, rogic the boy needs game time let him develop rather than be a bit part player

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with SOS BHOY, he looks like he could be a cracking player, but give him some game time, rather than some occasional bench time in the same league. He could seriously challenge for a place in a couple of seasons.

Unlike Bangura, I wouldn't mind seeing the lad line up against us, just to see how he would cope when he is up against the current first team line up.

Agree0 Disagree0

SOS Bhoy, I meant to post this in regards to us losing Mouyokolo, for the season to injury, so apologies for any confusion.
However the players you mention in your reply aren't centre halfs. Jackson is at least 20 years old now, so is not a pup and his development would be best served in the celtic backline. Considering we will win the SPL in our sleep this year, we can afford him game time in the league. And who knows if he excels he could provide CL cover.
So in summary, I don't see you can be amazed at how many people agree with this.
In addition, the chances of us signing an out of contract centre back outside of the transfer window, who is actually first team ready or any good, are slim!

Wtbhoy {Ed007's Note - Irvine is a CM.}

Exactly he's a cm and even if he was a defender he would still end up 4/5th choice so a really bad move give him a year in the spl and let's see what he can do

{Ed007's Note - Jean-Pierre Laguerre: Regarding Onyewu, Copenhagen, Charleroi and Stuttgart showed interest in Onyewu over the summer, obviously Charleroi being the Belgian interest you mentioned. I would say Stuggart would have been the preferred destination out of those three but nothing came of their interest. As you say he is currently training with Metz to improve/maintain his fitness and they will most likely look to offer him a contract to return to the club.}

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Cheers Ed. also heard FC Brugge - another of his pld clubs - were sniffing about. Metz are just promoted to Ligue2, so if Celtic were to get our act together, we could surely have him in for a trial at least. Jean-Pierre Laguerre {Ed007's Note - I would like to think so. With the injury to Mouyokolo I wouldn't like us to be caught out at the back numbers wise as the season grinds on and niggling injuries, suspensions on top of the League and Scottish Cup matches coming round.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed do u not think with what we have and maybe a youth cb we could last until January? He can't play cl so why not let youth play spl {Ed007's Note - Marcus Fraser is out injured until the New Year or he would have been ideal to step up. I've not seen enough of the youth lately to know if any the other youngsters are ready to move up to the first-team, obviously NL and his staff aren't confident enough in any of them or they would have been promoted without it becoming a necessity. A lot of CFC fans would see youth promotion as the board not spending money and they are very quick to get on a player's back if he makes any mistakes, young players are always prone to mistakes though, it is how they learn. The pressure put on youngsters in the past by sections of the CFC support has hindered players development.
Imagine how bad the grief would be in this day and age of social media if a young defender made a mistake that cost us 3 points, would you like to put an 18 yr old in that position?
McGeady could have been a much better player if he wasn't playing with fear of the boo-boys screaming at him every time he messed up as youngster. It happens at every big club though these days, far too many fans are caught up with transfer fees and finances. It is one of the main reasons players are loaned out rather than giving first-team chances, hopefully they will get game time to hone their skills, and learn from their mistakes elsewhere. After the Barca game people were saying Tony Watt should be starting every match, or clamouring for Watt to come on if we needed a goal. Yet look at the grief Stokes gets when he is playing, whether he plays well and score or not he divides the support, that kind of mixed message and spotlight can ruin a young player.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I've not seen enough to say who could step up either but the spl isn't going to be lost by 3 points here or there after some of our league performances last year maybe hungry youth players could step up. Surely the next John Kennedy is hiding somewhere in our academy

SOS BHOY {Ed007's Note - I completely agree the league isn't going to be lost but look at the long term effect on young players coming into our first team over recent years, any mistakes are noted and constantly used as a rod against them.
It is probably one of the reasons Forrest hasn't progressed as he should have as well, youngsters are afraid to relax and play their natural game, they are too busy concentrating on the negativity of not making a mistake rather than just playing the game and taking a positive chance, defence is probably the worst position to make mistakes in as they can lead to conceding goals which can severely knock any player's confidence, it's just it can be more difficult to .
Look at Mulgrew's situation, he had to leave the club altogether to realise his potential and came back a far better player than the one who left.
I love seeing quality young players coming through the ranks, sadly these days of TV and media saturation they need to be nurtured in a different way to bygone days.
The pressure put on young players today is much more claustrophobic than it was in the days of Dalglish, Charlie Nicholas etc. Loaning out players allows them to get game time, make their mistakes and learn from them, it also toughens them up for the physicality of playing at a higher level. Sports psychology is as much a part of the modern game as physical training and coaching.
I bet you wish you had never asked now!}

All of the LIONS, except Jim Craig and Steve Chamers, were playing first team football as teenagers. Jonbhoy {Ed007's Note - And.......? My wife's grandfather started working in the coal mines when he was 13.}
