Hi Ed, just been told Celtic F.C. will not be using Big Vics money unless we get to the group stages? This is absolutely shocking if true, and was also informed the hoops will be off before the end of July, Norwich is his port of call. I really hope its rubbish, and the board don't try and pull a fast one.

Where did you hear this. It doesn't sound true to me, and Hooper has been making the right noises that he wants to stay, although I don't really understand that. I thought he wanted to leave last season.

To slightly paraphrase - "Every penny generated will be invested into the team" - Well, Mr. Lawell, let's see it, get a couple players of real value in #fingerscrossedasalways

If it is true then fair enough its a saftey net for us financially tbh we should make the groups stage anyway

They've done it plenty times before and will do again so wouldn't be surprised, this would be the worst season of all given what money has been brought in.
Sure it goes along the line of, had to keep the money due to shortfall on income on failure to gain entry to CL! Surely they can't account for money they don't have (again)

It will be easier to attract better players if we qualify and I expected that.
What I did not expect was for Vic to be pushed out the door before we had even played one qualifier - soon to be followed by Hooper if you are correct - when we are clearly not as prepared as we would like.
The other piece of bad business in my opinion is all clubs know Celtic have just made £12m+ and any future target will cost possibly twice as much?

Why should we make the group stage? . We've just lost our main part of the engine room . I think that we need to make the group stage so that means splashing the cash for some quality additions . DH

Planning to fail is failing to plan. If true this delay makes no sense. I have been more critical than most regarding the board and their big strategy of buying small and selling big. What is the point if we fail to get to the group stages! Seriously we may as well just work in our domestic league and develop all our own players. I would rather that than be treated like a mushroom. Spotcelt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Obviously we are going to go low key again, with today's headline Celtic got 12m, if we looked at mackay steven today, united would be shouting 5million etc etc, clubs will want top dollar for their tea lady if celtic come calling. I reckon Neil Lennon and John Park, will have a couple lined up and they will be working away in the background as per usual

Some of the money for Vic will be used to tie up Hoops, Ledley, Stokes & Sammy on improved deals then if we get to the CL group stage we might get a couple of decent signings too. I would be happy to trust our scouts to come up with another couple of unknown kids that fit our profile. buy potential and sell superstars! (CLK)

The longer you take to get your targets in the less chance you have of getting them, if they are any good. al geri.

Surely the money from big vic should b used to make sure we get to the group stage. Its no guarantee but it would give our squad a boost adding some quality across a few positions.

Craigy

Agree0 Disagree0

The money from VW and GH should be used to secure the players still there better money and longer deals, and a few new faces.
Good luck to VW and GH I think they both will need a lot of luck, both could be heading to the back waters of english football time will tell but I can not see any of them winning anything where they are going.

If Celtic don't make the cl group stages the Celtic board could be in hot water as the fans will surely blame them it's a dodgy move if true not spending til qualification, but one thing really gets to me mr Desmond has a reported wealth of billions his legacy when gone and buried will be the man who never had a crack at it there's only so much money you can spend and I think his kin is well looked after for life it just don't make sense why he is at paradise

Agree0 Disagree0

"If Celtic don't make the cl group stages the Celtic board could be in hot water as the fans will surely blame them"
can't just blame the board. we could spend millions and still not qualify. What a lot of fans won't do is blame Lennon. regardless of how much money there is, he sets up the team. picks the 11. any failure to qualify, then questions must be asked of Lennon.

Samson

The board appointed Lennon. Ultimately its their responsibility. You can devolve authority but they are responsible. Sopotcelt.

Is there any interest in Junior(Bernard) Mandala from Celtic? Would be perfect for us because he is an absolute beast like Vic Wanyama and he is only 18 years old and is on a free transfer?

Have tipped this guy heavily on this site - and others. If Celtic can see the potential, they should act on him now, as richer clubs will come calling soon enough. He is actually still growing, and as he came through the youth system at Lille, he is a good technical player too. He was a huge factor in Zulte Waregem's season going so well. I have tipped him, Rabiu (Evian) or Mbodj (R Genk) as Wanyama's replacement. Jean-Pierre Laguerre
{Ed007's Note - Mandala is not a free agent JPL, he is contracted until 2015. Everton and Fulham have a sustained interest in Zulte Waregem's Malanda and Wolfsburg have been in contact with his club - but there is a complication as he is looking to force a move out of the country using Belgium's employment laws. This gives potential for claims to be made, a tribunal and a court case before anything could happen - and that may take months. This ugly and unpopular route of action has been going on since July 1 and legal advice to the player has been to return to his club and request a transfer, hoping that the club lower their valuation.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I've been saying this for a wee while. He would be ideal, sure he's still under contract at zulte. Apparently arsenal are looking at him now though. Rabiu at evian would also be a beast.
Bbben

Agree0 Disagree0

He apparently has many premier league clubs interested in him and he wants a move to England or Germany. An unrealistic target for us it may seem.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bbben - I like rabiu too, but I now (all of a sudden) see that the epl makeweights like fulham are sniffing about him too. Celtic need to (somehow) make sure they are ahead of these teams by acting earlier. If you and me can see (from TV I assume) that Rabiu is capable, then surely a pro team like celtic can get there sooner. Difficult with the transfer window etc, but if we want to be ahead of the game we have to scout like crazy. Porto, Udinese, Genk, etc can all do it - so we have to be at that level to keep ahead of the epl money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bbben - just on the subject of Evian - I am sure Celtic are keeping a close eye on them anyway - there are several interesting players in their squad, although Rabiu is the standout for me. Jean-Pierre Laguerre.

Don't think there will b a replacement for vic they'll use efe/rogic in there and buy a left back and mayb forward player of some sort. We need this money in the bank and that's a full contract away

Efe in midfield scares me, too laxed, casual
