Derby County have completed the signing of Dundee United striker Johnny Russell for a fee of around £750,000.

Believable11 Unbelievable4

I am certain that if Celtic had made a serious enquiry the price would have been double that.
So basically, Dundee Utd have virtually given away a bright young player.
Derby must be sniggering smugly.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

JR was not any better than the strikers that can't get a game a Celtic No way was is he better than Tony Watt

Johnny Russell has signed for Derby so let's put that rumour to bed and hopefully Neil will have someone better in his mind.
Mrs M.

Believable10 Unbelievable4

Hi Guys, not to happy that we let Russell go for such low money.
We have bought worse players and paid a lot more than £750k.

Hope Lenny has a decent player lined up other than Balde

HH {Ed007's Note - Russell wasn't our player to sell. The fee has no bearing on nothing our club does or ever will do.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Here mrs m are you relatit tae mrs e?
that wid mean you two your me?

Agree1 Disagree0

Another good young player slipped through our hands. pity. Julieghirl

Agree1 Disagree0

Note to Ed007`s.
I am fully aware that Russell was not OUR player to sell. Given that most Celtic fans wanted to see him at Parkhead, I believe he would have been a very decent buy at that price.
It looks (from the outside) that Lenny has other targets.

cprs1 {Ed007's Note - So why are you, 'HH not to happy that we let Russell go for such low money' Either you are a Dundee United fan or are just like the majority fans should stay away the financial side of things. If CFC wanted Russell the price was £1.5 m.}

Agree0 Disagree0

This would lead me to believe that Hooper is staying, just a thought guys!

Agree0 Disagree0

Heres my view. I agree with the poster here Edd the fact even at 1.5mill he would have made a a very good squad player and is young. I am quite gutted that Celtic didn't get him! But on the reverse side of this we can't knock our scouting system so keep the faith HH Scotibhoy

Agree0 Disagree1

We don't even need another striker at the minute. hooper hasn't left yet. I have a feeling he probably will be, and with the money we'd net from him I think we'll be able to look at better players than johnny russell.

Agree1 Disagree0

If what Ed says is true, that the price was double for us then I'm glad we didn't bid for him. Not worth that kind of money. Utd stupid for playing celtic like that. They could have sold for the same price and taken a few of our youngsters on loan into the bargain. They have lost a few other players so could have been a win win for both teams.

Agree0 Disagree1

But say for instance ed and any other poster who didn't want Russell and I mean for instance if Lennon signs Doyle as a squad player then we do have to have a think about what the club was thinking not signing Russell

SOS BHOY {Ed007's Note - If that happened I would be questioning why we signed Doyle.}

Agree0 Disagree1

My pal who plays for Dundee utd says Russell was gutted Celtic didn't come in for considering how well he played and scored against our cl defenders, he was up for grabs for £750k to both derby and celtic {Ed007's Note - Plenty of players will be gutted they never get a chance to play for CFC. Tell your friend to concentrate on his own career.}

Agree0 Disagree0

It actually believe that Ed is right (and I rarely agree with him). Utd wouldn't have done business with us at the same price. Better to sell him for a bit less to a club outwith our league. Thompson tried to goad us into bidding by coming out in the papers a few days before saying that Derby wasnt a done deal knowing full well he wouldn't sell to us at the same price. Hibs did something similar with Fletcher, fans had already saw Whittaker, Brown, Thomson, Caldwell and Riordan move to us of the deceased and Petrie knew they would be up in arms if he sold Fletcher to us too. Held on for 6 months and sold him to Burnley.

Agree0 Disagree0

Doyle won't be a squad player for Celtic. He is a cracking footballer he almost kept Wolves up 1st season in premier on his own. His form subsided season by season until last season wasn't worth his place in champ. There has been a lot of off field problems at Wolves started by McCarthy and compounded by poor decisions by the board and subsequent managers. Doyle has handled himself correctly despite what's gone on. He will be one of the few players Wolves fans will be wishing the best for the future. He just needs a fresh start and a bit of confidence and you will get a top player.

Amido Balde at celtic park to discuss terms. His agent says a move to palace was never on the cards. Never heard of this bloke but I had also never heard of kayal izzy and big vic.
Hew1888

Believable12 Unbelievable3

We had him on trial awhile back, don't know why we didn't buy him then but we were meant to be looking at soudani who also played with guimaraes so he must have improved and impressed, he looks fast, strong, good touch, he also goes on them frank mcgarvey runs where no one knows how it will turn out, he looks decent in the air and on you tube his goals look varied ie headers tap ins and a couple of screamers, heres hoping if he signs he is the big targetman physical presence we've lacked but with some flair thrown in as well, hopefully a mix of sutton and van hooidonk or is that asking (wishing) for too much,, deep river bhoy

I hope that John Park and his team have found another Diamond.

At least he looks that part

Amido balde in Glasgow for medical! He said to Portuguese media it was easy to turn to a a move to crystal palace as the passion and ambition of the celtic fans will be a big step in furthering his career. Hail hail!

Believable11 Unbelievable3

If he turned us down for Crystal Palace then he wouldn't be the player we want anyway. Hope he signs. Excited about the lad. The whole holding a scarf before he's signed is a bit of a cheap tactic aimed at other clubs though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mo Johnston did exactly the same thing before he signed for the team formerly known as rangers.

1st time on site. Balde arrived at Glasgow airport with Celtic scarf on, at last we landed a quality Striker with attitude and a stature that will frighten defences. Fact!

Believable11 Unbelievable5

Steviebhoy, we haven't landed him yet.

Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

Camera man had the scarf and stuck it in him

Ska bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

How do you know he's quality? And he's not signed yet!
Hopefully he does sign and hopefully he does turn out to be quality, he's shouted his mouth off in an an interview so he better produce the goods, given our recent form with some strikers!
I do think we've been shouting out for a ball winning CF since Sutton, hopefully this guy can turn out to be half of that at early age
IF he's signs.

Posted on Friday that although the press said Balde had snubbed Celtic for Palace, I said that the the deal would still go through for Monday.

Got a bit slaughtered, looks like I was right

The Russell deal was a formality, but Celtic didn't pursue when Balde decided to join us.

Hey fella,

I may off been one of those, I know I commented on 1 such story. Hold my hands up.

Sorry Jason

Russell and Balde are different type of players so not linked. Problem was Russell deal has come too soon in transfer window and was only a back up

Agree0 Disagree0

To big Jason

You actually said Johnny Russell was having a medical at Rossall, Celtic do there Medicals at Lennoxtown, so again you were wrong on that one, now what you are saying was it was formality once Balde had declared his interest in coming to Celtic, so what happened there then, did they show Johnny Russell the door half way through his medical because Balde's agent was on the phone.

You were found out talking Tam McKnight, just admit it and move on, doesn't make you a bad guy, lol

Rangers fan comin in peace I heard a rumour Carlton cole could be headin your way been released from west ham as I say just a rumour going around!

Believable8 Unbelievable12

9 goals in 27 games hardly record breaking tbh

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be a great signing. Just the big striker we need (not my opinion)
Hew1888

Agree1 Disagree0

He'll end up at LA Galaxy.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Rangers Fan: Na mate. We hear this all the time. TBH, would be very surprised if we signed him. He isn't great and will demand a big salary. I see him going to somewhere like Fulham. But I would expect more rumours like this over the next 2 months LOL. SB

Certainly in a galaxy far far away. Sopotcelt.

Amido balde looks set to sign for Celtic. Can someone tell me his goal scoring stats, can't seem to find them anywhere.

Believable9 Unbelievable3

9 goals in 19 games last season

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest i'd never heard of him until we were linked with him. Got a few videos on youtube and he looks quite strong but doesn't seem to be able to finish
DAMO1888

Agree0 Disagree0

9 goals in 31 games and was subbed in 8 of those he is in the drogba mould without the goals or the skill he is big and strong likes to shoot but can't hit the target. he will terify the spl but don't think he is good enough for CL Andreas Cornilious at Copenhagen is much better and is a classic goalscorer John

Agree0 Disagree0

Really not interested in his goal scoring stats from last season. Stats can be very misleading. Henrik couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo before he came. I'll judge on what he does in the hoops. Nothing else.
JamesMcG

Agree1 Disagree0

Maybe he's no scored any if you can't find them :)

Agree0 Disagree0

League: 9 in 27 matches
cups: 0 in 4

Agree0 Disagree0

Stats can be broken down and taken in different ways! Also if Balde had scored week in week out, Celtic wouldn't be in with a chance of signing him!

So. 9 goals in 27, 18 of them were starts (9 sub) £2mil?

Ricky Van Wolfswinkle, 30 starts 14 goals!
Can't remember what he cost £12mil? so like I said, can be taken in different ways, going by that Balde has a better goals to starts ratio :)

Bobo looks more likely to be heading to Crystal Palace and help them avoid relegation if you believe the media. Personally think he will prefer a crack at ECL myself but he does sound like a weird character anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just watched video of balde if we can sign this young lad he will run riot in the s p l very impressive, let's get him signed up meagle tim
