who does everyone think will captain celtic when brown is out we lack leaders I would give it to VVD if he's still here mulgrew commons or lustig

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mulgrew or commons would get it but I agree vvd is a leader!

Agree0 Disagree0

Under NL, it would've been Commons or Mulgrew. Under RD, it could be someone else! As I've said on here before, we sold our true leader to Crystal Palace in January.

HB under RD playing a 4-3-3 am beginning to wonder wear commons and mulgrew fit in mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed HB ledley would have been my captain if he was here but who do u think has the attributes to be captain now I don't see anyone head n shoulders above the rest apart from VVD

Agree0 Disagree0

Mulgrew will or should struggle for a first team place, Vvd like Wanyama and Hooper before is trying to orchestrate his move to England so shouldn't be considered.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Jamie, Mulgrew could be backup at CB / LB. RD tried Commons on the left of Brown (RW) + Johansen (CM) the first two games, hard to judge before the proper football kicks off but.

I'd give Lustig the armband Gordy! Seems a level headed and influential individual. What about you, who'd be your stand-in / VC?

Agree0 Disagree0

The stand-in should be committed to the club like Mulgrew,, Commons, Izzy, Stokes or even big Ambrose and it might even bring the best out in them?

Agree0 Disagree0

Virgil HB but think mulgrew will get it

Agree0 Disagree0

Lustig IMO is more commited than most and he would also be my captin whenever brown is out!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lustig for me too , can see it happening as well , Scandanavian link, best player in last season CL campaign and just committed to us as well, can see johansen (LM) combo of Brown , Biton , Henderson and Kayal being (CM) and (RM) he will play Leigh G @ (LF) Pukki (RF) (he played well there @ Schalke!) and stokes through the middle , would have to play 4-3-1-2 to accommodate Commons in that format IMO papers already saying Mulgrew will need to get use to being a CH again to play , can see RD playing the youth big time now! atb JB7 your thoughts ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I would give the captaincy to Lustig as well but I think it will go to Mulgrew if he is playing. I can see him playing just in front of the defence protecting the CBs and covering for the FBs when they are up the park attacking. He'll more than likely play at CB on Tuesday against KR Reykjavík instead of Ambrose. Commons has never convinced me on the European stage so if he starts it's got to be out on the left.
Deila has hopefully seen a few of the youth players he can work with and help develop.}

I would be very disappointed in Ronnie Deila if he didn't chose his formation that he will play to suit his best players.
I think it is very poor of a manager who is stuck to one formation and uses it regardless of his players .

how about this for a poll ed is VVD worth 5-8 million 9-11 12-14 or 15 or more same with FF

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - No probs, Gordy.

To vote in the Fraser Forster poll click here.

AND

To vote in the Virgil van Dijk poll click here.

Cheers again ed

If we are going by the money being spent in engerland £15 million plus

That's brown out for the next 3 months. We definitely need to get a new cm in NOW.

I think Josh McEachran could do well for us. Only 21 so will only get better. Not sure about his wages or how much he would cost though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

09 Jul 2014 21:05:28
Has Kayal and Biton been sold?

Agree0 Disagree0

Would rather give biton henderson mcgeouch or mcgregoer a chance first I like how rd has started u need to show u want to be there n put the effort in

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd stay well clear of English players. Pricewise, and end product? There's better elsewhere. Scandanavia, Eastern Europe, Netherlands, France, Italy, etc are the countries we should be scaling!

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jul 2014 13:18:27
Kayal, with a decent break and an extended run is as good as any player at club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bigbhoy Henderson is 18 and getting more influential in every game he plays, mgeoch was great in cm in last game so why nurture players for others get our own playing

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye, I think we need to be careful who we buy in this season . We have many positions covered by young players and they need to get games this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

The positions we need cover /competition for are CB, LB, RW, LW + AMC / SS. Hopefully the youths can step up and fill the voids though!

Laurence Robertson (Tory MP for Tewkesbury) has submitted the following EDM [early day motion] for debate in the House of Commons to form a UK national team based on England's failure at the World Cup:

"That this House notes with regret England's early exit from the 2014 World Cup; recalls that England has not won the World Cup since 1966; further notes that on three occasions since 1966 England has failed to qualify for the World Cup Finals at all, that Scotland has only qualified for eight World Cup Finals out of a total of 20, that Northern Ireland has only qualified for three and Wales has only qualified for one in 1958; believes that fielding four teams from the UK reduces the chances of success and has denied World Cup opportunities to outstanding British players; observes that no other nation fields more than one national team; and calls on the football authorities in each of the home countries to come together and form one national football team covering the UK."

Surely this shouldn't even be open to debate?

Personally I couldn't give a monkeys about the England or Scotland national teams so I see no harm in this moving forward.

By disbanding both the FA and SFA in favour of a unified set up this would obviously have a knock on effect on the league structrue as if FIFA would only be recognising one association, UEFA would have the same attitude. It's probably our only hope of playing in a bigger and more lucrative league.

That's my 2 cents anyway, come on La Albiceleste!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well, my thoughts are if there is a No vote on Independence then maybe its time to have just one national team ( don't get me wrong, that British National anthem is rotten ) But a team with the best from each country might just progress. I think Gareth Bale would surely appreciate it.

This in turn should then lead to a simple transfer for Celtic to the Premiership.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see how a UK national team would improve their chances. We all seen how "Team GB" [insert any word other than PERFORMED] under Pearce at the Olympics a couple of years ago:

Beat Uruguay + UAE, drew with Senegal + South Korea - who put them out on pens.

Better together? Just another lie from another Tory!

Agree0 Disagree0

Being realistic, other than Bale + Ramsey, what players would end up getting capped? Most of the current Scotland squad are made up of Anglo-Scots not good enough to play for England at the moment! Wales have a fair share of English born Welshmen and the North of Ireland have a few, as well as a couple from the Republic who were uncapped!

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jul 2014 16:37:48
like I said before I couldn't care less about such a team would fare, but how can you say it would not improve their chances?

Gareth Bale would improve any team on Earth!

As for your point about team GB, surely the fact they beat Uruguay as opposed to England's capitulation nullifies your point?

Only interested in Celtic and a UK national team would have to mean UK league too, that's good enough for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Any UK league would be immediately weakened though, as soon as UEFA sanction a breakdown of borders all of Europe's major clubs will look at maximising their income and teams like Man Utd, Chelsea, City and Arsenal would leave to join a European Super League, taking the majority of TV money with them.
So far CFC haven't been included in talks so unless there is a lower division of any ESL we would be stuck playing the likes of Wigan and Stoke while seeing a massive drop in TV revenue from the levels in England enjoy just now.}

I personally would hate to lose Scotland as my national team, I have no interest in England and I think it would be a bad thing for an amalgamation of the four home teams

Agree0 Disagree0

Dear Lawrence Robertson,

Instead of whining like a little b*tch about how England got their ar$e handed to them on a plate, why not propose an enquiry into the real problem killing the game- Sky Tv!

Maybe then you will see how the scottish game is on its ar$e and a massive club like celtic have a major financial disadvantage when competing against clubs of similar size in europe!

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed 7 do you not think if borders are broken down, Celtic with the crowds they can get would be an attraction to the bigger european league if it were to arise?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - As things stand right now CFC's only chance of being involved is if there is a 2 or 3 tier system where we would be in the lower league(s) and I can't see that happening right away, we have never been invited to talks about the break-away league.
The size of fanbase isn't a factor, Newcastle have a higher average attendance than teams like Chelsea, Man City and Monaco yet they would be also looking at a lower ESL level.}

Same Vambo! A UK team would only open the door to a Scandanavian team, a Low Countries team, a new Soviet Union / CIS team, a new Yugoslav team, a possible United Ireland team, etc so it wouldn't increase our chances at all.

Once you start dissolving national teams, how long before it opens the door to scrap continental tournaments (Euro Champs, Copa America, etc) and the World Cup consists of Team AFC, Team CAF, Team CONCACAF, Team CONMEBOL, Team OFC + Team UEFA?!

So, according to the Daily R*nger, Benfica are going to make a £6m bid for Benfica as "money is to object" to the Portuguese club? Well if that's the case, tell them to double that figure then we'll start talking!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

** no object

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly. I've just been ignoring the mainly English press' £6m figures for both Virgil and Forster. Way of the mark when you look at figures for Shaw, McCormack et. al. What did that journo do? Roll a die to come up with those figures. Like JC says, it will take 'silly money', well, silly SPFL money at least.

Agree0 Disagree0

U wrote benfica instead of Forster as well mate lol u must need another cup of coffee this morning.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is this the usual "unsettling" transfer news coming out early before an important celtic game? Hmmm got to love the SMSM, they defo never try to miss an opportunity do they!

Agree0 Disagree0

Fingers crossed the board play hardball after the figures branded about English football this transfer window already:

- £40-50m for Sideshow Bob (David Luiz) who was almost at fault for every German goal last night;
- £11m for Ross McCormack between two 2nd tier clubs;
- £25m for one season wonder Adam Lallana;
- £27-31m for Luke Shaw who's still a teenager;
- £8m for Jake Livermore from Spurs to Hull;
- £4m for journeyman Rickie Lambert?!

Agree0 Disagree0

The goalkeeper Benfica just let go to Athletico has only played a few games and he's valued at about 20million Euro. Ideally we would want a big Brittish club to come in for Forster, I don't think any of them badly need a keeper at present though. He's still very young, he should stay another year, show everyone how good he can be again in Europe, and he'll get his pick of clubs. I don't think Portugal would be a good move for him anyway - and also, if he doesn't see his Dr girlfriend much because he's in Glasgow, well surely Portugal would be even less practical. I would rather keep Forster than Virgil, - Virgil isn't as good as he thinks he is/some fans think he is. He has potential to be good, but at the moment he still has a bit to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

@ HB, I would be disgusted if Benfica signed Forster for anything less than 10 million. There young keeper may well be good but Forster has proven quality in the Champions League for a few years. Is it £15 million Atletico paid for him?

@ Paul1 - I would say Arsenal badly need a keeper. That Polish lad is second to Boruc and on his day he can be hit and miss. Apart from Arsenal, I would say De Gea, Courtois, Hart and Mignolet are all safe for No 1 position. Spurs if they sell Lloris would be a nice fit for big FF

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree mate, I meant from their managers point of view, I think Arsenal might be spending their cash elsewhere, and might persevere with their keeper. Lloris leaving would probably be ideal, I think Pochettino was looking at Forster when he was at Southampton. People still have doubts about Forster, he needs to blow them away. He has the tools to be one of the best keepers that ever played the game, but he needs to be more commanding, the way Schmeichel was - when he came for a ball he was super brave, and just cleared out everything in front of him, including his own centre halves. He should look at Manuel Nauer, he is the best keeper alive, and it's partly because of the confidence he exudes, the way he reads things. Forster is still a baby for a keeper-he has 15 years in him, he was also a late starter, so he should just chill out at Celtic, if he keeps improving he'll get any move he wants. I think Forster is the only player in our team who could potentially play for a Barca etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought Barca would've seriously considered a move for FF since Valdes + Pinto were off. Instead they've signed Marc-Andre ter Stegen from Gladbach + Claudio Bravo from R. Sociedad for €12m each!

Any chance some one could post a link for the highlights of the game? Couldn't get a good enough stream to watch so only seen 5 mins of the second half Cheerz in advance.

Cheerz for that ed! Loved the pass for the balde goal great vision from mcgeough!

Agree0 Disagree0

Some impressive displays, defence at times seems a tad worrying but its early doors and can't wait to see how this CL qualifier goes

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we'll have a better idea come Friday (Dukla Praha game).

First two games were a 4-3-3 with the same starting XI:

Zaluska
Lustig – van Dijk – Mulgrew – Twardzik
Brown – Johansen – Commons
McGeouch – Stokes – Boerrigter

A few changes made last night, as well as reverting to a 4-2-3-1:

Zaluska
Matthews – O'Connell – Findlay – Waters
Biton – Henderson
Griffiths – Atajic – McGregor
Pukki

He's also gave game time to Fasan, Kayal, Baldé + McIlduff off the bench - I might have missed a player or two out?

It's a breath of fresh air to see some change in the team, but I'll reserve judgement until the real games start - last time we had a good start to pre-season was Tony Mowbray!
