We may have a crisis in January. Dedryck could move on and Benkovic has a recall clause in his contract. Let's hope no Leicester centre backs get injured.

Ralston, Compper, Ajer, Simunovic, Tierney, Hendry, Izagguire, Gamboa, Lustig,

Also Reserve Squad Defenders x9.

Defensive Midfielders:
Broony, Kouassi, Bitton, Mulumbu.

Plus we can buy a Defender. Plus we can bring in Loanees.

Crisis? What crisis?

Grey, Commper? Are u serious?

09 Oct 2018 11:11:05
Hendry is a centre back and both Tierney and Bitton can play there as well. We shouldn’t dismiss Compper just because he hasn’t played. I suspect BR brought him in for cover and if so, he’s serving his purpose by being here. Next crisis please?

I bet you when Compper plays he will be immense😂😂.

Hendry is a what?

09 Oct 2018 19:09:26
GHB and COYBIG you pair make me laugh. If you think taking our best left back and putting him into centre back is a good idea then you’re off your rocker. Losing our 2 best defenders would be a crisis. U expect us to do well after that? We need to be realistic here.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Oct 2018 19:55:55
I watched Hendry against Aberdeen and he was excellent. Stevie May is a very physical opponent and will give any defence problems but Hendry coped with him very well. I don’t understand why so many Celtic fans are eager to slag off our defenders when we’ve conceded less goals than any other team in the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Oct 2018 20:23:43
First of all Ken, we haven’t lost them. You’ve created a scenario where we might lose them. Secondly, if we did we would still have a number of very good options as we have both just outlined. It probably hasn’t occurred to you but we won back to back trebles without Benkovic and that wasn’t a crisis, was it? If we sold all our players and didn’t buy any new ones, that would be a crisis. If we lost our manager and put you in charge, that would be a crisis. We can all create ‘what if’ situations and call them crises but until any of them happen, it’s just fantasy nonsense.

Henry is only young, is not long ago Boyata was a bombscare, now he is a stand out, don't be so quick to jump on Henry's back, give the guy a chance.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Oct 2018 23:13:29
Exactly. My post was a what if. The key word was “could”. The players we have aren’t good enough to replace what we would lose in that situation COYBIG. That’s my opinion, yours differs. Its clear we are good at the back. We’ve conceded the least goals and because of who? Boyata. He has been hard as nails and would be sorely missed in this current squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Oct 2018 22:10:19
I agree that Boyata is our best defender but Celtic have lost 4 goals this season, two when Boyata has been playing and two when he hasn’t been playing so there’s no justification for saying that he’s the reason we’ve conceded the fewest goals. Benkovic has only played one game, against St Johnstone. So whilst I wouldn’t want to lose either of them, we could lose both and it would still, by no stretch of the imagination, be a crisis.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Benkovic played against St Mirren and Rosenborg as well and we kept clean sheets in both of those matches.}

10 Oct 2018 22:43:52
Sorry Ed, I stand corrected regarding St Mirren. I was only concentration on league games so I’m not sure how the numbers work out if you include the league cup and Europe. I still stand by my comment that even losing both of them would not constitute a crisis.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - At least one would need replaced with quality to play with Ajer imo.}

10 Oct 2018 23:17:00
Yes, I agree with that as well, but it’s the Dailly record style hysteria that I take issue with. If we lost both and didn’t replace them I still think we’d win the league and possibly one or both of the cups. We’d find it more difficult in Europe, if in fact we’re still in Europe by Jan. To be honest, I think Europe will be a real struggle anyway as it’s weighted more and more against us every year.

Its sad that you feel the need to leave OMC, but i have to say, it would be one boring forum if we all came on full of the joys and we all agreed every player needs an arm around them. that's not reality mate, unfortunately. Debate is good, disagreements are productive and other peoples views are genuinely interesting.

don't take it too personally, that's the key here. I frequent the sevco site to wind them up, they know that, i know that and its all just a laugh, banter. But the educated views on football are a good read, on this and their pages. Maybe u just need a break from social media full stop. Whatever you do, i wish you well, take care old fella 👍.

Looking forward now, our next game is Saturday 20th October at Paradise when we host Neil Lennon's Hibs.

Neil will be gunning for a victory for sure.

Celtic and Hibs are both recent 6-0 winners and the most attacking teams in Scottish football. This could be one of the best games of the year.

However, with a large tranche of celtic players returning from higher level football, all solid defenders fit and a 50,000 support I predict a resounding 4-0 to the Tic.

With tempestuous Neil Lennon sent to the stands.

If Hearts get thumped again, we go top.

Hail Hail.

Stop dampening the mood Welshy, Hibs are a £10.65m Squad. Celtic are an £80m force with momentum and at home. All we need to work out is how to outsmart Effe Ambrose and it’s in the net.

Love your optimism Grey Heid and I hope you’re right. I think it’ll be closer than that though. The 2-2 draw at CP Park last year was one of the best games I’ve been to in the last couple of years and the one at Easter Road looked just as good on the telly. I’d happily take more of the same as I do think we’ll be strong enough to see them all off in the end of what promises to be an exciting season.

I know we were linked with Filip for ages and he’s with us now for the season. I think we look so much better with him in there beside Boyata . I’d love us to put a bid in for him come January as hopefully when we strengthen in jan and push away from the others to win the league, we will potentially be looking for two new centre backs for the start of next season ( benkovic going back and Boyata leaving with contract running down) . We all know Hendry isn’t the answer as a bit like when effe was here, every mistake he makes is costing goals.

Just a few points from yesterday that I took from game and this season so far would like to hear others opinions
1. Broony- now i like brown always have but maybe this year we need to start managing his game time a bit more. I feel this year brown has been looking bit more leggy and also is playing far deeper and slowing the pace down as he has almost been like an extra def dropping so deep for the ball to then pass it 5 yards sideways. I thought yesterday with calmac and ntcham in front of the defence our midfield were 20yards further up the park so when they received the ball and turned we had far more attacking options as we were already further upfield. Now i am not saying drop him all the time but surely against the lesser teams (no disrespect ) ie hamilton or st mirren we could afford to rest brown and try this different approach tht we had yesterday.
2. Benkovic- I personally feel we look so much more confident and assured with benko in place of hendry. He seems quite quick and gd turn of pace and also looks strong as well. I also liked his range of passing in his few appearances and i know he's just played a couple of games but feel he could be quite important for us .
3.Corners- This has been annoying me for a while now but how poor are we on set pieces in general. I don't realky know how much practise we do but surely we need to mix up our set plays more try more short corners or try different variations from them as we must have one of the worst records of scoring from corners in the league from the amount we get .
Hopefully now we can kick on from yesterday (timing of the international break is terrible) as tht performance will surely lift confidence and that we will start playing with tht pace and power that we have lacked for a while now.

Dezbhoy

Spot on with Broony slows play down to much. He brings so much in way of leadership so will be back in first team straight away.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Oct 2018 17:36:19
Agree with most of that dezbhoy. The Brown scenario is a difficult one with him being club captain, but I totally agree over the past year we have adopted this sideways ultra slow build up to our play and Broony to me is the biggest culprit by picking the ball up deep and playing it sideways. There are certain games I wouldn't be without Broony mainly away games against the sheep Hibs Hertz and the Sevies. By not playing Broony every week it might benefit him in the long run as he's no getting any younger. Agree about Benkovic he looks a very good player pity he wasn't ours. Set plays not much to be said there apart from abysmal.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Oct 2018 17:50:17
Dez I think it's something like 3 out of 100. I would agree we need to mix it up but benkovic looks like he'll score a few off corners.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Oct 2018 19:18:51
Said this at weekend to one of the lads broony as much as I love him tends to play more as a 3rd centre half (can’t blame him way defence has been) meaning play drops back too deep and becomes more about controlled possession rather than conviction. Without him on Sunday the emphasis was on pass and move which was great to watch.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Oct 2018 17:32:05
We should have had Benkovic signed the year before when his fee went sky high! We were definetley interested. Boyata needs a new contract or he will be gone for nothing in January. Any talk going round about Boyatas contracts situation?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Oct 2018 11:48:00
U must be joking ken there's no chance boyata will sign on, do u think it's a coincidence that he's playing so well in the lead up to the window when he can sign a pre contract.

Right so the manager wants to trim the squad again.
So I was thinking who's likely to go.
I came up with this list and something sticks out like a sore thumb.

Allen
Christie
Compper ( though could sit on his tidy wage)
Gamboa
De vies
Benyu
Kouassi (On loan)
Hayes

All but 2 of they players have been signed while Rogers has been the manager.
It's not just the board that need to up their game in january.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

08 Oct 2018 11:30:49
Would add sumo to that but get a replacement first.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Oct 2018 11:32:38
I think Kouassi still has a chance from what Rodgers was saying the other day. Perhaps Christie too but I can’t see it.

However most of those players will struggle to get the same wage elsewhere now.

Some of Rodgers signings at Liverpool were woeful as well although I don’t think he had full control over them. It’s clear he needs to focus on coaching the team and take a step back from the recruitment side.

Massive improvement yesterday none the less.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Oct 2018 11:38:09
Kev / ed. who is to blame? Is it a committee. Or does rodgers get told who's coming in or has he the final say?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Oct 2018 14:07:28
DRP seems he's heavily involved in it by all accounts and Lee Congerton was definitely brought in on Rogers say so.

Eboue is still in our plans. He will come round eventually in my honest opinion. To quick to judge this early I think.
