This transfer window has given me a bit of a reality check about where we are as a club and the necessity of our transfer strategy.

I'll hold my hands up and admit that when we sold Dembele for £19.7m on the last day of the transfer window I was expecting us to push the boat out this month and sign a striker of quality and reputation whilst dishing out a decent fee. And again I'll admit feeling underwhelmed when I heard our targets were Weah and Bayo.

However looking at the transfer window as a whole and seeing a player like Dominic Solanke, who has 1 senior goal in the EPL move for £19m makes me realise we have no option than to look for players like Bayo, develop them into top class players and sell them on for big money. And there may be occasions when we do pay a large fee for a player i. e Castagne for £6m for example.

I have decided to embrace this policy and look forward to seeing Burke, Weah and Bayo in action and whoever else come in between now and the end of the window. Who knows just because there is no option to buy included in the loan doesn't mean we can't make an offer at the end of the season for Burke. I can't see Weah coming here permanently. Anyway looking forward to the rest of the season and hopefully another treble.

If Weah and Burke play well during 6 months, i wouldn't be surprised if loans were extended like what happened with Patrick Roberts.

PSG and West Brom obviously rate them highly by their actions of extending Weah contract and West Brom paying £15m for Burke. With this in mind i believe we have loaned 2 good players.

Looking at bigger picture players we have developed over years i can see big clubs in future loaning us top class prospects that will give us a boost cause of the success rate.

08 Jan 2019 22:21:10
I'd be happy for both loans to be extended. I just wonder if Weah has been brought in to cover Griff.

Read a report today suggesting Rodgers wants to utilise Weah through the middle and put Edouard on the Left Wing. I know French Eddie is class at cutting inside at edge of the box but other than that I don’t think he offers natural width or has a particular strength in crossing the ball. Then we have a young natural wide player who has started only a handful of senior games asked to come to a foreign country and play in a position alien to him.
After Mcgregor at full back shambles in old firm and now trying to play 2 players out of their natural position I’m less confident in Rodgers than I have been in the past.
His signings record is poor I hope he has got these 1s correct for our sake.
More importantly we NEED a CM, RB, back up LB and at least 1 CB and seem to only be linked with Attacking players and 1 RB who wants to play in Spain or Germany I think so where’s our next target? Surely we should have had at least 5 options on standby at RB as soon as window opened it’s so obvious we need help in there and teams know it and target that area of our team.

Ice man did the fact we had to pay 9 million for edouard not ram that fact for you.
He had only around 16 or 17 top flight games and 1 goal before his loan to us
He then scored 11 for us.

So a player with under 50 top team games and 12 goals cost 9 million
That's what we are up against. We need to go looking for gems like van djyk or use loop holes to grab players like dembele.
Will it always work? Naw
What we need to do is make sure enough of it works to keep us successful.

08 Jan 2019 23:06:36
Kev83 I guess I still thought we may be able to bring in a decent level of player with a good reputation bit like I say seeing what's going on with to be quite frank average players going for tens of millions of pounds put things completely into perspective.

Our scouting system needs to be spot on and we need to take advantage of certain markets as well as continuing with our youth set up. Nothing makes me prouder than seeing KT, Calmac, Forrest and Mikey Johnston coming through the ranks. Here's to the future 🍀.

GGGG unless you heard Rodgers say it himself I wouldn't pay any attention to it.

09 Jan 2019 00:28:06
Edouards still young and he has done well so far this season.

I do think though he works better with someone up front. Last season him and dembele were dynamite up front.

09 Jan 2019 08:32:20
We aren't going to push the boat out and sign another multi million pound striker when we paid £9m for Eddy, he is our No 1 striker but BR just doesn't want him playing so much.
Now on the other hand we still have 3 weeks of the window left and I do see them making a splash to get possible 3 or 4 more players in to bolster our defence, I also see Hayes, Allen, Compper and Boyata all moving on.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 19:51:42
Do you think we will get any players for the Defence this window?

I'd rather win 7-6 than 1-0.😘.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jan 2019 00:20:36
7-6 win is great as a spectacle, but no fan would accept such a leaky defence against them, Killie and Dundee etc and no manager would let that happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Jan 2019 20:11:18
Can't see 2 CB being signed we have Jozo, Benko, Ajer and Boyata. Compper will be gone and Hendry loaned out. If we sell Boyata we will replace him. Squads way too bloated as it is. RB is bloated as well as CM/ CDM and out wide. Much rather we concentrate on getting rid of the deadwood first and getting the few quality signings we need right rather than panic buying.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 19:48:24
Very optimistic about our transfer activity so far - and being so busy this early in the window, really isn't like us and shows our intent with 3 weeks + to go.
So still plenty time to sort out the defense (although not heard anything about a new goalie lol) .
The wage bill has been a hot topic and we will obviously look to ship some players one way or another?

De Vries
Gamboa Hendry Compper Izzaguire
Hayes Eboue Bitton Mulumbu Allen
Aitchieson

subs: Hazard, Benyu, Miller, Arzani, Bitton;

There's a full team that can't get a game and there's others like Johnston, Morgan, Ralston and Simunovic who are on the fringe.

Leaving:- Gordon, Bain;
Lustig Boyata, Ajer, Benkovic, KT;
Forrest, Weah, Rogic, McGregor, Broony, Christie, Sinclair, Bayo, Ntcham, Oddsoaks. (Griff) , Burke.

Sorry if I've missed anyone?
That's a hell of a squad though.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

08 Jan 2019 19:59:38
Think Ralston will be in main squad rather than on fringes now OAB.

I'd still keep Kouassi myself like, I think there is a player in there.

I think Button will be ket also for his versatility, I'd also send Morgan and Hendry on Loan.

Offload Boyata now and replace straight away with someone like Kalas or Brumma

Sack the rest for me 💚🍀.

We should loan them out to SPFL teams then they can play against all our rivals but be ineligible against us.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 19:35:29
I am gald that we have brought in 3 new faces and hopefully more to follow. If these are BRs first choice selections then good and well.
I have no problem with loans as long as we get a good loan term or option to buy. There is always the lingering question of BRs buying record if this does not work out.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

08 Jan 2019 22:40:36
My main concern is that both loan signings are only for 6 months we normally request 18 months or at least 12. If they do well we are just developing other teams players with no option to buy.
Hopefully if they do well we can get further extension on loan deal but just seems unlike us.

Celtic confirm signing of BAYO, on sky news 👏 looks a good player HH.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

08 Jan 2019 19:02:57
Anyone think that Griff will be for the off?

Since that season under RD when he hit 40, for one reason or another ( personal issues, Injury ) he has never reached those heights since.

Don't get me wrong, I love Griff as much as the next man but I feel Brendan is losing faith in him and I won't be surprised to see him going at the end of the year.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

08 Jan 2019 21:44:29
Having seen the way British HR operate (and I have a theory that they've done a number on society generally which I'll spare you from) I fear that Griff's best option, even in a best case scenario, might be pastures new. I hope I'm wrong, and BR inspired confidence when he spoke on the issue directly, I suspect that he will be seen as a liability and effectively discriminated against because of whatever may be going on with him.

For the record, I think Griff is a a (nearly) world class striker in the role he has carved out for himself, and would hope that we wouldn't be so small minded as to cut our losses. I wish I had more confidence that this time-out was genuinely for the player's good. It certainly has been sold to us--and to the management and other player--as such.

But this is a rant. He'll be back, and stronger.

08 Jan 2019 21:54:05

I for the life of me can understand why they believed that after that shambolic display by a so called Referee and the release of no action by the SFA that they thought that nothing more would be said IF SOME morons did threaten him they deserve to be punished by the law but that excuse for a referee should not ref another professional game again AND A Full investigation into why some players can get retrospective punishment even after the Ref claims to have seen it but other players they can't touch OR perhaps won't touch.

McKenna!
Surely to god there are other options a lot better for what we would need to pay for him.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 15:10:11
McKenna is a cart horse. He is shocking. Another collin Hendry.
We need better than any CB that's plying their trade in our league at the moment because all the best ones at park head right now.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 15:13:55
Not sure why we would look at SPL for players - other than price. We have done very well in the past picking up a decent standard of defender in Scandinavia and Europe and there must be better options out there, if our 'scouts' earned their salt?

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 15:18:33
Porteous has stuck out in a couple of the Hibs games this season, and based on what I've seen if we're buying another defender from this league, I'd rather we stuck in a bid for him than McKenna.

Don't doubt we could do something with McKenna, but I don't see a £7m defender there - what kind of wages would he be on with that fee?

I know he's a bit of a one off but Van Dijk was only £2.5m, must be other options out there we can develop.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 15:39:40
Wouldn't touch McKenna with a sh. t. y stick. There's got to be better out there.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Jan 2019 16:25:38
We shouldn't be signing players from our league as we regularly beat domestic teams with ease that had these player's. For example Hendry, Hayes, Mulumbu, Morgan, Alan all looked the part but when they pull on the hoops they flatter to deceive. Christie is about the only player who has shown his worth. Our Defence needs a complete overhaul this window and the next. Commper hopefully leaves. Hendry loaned out. Boyata will be away at some point. Benkovic away in the summer. Lustig and Izzy are past their best.

Happy new year Bhoys and Ghirls. Been reading over the last few weeks, and watching all the media and "not so" social media comments. So verdict on the "old firm" we were due at some point a loss, maybe an eye opener? However, again I can accept them playing there best us playing poorly and a few dubious referee decisions and only a 1-0 loss. I know they had a few chances but the point is they couldn't take them. It says a lot that that's the best they are going to do.

On another note transfers, I like most Celtic fans agree we need a new RB for CL qualifiers and we would ideally have another CB brought in before then. I think the two loans are fantastic players two very highly regarded young prospects, pacey, skillfull and creating players. It might give us another option to mix a top 4 of: Burke, Forrest, Sinclair, Rogic, Christie, Edouard, Johnstone, Weah, Bayo (*) and Griffiths (when returns) . I think the fire power has got stronger. Weah, Burke can push Sinclair and Edouard could be considered either out left or behind Bayo. It is clear that we have strengthened as an attacking force. Now just to tidy up the defence. My only concern is the 6 month loans, these players aren't bedded for the CL qualifiers and you do have to wonder is BR moving on? or is this just plugging the hole?

Can anyone elighten me to the media hype across the city. They are now "favourites to win the league". They've signed Davis, who Armstrong has replaced, he wasn't even a consistant first team player for us last year. His legs are gone whilst we bring in young, vibrant pace and skill. Secondaly the hype of Defoe, a 36 year old has been. Scoring record has been poor for last few years but he has been telling tales of what makes a prolific goalscorer. Even more how degrading to the Scottish game he and they think he is going to be the superstar. This isn't Ibrahimovic, Rooney or C. Ronaldo - all over the age of 30 - its Defoe who has won a GRAND 1 TROPHY throughout his entire career. let's get real they have a better player in Morelos. Unless there is a more youthful and better quality of player brought in this league title will be back at Paradise at the start of April.

Hail Hail.

Celtic rejected a bid for Ralston could that mean we don’t have a RB coming in now what do u think EDs?

I'd be glad to see Ralston get a run in the team.

Thought he wasn't the wasn't the worst when he played last season, and would like to see him get some more game time as the first choice RB til the end of the season.

Would rather see us reinforce the CB position with at least one new signing this window. Think if we get that it would be a decent window especially with players coming back in that weren't available in December.

I don't know much about Damien Duff the coach of underage footballers, but I have heard very good things about Damien Duff the man . As you know he had a long successful career in England playing for Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers and others . I think when he finished in England he played for a season in United States . He returned to Ireland and played for the last half of the season with a League of Ireland team, LOI season ends in Oct, he played for nothing, yes free.

He then got involved with Shamrock Rovers youngsters around 15-16 and coached them for no pay either for a time . His only regret was that he couldn't get them on the training pitch 5-6 days her week and their matches were too infrequent, about every 3 weeks.
Rovers felt he was great with the players and an unbelievable hard worker .
Hope we see and hear good things about him from Lennoxtown.
