I don't know if anyone has suggested this before but I think football should adopt the tennis appeal system in order to eliminate the refereeing howlers in the game! Incidents like the penalty on Sunday, Hearts penalty against us on the opening day and the Inverness goal line handball would be sorted out in seconds by the TV official. Even 1 appeal a game which would only be for major incidents! We all want the correct decisions to be reached! What do you all think?

Believable0 Unbelievable10

07 Feb 2017 22:41:00
I agree, but the problem with that is in tennis it's a straight in or out. Football decisions are different. What you think is a penalty others don't. What certain referees think differ from other too. It could cause even more controversy.

If you had £100 on a horse and it was left to one man to decide which horse was first past the post there would be hell on. Technology is available and with so much at stake these days it has to be used. This is the 21st Century, robots are driving round Mars via tv links, Robots are building cars, 3D printers make parts which people thought were long gone, Sensors and TV imaging is used in a variety of sports but in football, we still give ONE MAN the power to potentially - get a manager sacked, get a team relegated and/ also go financially bankrupt, (give an unfair advantage to other teams) , cost players their jobs (in addition to other financial implications like mortgages cars etc) and upset many supporters. ONE MAN - let's get real.

Works in rugby a treat TBH video ref.

Agree0 Disagree8

08 Feb 2017 01:16:34
Seems that football is one of the few major sports that won't use video technology I like the way they use it in baseball and depending on the match cricket where you have three challenges if the challenge is proved to be correct you keep your three but if your wrong you lose one of your three challenges and I know some will say it would slow down the game but that wouldn't be an issue for me just imagine Celtic v whoever for a place in the last sixteen of the champs league and we get denied a stone waller or we get a wrong decision in our own box I would like to be able to challenge the ref's decision.

Agree0 Disagree9

08 Feb 2017 01:31:59
football is the best sport in the world because stuff happens. Can you imagine never getting that sort of decision that leads to the stuff of dreams? Yes the Inverness situation was hard to bare but it is a pain I would be willing to take.

What if we got a dodgy decision against a Barcelona, real etc that gave us a win? Would you still feel the same. That being said I think like tennis the challenge must only be able to be initiated by the player most likely the captain. Only my opinion not that it means anything to those who decide.

TinyTim

What an amazing point you raise.

Let's take the power from ONE MAN who is accountable and give the decision to ONE MAN in a room (video ref) who is unknown and not accountable for a decision?

Clearly didn't think that through as the video ref could be Dallas or Madden and I wonder what decision they would make in the last minute of a Celtic Vs Sevco game and Miller falls in the box?

NiallH where did I say one man in a TV room? If we want to be open and transparent show the replay to all, and the decision. It works in Tennis and cricket so why should football be different. I am totally gobsmacked that people do not want technology put in which would go a long way to remove unfair/ wrong decisions which have the potential to cause damage as in my previous post. Are you honestly happy with (not just Celtic honest mistakes) some of the amazing decisions given in football? Every football show runs slow-mo replays which either support or condemn a controversial decision. Is it wrong to try and ensure the game is as honest as it can be?

we can say or come up with whatever we like, its up to FIFA/ UEFA and let's face it they really don't care about football matters, just financial ones.

there was 2 guys a few years ago came up with an infallible offside system

Linesman looks at forwards, when one is on an offside position he presses a button on his flag.

Someone in the stand presses a button when a ball is played forward.

Scenario 1: Ball played forward Stand guy presses button. Linesman hasn't pressed his button yet - its not offside.

Scenario 2: Ball played forward Stand guy presses button. Linesman HAS already pressed his button - its offside.

so simple, tech to do this has been around for years. nada!

Wondered about your opinion about the worst ref decision you ever saw since we have seen some howlers recently.

Mine is the Mottram 1 where I think Dundee Utd scored, hit the stansion came out and a Thistle player picked the ball up as he assumed a goal (obv) and gave it to his keeper and Mottram said play on lol. Couldn't make it up but its true and I sure many will remember it.

What's yours guys?

Incidentally did Mottram ever give his reasoning for this?

Must say guys I think big jozo has been absolutely fantastic for us this season :) been so impressed with the fella and to think we almost let him leave! . was worried though for a while he was going tp be another one of our "sick note" signings lol. the guy just oozes class, u don't even notice him when he's on the field, strolls games, but it's when he's off the field that we notice it most.

and to add to the bargain he also put in a brilliant block at Hampden against them, 2nd half with scores 0-0 with their first and only attempt late in the game. scary thought thinking he was in torino to sign but oh well, alls well that ends well! . fantastic waking up with a smile again due to our team and cannot wait for the next game! Just read that only Hamilton have played more players that came through their youth academy than celtic
7 players have featured for us this season from ours.
Hopefully this increases in years to come.
Would love to see a starting 11 one day that consists entirely of players from our own academy.

07 Feb 2017 14:58:18
This is a key point for me, if we can have more bhoys like KT that are with us to wear the shirt and no a springboard for more lucrative deals then we will have less fear of losing our players after couple of seasons, we must have young right sided players ready for a shot in the first team, anyone know if any right sided players are highly recommended in our youth set ups?

Agree2 Disagree3

07 Feb 2017 16:27:47
That's quite an impressive stat. Considering we have more of an access to the luxury of bringing talent in, the fact we are clearly still bringing it through is impressive. Hopefully in the near future one or two more can claim that spot on the team sheet like KT has.

Agree1 Disagree3

07 Feb 2017 22:08:11
And Hamilton will be doing it out of necessity as apposed to the talent being right which is what we are doing.

Not sure I buy into the players coming through the ranks being more loyal or committed than players brought in. Some of our greatest servants have been foreign signings and i still remember Liam miller jumping ship early doors for "bigger and better".
Loyalty and commitment are personality traits not guarantees with where you have come from.

See Mickey Johnston scored 4 for the development squad last night. If performances like that keep up surely he'll be in contention for a place in the first team squad? Even coming off the bench.

He had an outstanding season last year and scored an unbelievable amount of goals from midfield. Kinda gone quiet this season but hopefully that performance will give him confidence. Would love to see more Scottish youngsters from the academy make the breakthrough into the first team.

Right lads, we all know how proud we are as supporters and as a Club of our charitable ways but please take two minutes of your day to go on the Liverpool 'Other Posts' and read Ed001's post and please feel free to share it far and wide.
BTW we're not asking you for money or that unless you feel the need to donate, it's just just how a club the size of Liverpool treat their support.

That makes for uncomfortable reading. FSG should hang their heads in shame.

Please put up a link to the funding page (if it exists, if not it might be a good idea to start one if someone knows how? ) .

Mental health issues are reaching epidemic levels. It is reassuring that recent steps have been taken at Government level to address the shortfall in services, but it is only the first steps.

I have experience of illnesses such as depression through work and on a personal level, and would not wish it on my enemy. I have seen firsthand how it dismantles lives and families and it is heartbreaking.

Corporations such as FSG should be leading by example. Like others running our clubs they have shown as massive disconnect with the support. Worse still they have shown a lack of human decency and have put the bottom line before common values. For goodness sake we are talking about a football shirt or a ball! Something they could take from the club shop and ask the players to sign at training and cover the small postage fee.

Reading the comments you couldn't help but feel sorry for their brilliant supporter's who have dealt with so much in recent years. They are disgusted but should in no way feel "ashamed to be associated to the club" as their Ed stated. I can tell they are angry but this is in no way a reflection of them.

I wish the charities well in their endeavours.

{Ed001's Note - it is sickening mate. Added on top of them allowing the S*n back into Anfield, it is difficult times to follow Liverpool. The link to the donation page is here: justgiving page thank you if you do donate, but could you leave a message to say where you saw it as she wants to thank everyone. This is her first attempt to do anything like this and it is really helping her deal with her grief, I think, and thanking people is something she really wants to do.}

07 Feb 2017 12:19:49
read it, pretty shocking - they employ whole departments to deal with their charitable face - and what do these employees do - get paid to write refusal letters.

I have a mate to works for a charity - he emailed celtic and rangers. Only rangers replied. He wanted people inside with collecting tins.

Ibrox said come along - only stipulation is that you bring 20 people to make it worth your while.

So he asked me to go help and I obliged.

We met at 2.15 at matchday at door whatever, they took inside and gave us a quick H&S briefing. then we were put into position next the burger places etc.

I slag em to death - but to a man woman and child - everyone stopped and dropped some change into my bucket.

I also tried to do a Testicular Cancer Awareness thing at Celtic Park 3 years ago - still waiting for Jules Walsh to get back to me.

justgiving page

Remember nobody's under any obligation or pressure to donate and only give what you can afford.
And remember, if you're out there struggling, no matter how bad things feel or look to you there's people out there who care and can help you. The hardest thing is taking that first step and admit you need help, talk to your GP, talk to your brother, shit you can even message me if you need to get things off your chest and it will all be private. There's absolutely no shame in it and there is plenty of help out there.}

the sun allowed back into anfield ed001? that's a disgrace, there should be a fans boycott until they are shown the door again, along with with no one buying merchandise from the club shops.

{Ed001's Note - there is a march by Shun The S*n due to take place soon. That is only going to be the start of the problems if the powers that be at Liverpool do not start listening to the fans. There are so many simple little things they could do to get the fans onside, but they continue to belligerently butt heads against them. As has been shown time and time again, owners never win against the fans. They simply can't because without the fans they own nothing.}

i can't believe that they would ever let they sewer rats THE SCUM anywhere near anfield after what they had "IMPLIED" happened at hillsborough its a disgusting kick in the teeth to the poor already heartbroken families of the 96, maybe it will need to take something like kenny dalglish resigning his ambassador role to make FSG sit up and take notice of how disgusting this is, believe me ed001 fans protest groups do make a difference i was part of the celts for change movement in the 90s who removed the old inept board at celtic, if there's no fans in the ground or in the club shops they will soon get the message what the fans want, im proud of the part the celtic fans have always played in supporting justice for the 96 they will never walk alone.

{Ed001's Note - I am in full agreement with you mate. Thank you. I really hope FSG will get the message, but they seem to think they are being hard done to because they are foreign, rather than bothering to look at the actual issues. If they continue to just dismiss fan concerns the way they are, it is just going to get worse.}

All good these days lads but thanks for the sentiment. Back to the original post and comments.

I am shocked and appalled that Liverpool let The Sun back in to Anfield. That rag makes me sick. Whether it be Hillsborough, their "Irish Bastards", their call to hang the Birmingham Six, phone hacking or the many other scandals.

We had a family shop when I was a teenager and we stopped selling it. They are the lowest of the low. I would even check the date on the paper twice if I read it to make sure it was true.

Thank you for posting the link Ed. I will share it among my familyou, friends and colleagues and ask them to help.

Tim cheers for the message mate. I am actually going to be at Cheltenham this year but I will still check in and hopefully we can sort a few winners out.

Chelle asked me to thank you all and post this for her:

Hi Guys,
First of all I would like to thank each and everyone of you for all your kindness and support and the amazing donations. I personally can't thank you enough. My uncle was the foundation of our family and touched so many lives, some from the brink of suicide. I have had so many wonderful messages from people greatful for James coming into there lives when he did, we had no ideas just how many, he was a very humble man, I just wish there was many more of him about who would actually put others before themselves. I wanted to turn his passing into something positive by carrying on his legacy to help others, and without the kindness of people like YOU it wouldn't be possible. So from my heart to yours a very big THANKYOU. No one is ever alone so please reach out if you ever need the help and never feel ashamed
