I Could not really fault the team tonight just unfortunate

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Yes definitely, plenty of effort and no little ability

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to disagree. Thought Wakaso and especially Brown gave the ball away far too often

Agree0 Disagree1

Kev Bhoy. Who do you think we are, every team even Barcelona has players who give the ball away too easily .
Brown especially and Wakaso tackled bravely all over the park .
I thought it was a very good work man like performance in a game we could easily have won.

Agree0 Disagree1

@chris02, it's not a game we could have won it's a game that we have absolutely no excuses for losing. We played against possibly the weakest side in the EL. I just can't see where this "progress" that people are talking about is coming from? If it's progress since the Warsaw game then I agree but we want backwards by a mile compared with last season in that game and we are ar best on oar with last season now. No excuses for a result like that.

Agree0 Disagree0

We never lost we drew 1-1

@darzbhoy, you clearly did not get my meaning. It was a game we have no excuses for not winning. Maybe that makes it a little bit clearer for you?

Agree2 Disagree0

@Chris02 Are you saying that because Barcelona players give the ball away sometimes that somehow excuses Brown and Wakaso passing the ball straight to the other team all game? Baffling stuff

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't know of any team that can go through the season and not look back and remember games they should have won and didn't . I don't watch Astra very often, nor indeed many Europa League teams, so I don't know whether you are right in claiming they are one of the worse teams in the comp
Didn't they beat Lyons to qualify .
It's interesting that none of the six teams from England have got any more points in Europe than Celtic from the same number of games played .

Agree0 Disagree0

Well that game was a bit of a disappointment. We really need to start killing teams of when we go 1 up. Astra are about the worse side we have played this year yet we make them look better than they actually are. Rant Over.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It didn't blow me away but I didn't think we wee to far off a times. There were some good bits of football. Better finishing or more fluent attack and I think we could of broke them down. Its wildly apparen how much we miss JG in europe. Liked wakasso, few banger moments but always brave and gets stuck in. its a quality that I like to see more of in the team.not secure qualification but we are on our way still. It isn't in our nature to make things easy. Happy with an away point should of been 3 with the chalked off farce.

07 Nov 2014 06:44:52
That's now legia, maribor, salzburg and astra away we have been in the lead and and either lost it or drew. We need to improve in these away games and finish these teams off usualy a point away in europe i'm happy with but but these are all games we could have won even legia when we took the lead we were the better team till they equalised

Agree0 Disagree0

Not holding on to leads is very disappointed but surely it would be worse if we were falling behind in each game and struggling and sometimes failing to come back.

Personally a think mcgregor is way over rated, looking forward to Forrest coming back, think Wakaso is no showing anything worthwhile either, a good point though in terrible conditions

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Very disappointing tonight, I think Mc Gregor needs to be left out for a while now, his contribution is nil. Scepovic looks like another who can't play the lone striker role. However the thing that irks me most is Van Dyck, s attitude. I thought he was very poor and seems disinterested in his defensive duties, I don't know if he thinks he is too good for us but more performances like this and his chance of a move will become less and less, we really don't need an additional inside left RD should tell him to concentrate on being a centre half

Agree0 Disagree0

A totally agree with you m8, a don't see what mcgregor brings to the team, never involved enough! A wld try get a new right midfielder in jan,

Agree1 Disagree0

Virgil maybe is thinking he is too good for us . Played very well at times but also too slack . Is this a bad example for Denayer who can also play the same careless manner

Agree0 Disagree0

Only reason mcgregor is playing is cause of injuries. Although I don't rate forrest, he is better than mcgregor. Hopefully sign a RW in January along with CDM

That just about sums it up JJ, not much more to add really, (Also loved the very sharp post stating a Mist Opportunity by another Celtic fellah)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Nov 2014 20:32:36
Seems to be a lot of disappointment tonight though I thought it a decent performance in a banana skin of a game and forget about there being minnows in Europe as we've got a lot of improving to do ourselves hey but we're sitting in a good position to qualify and can still top group by winning our remaining games so all to play for yet with Forrest ready to come back soon he will make a difference in attack also guidetti will be champing at the bit to play in Europe if we qualify so plenty to look forward to

Believable1 Unbelievable0

06 Nov 2014 20:24:29
talk about a mist opportunity :)

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Well played sir

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Some cracking strikes here, too quick to really absorb, but an uplifting montage. Maybe Guidetti could put in a few like these but there's few others in our current crop. (minding the decades this conflates)

What's peoples views on the disallowed goal then?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Always a goal; well taken by Griffiths. He did well to get away from the challenge

Agree1 Disagree0

Harsh, I thought the defender stimulated that Griffith's was taking him out by making a back for him . I thought there was little or no contact .

Agree0 Disagree0

Story of the night really they went down to minimal contact all game thought they was going to con a penalty

Very disappointing and at times we were literally second best in possession and tempo for spells in the game against the apparent minnows of the group.
I was never confident at 1-0 as there was something lacking tonight, especially as we had a couple of invisible men - lost in the fog - in McGregor and Scepovic and Wakaso was also fairly ineffective.
We very rarely keep clean sheets away in Europe any time so a second goal was imperative and we did not have the class or composure to win the tie/qualify.
I realise we are improving domestically and are second in the Europa group with 2 games to play, but Celtic are a team I was brought up enjoying watching and this team is too much like hard work and rely too much on their goalkeeper for my liking.
Guidetti makes a big difference up front, but we still need more attacking quality than we have at present

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Jungle Jim I think you are a little harsh
We know that Deila is trying to rebuild the team in terms of formation, method and style . It is evident that he is getting there. I don't think anyone could be questioned for lack of effort and we also showed no lack of skill . Mulgrew had a marvellous effort saved by the help of the post and only a super save prevented Griffiths plus a real tight decision by the referee.
Their goal was superb, many great strikers couldn't score from the angle he had and he gave Gordan no chance .

We are a lot different than we were a month or so. Deila will get us there .

Agree0 Disagree0

The levelling goal was top drawer. Would've went in regardless of the opposition.

We really do nee to figure out how to capitalise on a lead tho: this has happened too much recently. Lack of creativity, and the final ball, and all that.

Too many passengers tonite. Thought Griffiths and Mulgrew both did well tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Nov 2014 22:19:36
@chris02 can't see how you can say we are getting there? We might be improving compared to the leiega Warsaw game but not improving as against last season. At best we are the same as last season. Ronnie took us backwards. We must beat teams like this in Europe. We can't expect to progress unless we win these games. Maribor all over again. I feel we are going to struggle to qualify and if we do it will be in second place so a difficult last 16 game?

Agree0 Disagree1

Johnny the team may have went backwards but I don't think Deila took them back . There is no point getting a new manager just to repeat what was going on before he came . Ronnie is trying to impose his brand and formation and is getting there. Sure weren't Maribor unlucky against Chelsea, so maybe we didn't do so bad against Maribor at all. Patience we are at the start of a new beginning, not at the end of an average term of football.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Nov 2014 09:08:44
@chris02, understand your point about Maribor but I don't think you can look at 1 game. They only have 2 points in the league out of a possible 12. By the way I don't think we would have done any better. Yes new formation and it takes time, but we have played over 20 games this season already. Scepovic can't play the loan striker, so why persist with a system when he does not have players who can play that that system effectively enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Nov 2014 19:10:46
Johnny , Deila is our manager , he is now stringing together a reasonable run of results and whether we back him or not , we are going to have him for sometime . Scepatovic could have scored twice last night and today he and Deila would have been heroes . Deila makes decisions before games and we can judge them using hind sight . Our task is easier .

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Nov 2014 18:24:25
Chris hindsight is easier. But it's not hindsight when you keep making the same choice and everyone knows that the choice does not work. Scepovic does not look as adept as a loan striker as Griffiths does. I think Scepovic could do ok as a partnership with another striker but as Ronnie does not like the 2 upfront we may never know. So I'd Scepo can't play that position why keep playing him. That's not hindsight. you know his goal record is only marginally better at this stage than Pukki and he was never played as a striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Nov 2014 20:03:36
Celtic are so poor . How come every
Other team in the group score a handful of goals against Astra but we can't?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

06 Nov 2014 21:25:57
Salzburg beat them 2-1 hardly a handful.killy.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Nov 2014 20:02:54
Disappointed not to have qualified tonight, thought we were poor on the second half and I think Virgil and denayer are too casual most of the time. 8 points in the group so far, would have taken that at start of the group. Hopefully we get what's needed in the last two games to go through

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I hope we've not give D Zagreb a glimmer of hope! Going to be two tough matches me thinks.

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Nov 2014 19:02:07
Not a great deal to talk about but in a game where we could have let nerves get the better of us we've dominated and came through the first half. Think our quality will start to shine through second half.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You think we're making progress then you get a performance like that against a team of cluggers. Our passing was woeful at times.

Agree0 Disagree2

Shows what I know. Same thoughts as most on here we should have killed the game. Looks like in typical fashion we're going to leave it all down to the final game now!

Agree0 Disagree0

Is the game still on anyone? Markie

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Latest reports are saying it's on, Markie. A joint UEFA/police announcement is expected any minute.}

Nice one! Thanks Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's not looking so good now mate, sorry. The UEFA match delegate is willing to give it another 15 minutes but as things stand game is off and will go ahead tomorrow 11 a.m. our time.}

06 Nov 2014 16:14:49
Home from work, beers in fridge and daughter's on standby to phone for the pizza when the chippy opens only to see the game might not go ahead ;(

Hey Ed, was wondering if we paired with Man City later in Europa League I take it both JG & Denyar would be ineligable for definate? I know there as been cases in the past, for instance Courtouis playing against Chelsea where Uefa have made an exception

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - What about Bangura playing against us, Tompo? FIFA regs. on the status and transfer of players consider a loan to be a transfer, there are no regs regarding players not playing against their parent club whilst on loan to another club.
If any player is registered on the player list of CFC then he can play against any team that we are drawn against. Any agreement between two clubs that X player can't play against his parent club is exclusively between the clubs. FIFA/UEFA would'nt have any involvement in any such agreement and it would be neither endorsed or enforceable by FIFA/UEFA.}

Once again you are right Ed, no reflection on Tompo88, but on various forums last season it was explained that Celtic couldn't have a deal that the loaned out Bangura couldn't play against us, several fans wanted to use the fact he did, as a stick to get at P.L.

Agree0 Disagree0

Completly forgot about that nonsense last season Ed good point!. Suppose if Man City were not happy with it we would probably bow down due to the new partnership between the two, or as you mentioned on a while ago between Man City liking Deila's football thinking

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, what's your thoughts on Virgil moving in Jan? With Europa and playing the shame, will PL sell him and look to strengthen the squad with the cash or hold on to him and look for more loan deals plus of course getting a permanent deal done for Guiddeti? It's a high risk strategy selling VVD and thinking the current squad can deliver.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I'd say it'lll be more likely he'll move in the summer than January.}

Virgil is too complacent to cause us real problems if he decides to leave . He is Dutch and sometimes the Dutch can be awkward .
