Some fans unrealistic if a player is being sold in excess of £10+m. You got to assume the salary be in region of £45-85k a week. That's an additional 2.5m every year! Celtic can't let themselves go down that road of failed English premiership players. Development and nurturing of young talented players. We all have to live within our means.

Celtic can afford to sign a big layer like Shaqiri, they keep telling us we can

He is exactly the type of player who can break down defences especially in Europe and that’s what we need

Obviously the fee is his relegation clause otherwise we would be miles away from what he could command.

Jeb we could never match his salary he's prob on about 100k a week.

It's always the wages guys. We will never be able to compete at the middle to top of any bidding war. Sad but true. Show some patience, i really think we might have the nucleus of a young but pretty experienced team.

Kev just because we can sign these so called big players does not make it the right thing to do we are where we are because we are not just throwing money at so called class players and think of the extra incentives these players will want to come to scottis h football for me it's just a bone starter of I'm honest I would love to have household names in our team but it's not going to happen and it sounds like your taking st pick from hun
people you know about how your team never spends to compete in Europe we have a structure that is taking us forward like never before we all want the best but we need to be realistic hh.

I like the way the dressing room is at the moment. You can see the togetherness amongst the squad at goals, training photos etc etc. I don't think bringing in a player who will want £100,000+ a week will be good for it no matter how good they are. If we can find a Ntcham or an Edouard every summer i will be more than happy.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jun 2018 13:35:42
Signing a player for that big a fee and on big wages might be possible financially but what impact would it have on the rest of the squad? The likes of Brown, Dembele, Tierney etc would want a similar wage. It would have a negative effect on squad dynamic. He’s a good player but hardly at Larsson’s level where the rest of the squad would have accepted that he deserved to be the highest earner.

There are plenty of players in the EPL who are earning £30,000 per week or less . The problem is that most of them would not be players we would want at Celtic Pk . It really is like the eye of the window between signing a player who can do a very good job for us, and a player who would spend season sitting on bench or worse still in the stands .

If Shaqiri is going for 12 mill, break our record and go for him.

I know this might be a risk but with Aston Villa in deep sevco do do a cheeky bid for Jack Grealish might be BR answer to a number 10.
He is like Masonnda but with more experience a bit of a nasty side and can get stuck in. Yes he has a troubled past but so did LG and don't forget Jinky was no angel. He is a good age with lots of skill.

Jack Grealish would be a great signing but it’ll never happen,
he’s got his sights set on the EPL and his England career.

Now that Champions Leauge money has doubled this means that we must spend and push to get to those group stages once again. The benefit being that the club will gain substantial profits and the gap will again grow between us and sevco. Let's see them left for dead this time.

Am i right in saying for qualifying it was a guaranteed £20m. The rest were add ons from tv and gates. So now it will be an extra £20m a year?

That could make a huge difference to all our plans on and off the pitch. PL said at AGM new South Stand would cost £30m. Qualify this season and next job done.

This news might even change our transfer budget for this summer.

If we're going to gloat about being on the lucrative side of a growing financial gap, let's not complain about the financial disparity if we get humped again off a bigger side.

I am confident we will qualify, but, too many battle scars to ever get over confident. We need to buy defenders and a couple more, which I think we will. If we don't my confidence dissolves into angst. :)

He’s playing a blinder motivating us.

An absolute blinder.

@ Old Man Chris

Chris I could not care less about the 100 loans you are talking about. We are discussing the successful ones from current squad - Ajer, Christie and McGregor. As i have said below I am happy to go with what Ajer himself has said about his loan at Kilmarnock, and what Brendan said. Performances alone show it was a success but you go on believing your own opinion over Ajer and BR. You have a distorted view on loan deals and now you are trying to convince yourself you are correct by saying Ajer said it was a success so he doesn't get his window smashed in by Killie fans. Seriously wisen up that is complete garbage. You have an opinion which you are entitled to but this opinion that loans do not work and that players are better not playing in the SPL they are better sitting in the stand at CP but being trained all week by our coaches is quite frankly ridiculous. Ajers loan was a success and the quicker you get over you clear hatred of an ex Sevco player you might have a different opinion on the matter. I have not spoken to one Celtic fan who has said Ajers loan was not a success, but then again i have never comes across a Celtic fan who believes their opinion is the only opinion that matters. You are wrong about Ajers loan, and Christies. Infact you will probably hope Christie gets sold or has a crap season ahead just to say i told you so. Well i hope he has a great season ahead to shut you up and your nonsense view on loans and our players you seem to think are not in Rodgers plans. Thee end.

BR spoke of how well he was treated and COACHED by Killie, he even has had elbows at Lennoxtown a few times. Anyone who does not see a huge improvement in Ajer must be blind. He's learned to defend at Killie, no we polish him. Christie, who should hit the ground running, will be the same. Hit and miss the loaning players but, Ajer and Cal mac have worked well. Thank you Ronny, a bit of an unsung hero i think.

Old Chris seems to think he knows the mind if Rogers. I don’t know if he ever played football, but to suggest that playing every week somehow hinders development is beyond belief. But we all know Chris knows best in all things Celtic :)

No brainer. Send a player out on loan in the same league the team are playing in or leave him stewing in the stand week to week yet asking him to bust a gut training. Examples were Christie, Allan and Ralston out on loan to The team who came second, a close fourth and a Championship team involved in playoffs. Great experience for the lads and gave them all a sense of importance to their respective teams. As with Ajer, it makes them hungry to come back and fight for a spot in the Celtic squad. It's all up to them now. Ajer benefited hugely by going to Kilmarnock who gave him an automatic start which rated him as one of their best players last season.
That's why the big teams loan the kids out.

Chris when you read this is it is not a personal attack because we had a disagreement a few weeks back over me saying it was a scientific fact Paddy is a better player than Forrest. You are too old to get the 'Anchorman' pun 😆 I'm hoping a day will arrive when i can post that i totally agree with you. This is just my opinion on loans and it is clearly very different to yours. As i said don't take it as a personal attack this page is all about opinions. I will agree with someone today and more often than not disagree with them the following day and i wouldn't have it any other way.
