loving life as a Celtic man at the moment. The club really has been rejuvenated this season and we could go from strength to strength now if we so desired. I just worry that some players ( not all) will be worried about the competitiveness of Scottish football. It's difficult for a manager to keep hold of his best players for 5 years and build a proper team. Just think of some of the class we have sold down south in the past 3 years. I hope Brendan Rodgers stays for at least 4-5 seasons as manager. I just like the way he conducts himself in interviews and is a cool and level headed character in front of the media. HHπŸ€πŸ€.

Yes, keeping players will be difficult, the only way would be regular champions league appearances, and money of course.

Just reading on the BBC that according to the six months up to the end of December, Celtic increased revenue by 94.7%, which is great. But it also said that in Dembele, de Vries, Sinclair and Gamboa, we spent Β£9.5 million on player recruitment - I thought Dembele was Β£500K, de vries Β£400K, Gamboa Β£1 million and Sinclair Β£4.5 million.
Does anyone know where the rest went or is this just pure nonsense?

Andy 1969 : the gap will also include wages πŸ’²πŸ’²πŸ’².

Thanks cprs1 - so would that just be wages from the start of the season up to the end of the year? I've never known it to be taken into consideration before when they compare the amounts spent/ received.

My guess would be agent and singing fees etc (including Toure) , Ed often highlights these as adding much more to overall costs of transfers.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - What is paid by the buying club would typically include:

(a) Transfer fee - the big number.
(b) Any levy applied by the local FA – 5% for the EPL.
(c) Tax due on the transfer fee – typically this will be VAT (at varying rates across Europe) some or all of which should be reclaimable.
(d) Agent fees – this may be to one or more agents.
(e) Tax due on the agent fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the agent bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(f) Intermediary fees – this may be to one or more sponging leeches(what do you mean you have a super agent?) .
(g) Tax due on the Intermediary fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the Intermediary bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(h) Signing on fee to the player (possibly including non-reclaimable VAT if the player is VAT registered).
(i) Legal fees.
(j) VAT on legal fees which is reclaimable.
(k) Moving/relocation costs for the player.
(l) VAT on moving/relocation costs which is reclaimable.
(m) Paying up insurance costs to the selling club (sometimes waived).
(n) Variables and tax on variables which may or may not be reclaimable) – these would typically include legal fees, moving/relocation costs, etc..}

Was thinking the same, I presume that it's signing on fees. However it wouldn't surprise me if Sinclair was around the 6m mark including signing on fees, but I would have imagined Celtic would have disclosed such a large figure to the fans to show that we are willing to spend.

With us getting Moussa on a development fee he must have been able to command a nice signing fee.

JB67-wee MoJo eh remembered fondly by feckn nobody. The Huns hated him and the Celtic Family have deleted him from our collective memory and history. Bertie and Billy et al may never have earned his cash-but what price do you put on being a legend? There will be no red, white and blue or green and white scarves thrown in front of MoJos funeral cortgege. πŸ€.

JB : Hi Mate, I was at Love St that day as well. The difference yesterday was that we played the ball all the way to CG and then started again. AT Love St we just passed our way up the park before slotting it away.

Great goal yesterday. easily Goal of the season unless the 6p man can conjure up some sort of magic. Na forget that lol

Not enjoyed a season as much for a long time and the confidence, will-to-win and style of play eminating from the manager -through the team is magnificent.
Even when a few of the team are off form, there are others who play out of their skins and others to come on and change a game. Previous sides would have dropped points yesterday and I acknowledge Thomson did do us a favour (choke) with the penalty - but when you have guys like KT, Broony and PR playing consistently well, young Henderson stepping in so effectively and match-winners like Dembele and Sinclair - things really do look very good right now - and we still have Rogic, Armstrong and the new signing Eboue to come in.
On the downside - if you can call it that - I hope LG sorts himself out with the manager and gets back in contention as he will not get a better chance in his career than this?

Don't know if we have any chance at all of signing Roberts but when the alternatives are GMS and Forrest, we really need to either convince him and his parent club - or look to Improve that area in the summer.
I also hope wee Christie is in BR's plans as I think he does have potential.

Good win yesterday. Dembeles 3rd goal was sublime! What a joy to watch a team gelling like ours does. First half was a bit huff puff against a very good team. I'm surprised St Johnstone are not further up the table than they are. Tommy Wright is doing wonders with that squad and they always try against us up in Perth. Eventually though, class outshone them. We would have beaten them even without Thompsons dodgy decision but hey, how many of these decisions have not gone our way so I'll take that. Dembele hasn't harmed his price tag after yesterdays performance, what a special player we have in him.
I would like to think BR has taken our defensive performance back to the training ground. Apart from that though, another great day to be a Tim!

Agree5 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - At least St Johnstone came out and had a go, I remember at one point there was 3 St Johnstone players chasing down our 2 CBs or 1 CB and Bitton.
And once again our wee diddy league game put the so called Best League in the World's offering to shame - that Leicester v Man Utd was utter garbage.}

06 Feb 2017 16:45:52
Can't disagree with any of that PT.

I would have wanted a wing forward type player in January. With BR saying PR will return to City, unless something changes, we'll need to sign two wing forwards in the summer. If PR had of been starting in the bigger games earlier in the season (which is one of my few, small criticisms) he might have found himself a place he wants to play at Celtic. He still might, and City might well turn round and tell him he's not part of their plans.

I agree about the Leicester V Man Ute match, it was dreadful, especially the first 20 minutes where neither team could even manage to keep the ball in play.
St Johnstone have managed to score a couple of goals against us the last 3 times we have went to Perth, so they seem to have as good a way of playing us as anyone else in the division, they also seem to do quite well in the matches against Aberdeen, so they are no mugs.
A couple of posters have said that they wouldn't mind losing our unbeaten run if it meant playing more youngsters in the team towards the end of the season, I don't agree with that.
Liverpool seemed to be doing okay up until the new year, then they put a lot of youngsters into the team against Plymouth in the FA cup, they only drew 0-0 and have hardly won a match since, all the momentum seems to have gone from them.
We may well lose a game before the end of the season, (if we do then hopefully it'll be a league match) but I want us to carry this winning mentality into next season, I think that youngsters should have to earn their place in the team regardless of what stage the season is at.

06 Feb 2017 18:18:55
does anyone else think its a bit strange that a known anti-celtic referee awarded us a penalty that never was the week before we play in a one off cup competition where we have encountered many strange decisions over the years? it could be we are being set up for more of these dodgy decisions with sundays dodgy decision being used for them to say "what do you mean dodgy decisions? look at the penalty you got against st johnstone"

You need another hit of that pipe jamesbhoy, the demons are playing with you πŸ˜ˆπŸ˜‰πŸ˜†. It's strange how "paranoia" can link up with reality sometimes though.

Agree1 Disagree11

06 Feb 2017 18:50:53
No jamesbhoy67, St. Johnstone should have had a penalty at Celtic Park last week as well, and for me, Partick Thistle should have had one they never got either round about Christmas time. We need to accept that times have moved on and referees are just awful rather than biased.

funny how no one at st johnstone remembers michael dubbery with both hands on the ball then rolling the ball along the ground inside the box and referee ian (bribes) brines standing watching it and still not giving a penalty, and clowns go on about paranoia, aye right.

Joe Garner and Dembelle on same goals scored total. Mind you it's taken Garner all season to score 3 and Mousa an appearance off the bench in the second half and he only cost less than a third of what Garner cost.

06 Feb 2017 16:51:10
Bit harsh JFP lol. He's had his moments (he coould continue to) but I've been clinging onto a hope Boyata will come good. If he can play to how I think he can, and find a level of concistency, we'll have a cracking CB on our hands.

Agree3 Disagree3

{Ed007's Note - I'm a bit of a Boyata fan as you know, JT and if he continues playing the way he is working hard and learning as Rodgers wants him to he could save us a few million in the transfer market. Rodgers always told him if he got fit and worked hard in training he would get a chance, even Toure is helping him out .
2 or 3 from Simunovic, Sviatchenko, Boyata, Lustig and Ajer when he comes back isn't too shabby imo. I'd like to see O'Connell get a new deal as well. People forget that Boyata was injured, he wasn't dropped and would have went to the Euros with Belgium if he hadn't been injured. If we do spend on another CB this summer I expect it will be someone with a bit of pedigree that will immediately improve the squad.
People want to fill our squad with CL players but that's never going to happen and players like Boyata, McGregor, Henderson and even GMS if he can bulk up and find form are all more than capable at the domestic level and we need players like that when we're playing the amount of games we do.}

06 Feb 2017 18:21:37
with the profits we posted today we can buy CL players.

Agree8 Disagree1

06 Feb 2017 18:06:45
It's not a bad dept. at all Ed. I'd personally push Lustig slightly out of that equation. As in, yes he's an option there, but unless another RB is signed, that's his main position, providing he can stay fit. We could always sign a first choice RB mind, that would change things. I'd then not take up the option on Kolo, and put his wage (plus Ambrose's) towards that pedigree walk into the side CB you're on about. I'd sign O'Connell up too, but look to loan Ajer out again tbh. I look forward to seeing Ajer eventually as a regular for us. But because he came with that next big thing reputation (I believe lots of big clubs were looking at him but RD stole a march) unless he's definitely playing regularly, loan him out. New CB, Erik, Jozo, Boyata, O'Connell.

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - It's a good position to be in and one of the best bits of business we done in the summer was keeping Simunovic.}

06 Feb 2017 20:53:47
Couldn't believe we even allowed simo to speak to anyone, he looked quality under Rd, got good game time n played through an injury as most know, out for a while but what I saw of him felt he was class with big Erik alongside him.

As for boyata as Ed said he was going with Belgium as if u look at his form at that time, he was actually playing well, though u couldn't tell due to all the Rd haters finding fault with everything n constantly berating him among others.

As Ed and JimTim have already said we are strong in that department n with the players on board with the 24 hour athlete thinking, which they should already have been the last 2 seasons.

we should see many improve or at least everything is there to improve them but it's up to them if they want to be the best or just stay as they are, right building blocks in place can only benefit the club as a whole now n in the future.
