Hasn't played for last 6 months so not really.

{Ed007's Note - Isn't it Ezequiel Ponce (isn't that a pimp?) that's the surprise injury?}

07 Aug 2018 10:06:37
Ezequiel cool name, with some cool hats. probably.

Ed here’s a question I didn’t expect to be asking this summer:

Do you think we’ll sign Paddy Roberts, and if so do you think it will be another loan or on a permanent deal?

Just heard Alex Rae on the radio saying that he heard last week from someone in football that we were going to sign him permanently. Clearly not the most reliable of sources but interesting nonetheless.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I'll be honest mate, I'm not sure. The guy that told me last summer to bide my time that he was coming back isn't sure what's happening this year, sorry.
Do you mean ex-Celtic Boys Club player Alex Rae? :)

06 Aug 2018 20:40:42
I didn’t know that! Maybe he’ll be bang on the money then!

It would be a no brainer to bring him back, especially permanently. Still only 21. Last season wasn’t the real him due to his injury issues.

Unfinished business.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 21:21:15
I can't see Paddy signing a permanent deal. Would be around, £10mill. So what is point of the Aussie, Morgan and all. Could see a loan for a season. Paddy may be quite shocked that no one is bashing down doors to sign him. His form last season was average. He was no where near, as many celtic players were to the season before. Loan ok but if we buy him for say 10mill i font think we will get that money back. Coming from the SPL, we never get near the real value for a player.

Agree0 Disagree1

07 Aug 2018 07:31:46
So 7 million for Armstrong in the Las year 8-12 million for boyata on his last year 13 million plus add on and sell on fee for van dijk I could go on is getting the right fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2018 09:33:20
Marco don't understand what those numbers are meant to tell me? No one in England is offering Paddy Roberts a contract. So you think if we buy him for £10mill and he plays in the SPL for a season an EPL team is going to offer us a profit on him next season and we would have invested £10mill in him. No chance.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 18:39:17
Hi Ed, media saying we only want 3 signings which I would presume to be Mcginn, Arzani and a RB. What's your thoughts? No Roberts, no CB, no cover for KT.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I don't think we'll bring in a CB unless someone leaves.}

06 Aug 2018 19:52:01
You think we'll only make the 3? With the 2 names seeming likely and a RB, would love Roberts back but seen rumours he could be set to stay in England and Risgwrs seems to fancy Hayes and Miller as back up for KT.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - We've got 3 RBs already.}

06 Aug 2018 20:48:43
Ed are u saying u don't think we'll sign a cb? If your not saying that then who we after? Duverne? Denayer? John Terry? 😂😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Pi$$ off you!}

06 Aug 2018 21:30:29
Rodgers did say back in November that we needed one and we still don't have one bought in. Obviously took the hull boy on trial and supposedly had a look at the Lisbon rb so it's clear we're looking to strengthen that area. I'll be quite disappointed if we don't bring one in!

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I know but we've got Lustig, Gamboa, Ralston and he's played Hendry there too, like the CB situation I think it'll take Gamboa leaving- and I reckon Ralston will go out on loan again - for us to sign another RB.
We're stockpiling players and badly need to trim the numbers, having a 30+ man squad is ridiculous and a huge drain on the wage bill. Players like De Vries, Gamboa, Bitton, Compper and Allan need to be moved on, Christie, Kouassi, Benyu, Hayes, Ralston, and Calvin Miller need to either start playing games for us or going out on loan.}

06 Aug 2018 21:54:29
Totally agree, problem is players like Bitton will want to stay because of their wages and Gamboa looks like he could be useful but I think we all know Rodgers wants rid and Lustig just looks too slow to play out there now. Speaking of fringe players I'd love to see Christie get a chance and take it!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - We play enough games against teams like Hamilton, Livingston and St Mirren not to mention cup games against lower league teams for the fringe players like Christie to play and show they can step up. I don't mean fill the team with them but have a few of them in the team with regulars and see how things go - it's the only way we'll ever know if they can be Celtic players.}

06 Aug 2018 22:06:10
Agree Ed, we have way too many fringe players. We might have 3 RB’s but we have 2 that are not good enough and one that has been a great servant but no longer has the legs for 60 games a season and will struggle in Europe. Yes Gamboa and Lustig were at the World Cup but would u be happy with either in CL against anyone?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - But they're still there so we can't just go out and buy another one, and yes I'd be happy enough with a fully fit Lustig in the CL so why not use Gamboa or Ralston more to allow Lustig to be fully fit for the bigger games? I'm not sure about Ralston but Gamboa could surely handle most of the SPFL?}

06 Aug 2018 22:20:49
Would say there's less than handful that can actually make it here. You heard anything on Roberts? Bit odd to see him come out in the media and then Rodgers to do the same if there was no chance, I highly doubt he'll be at city on Thursday but if he is I further doubt he'll take a loan with option to buy in the championship.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't know what's happening with Roberts, there's not been the level of interest in him that he expected but the guy that told me last year he was coming back isn't too sure what's happening.
I'm saying it's 50/50, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens now but I reckon his agent will be working his butt off to get him a move to an half-decent Pub League team.}

06 Aug 2018 22:28:26
Doesn't seem fancied at all, only really played out of necessity. For me, Lustig should be used more centrally just because he can't really get up and down the pitch anymore and just looks so slow now.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think Lustig will move on next summer when his contract's up.}

06 Aug 2018 23:25:40
If we are going to go with 3-5-2 domestically then a right back isn’t required, with Lustig or Hendry likely to play RCB and Forrest on the wing.

Not sure a 3-5-2 would be a smart move in the CL so likely to go 4 at the back and defending will take priority over attacking in most games so Lustig should be fine.

Next Summer I think it will be the priority position though.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - 3 at the back gives me the fear.

07 Aug 2018 00:17:52
You think we'll see Roberts back up the road in any instance?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Are you $hitting me?}

07 Aug 2018 06:28:59
I'm not sure about you guys but I've actually been impressed with Gambia! I think him and forrest have been linking up well down the wing.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2018 10:24:19
Just thought it was odd that someone stuck their neck out to say Roberts was coming back, which isn't that far fetched, but then went on to say it would be permanent.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'd already explained what I know and what I think.}

07 Aug 2018 12:24:56
Just read that Mcginn is away to England, disappointing if true, guy who said it is usually spot on.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 15:20:05
Hi Ed, managed to get a read last week but didn't have time to post so firstly condolences, never easy losing a friend. I hope he got a good send off. Are you still expecting quality signings? Stupid question i know! I'm as confident as i was when i last posted. I think we will add some very decent players once the EPL window slams shut. We all want players asap with having the qualifiers so early but why should we pay over the odds for any player, and i enclude McGinn in that a player you know i am desperate to see in the Hoops. Been impressed with the entire squad pre season and young Morgan looked fantastic before injury. Thought we looked far more dangerous with Dembele and Edouard playing together the football on display was fast flowing and lovely to watch. Also can't wait to see Griffiths back surely any of the 3 can play that system. Roll on Wednesday 3-0 win, Edouard hat-trick. HH.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Hi Stan, thanks for that. I agree with you that once the English window closes we'll see some movement from us and I don't think McGinn will sign until Hibs Euro fate is decided but I'm certain he'll be a Celtic player when the window closes. I think the lack of signings could be down to the level of players we want won't agree to move until we're in the CL, I don't believe for a minute we've not been trying to get players in.}

06 Aug 2018 17:37:55
Ed can't see anything other than loans from EPL when window closes.

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Aug 2018 18:17:07
I understand that some players want to play in the Champions League. However do we really want prima dona types who are holding out for this only. So what happens after the CL campaign finishes do they shut up shop and decide they don't want to play at Hamilton and Kilmarnock etc as its too cold in winter and are miffed cause we are possibly in the Europa League. Whilst I appreciate attracting a better level of player is difficult without this, they need to see past this and want to actually play for this great club. imo.

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Aug 2018 18:17:29
Forest supporter here, and I am fond of Celtic. however why has no one said much about that embarrassment of a Celtic "supporter" at Belfast Airport? Have I missed something?

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 17:51:57
Do you think we will end up adding Allan as a sweetner just to get it over the line Ed. Petrie is playing a dangerous game if it's true McGinn is prepared to wait and sign a pre contract. I read both Lenny, Dempsey and others were happy to accept the £2m and get on with their own signings. I very much doubt Petrie will get the better of PL. Looking forward to the latter end of the window, all the best with the madness that is to come.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I expect Celtic to pay up a percentage of Allan's contract to let him join Hibs on a free before the window closes.}

06 Aug 2018 18:52:07
Rogie every support has people who shame their clubs. That guy had no class at all. He doesn’t represent me or any Celtic man or woman I know.

06 Aug 2018 19:23:42
Cheers Ed, clearly a move that suits both Clubs and Allan. What do you make of the CP surface? Looks incredible. The entire stadium does actually.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The playing surface looks fantastic on the TV and hopefully helps improve the standard of our play after last season's grind to honours.}

06 Aug 2018 19:44:46
Rogie red? Are u the same forrest fan who can't spell your club's name and has been posting on the sevco pages sucking up for the past few days? 🤣🤣🤣 wrong page mate!

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 19:51:44
Rogie Red, never seen you on here before strangely enough. The guys behaviour cannot be condoned. But maybe you missed Nacho Novo celebrating the 12th and photographed with the fflag and flute band in Belfast in 2016? Two wrongs don’t make a right but let’s keep it all in perspective. Maybe you were on here in 2016 and I missed it.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 20:32:59
Just stated the obvious regarding McKay? Hardly "sucking up"?
Don't know where you got 'tbe past few days either?

Rogie, the Celtic guys behaviour was appalling. Great thing is everyone on here agrees that he should be picked up by police. At least he didn't stab anyone.

I thought he was outstanding against us.

Somebody needs to tell Phil the Sevco Doom predictor that insolvency is postponed until next week.
Another £2.5m from down the sofa.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 17:38:47
Where is the money coming from?

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 18:29:52
Over the last 3 seasons sevco have spent around £20mill. they may have recouped £5mill, so nett spend £15mill. Why do we keep saying they are skint. Obviously not and i am a Celtic supporter. King must be funding it so am surprised the takeover panel are not digging deeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's season ticket money.}

06 Aug 2018 19:15:53
Nah, definitely a sofa rummage. Season ticket money had £3m to pay back that loan. The Scourers wages, all the players. Don’t get me wrong, when Torres, Defoe, Messi, Beckenbaur and Pele turn up I think they will need a jaikit rummage and at least three gingy runs to the van.

Or is it Provy cheques? Wherever it is it seems to be finding loot. Plus bare in mind, by the time Ed posts this they will probably be in Admin, Phil told me, keep it tae yersel. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 19:30:10
Do you's actually think they are paying all this money upfront?
And do you's believe the values being printed.
They said Pedro spent more than 10 million and it came out it was about half of that.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 19:49:49
Your rite kev83 3.5 million in accounts . The figures being leaked include the contract wages 🤣🤣🤣 the rags trying to make it look as though they can compete . They are losing money hand over fist and saying the retail deal is 3x what man u get % wise on strip sales 🙈🙈🙈.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 22:04:41
Aye yer right. They’re giving them aw IOU’s, everybody knows they’re good at paying up.
They are getting money from somewhere, why would a club agree to say they spent £3m and only sent up a tray of pies?

Conspiracy theories seldom, if ever, hold up to clinical scrutiny. Unless you believe any old rubbishe and are immune to critical thinking.

Next week though, Wednesday, around teatime. Boom!

If we drop into the Europa league we will play either
Spartaks Jurmala (LVA) or Suduva (LTU)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2018 14:47:59
Dint know anything about them but compared to whom we could have had either one is a bonus. Hopefully Kev, we won't need to play either.

Did we not beat suduva comfortably under O'Neil in the Seville season?

Why are sly sports saying new saints or mydjtland ( spelling ) will play malmo or videoton? Has the tie been changed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Isn't it the losers play each other in the EL?}

06 Aug 2018 13:57:31
Yeah we’ve been drawn against the winners of the Suduva tie. UEFA covering the bases for when teams drop into EL.

{Ed007's Note - :)

06 Aug 2018 12:25:59
Whilst i do think we'll get to the CL Groups, it's farcical how many qualifiers/ matches we have to play to get there!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2018 13:12:48
Its all geared now to providing European football for 16 elite clubs. The rest don't matter they are there to fill in the dates to generate tv revenue. The elite attract the viewers. So if its not us it will be another club from a lower profile league. Horse has bolted. It won't get any easier.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 13:20:43
Brendan, its crazy to see the amount of hoops the teams need to jump through.

The worst part I feel is the teams that even the other Scots are getting drawn against in the EL. Hibs get the joys of Zenit, even if Aberdeen won they would have had Istanbul.

Then there's the unfortunate draw for them, the mighty progress.

It's making it more and more difficult for the national coefficient.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 11:57:43
So Malmo Or Videoton in the next round if we beat AEK. Hopefully we play well against AEK, I can't see us losing the round. Boyata 9 million to Fulham? For that money + Armstrong cash, surely we can bring in someone like Dendoncker from Anderlecht?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2018 12:17:07
Dendoncker was being quoted as £20-25M earlier in the summer Ken.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 13:19:32
True kev as was Filip Benkovic but Leicester have got him for 11 million which is an absolute steal.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 14:02:10
You’re right enough Ken that’s a steal compared to the £25M Chelsea were apparently paying for him 3 weeks ago. Where do these rumours come from?

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 15:32:18
I think it’s to do with bigger clubs being able to spend the money, for example if arsenal go in for Dendoncker, Anderlecht will command the highest fee possible, but if celtic go in for him then they know its difficult to command such a great fee from the club. I think that’s how the media come up with their “valuations” and usually why any deal is inncaurate. Dendoncker is a prospect and I would love him in this celtic team, can play CB and in the midfield. I would have liked Anderlechts ex-captain Aswell but he moved to russia for a small fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 16:00:27
We need at least one new defender. I liked the look of Tin Jedvaj from Bayer Leverkusen a few years ago when there was a lot of buzz around him. Can play right of a back 3 or RB. He got a big move to Roma which didn’t work out. Since then he’s played a decent amount for Bayer but not a first pick and has still made 10/ 15 appearances for Croatia at 22. That’s maybe the route we need to look at - players with quality and a point to prove.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 11:31:32
Fulham have bid 9 million for Boyata apparently.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2018 10:08:07
Rumours heating on Boyata with Fulhams hat entering the ring so to speak. Could this be something you c as a possibility and is bringing in someone like a Craig Dawson to replace him what do u think to that ED?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - What is it with you and Craig Dawson?}

06 Aug 2018 12:04:44
It's a name that has came up on reports I don't know enough to rate him but others seem to link him with Celtic so just posing the question that's all. I don't see any other CBs being linked other than the Swiss cb who signed for an EPL clubs.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Wasn't it a hit whoring site that linked us to Dawson and it was just one of those 'I think Celtic should sign....' articles? I doubt we could afford him.}

06 Aug 2018 12:27:39
Do you have any thoughts to us getting in a new CB ED?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't think we'll sign a CB unless one or more of the one's already here leave.}

06 Aug 2018 12:51:52
I think if Fulham do offer 9m we could agree that would be a great deal and am not convinced we could match or better their personal terms that Fulham will offer Boyata so he could leave that would be the only one that could leave in my eyes but will c come Thursday 5pm.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 09:35:21
Ed do you think there is a real chance of us getting Roberts back on board? Or is it just paper talk?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I think Paddy might have been a little surprised and disappointed at the level of teams showing interest in him.We know he is very confident in his own ability and probably doesn't fancy a Pub League relegation fight or even worse playing in the Championship.}

06 Aug 2018 13:18:58
Ed he is a top championship or a mid table EPL team. A Newcastle or a Burnley. However they will pay him £30k a week no problem. I don't think he would be sold for less than £8mill to £10mill maybe more. Is he really a £10mill player? don't think so.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 13:35:20
Johnnymac players that have no first team experience, no European experience and have won nothing in the game are going for more than
8-10 million right now.
Jesus Christ waghorn is valued at 8 million so paddy is definitely a 10 million player.
Think fans need to get their heads round the fact that 10 million doesn't buy you very much now a days.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 17:42:42
I agree Kev but he is £10mill because he is in EPL. You have seen him play for us. He is not a £10mill player. Thete must be better ways to spend £10mill and with Morgan, the Aussie coming in do we really need Paffy. don't think so.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 11:23:39
Malmo or Vidi if we get past AEK.

Don’t know anything about Vidi, they knocked out ludogrets who I think are a decent side. Assuming we play Malmo though I’m happy with that.

I know they knocked us out a few years ago but we were shocking.

Come on Celtic beat AEK our chances getting to group stages now pretty good hail hail.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2018 13:22:53
Tim Malmo are not the problem. AEK are a much more difficult match. The whole thing is mad. AEK have a better coefficient than Malmo and Vidi. Think AEK only come into the competition at this stage so that accounts for the coefficient. So we will have our work cut out there. Fingers crossed. Need our best on the park wed.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 11:14:10
Malmo or Videoton of Hungary in the play off if we get through. Away leg first. What an opportunity.

Read in the guardian today Southampton are looking to get rid of Fraser Forster, would be a good signing for us to replace the hologram of craig gordon we've been playing at the back for the past couple years. Any chance of it happening?

06 Aug 2018 13:54:26

I would fine it strange bringing in morgan the Aussie bhoy and Roberts.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 10:52:55
Morgan I feel can play either side the Australian don't know what can bring to the party yet but PR7 that speaks for its self and I think we were denied that due to his injury so am up for another sighting this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 11:04:46
Roberts is a good player but that will be a lot of wingers
Sinclair
Forrest
Morgan
Hayes
Johnstone
The Aussie
Roberts.
It's a hard one. Could the money be better spent in other areas of the pitch?
1 thing that would bother me is being used as his back up because no one else wanted him but I'd be happy to get him but I wouldn't be devastated if we didn't.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 11:26:43
That's a possibility of three players for either side with Sinclairs form up and down with Hayes coming back in Morgan could be an option that side too Johnston just breaking through with Forrest being the main pick there at the moment with PR7 if possible I think that Johnston could then Benefit from seeing these guys in training every day and now with the restart of the reserve league getting player to be around this environment will be better for him in the long run.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2018 09:41:45
So our play off opponents will be known BEFORE we play AEK Athens.
What surprised me was reading online about our potential opponents in the Europa League, IF we fail to beat AEK, some big teams including our old pals Legia Warsaw.
So it is even more important now we win through over the two legs, so we can renew aquaintences with Quarabag, because you just KNOW if we win we will be sent halfway around the world and back AGAIN.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2018 11:02:37
I really think this is the toughest 'Ask' we have ever faced in order to qualify for a group stage. OK we played an unknown team at first - but we were still in pre-season then and we had a hiccup in a similar game in Gibraltar last season. Rosenberg and AEK would probably beat most of our SPL opponents over two legs and the next game if we progress - will be even tougher.
I'm not saying any of these opponents are better than us, but the timing and concentrated period of these games (coupled with a recent world cup taking players away and reducing rest periods) is very demanding and contributory to early season injuries.

It's a huge ask to go in at first round qualifiers and qualify for group stage. Wonder if it has been done before? Anyone know.

Kev, I don't know what to do about Boyata. I was surprised he got the call up. He was getting pelters on here 1 out of every 3 games. Now he has had a good world cup, reactions towards him are more positive. I think his mistakes are down to bad concentration and complacency. Also with Belgium he is playing with better players around him so in some ways he gets more support. Give me a choice between him and Hendry and its Boyata every time. If he wants to sign on keep him. If not we need to do something pretty quick with the £9mill which is more than i thought we would be offered.

Johnny I see boyata the same way I look at Gordon. Keep it simple he can do a job but ask him to do more and he struggles.
That being said if we punt him we better have a replacement lined up as it would leave us very short at the back right now.
But it all depends on if he wants to sign a new contract.

Never accept a first offer; If the player wants to leave - and I think his advisers are pushing him out the door - then demand £12m!
In today's crazy market, that is a bargain for a WC 3rd placer and we can have another VVD sell-on clause - who would have thought? ha ha.
