OK, a thought for you all.
Over the last few seasons we have been frustrated as fans. We haven't been brilliant in Europe but we've been good enough to be successful on the domestic front apart from the cups. At the end of the day the league is always more important but Europe doesn't appear to have been given the same attention.
Ronny was a good guy, a decent soul, but he was shyte at managing a club of our stature. We now have a man in charge who comes with an incredible pedigree. Let's back him 100% and let's not be disappointed when things do not change overnight. Things will change and we will be a much better club because of it as long as we as diehard fans give it time.
I am a Celtic fanatic, I live and breathe for our club but I am also a realist. Sometimes the important things in life take time to change and there is NOTHING more important to me than the fabulous Glasgow Celtic. It requires a bit of patience and enthusiasm so let's not grumble about the trivial shyte. Let's look forward with optimism and give everything we have to our manager, our players and ourselves as fan. We really are the people that matter and even though a part of me is glad that Sevco have had a rough ride there's a bigger part of me that says we're going to have a fabulous season.

Hail Hail, Celtic 'til I die!

Bestybhoy, well said. Rome wasn't built in a day. We will win the league, we have more than enough for that. Europe will take time and patience, and that's only to compete. Onward and upwards, Hail Hail.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bestybhoy A very good post . I agree with what u say about R D. The Board let him down by not helping him to deal with the Rangers loving media who were bullying him and making life difficult from the outset . He wasn't prepared or ready for it and couldn't handle these regular press attacks .
R D was made to look weak and even some of our own turned against him . By the time the Cup semi final came around he was like a terrorised animal staying in corner and didn't let the team play .
I think B R is more experience, won't let the media get to him, will be able to pressurise board to get a reasonable % of players. I don't think he will suffer fools gladly and I like the quality of his buys.

ED007 can you give us an idea of Sinclair fee, heard anything from £3m to £4.5m.

{Ed007's Note - I was told yesterday that we eventually just stumped up Villa's original asking price of £4m.}

Simo
Eric
Toure
Oconnel
Derrick
Efe
Lustig

Pick your top two.

Eric, Toure.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 22:54:55
Island Celt: that's a difficult 1 as we really have not seen Simo at full fitness yet.
Oconnell is just making in roads to the 1st team, although the signs are good.
Lustig is only starting to play that position, but i liked how well he did against Astana.
Toure not match fit but will be used accordingly.
Eric is solid and prob our best CB.
Derrick, don't know a lot about him?
Efe. really does need to get his confidence back, but think it would be better for him to move on.

So to answer your question: Erik and OConnell:

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2016 00:25:14
Lustig (easy) and O'Connell at the moment.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Aug 2016 09:04:26
In the long run I am hoping for Simo EriK and oconnell to be the 3 main contenders for the CBs positions.
But this season toures experience is going to be vital.
Think Lustig is also going to be important this season.

Efe and dedrick. haha no, no no, absolutely not not in a million years are they Celtic quality.

Lindenjimmy, top comment on O'Connell. He is going to be a star for us. Look at his cousin Paul. That's exactly the spirit, heart and fight we're going to get out of this lad. Plays with his heart, gives everything for the shirt and even though he may not be the finished article he soon will be. If BR has faith in him and we are able to keep him then he will be a warrior of a defender for years to come. He will give everything for Celtic and we should give him our unwavering support. Let's look at the long game with him, he will join our list of true legends.

Brendan Rodgers should be given a free pass in Europe this year, he has been handed the task of trying to rebuild a disjointed unit in a short space of time. Anything we achieve in Europe this year is a real bonus. When was the last time a Celtic manager achieved any success in Europe at the first attempt?

Agree3 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 20:45:00
How can your comment start with things are looking good just now to if we don't make the CL should Rodgers go? It's IDIOTIC! THe board seem to be willing to back Rodgers and we have signed some good players with still more to come by the looks of things! It's a positive time for our club and along time since the club has spent money in the right direction rather that half these diddys we've wasted money on! Let's just support the positive changes which are being made!

I think we be ok Stef think we get over line but not expecting much in group stages if we do get there thing that I like he seems to have final say on transfers he's no daft knew he wasn't gone have a massive war chest but players he brought in and seems to be looking at definitely add quality give it time bud it come good☘.

06 Aug 2016 22:41:47
Didn't the Lord almighty Brendan Rodgers first European game end in utter humiliation? I want to be optimistic but right now nothing's been achieved and as for a free pass in Europe does he get that because he's celtic minded unlike the previous manager who was up against it from day one.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 23:30:11
Stef

You need to dry your eyes about RD.

I along with every other Celtic fan wanted RD to be a huge success regardless of him being Celtic minded or not. The facts don't lie.

The job was just too much for him, it was making him ill.
He accepted staff forced on him.
He stuck by players not up to the job.
He had players forced on him who he didn't rate.
He never had a plan B.
He not only lost to Sevco, we were embarrassed by them.
Europe was a joke.
Our players fitness was dire.
We looked more likely to lose a goal in the last 5 minutes than score.

The team went backwards faster than a fat kid backing away from a salad. I agree nothing has been achieved yet but I am certainly a bit more optimistic now than I have been in the last 18 months under RD.

Only cloud on horizon at the moment is young Paddy being out for European game. The bhoy is a special talent and very much wish he wasn't just with us on loan. BR was my choice as manager ahead of Moyes or others named but I still had a small question mark over him. Question mark now gone. I think in a very short time he has improved Celtic just by virtue of his management style and tactical awareness. He has already shown he can change a game. He also comes across very well and the more I hear him speak the more I'm impressed. Great answer to question as to whether the league was better or worse with a certain newly promoted team in it. Brendan stated his only attraction in coming to Scottish football was Glasgow Celtic one of the great teams in the world. When asked if he was disappointed young Paddy was out for CL his response was yes for him rather being peimarily concerned about the potential impact on the team and his chance of success. I also thought he was correct and brave to criticise some Celtic fans for impatience on Wednesday night. To sum up I'm impressed and think BR will go on to be a massive success for us. He comes across as being his own man and confident without being arrogant. His genuine affection for Celtic and the supporters is obvious.

Well said JFP, we have the best manager that we could hope for. I'll put on record that we will win the SPL by January and the treble is very possible. Hail Hail.

Agree4 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 18:41:12
JFP1888, very well put, there is a good feeling about the club at the moment. A lot of this is down to the managers demeanor and decisions. I think it is important that this is not seen as a one season project, if BR is given time and the correct backing I think he could build something special.

Morning Bhoys

Now that sinclair is in the bag who else would you like to see brought in? I reckon that we should get a keeper and a playmaker, rumours that our budget was about 15 mill (rumour) but let's say it is. Diff stories regarding how much sinclair cost but let's say it 4.5 mill, the two i would like to see for those position would be Marshall, i reckon we could get him for a few mill ( maybe 5) , but would be an instant upgrade ( also think it would help gordon if he knows his place is under serious threat, Now the next boy i mentioned got a lot of disagrees when i posted b4, then got him confused with pogba last week till Ed corrected me. That player is Ravel morrison, i know he has an attitude but if we could harness it on the pitch we would have an absolute baller on our hands. Ed said earlier in the week that lazio wouldn't be so difficult to deal with, plus BR has great man management, Gamble?, i reckon it is but if the gamble pays off, what a player. What would be your choices lads?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

06 Aug 2016 15:03:27
Everytime someone signs morrison we hear the samething.
He we can get his head right we will have a cracking player on our hands.

06 Aug 2016 15:15:54
I would love Celtic to sign Michel Vorm. Outstanding GK and exactly what we need right now. Vorm was in goal years ago when we played FC Utrecht and I wanted Celtic to sign him then. Maybe another centre half but that would depend on how far Jozo is away from full fitness As Toure, Sivatchenko, O'connell, Boyata and Jozo should be enough IMO.

Agree6 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 16:17:54
Wouldn't touch Morrison with a barge pole! Think a GK and definitely a creative CM for me! Someone of real quality! Think if everyone is fit then we're covered at centre half with kolo, jozo, Erik, o'connel, boyata. quality CM and GK for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 16:28:16
Keeper is #1 target for me now. Vorm would be a good realistic shout I think Mick Dundee. I was suggesting Romero before he went to Man U, got to be worth a look. I also like Timo Horn and Sergio Padt.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 17:33:19
Would be over the moon with Horn reckon he'd be quite pricey mind and horrified with Romero he's a total bomscare. Gordon is a much better keeper.

06 Aug 2016 18:24:41
Keeper
Keeper
Keeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2016 04:31:31
We can afford 'quite pricey' I reckon Tompo, for somebody like Horn, given what we've spent/ saved. As for Romero I'm basing it on his time in the Netherlands mostly. From what I saw/ read he was good in Italy. I wouldn't base too much on United and Monaco. But of those keepers Horn would be my first pick ideally.

06 Aug 2016 11:34:04
Looking like the SS signing will be finally going through. happy days. my only query
regarding this player that he appears to be very right footed. I was hoping his signing would give us some real width and pace up the left flank, so we can finally start get some crosses in to our strikers who are both useful in the air. wee Roberts is magic and a total breath of fresh air but like Sinclair prefers to cut inside so not many crosses from that side either. basically both like to come inside and create in the central areas. Personally, . being a bit older. I'm hoping Brendan has noticed this and will be encouraging both wingers to swap flanks regularly, mix it up a bit and get to the by line more. making us less one dimensional and harder to defend against. Hail hail .

Believable2 Unbelievable0

06 Aug 2016 12:10:41
The wingers cut inside, draw the defenders and either shoot or play it wide to the overlapping full back.

Agree1 Disagree1

06 Aug 2016 12:46:48
I know it's early and stuff can go wrong quickly but the signings br has brought in, the way he is now releasing players and shaking up the players from the last few regimes . This could be our most exciting and attractive season we have had for many a year. For the last few seasons I like a lot of us, started the season keen and after a few months got depressed at some of the one dimensional football we were playing and under average signings we were bringing in. Finally it seems the board are prepared to back a decent manager with funds . Can't wait now, and on a side note (can't wait to smash the Huns after our crap performance in the semi last year) .

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 14:22:39
Maybe one or two more who can come in like the three so far and specifically strengthen positions of the team and we are getting there . I never like too few or too many coming in at the one time . Too few and the team isn't strengthened and too many and team spirit can be interfered with and players may not be able to link up naturally on the pitch.

If we lose rogic it'd be a great disappointment the lad needs games but he gives them to waste of space mcgregor hoping he gets a start on Sunday.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

06 Aug 2016 10:40:00
Why is everyone slagging off macgregor?
Calling him a waste of space is bang out of order.
I'm not saying he is brilliant, but a homegrown youngsters should be encouraged rather than posting drivel like this about them.

Agree6 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 10:35:16
Technically he's the best option. All I think it's coming down to is he can't do as much mileage as McGregor or Armstrong. Perhaps Rogic could just be a bit of a super sub for now?

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Aug 2016 11:17:48
I am a fan of rogic and wee mcgregor.
We got to remember that the manager has a style of play.
Ever think maybe he doesn't think rogic suits it or is mobile enough for it?

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 11:19:00
Plus am I right in saying rogic has been offered a new contract but like James forrest he has turned it down?

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Aug 2016 11:43:16
Haven't seen any news about Rogic, but again when did he stand out in a big European game or a domestic cup game that mattered.

He is a good player with real fitness issues since he signed for us. Armstrong and McGregor have the fitness and I think they have more to come. Let BR manage the team and for once us supporters just back the manager who knows more about the players than we do,

Mowbray, Lennon and Deila got slaughtered at times and rightly so but let's this season get fully behind Celtic and support the 11 that get picked to win a game

This could be the treble season we have been waiting for over the last 5 years and either way we have Europe until Christmas

Hail hail Bhoys.

Agree2 Disagree1

06 Aug 2016 12:44:08
We all seem to be forgetting we have two other young players in Christie and Henderson who are technically better footballers than McGregor hands down. As for Rogic, he scored a massive goal against Kilmarnock a few months ago that was a significant moment in the race for the title and also equalised against Rangers in the SC semi final. I don't recall McGregor doing much when he came on in the same game.

Agree1 Disagree1

06 Aug 2016 13:22:01
Is that the same Christie who was given a start away against the Imps and did absolutely nothing?

I think Henderson is a decent player but you have to remember he broke through 3 seasons ago under Lennon. He hardly played under Delia while at Celtic and hasn't featured under Rodgers. A very similar situation to Scott Allan where comments were "2 managers can't be wrong" was used. Looks like he won't make the grade at Celtic.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 13:52:57
what about mcgregor scoring in europe? i don't understand all this criticism of him. Against astana he created chances, took the ball under pressure on a few occasions and drew fouls and rarely gives possession away. He's a far better option than bitton as he will run with the ball on the break also.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 14:26:49
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about Celtic players, up to a point, I doubt if it is fair to call Mc Gregor a waste of space . Rogic has played very well for us, but he lacks consistency and he very rarely plays very well for 90 mins .

It's a great time of year to go to the sea as mackerel will be about and are a really easy catch. The cheapest of setups will do, just some feathers, swivels and weights. If your in the middle I'd suggest the east coast as the waters seem to be a bit healthier. Not all inland stocked fisheries allow bait and some are fly only so it's worth checking that. Good news if you pick up light spinning rods you can use them for both sea and bait fishing inland. Best option is to pick a peir as you will get into deep water and wheelchair access won't be a problem. another thing to look at is tide times. Search it and there are a few sites if you enter the location it will telly you when high tide is so you can plan your day. Early evening is also good for mackerel because they come closer to shore but you should be OK as long as the tide is in. Good luck and I hope you catch loads bud!

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Aug 2016 07:43:01
Anyone any idea who Rodgers may have been referring to when he mentioned he wanted another player in on top of Sinclair by Monday or shortly after?
I still think we could do with another 3 or 4 in on top of Sinclair. Our squad is still far too big but I think if we get through to the group stages we will see a few more pushed through the door (probably a few on loan) and 1 or 2 marquee signings in or around transfer deadline day that Rodgers has probably been promised if he reaches the groups.
A new gk is a must now. I used to like Gordon but the more I've seen him this year I've realised he's an accident waiting to happen. I like lustig in the centre so a rb to rival janko would be handy.
A powerful target man that chips in with his fair share of goals is a must also.
Then if we qualify I can see us maybe pushing the boat out with a real quality creative mf that I think is a must for Europe. We just don't have anywhere near enough quality in there at the minute and Rodgers surely realises that.
Wh should still have enough to see off this Israeli side but here's hoping.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

06 Aug 2016 09:03:22
Agree about Gordon, how does a GK's dip so badly? It's not as he's carrying an injury, we need a dependable GK and in my view a playmaker to help break down defences, as no names have been offered I doubt we will get either and it will be more defenders/ midfielders we get.

I think his fragile mind will be scrambled due to the lack of a consistent defence in front of him. He felt the need to defend that ball like Nauer and made a cod of it but if that was Eric and someone else he may have had more confidence in them dealing with it. I'm not suggesting that the defenders playing weren't competent it's just that Gordon doesn't know for sure what action they will take because they haven't settled as a back 4. A settled back 4 is quite important for a goalie.

Ed, forgive my impertinence, I have been a long time reader of this forum, and just recently with the aid of my kids capable of responding and hopefully contributing to the ongoing debate regarding our beloved Celtic. It is always interesting to hear the views and aspirations of supporters of different generations where our expectations seem to be somewhat different.

Boy looks decent, then again so did feruz fotheringham and Forrest to name a few at that age. Hopefully he develops into a good player and maintains a good attitude and not your typical underachieving Scot.

I attended at a function connected to the Gothia Youth world cup where Alan Shearer was a speaker. He spoke to coaches about when he appeared at the youth tournament he never got a game until the last ten minutes of the final game. What he was trying to get across was that at that age the stars of today are not necessarily the stars of tomorrow. I've always kept that in mind and don't normally big up youngsters however the young boy Dembele looks really exciting and hopefully he will be a star of a future Celtic team.

"Cynical fans, perhaps burnt by the Islam Feruz experience a few years ago, later suggested that the media will now try and 'sell' the youngster, but a source close to the club's Academy said that Dembele and his family are happy and settled in Glasgow. And are particularly pleased with the way he has been treated by the coaching staff within the Academy.

His coaches are keen to protect him and shield him from the hype but the St Kevin's show was not a one off. Celtic's Under-13s won the prestigious Bassevelde Cup in Belgium last month, beating Borussia Dortmund in the final and Dembele was again named player of the tournament. He plays regularly for the Under-14 and 15 sides.

It's very early days yet, but with Celtic handing a debut to 16-year-old Jack Aitchison last season - and the young forward promptly scoring - if Dembele stays on course, he might get a chance sooner, rather than later. "

Hopefully we can keep the young lad grounded and with recent academy projects making the step up Celtic will hopefully become a good place for all young players to get thier chance.

Superb video, like the fact on the actual web page that he threatened to stop playing football if they took him away from Celtic.

Not surprised Alan Shearer only got the last ten minutes of games when he was a youngster . His skill level at any time was minimal and his success came about by bullying and intimidation . Remember what he did to Lennon and his bullying of the EFA so that he would get away with it .
