Hi guys,

First time posting and it could be a dangerous subject But imo I would jump at the chance of £20m/ £25m for one of our player. I know we need to have ambition (retain our best players) but surely some things are to good to refuse.

Be gentle.

HH.

I don't think any offer has been made, however, if there were to be one made it really is all about Celtic being brave enough to knock it back. You would have to applaud if they finally showed some real ambition and guile. Be brave i would say, we could get really silly money if the boy keeps going the way he has.

£20m is nothing these days. Villa spent £15mil on Kodija and £14mil on McCormack in the Summmer, 2 players who had never played higher than the Championship. Dembele has succeeded at that level and now at champions league level while also scoring 5 against them, a few for france u21s and goals in cup semi/ final. Plus he's only 20! Teams won't just be paying for current ability they'll be paying for future potential. I'd say we are on a par with Basle in terms of budget, big fish in small pond etc. They sold Breel Embolo to Schalke for £25mil in the summer. Dembele is worth at least £30mil.

Agree8 Disagree2

06 Jan 2017 10:04:37
West Ham have apparently upped their offer for Jermaine Defoe to £13 million. Defoe is 34. If they are willing to pay that for someone who probably last no longer than this season and next for them, they can treble their offer for Moussa!

Agree2 Disagree1

06 Jan 2017 10:08:13
Why are we even contemplating a bid for Dembele.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Jan 2017 10:28:18
I totally agree - even if they offered £60 million, if still say no - he can help get to the champions league again, and hopefully, make an impact in the group stages, which will more than compensate financially and in the meantime, his value will only continue to saw.
I was only pointing out that their comparative values of Defoe against Dembele were nothing more than insulting.

Agree2 Disagree2

06 Jan 2017 11:14:40
Agreed in principle RM17 that we need to accept we're a shop window for EPL and that that should be our business model ie. find raw talent and nurture it then punt it at the right price with sell on clauses as we did with VVD and Wanyama etc. But agree with the troops it's too early to even consider a bid for Big Dembelle the Hunskelper! Few seasons and plenty of time for that. We need to get the balance right in getting the best out of them first for a few seasons or BR is just a glorified scout 🍀

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jan 2017 11:23:24
Like all of us I always want to keep our best players as long as possible and find it disappointing when we lose someone to diddy English teams who flirt with relegation or hope for a decent cup run in between perennial mediocrity - just as long as they can be paid enormous wages.
Unfortunately thanks to the piss-poor standard in Scotland and the lack of competition and the pittance paid by SLY, we are onto plumbs when a significantly big offer is made.
The situation is even harder to take when the player has made no indication or desire to leave, but the offers are accepted nonetheless because of desperation or lack of ambition. Hopefully BR can influence things differently?

06 Jan 2017 11:27:35
Good points there LM. I was talking to a mate who asked me about price for Dembele, if he was sold who would I want etc. Embolo was the name and price I quoted as he's the most similar replacement I could think of. It's all pie in the sky atm, I just hope if any bids do come in the club show a bit of resolve as his price tag is only going to go up.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jan 2017 11:50:57
@PT-perennial mediocrity- I liked that! Could see me hoovering that one up and passing it off as ma own. Did anybody ever write a song called a wee bhoys dream that said 'I dreamt I played for Bournemouth? '. PS: Think I bettered you're description of Biton yesterday though and appreciated you appreciated that 😀👍🍀

Ed, it is interesting that Celtic Supporters fluctuate between believing we are one of the worlds biggest clubs, to suddenly experiencing Orgasmic pleasure at the thought of 20 Million pounds being bid for one of our players.
I am a pragmatic and realistic person personally and socially. I understand the temptation to accept such a seemingly astronomical amount for any player in our league, but I would urge caution!
First of all, I do not think any club would start bidding with a Scottish club at 20 million.
Secondly, I would hope that as a club we are now at the stage, with a recognised, sought after manager, a turnover coveted by 90% of clubs in Europe and a history second to few, that we can at last dictate our terms to supposed suitors.
Thirdly. The days of supposedly big clubs from the utopia of England courting our talent for bargain basement fees should be over!
I hope The powers that be in our club have ambitions on a par with the supporters, and that the future is one of competition and not submitting.
Ed, to summarise, I hope you agree, we have to accept that there are bigger leagues and a few bigger clubs, but we can still compete, by buying wisely, building sensibly and asking clubs if their 20 million bid is in Lira!

Agree1 Disagree1

06 Jan 2017 15:52:16
I'd personally be gutted if they accepted that bid, which I don't think for a minute they will. The other point is dembele had multiple options during the summer including spurs who are a much better option than West Ham . After him personally saying he is both very happy at the club and came to get game time, champions league experience and experience of winning things, I personally don't think he would contemplate moving to them. He seems like he has his head screwed on regarding his career and can obviously see us as a stepping stone to a massive club. Not a tin pot club like them. When he leaves us I presume it's going to be a real top side . ( and for bigger money than 20 million

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jan 2017 14:10:07
I think the point is - would it be a good move to sell moussa if the price is right?
For me if a bid of 30 to 40 million came in then the club should sell, on the provision that the cash is re invested (a big if)

Remember when bitton was going to be a £12 million man
Izzy and Kayal £10 million? What did / will we end up getting?

If the money from; CL revenue, the VVD sell on, increased revenue, normal transfer budget plus Moussa? That would be some war chest. (Roberts, McCarthy, new striker, GK? )

As a supporter I want him to stay, BR to continue to progress the team and hopefully do something special maybe Europa league final?
However if Moussa will wants to go at some point we won't be able to stop him so maybe accepting a massive bid is the smart move?

Either way it's a good problem to have - keep a top drawer striker or have a massive amount to transform a whole team.

Hail Hail

Ed do you think it maybe possible we may try and offer dembele a contract extension with a significant pay rise maybe in the summer? It would make good business sense for both parties as we could hold out longer for potential bids and still make serious money and it would benifit dembele also as he could demand more money from the start for any club that does come in for him. Would love this to happen and hold on to him for at least 3 years and still make a fortune when he inevitably leaves?
Also any word on a loan move for young Ajer? As the league is wrapped up I think the second half of the season would be a good time for the kid to make his breakthrough.
Hope you had a merry Xmas and new year mate. Keep up the fine work.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed007's Note - Thanks mate, I had a great time and just the way I like it - nice and quiet :-D I hope you and your family enjoyed the festivities.
I wouldn't be surprised if he'll have pay rises etc written into his contract if he meets certain targets over a season but I'd be surprised if he would sign an extension this summer, maybe next summer might be a better time.
Ajer himself has said he'll be going to the English Championship on loan this month with Fulham and QPR are said to be interested.}

06 Jan 2017 08:35:33
Would love to see Ajer out on loan and get a few proper games under his belt. For such a young lad I thought his composure was insane in the warm up games, even whilst playing at CB. Was getting slightly concerned that this new lad coming in would spell the end for young Ajer, but considering the amount of positons he can play I am still hoping that's not the case

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jan 2017 09:29:42
He was talking in press the other day saying that both him and celtic see him as mainly a centre back now

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jan 2017 09:49:12
Think we are turning him into a ball playing centre half.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2017 23:50:27
Thanks ed, had a fine one down under. I would be pretty happy if he went to the championship for some game time. Probably better than going to a lower spl team but I wonder where Rodgers sees him playing and would he demand he be played in that position wherever he goes? CB or CM.
I'm delighted with the way the team is going just now and would love it if we tried our best to get Roberts full time but I can't see it happen but I do think we will have a very busy window ahead with plenty in and out

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I thought Ajer would have went on loan to another Scottish team so that there was minimum disruption to the kid's private life but he definitely needs to get out there playing games and learning.
I would love to see Roberts signed up but a lot of that will depend on what City want for him. I was told a few months ago that he wasn't in Guardiola's plans and would be allowed to leave City and as far as I know nothing's changed regarding that.}

08 Jan 2017 13:15:18
A can see your point ed, if he stays in Scotland it would be less hassle for the lad but if he can get a championship club that would be some experience for him, wae all the games they play in that league it would be a lot more of an education, if he was getting game time that is. Ad like to see him in pressure games like play offs at either end to see how he handles it.

Isn't it great just how quiet all the sevconians are just now, hogmany beating really has got to them, no doubt they'll surface from under there rock when we drop points in the league, just a question guys personally I think this era could be even better than MON era, i wake up every morning so happy and proud of this celtic side just now love going into work winding the dark side up they have nothing on us now on or off the park really think this team under brendan is going to do something special, he was our best signing this summer.

Agree that's probably never going to happen augustus but a europa league run get to last 16 then you never know but meant replicating MON results regarding europe beating sides like barca, juventus great european results against big teams think a lot of teams that play in europa league have improved a lot sinse 2003 but if we had that run again I think only liverpool and possibly celta vigo would be our hardest opponents so sort of contradicting maself there haha.

Hi Ed, hope you have had a good start to the new year mate?

Just read on Daily Rankers on line mate

I know I am away mate but "West ham reveal they have bid on there web site they have bid 20 million for a player in Scotland West ham stopped short of revealing the identity of the player but WE can reveal it is Moussa Dembele! "

Are they sure its not Barry McKay mate 😂😂🍀? (y)

Believable2 Unbelievable1

05 Jan 2017 16:48:38
So West Ham have bid £20 mill for Dembele. He won't be sold to them now but we now know we have a player worth at least 20 m to the EPL teams. If the lad gets a full cap and continues progress the return on this lad will be phenomenon when time to move on is decided .

Believable5 Unbelievable0

05 Jan 2017 17:31:48
Hopefully we keep him. But let's face it if West Ham are starting the bidding at 20m, it'll be interesting to see what other ones come in. Im not suggesting for a minute it will, but it will ne interesting to see PL and BR's resolve if a biding war starts and prices end up 30+m.

Agree2 Disagree1

05 Jan 2017 18:21:14
Get a grip 30+m you sir are delusional.

Agree0 Disagree4

05 Jan 2017 18:27:46
Did they actually bid £20m for him or is it just a made up story?

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2017 18:30:21
I'd be so disappointed if we sold Dembele (or any other star player) in this window or even the next?
I realise we are always going to be a selling club, but the manager and support want to see us consolidating and building on what we have to improve - not dismantling and rebuilding every 6 months or so. Silly money always talks however and the attraction of better standards of football and high wages are too hard to resist unfortunately.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2017 18:41:10
maybe lawwell will shock us and not sell dembele and actually try to build a team to do something in europe, we are sick of our best players being sold year in year out the fans showed their commitment in the summer its time their investment is used on building a team to take us to the next level in europe.

Agree6 Disagree0

05 Jan 2017 20:04:26
Celtz. How about you go back to school, take the appropriate time to learn how to read and understand what you have read before opening your mouth and letting your tummy rumble. I clearly stated that " im not suggesting for a minute. " your reply somes you up "sir"

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Jan 2017 20:05:22
Bhoys if £20 mill was bid and it was cash up front and say 10% sell on, then if BR was allowed to spend all of thst money on the squad then i would sell him. He is a good striker and will improve but is he really a £20 mill striker? don't get me wrong he is very very good but he will not match Griffiths 40 odd goals last season. I think he is better than Griff but if the money could be used to buy 4 quality players then i would do it?

Agree3 Disagree2

05 Jan 2017 20:52:17
someone on WHU site wrote a made up story about bidding for players eg MD for £20m from us.

It was a puff piece of fiction by someone just like me.

WHU haven't bid £20m for him

But yet already we have posters Crying because the club will sell him, hoping the club will sell him and posters fighting with each other over all that!

Must be a window open somewhere. its drafty and dafty!

05 Jan 2017 14:45:03
Bit harsh on Gordon PT? Apart from (1) the occasional Kung-Fu kick to the opponents head (2) getting beat at near post on the odd occasion and (3) distribution that makes Pat Bonners look and Craig as if he's got his wellies on the rang feet-I still think he's a good shot shot stopper and keeper all round. I know Ed and many don't agree but id certainly wish to recruit central midfielder to help Broonie out and a spare striker before another keeper 🍀.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

05 Jan 2017 11:16:48
I know nothing about him L7 but watched a video clip and looked a bit of a drama queen which concerned me? He is still a young laddie though. It's the way to do it a mixture of grow your own ie. KT and buying the best potential young talent-get few years out them-accept we're an excellent shop window for the EPL-then move then on with sell on clauses to make a few bob ie. VVD and Wanyama 🍀.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Jan 2017 11:39:32
I agree JFP! Wanyama and VVD's success in the Prem will only make buying from us in the future more attractive. I know this isn't ideal but if we could make the most of the inflated market there's a pretty penny to be made and hopefully re-invested in the club!

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Jan 2017 11:55:11
Agreed not ideal L7 but an excellent business model grounded in market reality. You have to hand it to Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawell et al. I think we have earned a reputation for developing and nurturing young talent and putting them in the shop window at the highest level ie. CL and that is very much Rogers bag as well. Hopefully some will stay long enough to become legends like your namesake! Starting with Dembelle! 🍀.
