I really hope Karamoko Dembele doesn't get exposed to too much too soon. We don't need to look too far to see how badly the limelight can affect a young star. He couldn't wish for a better example than Moussa Dembele tbh to show how good a club Celtic is to start and further your career in the game.

I really trust B R and our various coaches to know how to bring young Dembele through the ranks . We have a manager who has a good reputation and I feel that
B R probably knows more than us about the rate to bring Dembele through.

Too much hype / publicity . I don't think we'll get to see the bhoy if he's as good as expected an epl or bigger will tempt him away . but I don't know how long the bhoy has been here or if he was born here that might make a difference if he sees himself as local and a supporter.

I hope you're right Old Bhoy. This Bhoy Moussa Dembele has taken the long way round and come to us in order that develop his career and so far it has worked phenomenally for him. Best striker in Scotland ahead of Griffiths, which is mental!

What was, is the point of playing a thirteen year old boy, in the development team, I can't figure out if it smacks more of child abuse or some kind of publicity seeking stunt, whoever is responsible for looking at that young lads personal development needs to get a grip or get replaced asap.

Jesus aindoh way to be negative.
Child abuse? that's a tad over the top is it not?

Child abuse? What a balloon sir. No doubt you'd ban farting in public places.

Bit OTT aindoh, you would expect that any coach working at Celtic would have based the decision to play a 13 year old on how it would benefit the team that night. Child abuse? Absolute guff mate!

Aindoh I am guessing your well meaning sentiment about protecting the boy got lost in that phrase.

It is great to have a young lad with his undoubted ability on our books. It is also exciting to dream about having a potential top class player come through the youth set-up. I personally feel though that we should be cautious about adding this unnecessary weight of expectation on him. He is a 13 year old kid.

I'm sure we all know a story like this. I went to school with a boy who had the world at his feet at that age. He had physically developed quicker than the rest of us and was taller and as strong as an ox. He would score 50 a season and the scouts were beating down his parents door to sign him up. He never grew much taller after 14 and everyone dwarfed him by 17. Needles to say he never made it.

For every Michael Owen or Wayne Rooney there are hundreds, if not thousands of Freddy Adu's.

I can't help thinking about how United and Mourinho are handling Marcus Rashford at the minute. First choice under Van Gaal but Mourinho benched him at the start of the season. I realise he has been playing more regularly recently but I do think they are trying to ease him along. At 18 though it is going to be tough for them to resist the temptation to keep him in the first team given is wonderful talent.

Good luck to young Dembele and I sincerely hope we will be watching him for years to come. He looks an outstanding talent.

Drb, there was a guy on clyde 1 the nite that said his son played with him from age 5, and that he was born in England but moved to Scotland very young. he said he sees himself as 100% Scottish. Make of that what u will! It was radio clyde after all.

A think we might have shot ourselves in the foot with this guy. They're talking about him on talk sport saying he's the new Messi. then Allan Brazil pipes up and says the new jinky. If that doesn't get the vultures circling nothing will. Not to mention the pressure on the wee man.

Aindoh, If people no matter what age have a talent that captivates audiences then it shouldn't be hidden. he's not getting sent down the mines, he's playing a game that he's good at and enjoys. What next?, ban child mastermind. Kids are on tv all the time Dancing, singing you name it.

if your good at something let the world see regardless of age, gender, colour or creed. He should be celebrated, not hidden. Good education and life skills are all he requires, he's got the rest.

I seem to remember before Messi was able to sign a senior contract at Barcelona they had some sort of agreement that nobody could divulge or get any info on him before he signed some. sort of legal thing!? Remember talking about some young guy Barcelona had at the time, but other than that nobody knew anyhting about him, don't know if anyone can remember a bit clearer than me lol.

What I meant was that thirteen isn't fifteen or sixteen, what I meant was that thirteen is too young, child abuse might have been the wrong term to use, but he is still a thirteen year old boy, and I don't think he should be playing with the under twenties,

Agree1 Disagree3

05 Oct 2016 16:36:37
Aindoh maybe he was asked if he would like to play. I don't believe he was forced too. He is training with the first team as well so is that a bad thing.

The Bhoy should be left to finish school first in peace and not be burdened with the pressure of being "the next best thing" the pressure of that alone is enough to destroy the kid mentally, he's only 13, let him act like a 13 year old boy.

The reason he was called up is Celtic's development team have a backlog of fixtures and a lot of them have went away with Scotland this week, so the coach of the development team would normally ask for some players from the next level to be called up, the under 19s but they have a big game against rangers this week so were reluctant to release any of there players to the development squad.

so the coach of the development team then turned to the next level, the under 17s for some of there players of which dembele is one of there best as well as two other 15 year olds who were also on the bench, this was a special set of circumstances and it's unlikely the same set of circumstances will be repeated very often, if ever, again.

With this young Bhoy who played last night added to bhoys like Tierney oconnell and the young Bhoy who scored in the last game of last season are we finally starting to see the benefits of all the changes that Tommy burns and a few others have brought to our youth system?

I would love to see us develop more of our own players nobody would be more proud of tierney than TBA.

We need to play more of the youngsters if we want them to develop into top players.

I reckon we should have at least 1 youngster for every position and 2 senior players in each position. If one of the senior players gets injured you can bring in a youngster until he is fit.

Can remember an end of season game a few seasons back where there were a about half a dozen or so youths playing - Chris Hay and Brian McLaughlin and perhaps Barry Smith were three who played and TB was the manager. Would love to see Brendan put the young Dembele up front with a minute to go of an Old Firm game at Parkhead up against Senderos. Dembele would have 50 to 55,000 "minders" on his
side in case anything goes wrong.

Makes token appearances when the game is over and won, may satisfy some fans desire to see young players involved, however youngsters won't benefit from ten minutes at the end, they really need a wee run of games and maybe if we can get a decent lead in the SPFL Brendan Rodgers may get an opportunity to give one or two reasonable opportunities to express themselves on the pitch.

Please say you're joking stengo! Pmsl.

He seems to have taken a bit of a growth spurt since I seen that footage in the summer. He looked like a wee Gary Coleman/ Leo Messi lovechild then but didn't look that short compared to some of the u20s.

Still too early days but if he keeps it up, and is conditioned correctly, who knows. No Rangers games just yet though. Still chuckling at that idea!
