Use our rumours form to send us celtic transfer rumours.

Finally after all of this nonsense talk of Keane, Clarke and Coyle, it looks like we have our new manager - Ronny Deila. Always wanted the club to go down the route of a foreign manager again and to plump for someone that was going to bring a totally different approach and exciting style of football. Hopefully Deila is the man to do it! His track record at Stromsgodset in the last few years has been tremendous and he is also used to working within his limits and has developed a few gems in his time there, such as Stefan Johansen. Really hope our new manager receives the full backing of the support and there are hopefully some exciting times ahead for the club!

Lots of reports in the ether about the guy, all very good.Seems he favours the modern approach of pressing high when you don't have the ball and attacking quickly when you have it.

Gotta say this excites me! I think we all agreed we needed a fresh wind through the club and this guy may be it.He also seems to be a proper coach, bought Johannsen as a winger and turned him into the player we all rate in midfield.

If, as expected, he signs I would hope the stay aways get their fingers out and start turning up to give the guy a flying start.

Agree0 Disagree0

Know absolutely nothing about the guy; however there is no doubt we need a fresh perspective at Celtic from youth level right through to transfer strategy.
We are never going to attract a high profile candidate with our cash restraints and SPFL league status, so whoever gets the job will probably join us as a big step-up from his current job or experience level.
He will get my full support - as long as it's not Coyle.

As far as I am aware, we are a massive football club and indeed what would be deemed as a sleeping giant. If we could escape this p1ss poor league, we would be a major player in the European scene. We would not be content in just qualifying for the CL but would in fact be demanding at the very least, group qualification. We would have the best management team and the finest players our money could buy.
But here is the reality. We are stuck in a backwater FA, with no chance of earning the revenues we could only dream of in a top
flight league with the TV money they can demand.
But the reality is, we are linked with manager
candidates that have failed in previous jobs and are currently out of work, managers we have never heard of or young inexperienced ex players.
Sorry guys but I'm not accepting this silent stalling coming from our board. We are Celtic and our fans who work hard to pay for season books, merchandise and all the other costs associated with following this great club, expect, no DEMAND that our club installs a serious contender for our managers post. A manager who will win all domestic honours and take us forward in Europe. We need a new manager ASAP to get ready for the CL qualifiers. We need a first class manager now!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

All well and good but what's your plan if no name manager wants to come? As you say we play in a backwater in CL terms.Let's try the proper coaching and playing route eh? Our tactics last season in the CL were very poor, Ajax away being the worst.Fresh ideas and a strong coach who wants hard work.

Agree0 Disagree0

All fans of any team and sport do that Rab, pay out money on tickets etc. Hibs, Cowdenbeath, Port Vale to Real Madrid.

We are in a position to dominate Scottish football but we are miles away from Europe - this is a reality. If there is a Manager/Coach out there who can get Celtic to the last 8 of the CL then his stock will rise and he will leave for a bigger league.

We are moaning the football Celtic are playing is not attractive enough for fans, do you know how much of a luxury that position is to be in? Some fans have never seen their team win a single trophy in their lifetime yet still turn up to watch them. This is where I struggle to understand some of our fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

It really pains me to say, but we cannot attract top managers or players to the club any more.
The standard has deteriorated steadily in the last decade and the current state of our league and financial situation has hindered the attraction of Celtic.
We are a huge fish in a puddle and the current situation is tailor-made for a Board with the reputation and track record of ours. Always looking for the economy brand and never planning ahead and flourishing from a position of strength.
This should have been a momentous period in our history with little to hinder a succession of trophy clean-sweeps and re-establishing our European reputation; but hey-ho.
We are looking for yet another manager - with a job on his hands albeit a fantastic opportunity as the short-list gets shorter, by the day!

Lets be honest it's that time of the year again where we get linked to absolutely everybody, obviously with John Park being John Park we will be scouting a lot of players, but without a manager sorted yet there will be no signings. Whoever the new manager is, is going to want to come in and put his own stamp on the team, not have to suit players the board have bought, unless it's an exceptional talent.

What about a move for Brede Hangeland just been released by Fulham after their relegation.Very experienced international defender and at 32 may relish the prospect of a chance of playing Champions League football?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wouldn't mind him at celtic park but he will demand high wages.

Never heard of Ronny Delia and know nothing of the Norwegian league or how it rates. Is it the same as Scottish Premier or more Championship?

I know some wanted a foreign coach, was this what they had in mind?

I'm not sure at all

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Heard its a done deal with John Collins

Agree0 Disagree0

He's certainly what I had in mind, the only slight concern I can see is his lack of European experience

Agree0 Disagree0

It's a massive gamble in my opinion. With who is currently available how can they say this fella is the outstanding candidate for the job. I honestly can't see this happening

Agree0 Disagree0

I would imagine its a mixture of both mrs e, this will either be a master stroke by DD/PL or an absolute howler god forbid.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is a massive gamble, but at least he has won the title in the premier league in his country (and on a threadbare budget) and not been sacked for failing like the names thrown at us ie coyle, keane, etc

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Winning the Championship in England is by far a tougher task than winning the Norwegian Premier League DRB. The Norwegian league is a very poor standard of football, probably equivalent to our Championship.}

I'm thinking is it the equivalent of the job Jackie Mac did at Partick Thistle or is he bigger than this?

No doubt about the gamble - think you have it right, either a masterstroke or mega howler!

We have Champions League qualifiers in a few weeks, whoever it is needs to be on their game and attract players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Forgot to say bc2109 - John Collins?

Agree0 Disagree0

I realise that ed wasnt comparing it like for like , but as the saying in football/sports in general goes .( you can only beat what's put in front of you) . and he has taken a small club with little funds to league champs, in saying that they got pumped in the cup tonight

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - He sounds perfect - with that cup result it's like the board have found a NL clone ;) Stromsgodset have tonight refused CFC permission to talk to Deila and I'd imagine the club will be looking to get the manager's position sorted ASAP, I'm sure Pedro goes on holiday this weekend.}

I just don't know what angle Celtic are coming from here. a few bad results or even no group stages and he'll be offski, this guy won't get two years to build a team if it's going all wrong.

Agree0 Disagree0

There was always debates on who signed our players (or who had the biggest say) between park and lennon, has park seen something when scouting johanson ie deilas, team set up, tactics, the teams shape, athletisim that he liked and informed pl, if so we've got to hope park signed our good players and not the duds, also read on another site we are down to 3 names for the job is this the case?

Everton are being given the place of some ukrainian team in the champions league subject to 1 play off game. We finished as champions of our country and MUST play 3 qualifyers. I'm actually so angry I can't see straight. I hate fifa but now I actually don't want to be part of their money grubbing tournament.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - No they won't, Darren, that's garbage being made up by the English press and hit-whoring websites, if a Ukrainian team is removed then they will be replaced by another Ukrainian team, for an English team to be brought in it would need to be an English team that are ejected. And it's UEFA that run the CL, not FIFA}

Ed's right Darren mate, it'll go to the team next to them in that associations league. The way Fenerbahce have been replaced by runners up Galatasaray + 3rd place Besiktas due to the Turkish sports corruption scandal and the way Juve + Fiorentina got kicked out the competition and replaced by Inter + Roma due to Calciopoli in 2006.

Agree0 Disagree0

No country can have more than four teams in the champions league Darren.

Ed, small point. Why are they dates shown on the polls done the American way? (Month then day)
I hate this English UK and English US
Mind you I should not be surprised by a country that hosts a 'World' Series where the only participants are from Us, have a game called 'Football' where the carry the ball 90% of the time and plagiarize 'rounders' and call it baseball!

Keep up the good work though.

{Ed007's Note - I have no idea buddy, I hadn't even noticed that. Perhaps it's something to do with Ed001 & Ed033 living in Dubai now? I'll try and find out....}

Right Ed, Ronny Deila?

Del Piero has just left sydney fc. No experience but would you take him as a managerial gamble?

I wouldn't but at 39 I would take him as a gamble as a player!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Could still probably do a job as a super sub, was really dissapointed we didn't get him when he left Juve as he was one of my boyhood heroes + probably my icon growing up, but I wouldn't want him coming to us and having the usual "legend of the game" spell - ie Ian Wright, Roy Keane, Freddie Ljungberg, etc.
