Ed when are we likely to see Bayo get some game time. I know BR said he needed to work on his fitness as he hadn't played since early December but when did Burke or Weah last play competitive football before they arrived! Looking forward to seeing the big fella make an impact whe he gets the opportunity.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I don't see why we won't see him at some point, even just coming off the bench in a couple of weeks.}

01 Feb 2019 09:22:40
Ice Man I think the problem was that he hadn't been training in that time either. I'm pretty excited to see him and it'll likely be a baptism of fire with some of the games we have coming up.

A lot of people moaning about only signing players on loan but this is the sign of the times. Players don't play for the shirt anymore, its all about who will pay their overly rediculous wages. I know there is the few exceptions to the rule (tierney, brown, Mcgregor) but they are a dying breed.
Just look at the transfer window tonight 95% of the deals in england were loan deals and that's because wages pale transfer fees into insignificance.

I don't see how anyone can complain about this window - probably one of the more successful we have had in recent times:

1. Signed a RB (priority position) in Tojian
2. Bolstered attacking options (Bayo, Weah and Burke)
3. Signed a few young prospects in Shved, Perez and Gutman
4. Locked down players to new contracts, most notably Brown and Henderson
5. Sent out a few on loan for game time - Mulumbu, Morgan, Miller

The loans we have are a good temporary measure, and I would imagine Tojian could turn into a permanent deal if he impresses.

All in all, as BR said we would, we have come out of the window much stronger than we went in and the club should be praised for the good business in this window. HH.

I was convinced we wouldn't get a rb. So good window in my humble opinion. Young quick attack side to team as opposed to well. You know🤔.

01 Feb 2019 07:25:15
It's been a good window some very decent signings on loan with a point to prove. Only negative in this window is not getting rid of the likes of Compper, DDV, Allan, Benyu, Hayes, Gamboa. Shame Hendry couldn't be loaned out to develop because of Benkovics injury. Bigger window in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 10:11:58
What do people not get? Nobody is complaining about loans.

People are just frustrated we never make significant signings for key positions.

We needed a CB for about 3 years and a right back for 2.

2 years and 4 transfer windows and we get a 6 month loan.

The guy might be decent but it's not the point.

We never act early and properly in the summer which could save us so much hassle.

We have almost 50 million in the bank, there's just no reason for it.

Tesla369 are you part of the Celtic financial team, if not, how do you know what Celtic have in the bank. In reply to posters this week the Ed of this site rolled out what the yearly wage for the club was, £52m, season ticket money won’t cover that so it has to come from somewhere. On another note you maintain that the American player was AWOL and that Lawwell sent him away till the end of the transfer window, if that’s the case the he wasn’t AWOL as AWOL stands for absent without official leave. Oldkilly.

I kmow some people are unhappy with our transfers, however look at the ages of whom we have brought in. All of them are young with good potential and some loans may turn permenant. I know people wanted a new CB but we have 6 on the books. A good clear out of those who cannot make the grade is needed in the summer . Thankfully over the next 18 mouths lots of dross have contracts are finished.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2019 22:09:09
Some amount of apologetic nonsense on here for the board as usual.

No surprise. Lawwells is like Kim Jong un here.

Nobody is saying it means good loans are a bad thing, but why not also pay money and strengthen other positions

Instead come the summer while we need a clearout we will also need about 5 first team Signings.

It's not good enough and anyone telling themselves different is just insane.

Agree1 Disagree1

31 Jan 2019 22:19:11
What five first team signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 22:24:54
Tessa, take the guys we have got in on Loan for instance. Their clubs actually don't want to sell them for a kick off and most good players in good leagues probably don't want to come to Scotland full time, using the loan system we can bring players in we may not otherwise be able to.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 23:05:16
Not sure how many first team signings we’d be looking at in the summer but for me for a start I’d be looking at 2 CBS and a RB, That’s a must for me. Benkovic, boyata, Compper, lustig, gamboa will all be away I’d think, hendry I’d loan out and get more experience.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 22:59:39
Some will say future planning others will say crap signings. Us football fans are a fickle lot.3 young players signed today along with Brown signing a 2 year deal. Burke Bayo and wee Tim already in and hopefully the RB from Dortmund. That's 8 this window yet it's not good enough for some. Keep the faith🍀.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 23:11:22
Tesla I think you are the insane one sir. Do you honestly think we should be committing to adding more to our already astronomical wage bill? You're living on cloud cuckoo land if you do. Until we get at least a dozen non contributors off the wage bill this is the only way ahead. At least wait until we lose a cup tie or a league title before you whinge about the board.

Agree3 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 23:34:49
I'm sure Lustig natural position is CB is it not? Extra cover for CB if needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 00:12:23
Thank God we have an astute CEO running the club and not some of the contributers that we have on here. The loan system works to the advantage of both clubs. The mother club has the advantage of a young player who is unable to break into the first team getting first team experience at a leesser club and in our caase also getting the possibility of champions league football which helps their longterm development and prepares them for breaking into the first team. We on the other hand have a player which we could never afford. let's face it we are talking about the SPFL where, without wishing to e disrespectful to the other teams, is very much a one horse race. I don't think we can compare a spfl winners medal to a undesliga medal, seria a, la liga, EPL etc. Just as our model of buying young players to develop and sell at a profit has stood us in good stead, so to the taking of a higher class of player on loan, Perhaps we should change tactics and sign pensioners at over infflated prices. I for ne am happy with this window at least with the intake, pity we couldn't have sold a few.
with the squad now i think we have a good chance to do the treble treble which for me would even be more impressive than 10league titles in a row when you consider that not even the LIONS managed 2 in a row.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 00:19:24
The only reason we have an astronomical wage bill is because we sign. A million players at the 2mil value who turn out to be terrible.

Jonace we need a goalkeeper, 2 CBs, Right back, Winger at least.

Also Stevie don't make me laugh about winning stuff. Before they died they were doing us in the league. Won 3 in a row because our board make an A of it.

Strachan's fourth season never got him a striker. Lost the league. 3 0-0 draws when our strikers were injured.

Then rangers overtook us from then and won most of the league's until they went bust and that's just facts.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 01:08:04
Celtic puzzle me when it comes to signings they wouldn’t pay the 3million for Mcginn who Rodgers made no secret he wanted (I’m going their again with Mcginn lol)
But they have no problem spending 1.75m on Shved who Rodgers seems to know nothing about.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 06:38:34
Donjim, I don’t think many really bother about signing young upcoming talent and loaning them out getting experience and hopefully getting them into our first team, however I think people have a right to express their opinion ( might not be everyone’s opinion) but still entitled to do so. Celtic fans are entitled to look at us bringing in signings in certain areas that have required attention for long enough that enhance the first team squad right now not just in 2/ 3 years time. I’m like u, happy with the window to an extent but I would still have liked to have seen our CB situation sorted even going back to the summer. What we have now is boyata, benkovic ( Brendan’s no1 pairing ) won’t be there, Compper has never been their, hendry isn’t ready and needs loaned out, jozo is too injury prone, Ajer for me is acceptable and will have a great future. What we have now come summer is a big rebuilding job in defence. 2CBs and a RB is a must as even the German boy will no doubt go back to Dortmund. For me that’s a huge job getting that sorted plus competing to qualify for Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 08:12:14
Tesla explain to me what you would of done in the last 2 Windows? The 5 players you say we need, bearing in mind you don't seem to be prepared to shop in the 2 million bracket would cost around 30 million in transfer fees and that's if we could attract this type of player to Scotland. Their wages would be another 8 million per year and there's still no guarantee they will be a success. Add this to our current wage bill and we would be in serious financial trouble. This is Scottish football Tesla not FIFA 19.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 10:02:19
Telsa is clearly delighted with the £75k superstar from Dundee Glen Kamara😂😂😂😂😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 10:18:04
Stevie we have 50 million in the bank.

I'd have signed a CB and RB permanently.

What you also don't seem to get is being ambitious in football can earn you money.

For example if we signed a RB and CB 2 years ago like we needed to then we most likely beat AEK and earn £40mil plus from the champions League.

Instead of having the likes of Hendry playing.

That's just common sense though, but I forgot unless you say everything positive about Celtic then you must be a rangers fan then eh malky?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 20:42:34
So it seems we will be bringing the RB from Dortmund, looks really good as can play both flanks.

So of the four signings we have made, one won't get the opportunity to play against Valencia as we can only add 3 to the squad.

It's a tough one but I'd probably leave out Weah as I'd prefer Bayo to be playing and scoring as he ours.

Thoughts lads?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2019 21:15:37

{Ed007's Note - They've done away with cup-tied rules in Europe, Rich but they'll probably bring them back in the UK after Brexit.}

31 Jan 2019 22:40:27
For me I would leave Bayo out as not upto speed but that depends on us getting the rb deal over the line.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2019 00:44:46
I may be wrong but as weah is only 18 or 19 does he not qualify for the b list meaning all 4 can be registered just a thought.

Guys
If Toljan is confirmed that'll be SEVEN we have brought in this month. OK some are loans and a few won't join up until later but nevertheless let's stop giving our great club pelters about transfer activity. Remember that some players don't want to come to Scotland, that's the way it is so even if we are prepared to pay decent money for a decent player the chances are they'll say no. What do some people expect us to do? Are we going to kidnap them? HH.

Why so many against loans to me if we’re paying a wage and they do a turn I’m a happy bhoy.
Benkovic prime example wanted him couldn’t afford him but got him on loan here’s a scenario we buy him he does well for a season and pub league team wants him for mad money he goes sad to see him go but money too much to turn down. That’s the markets we’re in but we’re getting better players than what we can afford. IMO keep it going players come and go but records stay 10 i a r for me is the be all and end all loan players permanent signings I don’t care as long as when they wear the hoops they give their all.

And 10 IAR it doesn't matter how we get there as long as we do 🍀💚 HH.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 22:59:11
This has been one of the busiest and productive 'January windows' for a long time and we have covered most positions - and then some.
The emphasis on loans was the only option as we have already accrued such a bloated squad, including excess baggage who seem very hard to shift - for the time being anyway.

The club are enjoying one of the finest periods in our history and the additions give us plenty of options to achieve our objectives and this display of support and prompt action from the Board should give us all encouragement for any future transfer windows.

There will be several players leaving in the summer, but we have six months to prepare, evaluate and act accordingly. Hail Hail
Thanks Ed 007 as usual for all your time, patience and effort during another hectic window - despite a chest infection, severe leg pain and a troll infestation lol.

Think I'd seriously consider offering Ambrose a short-term gig if we haven't got an RB coming in. Wouldn't like to rely on him at CB I think. But he's had a great run at Hibs and left a lot of disappointed fans.

Am I losing it?

Good shout Calvalcanti. I’ve been quite vocal in the past about not bringing players back but Ambrose is one of the few I’d make an exception for. Does anyone else think it strange Lewis Morgan going out on loan? I thought pre season he looked excellent, I hope he gets a fair chance at the start of next season I think he could do a great job.
Also what's happening with Kouassi? I again thought he looks good when he plays, not startling but he never gets a chance to have a bit on continuous game time to develop further, what's your thoughts?

We have been crying out for a strong defender for ages with no one coming in.
The club announce Broony signing (last day of transfer window) . Is it a wee deflection move to ease the failure of not bringing in a defender?
Not paranoid and I think we have enough to walk this league. I have no doubt we have been rejected by a few targets. Just a thought.

31 Jan 2019 19:30:24
My thoughts exactly CB no way was he leaving it at that and the next two years will be payback time for Broony. He’ll still be younger then than Defoe is just now when he assumes his rightful position with our coaching staff in two years time. The Australian deal financially would have been the better option for him but his heart has ruled his head which says it all. But what did the LOYAL Davis do?

Even if we don't snatch a last minute defender - panic-ye-not.
We have seen the variety that Burke and Weah offer in attack and with KT, Rogic, Griff and Eddy all coming back very soon and they will be like new signings - along with Ntcham who resumes training next week, plus we have Bitton back who covers a few positions.

We have landed a great Russian wing prospect and tied-up Broony for another two years as skipper.
Therefore, the only problem BR might have will be who to leave out on match-days?

There has been a huge improvement in our play since the much-needed break and Bain is doing brilliant. I appreciate we are using several loan players and others will leave in the summer; but let's worry about that when/ if it happens.

According to 'Chic the Dick' all Celtic fans are worrying about the title challenge this season?!

We have stretched to a 6 point gap in the three games after the break and have every chance of making it more; game by game.

Personally I'd prefer it was open all year round so save ourselves from Jim White and his yellow tie if nothing else. Cheers.

What did you vote ed 🤣.

{Ed007's Note - I voted for one window in the summer and I'd have it only open between 1st of June and 31st of July.}

31 Jan 2019 15:45:14
All year round, edd would just love at! Lol nah 2 windows summer and January is fair enough. because if it was only a summer window we would only have 1 striker probably for the rest of the season and he’s just returned from injury.

If we had an all year transfer system, how would Pistol Pete be able to claim that we ran out of time again.

I think all year round is the way it should be, as it's the way it is in any other line of employment.

Detest the whole transfer window and the panty wetters that talk constant pish throughout it.

Sky’s coverage is cringe, there’s been no big transfers to talk about this window so sky are struggling to fill up their airtime . They just make up rumours to fill their spots and go to some random reporter to see if he can peep in a window to see if somethings going on.
I’d love to see it all go pop for them, even more so that it would be the end of the person slime ball Jim white.

So it looks like another piss poor transfer window without getting in what we actually need a cb and a rb. didn't Rodgers say our team would be a lot better for when valencia came calling.

As an auld bhoy that saw some really hard and lean times in the early 60's, mid 70's, 80's and 90's and long periods of no European football; entering tournaments like the Texaco Cup and Anglo-Scottish Cup:- this is one of the best periods of success and good football we have seen - and it's still continuing.
There will always be positions we shoulda/ coulda strengthened, but the players we currently have are not really doing such a bad job - are they really? and our attacking players are a joy to watch.
'Always look on the bright side' fellow Tims.

Away and boil yer heid if you think this was a poor transfer window for us.

May I suggest the problem is your expectations and in future you would enjoy things more if you were to temper them with a touch of realism.

Couldn’t agree more OAB. Going by some of the comments I’ve seen, if some of the our younger fans had been around in previous era’s, I doubt they’d even follow the club.

Well we've brought in potentially an excellent striker we've strengthened the wide areas we've bought a winger for next year which will balance out losing the 2 loans so for me it's been ok. we've come out it stronger as long as we don't lose anyone between now and 11 tonight. but would like a rb signed before midnight.

When Abraham Lincoln said "You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all of the time" he definitely wasn't thinking about Celtic supporters during a transfer window.
For me irrespective of who comes in or who goes out the fact that many of our more consistent players have signed extended contracts with most recently young Henderson and our Captain, coupled with the fact that young Dembele has entrusted his imediate future to us and hasn't followed the example of that great "disppearing talent" Feruz has all been a great bit of business for us. On top of that to hear Weah speak of us as a family and Burke want to extend his loan after only a couple of weeks gives an idea of the atmosphere in our "boyd-divided" locker room. I think it's not so easy to find players willing to come who are of the quality required and who will not only play well for the team but will also maintain the harmony which exists.
I really cannot see how we will fail to do a treble treble unless we have a one off bad game in the cup.

Seriously though, great post, totally agree about trying to get quality players to come to SPFL. in Brendan We Trust.

31 Jan 2019 09:31:22
No I'm not Peter but I wouldn't be as big a critic of him as many on here. I look at the last three years and I see an invincible year, back to back trebles with a good chance of making it a treble treble this year and I think if Peter had released funds to sign Messi and Ronaldo and mayde to bring back Virgil would we honestly have won any more than that. Champions League, possibly, but then again if you look at PSG and the money they have spent does anyone really believe that you can buy the Champuons League.
In Brendan we trust but I also happen to trust the man who gave us Brendan even if that's not a popular position.

We have done ok in the transfer window . We have a couple in who are far better than we could buy . We have 7/ 8 players out injured, but have won al our January games easing up and usually v pleasing on eye .
I am happy enough with club actually spending very little as there is no point in the club spending £8-10m on a couple players we are not really sure we really want even if they are positions we want to fill, we cannot buy them until we have properly scouted them, short cuts in this department can lead to Commper .
We know it is easier to buy poor players than to move them on.

The game tonight was a tough shift but 3 points is all that matters. Jozo and Ajer looked solid which was nice to see but unfortunately Lustig's performance only highlighted that we desperately need younger legs at RB. Defensively he was fine but going forward was often slow and ponderous. I look forward to a day of trying to separate the minimal truth from the endless bollocks tomorrow lol.

Kev was that sarcasm because lustig 2 assists for the goals.
Jesus what else can he do?
Help keep a clean sheet and set up both goals in a 2-0 win and he's still slated.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 07:15:22
McGregor and Christie created their goals themselves imo but Lustig did pass to both of them beforehand. I didn't say he had a bad game either, just that going forward he's too slow. He received the ball on the right side so many times and didn't go forward when there was space ahead to exploit.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 07:15:38
Oh and to top it off that was his 7th assist of the season in all competitions. Making his joint top of the assist charts for our team.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 07:56:37
Agreed. I think Lustig had a great game. His delivery was excellent. Unfortunately against better opponents he now struggles and that's why we need a new RB.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 09:22:10
And that's the point he struggles against decent opponents he has no pace and when he's getting a hard time more often than not he gets a wee niggle and has to go off. He's been a terrific servant but old father time waits for no man.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 10:40:43
I was at the game and watched with my own eyes Lustig consistently picking up the ball, trapping it and playing a square pass because he doesn't have the legs to go by a man and down the line. I will reiterate - he didn't play badly, he had a good game. However he no longer has the legs to be our first choice RB IMO. At times when he had caught up with the attacking play his delivery into the box was good, yes but his 2 assists were basic passes which the players brilliantly turned into chances.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 13:54:32
Kevboy you must have taken long toilet breaks during game . Lustig' set up the two goals last night not bad for someone who was slow and ponderous going forward .

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 16:18:53
You might be better watching him with someone else’s eyes next time.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2019 17:35:46
He was slow last night because he doesn't have pace. That's one of the main reasons almost every Celtic fan has been desperate for a new RB this whole window! He also didn't set up either goal by any stretch of the imagination regardless of whether he's been credited 2 assists on paper. He had a good game but doesn't have the legs that we need down that right side to compliment the pace and power Tierney brings to the left.
