my mate works for sly and he's just after texting to say that Hooper has just started watching Back to the Future 2 which he sly plussed the other week. Looks like he's anchoring in for the night

Believable3 Unbelievable3

If he watches back to the future 2 he'll have to watch number 3 too. He's here for the long haul.

I know people might shoot me down here but I think it's an absolute joke that we haven't signed anyone maybe except for a keeper. We Celtic fans have stuck by our team got the juve game sold out within a couple of hours and what do we get a failed loan for Kevin Doyle. Where is the Celtic boards ambition?

Believable5 Unbelievable12

We signed Gershon and Rogic! But you probably didn't know that being from the darkside.

Briggs

Agree9 Disagree4

There's also Rogic & we haven't sold anyone.

I think their ambition's the last 16 of the CL

Mrs E

Agree8 Disagree4

Thought we signed 3 this window. TTTS

Agree4 Disagree2

Don't worry mate you can't win! It's always better to strengthen when infront. But Celtic don't really think like that. On the plus side, we've got the strongest side for a good while ( for SPL) Europe is a bonus so no real need to do anything! If come the summer when hooper and pos/prob Wanyama leave and we don't spend considering they 2 sales +ki + champs lg money then major questions should be asked!

Bigbadjohn

Agree1 Disagree1

Their ambition is demonstrated by the fact that Hooper, Wanyama and the rest are staying at least until the summer. We have a huge squad and in my opinion I would like to have seen some of the fringe players leaving. My disappointment is that that teams like Norwich, no disrespect to them, are able to offer multi million pound deals for our players which we are not able to match despite our success in the CL. and having one of the best supported teams in the world. This is not a criticism of Peter Lawwell, who I trust implicitely with the financial management of Celtic.

Agree5 Disagree2

Why do we need to sign anyone? We're guaranteed the top flight title for the foreseeable future. However qualifying for the cl group stages is less certain, meaning limited income, certainly compared to this season. I hope I'm wrong on that front. However take note of QPR and their spending spree this window. If they get relegated I can't see them surviving. Compare both sides this time next year.

Agree1 Disagree3

I guess you forget being from the dark side that our current club beat the best in the world and secs from a draw in the nou camp, not to mention other big clubs.

Agree2 Disagree3

@5 - how many bids did we receive for Wanyama?

What was the idea of the half-hearted 'loan' bid for Kevin Doyle at the very last minute? Embarrassing! -
Both the attempt and the player in question.
If Lennon wanted another strike option why leave it so late and why a tentative loan bid for a man with such a poor goals record?
He has managed to keep the current squad intact which is great - as long as we don't have to play at Hampden again. . Wooooooo!
Ok; it's late and I'm in sarcy mode.

Great news Neil you've managed to keep hold of a player that refuses to sign a new deal and only has 18 mths left on his contract. Norwich offered 7 million with bonuses on appearances, so now we risk keeping him injury free and try to get maybe 4 million for him in the summer, he served Celtic well but no player is bigger than the club and Celtic are a selling club Peter should huv bit the hawn aff them fur 7 million {Ed007's Note - Norwich did not bid anywhere near £7 million for Hooper.}

Believable2 Unbelievable7

I wish somebody would explain to me how we are a selling club,,,,, deep river bhoy

Agree3 Disagree2

I really couldn't care less if he goes for nothing. We have got our money's worth and then some, and Gary has received great exposure. Just because a player is nearing the end of a contract doesn't mean we need to sell. We don't have to sell players for more than we paid to be able to say they were a good signing. If and when Gary Hooper leaves, be it to England or retirement, he'll be able to do so with his head held high.

Melb Bhoy

Agree3 Disagree2

Buddy the transfer window just closed and Hooper is still a Celtic player so Peter Lawwell has just proved we are not a selling club. End of story mate

Agree3 Disagree2

Wait until July and then decide.
We have merely obtained a 'stay of execution' for Wanyama, Hooper, Forster and maybe more. So we had better make the most of the next 5 months while this team is together.
Playing in the SPL - no matter how many re-shuffles - with limited TV money/wages can't compete with the epl; even with our fantastic history and traditions and unique CL nights.
It saddens me that players are using my team as a stepping stone for their wealthy ambition (plus agents cut).
Because most of them couln'ae lace the boots of the great players that wore the hoops with pride.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

31 Jan 2013 21:26:29
Anyone think that if Hooper stays, he will then be made a top earner with a new contract?

Believable1 Unbelievable6

No really. Hoopers not going anywhere now, his improved terms will be removed from the table, so will play for his wages that he's on till the summer, which is more likely when he'll leave, poss £5 mil max! If he signs a new deal in between then, on improved terms, it will raise his transfer fee again which could price himself out of a move! He wants out to play at a higher level, if Celtic offered him 30 bags of sand a week he'd still not sign! Celtic will sell in the smer before he can get a pre contract.

Can't understand a Scottish club saying no to 9.5 million, does not make sense even and highly unlikely if celtic do beat juventas we won't go any further that money keeps celtic viable! {Ed007's Note - They didn't say no to anywhere near that amount.}

Believable0 Unbelievable5

There was never a bid for that amount! If Norwich follow that up with a statement? It's only to make it look to their own fans that they were making an effort! Norwich will be happy with the 2 strikers they got and hooper is a smokescreen ( given the latest numbers stated)

What Chico is actually saying is that no football club can be finished by liquidation. But in the UK every football club liquidated was finished. Why should it change now?
Rangers founded 1872 and incorporated in 1899 was not saved by a CVA and finished. Not the company but the CLUB which WS an incorporated entity.

Believable10 Unbelievable2

Chico's position totally nullifies the CVA process. Why bother offering a CVA when you can claim to own a football club after a CVA to save the club failed!

Nobody should ever bother with a CVA.

It turns insolvency law upon its head.

Verdict due as Gers hearing ends
31 January 2013 Updated 16:45
The Scottish Premier League's independent commission tasked with assessing Rangers players' contracts has finished its three-day hearing.
The commission will decide if the company that formerly ran the club broke Scottish Premier League rules.
Rangers' use of employee benefit trusts between 2000 and 2011 is the focus of the enquiry.
In a statement, the SPL said the three-man panel "will issue a full written decision in due course".

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I'm really getting tired of this TV channel writing. . "company that formerly ran. . . " As its sympathetic to CGs ridiculous stance.

Agree6 Disagree1

Well they have to find them totally innocent of wrongfully registration of players (no chance) or they have to find them guilty with the 3-0 default in every game they played in. Which results in withdrawing titles.
Then there needs to be a suitable punishment.

There's no partial guilt middle ground where they get a slap on the wrist.

David Beckham reveals he will donate his PSG salary to a children's charity in Paris.

Great gesture by Becks. He doesn, t need the money so it's good children are going to benefit from his 5 months at PSG.

Jungle Bhoy.

Believable11 Unbelievable2

Wow, good on him!

Agree5 Disagree0

Amazing gesture mate. In an age when money is the be all and end all of most of the players universe's this really is something Sly Sports should genuinely go on and on and on about.

I never like Beckham in his early days at Man Utd, even less so when he steriotypically shacked up with a spice girl and his every hair cut made the front page of the papers but since he left Manchester United and after he was told Real Madrid weren't renewing his contract he has grown on me. He went on to play a blinder that season and Real Madrid won the title back cue the Real hierarchy humbly having to backtrack and kiss the guy arse to stay at the Bernabeu. . He politely told them to shove it and true to his word went to the MLS and without a shadow of a doubt he has raised the profile of the game there.

I think its a measure of how much of a superstar the guy is when at now 37 years of age, today he is the biggest story on deadline day, amusingly ahead of the primadonna who has just landed back in Milan true to form causing a fuss, walking about restaurants with the head of the Milan ultra's. (before anyone asks how I know who the guys with him are, i've met the small gentleman with the sports glasses through a Milan supporting friend while over there for a game)

Well played Becks

Agree4 Disagree0

No really a fan of his as a player, but he is a genuine family man who seems to do a lot for children/charity. Well Done!

JJ

Agree4 Disagree0

Very over rated as a player for me but a really decent human being. I have mates in Manchester who have told me some of the stuff he has done for Charity for years. Wonderful gesture pity more Millionaires don't seem to have the humility this guy has. . . . . . . green jhedi

Agree4 Disagree1

Every fotoballer seems to copy him - clothes, hair, sleeve tattoos. . .
maybe now they will all fancy being 'philanthropists' (if most could even pronounce it never mind spell it!) and be seen to give some of their ridiculous wages to 'charity mate' -. . cue Harry Enfield Smashy and Nicey voice for those old enough to remember.
Great gesture by Beckham by the way. . . . kbt1978

Agree1 Disagree0

Big deal, not as if he needs the money he just made £125m in America. Why release that information and not just do it on the QT? It reeks of self importance from a guy with a big ego and who wants to be the centre of attention.

Briggs {Ed007's Note - He still didn't need to do it though Briggs, he announced it so that he wasn't accused of just going to PSG for the mega-money they could have paid him plus look at the free world-wide publicity the charity is getting because of him. #
In this day and age with clowns like Barton, Balotelli, Tevez kicking around he has shown a decent side to footballers, as I said, he really didn't need to do it all.}

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Feb 2013 01:20:02
Not a big fan of him or his wife, but bloody good on him. He didn't need to do it. Just wonderful. Huge boost to charity. Maybe others will follow suit? Not that they need to, but when you've made as much money as some of them have, it gets difficult to spend it all. I'd assume ha! {Ed007's Note - That was one of the reasons we never signed Bellamy F/T. A certain percentage of his wages automatically goes to charity and we couldn't afford a deal that fitted with that. A lot of players do give to charity, and a lot more money than people like me or you could ever afford. Charity is charity though, what ever you give is appreciated and means a lot. I just think it is different from reading the usual stories about players.}

Just been on the SPL website and they are saying that they will release a statement on the outcome of there inquiry into the oldco's cheating in due course. what's wrong with today have they not had enough time, getting a bad feeling. Ticman

Believable4 Unbelievable3

Don't worry, sporting integrity will be upheld. Anything else is disastrous for football in Scotland and all fans will stop attending in protest.

Agree4 Disagree1

Thats means its not guilty mate. They have reserved they're judgement and will issue a full written decision in due course.

I think they are trying to give the impression that they thought long and hard about it and deliberated over it for a while before surrendering to the demands of the peepul.

Its the place we live in buddy. It won't change in either of our lifetimes.

Agree3 Disagree2

Aparently, they want to put it in writing first. I was reading paul mcconnvilles blog today on this subject. he says they will not be stripped of titles, but will be fined. it's all above my head, I don't understand much of what he explained, don't shoot the messenger. . shammy

Agree1 Disagree1

Shammy; They have to be stripped of titles it is very clear the punishments incurred for breaking registration rules. A 3-0 defeat for each offence. They can't fine them as they don't exist any more, anything else and we will know the game is finished in this Country. . . . green jhedi

Agree3 Disagree0

In civil law cases the judgement is never given that day and is always given in writing some time later

Agree1 Disagree0

They have to be stripped of titles. Each game played with an illegally registered player is forfeited 3-0. So over 11 years of over thirty players it negates their results. They could be fined as a punitive measure in addition to setting the record straight. Stripping titles isn't punishment in itself, that's simply taking the stolen goods back off the thief, thereafter the thief needs punished.

Agree2 Disagree0

Jhedi, I wouldn't argue mate. like I say i'm not legal minded. just telling you what mcconnville says, and he's a lawyer. but fingers crossed you are right. shammy

ED007/Green Jhedi did you see "leg of lamb" latest rumblings about boycotting the Daily Record?
This great institution that gave us Jabba with his daily Rangers news bulletins.
They really are deluded and love their boycotts, but the bit I think should be looked at by the appropriate authorites is his naming of 2 of the senior managers of the paper, then glibly says "nobody should attempt to get in touch either by email or other media" knowing fine well that once people are named they automatically can become targets for the clowns. Timalloy

Believable5 Unbelievable1

4th bid from Norwich for Hooper, I hope PL doesn't buckle under pressure! I think we're too late to find an adequate replacement. Would be delighted if we managed to get Charlie Austin though. .

I sincerely hope we have a class replacement already in the door IF this goes though later today.
But if Hooper would have made a public commitment to Celtic - even until the summer this late speculation would have been avoided IMO.

Is there anything Pinochio ever said was true? Players who refused to join glinty's new club after old rangers died were within their rights not to TUPE over. Their QC stated CG was knowingly making wrongful statements. Spot on! But not just about TUPE. Naismith and others said it wasn't the same club.

So he said he bought the players from administrators Duff & Phelps. Which he clearly did not. What else did he claim to buy that he did not? History and titles? You can't buy those.

The players were players for the old club and legally tied to the old club. They never were players for the new club and this has been proven as so. The old rangers were still in the SPL when the new Rangers applied to get in, therefore its impossible for both clubs to be one and the same club.

Don't know about anyone else but I'm quite heartened the we find ourselves in such a decent place that we can afford to turn down bids of £6/7 mill for our top players, shows people we don't NEED to sell and take the first offer from the pl as in the past we may have done, I think PL and NL are doing a great job taking our great club forward and making inroads into Europe, what's others thoughts on this

There is no doubt we are a very well run club with a very sound financial core, allowing us to turn down high offers for Hooper and fend off other enquiries.
But the real test is the Summer window and it appears we will lose Hooper and Vic and who knows which others?
To be perfectly honest I am more upset and concerned with the amount of trophies we have literally thrown away than financial matters.

I think PL & NL know we have a really great chance of making the last 8 and by keeping our team together , by refusing to sell just indicates their desire to go as far as we possibly can . if and when big offers are made ( SUMMER ) & I mean big offers then and only then should we accept, we are in no hurry . personally I think juventus won't be too happy playing us with a full house & and a FULL TEAM , what you think ?

Punt lassad and get big Sheridan, he won every header last night, would be good in a team that gave him decent service

Hi Ed, do you know if Celtic are looking to bring any more players in before the deadline tomorrow? Any possible rumours?

Bhoys & Ghirls Garry hooper is defo going nowhere this window he also wants to stay but celtic won't give him the same as the top earners I know this is fact, this came for from Gary's dad Gary hooper also .the do want to stay but realises he can get a lot more down south were he is fromhe has done a great job 4 us but only wants a wage to make him par with top earners . Ed what have you heard about who he is going to in summer I know he was always staying till then my friend is off to Turin with his father Gary . Have heard he will be getting over 50k a week from his next club from another players father down south Jordan Henderson s father Brian.

Believable1 Unbelievable7

Sorry but that sounds like nonsense. How would Hendersons dad know what Hooper would earn? Did he mention what club he would be going to? I assume he knows if he knows his wage level. . . . . .green jhedi

Nl said in any interview that they afford him a pay that would put him in top 3 earners of the club not to long ago sounds like bull your spitting
