just like 2 say first time posting
regards game against rangers if we had played wee Mac in midfield I honestly think we would have won
rest of the team were poor on the day but that's the best rangers could have possibly played they are a total shambles of a team had we started with our strongest team maybe without Brown or maybe with nchan then we would have without a shadow of doubt won easy.

Saturday was the first festive defeat against the old rangers club and new club sevco combined since 1997.
The defeat was most remembered for another honest mistake when Cadette got a perfectly good goal chopped off. 21 years later and referees still all for "anyone but Celtic ".
In that time Celtic won 5 times and 4 draws.
All the best for 2019.

Cheers Welshy and a Happy 2019 to you, my fellow posters and the invaluable Ed 007 when it arrives in a few short hours.
I have met with several Sevconian relatives over the last two days and although they are delighted with their team and the current league table, they are all too aware that it's far from over and Celtic still hold all the cards - or that's what they say to my face.
Very Best wishes to all of you COYBIG.

A happy new year to everybody on the site. I enjoy reading all the different opinions and whether I agree with those opinions or not, I know that the people airing those views have Celtic at heart and that is what matters.
Good luck to ED007, and thanks for making the site so enjoyable.

I think a complete overhaul of the first team squad is long overdue, for me i would release:

Lustig
Comper
Hendry
Gamboa
Allen
Bitton
Sinclair

These guys are either offering nothing or are nowhere near getting on the pitch. I could be wrong but apart from Hendry are all the others contracts not up and the end of the season?

Theres also the Boyata situation, I would sell in January while his stock is still high from the world cup.

Obviously we need replacements, especially at Right Back, Centre Half, wide left and up font.

Getting rid of the deadwood should free up wages and allow 3 or 4 quality signings to kick on in the New Year.

January should be interesting!

31 Dec 2018 15:35:36
See I still think there is a player in Scott Allen he needs a chance he’s done well when on loan he just needs to be given a chance.

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 15:38:01
With new players required to improve us in several positions (1) are they available in the January transfer window? (2) can we get them? and (3) will they gel together and cut it on the park? After that display I think we’re deluded if we don’t think we’ve got a genuine title challenge on our hands. I’d like to think deals for new players are already done and dusted as we’ve known what’s needed since our last transfer windae was panned in.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 16:10:27
Again total bull about Sinclair offering nothing in the park.
Top goal scorer for the last 2 seasons.
Top assist maker for the past two seasons

3rd tip goal scorer this season already.
Over 50 goals scored in 2 and a 1/ 2 seasons.
He's not contributing?
Fecking nonsense.

31 Dec 2018 16:43:33
I must be deluded JFP. This is the closest the league will be until it is wrapped up with a minimum of 3 games to spare. We made the mistake in the summer of not strengthening certain positions but guess what we're still top of the league despite losses to Hibs Hearts Killie and the Sevies. Don't believe the hype with the Sevies, their points total this season isn't much better if at all than it was last season. Only last week many of their own were screaming for Stevie G to be sacked. The 29th was the be all and end all to them, their cup final, they were desperate and unfortunately wanted it more after going 12 games against us and taking many hammerings in that time, it is the nature of the fixture and has been proven many times over the years that the team that hasn't had a victory for a length of time has more motivation. We will strengthen this window and with the first trophy of the season already in the bag have a great chance of an unprecedented 3rd treble in a row. HH.

Not been posting much recently, however I couldn’t sit back and let this nonsense go unchallenged- to mention Sinclair in with that crowd beggars belief.
Great follow up post kev.
Fair play it is Hogmanay- maybe you’ve started early Martin.

All the best for the bells boys

Also very sorry to hear about your loss mcgarvey - keep your chin up.

31 Dec 2018 17:04:14
To even mention biton is mental IC. If it wasn't for his injury he'd have played a lot in my opinion.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 17:12:32
Sinclair is just off the back of a hat-trick at one of the hardest venues on the card and although the whole team looked jaded and under performed at Ibrox, the team had just completed the most difficult December schedule possibly plotted by the 'random fixture computer', retained the League Cup and progressed to the last 32 of the EL.
Of course we need to trim the squad substantially - if only to stop paying players for feck-all, plus 'retire' the few that have seen their best days come and go; but we need real quality right through the spine of the team and I reckon we will recruit, rest and recover so as to tackle 2019 with determination, focus and professionalism.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 17:15:01
Island Celt and Kev agreed nae idea why Sinclair is included in suggested list of departures. Stevie hope your right ma friend I’m not buying the hype and don’t think their any great shakes but that performance leaves me concerned as does our tactics. We’re agreed we need to strengthen and bringing a number of players in is always a bit of a lottery. I’d also have liked to hear Brendan say aye the team were pants but I made a horses arse of it as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 17:44:04
I think Sinclair still offers something and maybe biton as well, however the squad is so full of players who are never going to be regular starters or even be someone you could look to bench to change things.
Malumba
Benyu
Kouasi
Hendry
Izzy
Comper
Lustig
De Vries (still there? )
Alan
Hayes
Gamboa

On top of that we have boyata and benkovic leaving at end of season, brown about finished and Griffiths been in and out for 18 months due to physical injuries and now indefinitely with his latest problem.

There is a massive rebuilding job needing done and it has to start this window.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 17:52:15
10 I would disagree about kouassi because I think there is a player there who again would have played more if not injured.
I would try sending him out to killie or the dons to see how he does.
Malumba I thought would have played more but if he ain't in plans let him go.
The rest I think have no value to our squad.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 17:53:13
I also disagree a massive rebuild is needed.
Just some key areas need strengthened.

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 17:56:29
9 of the players above were signed by BR and I agree they are nowhere near good enough. I settle for a decent CF on loan and a permanent RB if we can get rid of some deadwood.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed0333's Note - now there’s a surprise BR buying players of inadequate quality.

31 Dec 2018 21:37:43
Agree with Rich T I also think there is a player in Allen. Also can't understand why Sinclair is on that list but agree with the others on the list. Has to be noted also that I think BR made a mistake allowing Sviatchenko to leave, its not just the players he has signed that has let him down but allowing Sviatchenko to leave was also a poor decision in the transfer market by BR imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 23:48:31
Allen was never good enough.
We sent a better player to hibs on loan in young Henderson.

Appears to be a bit of distain putting Sinclair on the original list.

Firstly I like Scott Sinclair, have met him and he's a gentleman but there is no place for sentiment in football, his performances are well below what is expected at Celtic. I am willing him to get back to the level of his first couple of seasons but it just isn't happening! Yes he has scored 9 goals this year, 3 of them are penalties along with the 3 at Aberdeen, but a good game every now and then is not acceptable.

Had also forgot about Kouassi and Benyu - can safely add them to the list as well along with Hayes and Izzy - the amount of deadwood is shocking!

Would love Scotty Sinclair to prove me wrong by the way!

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jan 2019 23:33:37
Rich T, you serious about Scott Allan? How longs he been at Celtic now? 3 years or so? I’m sorry but he’s just one of a number of players that have contributed absolutely nothing during the course of his contract, and when you look through the squad list at Celtic Park there is so many sitting there on decent wages in the exact same position as him. While bringing in new recruits is essential, getting rid of the deadwood is equally as important. We must be spending thousands upon thousands week, month, yearly on guys that are contributing absolutely nothing. That needs addressed ASAP.

Despite the painful loss I'm actually looking forward to the second half of the season for the first time in years. An exciting league and European football. I think the current tightness in the league will focus the minds and have a positive impact in the Europa. Bring it on!

Without being privy to what is going on behind the scenes, it looks to me like Scott Brown is not happy at Celtic just now and this can be the reason for his drop in performance.

My guess is that he would like to stay at Celtic but the board (possibly sanctioned by Rodgers) are not giving him the terms he wants. As we all know your commitment to a job diminishes when you have problems with the hierarchy at work.

Personally I would like to see him stay as he still has much to offer us on the field but time will tell.

I have just read the posts from all the new posters on here and almost to a man they are all so negative and moaning about everything. One defeat and they are ready to concede our title, what bunkum.
Yes we played badly, yes Rodgers tactics were baffling to say the least and yes Sevco stepped up to the plate, which they had to do. yes our away form in 2018 has been terrible at times, but I am confident after the winter break we will come back stronger with hopefully some decent signings and a re energised Celtic team and Manager. hail hail.

Timalloy

Do you actually watch Celtic. One defeat you are joking. Hibs turned us over 2 weeks ago with Rodgers getting the tactics wrong and the team playing brutal. Ever away game this season apart from the odd couple we have been poor.

Agree4 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 10:14:49
I reckon the turning a blind eye to the heavy handed tactics by the referee and linesmen allowed them to set the tone. Morelos committed 4 red card offences and I saw Goldson rugby tackle one of our players to the ground, to name but a few incidents.

But as you rightly point out it is a blip and I expect us to kick on after new year.

Bang on Timalloy. Between the entitled and the zombies in disguise, you’d think we were mid table having won nothing for seasons. It’s hard to read some of the pish that’s posted on here at times but sometimes you’ve just got to laugh at it cos it barely warrants a response.

It's modern day Tim and COYBIG, there's no middle ground nowadays with some, if we win we're world beaters if we lose we're an embarrassment and players should never be allowed to pull on the hoops again. There's definately a sense of entitlement amongst a lot of posters on here and it does my box in. I don't mind after a defeat a bit of criticism, but some of the comments border on insane. Possibly a lot of the new names you see pop up after a defeat are over ecstatic Zombies but a lot of them are our own. God help us all when we eventually don't win a treble. 😲.

I think these stats are accurate.
In the first half of the season Celtic have played 24 games in Scotland between league and league cup.
We have had 2 players sent off Boyata for arguing with John Beaton and a deserved red card to Ntcham v St Mirren.
Incredibly we have only played against 10 men once in 24 matches in Scotland.
The 1 red card was given to Swanson of St Johnstone who had no complaints.
I have seen a pattern developing with the stop the 10 union, with controversial decisions given against Celtic on a monthly basis.
Starting in August, Naismith kicked out at Hayes, who was grounded. Ref John Beaton missed the incident with the linesman also looking on.
Compliance officer-not guilty.
In September sevco keeper kicked out at Ajer, missed by Willie Collum.
Compliance officer-not guilty.
In October v Hearts semi final.
Maclean indecently assaulted Kouassi.
He was spoke to by ref Willie Collum.
Compliance officer-2 match ban.
In November away to Livingston
Dolly Menga struck Christie with his head.
He was spoke to by ref Kevin Clancy.
Compliance officer- 2 match ban, misses sevco game.
In December home to Aberdeen.
McKenna has a 2 footed lunge at waist high on Edouard missed completely by ref Bobby Madden.
Compliance officer- 2 match ban.
Also December away to sevco.
Morelos has 4 separate off the ball incidents, all missed by ref John Beaton.
Compliance officer- pending.
In summary the stop the 10 union are out in force and it will only get worse the closer we get to 10 in a row.
Keep The Faith.

It's all there if you look closely enough and just ask Timalloy about the red-card and penalty 'doubles' he's cashed-in on in Sevco games.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 12:49:01
Was it not a panel that found them not guilty after the compliance officer dug them up?

Agree1 Disagree0

31 Dec 2018 13:59:33
Apart from 3 of morelos attacks on our players, all those incidents are in the first half of the matches with the games sitting at 0-0.If the referees had not turned a blind eye we would have had a big advantage with the majority of the game still to play.
We went on to lose 1-0 to hearts and draw 0-0 at Livingston, dropping 5 points.
The 1 game when Swanson got sent off, we were already leading 5-0 so it had no bearing on the final score.
It can't all be honest mistakes because there are too many decisions going against our club at crucial times, we don't need it at 5-0 we need them calls when it matters.
