I had this sent in on the Everton page:

The poll from yesterday about Peter Lawwell and his salary, to be honest I don't know what the going rate is for the Chief Executive of Celtic or what is justifiable in this day and age of mega money football?

What is the criteria for 'doing enough'? Serious question

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Given the money he makes for the club he may well deserve it. As you say though it's all relative I suppose.

I for one cannot hide my frustration at the lack of investment in the team.

One of the things that sticks out in my mind this season was a photo of Pete sat as smug as a Cheshire based fat-cat announcing our financial figures. Hours later we were getting knocked out another cup at home to Aberdeen. Says it all.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are a club without a serious domestic rival in 2/3 seasons and the club are seriously underachieving :-
in total trophies won, in our recent CL record and in the style of football and calibre of player Celtic are used to.
The blame may be the manager's, but the buck stops at Lawell.
Selling our top players is understood as it keeps us solvent, but replacing them with inferior and injury prone players will see us deteriorate more.

{Ed007's Note - The money he is bringing in from player sales is THE only positive I can see he brings to his position. Spending on players and more importantly the wages he is offering around along with the money wasted on wages are pulling the team back. I don't really care too much about the transfer fees but there are a lot of players available in the £25k-£30k a week bracket that that would improve us.}

I know I am a bit late with these thoughts but.
As the official "Celtic Way" is formally opened tomorrow before Aberdeen game I cannot help thinking the old school building could have been saved, refurbished and given an imaginative new use. ie the club keep advertising the new pub "Kerrydale Lounge" could the school not have been fitted out for this? or as our new bigger and better ticket office.
The school, whether some officials like it or not, was part of Celtic Park and holds a lot of memories for some people. To simply knock down an old historic building to be a "walkway" seems wrong to this tim.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know what your saying Tim, I can get a bit nostalgic as well.

The area is now totally unrecognisable but it does look fantastic.

I think the School would maybe have taken a bit of upkeeping with it being so old and it was becoming an eyesore compared to the rest of the area.

We need to move with the times, or so I'm told lol

@Mrs E at least something good came of demolition of old school, my business partner Wee Pat has apparently sold the entire building, brick by brick to an American billionaire who is at this moment in time shipping it to Las Vegas to turn it into a casino. lol

Agree0 Disagree0

One of those floating casinos Tim?

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny that Tim, I heard Sevco maintenance services had bought the bricks because they are the same shade as the bricks at Ibrokes in order to patch up the huge crumbling holes in the main stand. I also heard they paid by cheque and it bounced.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's a building at the end of the day. Memories are forever.

Scottish Everton scouts reportedly putting Jamesy's name forward to Martinez. Ideally, he'd be a squad player for us. So, if we could get a figure from which we could buy someone like Djuricic I'd be delighted. Newcastle already in talks with his representatives though. But that's the kind of player I'd like. It's also reported we value Forrest at £7m. Not sure we'd get that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fingers crossed this is true. If we can get £5-7m for Forrest, because £9.5m McGeady was poor but Forrest is a poor man's Aiden!

Agree0 Disagree0

How anyone can realistically value Florist at £5-7m is way beyond my comprehension. What has he done in his career to justify even a quarter of those figures? On his day he's not bad but he's on his day about 3 or 4 games in a season and even that's against poor opposition.

Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm firing up the Quattro as I type!

I really don't see anyone paying £7 million for James Florist, we could replace him and still bank £6,999,999.

I can just hear Pedro "Put that away and pull your fly up Jamesy Bhoy, you're off to Merseyside!"

Agree0 Disagree0

We're talking English Premier League clubs here. More money than sense. If we can't negotiate £5-7m for an average, injury prone first team Celtic player from them then Peter Lawwell isn't doing his job right. This is a country where Huddersfield got £8m for Jordan Rhodes, £5m for Danny Graham, Burnley got £7m for Jay Rodriguez, Wolves got £7.5m for Matt Jarvis, Liverpool got £5m for Charlie Adam, etc! As well as the top 5-6 teams spending £25-50m per player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely someone from the cash filled EPL will give £5/£7 million for Forrest. He has had a rotten time with illness and injury but if he can overcome them, I think with his pace he could be a match winner with any team .

Agree0 Disagree0

I rate him more than most too Chris.

His record ain't bad at all really. I think there's better to be had though if we get £7m.

Agree0 Disagree0

@chrisbhoy mate its unrealistic the valuation quoted. £2m at a push in my opinion.

Guys if the £7m is true, I foresee a queue a mile long of Celtic fans (myself included) ready, willing and able to drive Forrest to Merseyside. lol
Snodgrass is valued around £5m sign him and we would still be in profit.

PS ED007 here is an idea for a poll
Would Celtic fans rather Forrest was sold or stayed for another season

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I've passed that on to Ed001, he's become unhealthily infatuated with setting up his polls of the day.}

@4) HB, If they pay that kinda money for Florist then THEY aren't doing THEIR job right. I think the phrase, "a fool and his money are easily parted" doesn't quite stretch as far as Jamesy! Those players you mentioned are all much betther than him. in my opinion.
DN30, I agree with you totally, £2m would be good business.

Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

@timalloy i'd carry him all the way on my back to merseyside for even £20 lol

Agree0 Disagree0

They may be better players Chris, but they're all much smaller clubs than Celtic. In terms of finances, playing squads, facilities, etc. A move to England might see Jamesy come good, but I won't be disheartened when/if he leaves.

Agree0 Disagree0

There are many players playing for clubs in the lower regions of the EPL and championship who could never reach Forrest's high standards and they would cost £5/6 m upwards . Of course
It would depend on Forrest shaking off his injuries
