I see our other Scottish teams are doing their bit to raise the coefficient, NOT, St Johnstone lost 1-0 to a team playing first time in europe

Tbf St Johnstone don't play regularly in Europe . But as long as we do what's required then that should be enough

Marco Scotland are 23rd in the coefficient table, until we go up to about 16th we will always have to play 3 qualifiers, unless Celtic themselves raise their own coefficient total by getting to last 8 of CL for next 3 years, we need St Johnstone, Aberdeen and hearts to win as many qualifiers as they can.

To be fair to St Johnstone,they would'nt be the first club that came unstuck against a team making their debut in Europe,that was a bit of a ridiculous comment Timmalloy,but having listened to the game reports,they can be critisised for playing badly,although the heat might have had someting to do with that.

Delighted young Rogic getting a bit of the plaudits from last night game folks , A know how good he actually is and WILL be as easily important to us this season as GMS & Armstrong in fact the three even might even flourish more along with Henderson given they are all roughly the same age be bracket! First time in a long time A have thought there are a CHUNK of players starting a season that could still be there in five years and I am delighted at that factor given the way the transfer market is now!

And given that you have Commons,Rogic,Armstrong,GMS, Johansen,Henderson and even McGregor vying for three positions that is why there is no need for McGeady IMO

Spot on Jamie, I like Rogic a lot I hope he can squeeze himself into the team somehow. Ed while I on I really pleased about Janko. But I would like to ask if u know the feelings of the Manchester United fans. I can't figure out why they would let him go he looks a real talent.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Most Utd fans were adamant that it would only be a loan and are a bit p*ssed off it's permanent hoping Utd have put a buy-back (first refusal) clause in the deal. I've seen a couple of people comparing it to Pogba leaving but I don't know if I would go that far.
The lad might have wanted a move if he wasn't getting game time as happened with Pogba.}

02 Jul 2015 15:39:42
Cheers ed defo a strange 1. Its not as if Manchester United are blessed with any great RB. though I know Valera is highly rated.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Janko leaving will probably mean that Varela won't be loaned out next season, they rate him very highly but Rafael is garbage, Valencia is never a RB or even a RWB and as for playing Phil Jones there ;(
Utd's main target to play RB is Seamus Coleman however they are aware that Everton will not be keen to sell him and are actively trying to put together a deal for someone else who I'm not allowed to mention.}

02 Jul 2015 16:36:02
Its Richard Foster isn't it Ed

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Ross County have already swooped to sign him, Man Utd had him 3rd on their list.}

02 Jul 2015 18:10:14
This part of the deal. We get janko and they get Matthews lol

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2015 19:23:32
Said when the initial interest was reported I was surprised it migt be permanent. Definitely one of the standouts of the Bu21PL. Both him and Boyata also are coming in with real pedigree and hunger. A proven goalscorer at a top level and a goalscoring wide man and it'll not be a bad window.

So far, with who we have lost and brought in i'd be surprised if we're out of pocket by 'much' so hopefully, added to new deals with NB etc there's still scope to get that proven goalscorer to lead the line.

Hope Man U get the Monaco lad Fabhino for rb awesome young talent and exactly what they need imo

Ed I heard it was Van Der Wiel from PSG that United were after. Dunno whether that's just papers putting 2 (Dutch player) and 2 (Dutch manager) together and getting 5 though.

Enjoyed game last night, better first half in my eyes, Boyata looks decent, composed and with a bit of pace, good to see Lustig back and best surprise of night was display of young Rogic, there has never been any doubt about his talent, just the injuries he seems to pick up regularly, ala Boerighter, if we can keep the 3 mentioned above injury free and added to our first team squad we should be in a good position for challenging on all fronts this season. Dukla Prague next a sterner test as they will be more match fit than the Dutch as their season half way through just like Stjarnan's. Mackay-Stevens (yippee I spelt his name RIGHT for once lol) is also a big plus to our squad. hail hail

Believable1 Unbelievable1

02 Jul 2015 14:58:19
It's Mackay-Steven mate ;)

Rogic's futsal background always made him an interesting proposition. He looked stronger and fitter than he has before last night too so hopefully we can get his career back on track. Dislodging Johansen, Armstrong and Commons might be tough at first but hopefully we do start to see more youngsters getting more chances.

Must admit I'm puzzled a bit by the janko signing,I thought maybe it was for right mid or wing,but I see RD sayin he wants him at RB! So we've now got 4 right backs and only 1 left back! Or 2 because big mulgrew can go in there! But I think it's pretty clear we need competion for izzy! And I'm sure I heard the manager wants to trim the squad! Can u see Matthews and maybe fisher leavin ED? And is there any news on our striker search bud?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - As I've said before I think Matthews will be on the move but I have no idea about Fisher, perhaps he's going to be second choice RB if Lustig moves into the middle. I think we will see a lot of our young players given more of a chance this coming season, you'll never know how good a player will be until you give them a chance, it's something I personally feel the club has let slip over recent years and fans demands for multi-million £ players in every position doesn't help nurture youngsters. I've been guilty of it myself over the years, a young player comes through and is dubbed the 'next so and so' and as soon as he makes a couple of mistakes the crowd and fans are on their back.
I've not heard anything new today about a striker.}

02 Jul 2015 14:16:39
Oh don't get me started on that Academy Ed mate. a reckon in the last FIFTEEN years there is only four players from it that has given us 50 games or more and that is SHOCKING for the size of it IMO

A take a real interest in this side as a have typed my support for those that could have made it again IMO and the next disaster waiting to happen is the let go of Jackson Irvine in the same season we let Andrew Robertson go Jackson Irvine was the best prospect @ Parkhead and a said the person who decided to let Robertson leave to keep the Twardzik twins together should get his jotters! only to take stick for it

PS week before last Hull's Evening standard headline was Hull's most valued asset and Steve Bruce saying he wants "£30 MILLION FFS (that's right thirty ) for Robertson naturally he will not get it or is worth it but one's thing for sure he is worth more than letting him go! ATVB JB7

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Is it the quality of the players or is it that they are just not given a chance? Let's face it we are going to cruise the league so why not use more youngsters and see how things work out?
Hopefully under RD we will see a higher number and a better quality of youngsters breaking through. One of my favourite stats about RD is that between 2001-2007 not ONE single Stromsgodset player earned a youth cap (including under 21s) for Norway. However, in just 5 years under Deila, the figure reached 179, that's works out at an average of 36 per season.}

02 Jul 2015 15:12:58
I honestly don't know Ed , I actually said last season when RD was getting stick and there were a few not buying into it to throw ALL the young blood on and again got stick for it thankfully we have moved on from that with RD!

I was going to ask it is now trendy to play a GK in a one of the other tournaments and let him "see it through" so given we have already won the LC why not let Fasan play in that tournament through the rounds of it , it is the least important of the tournaments we are in just wondered what you and other's think of that idea?

BTW a looked just there at Jackson Irvine's twitter page and it seems he is back at parkhead? a thought they had let him go just seems everybody says "Efe is a bombscare" "Mulgrew is useless" etc. etc. and there a lad more than capable of playing CH and his preference CDM and most really don't know much about him mate

As you say let's give them a chance instead of giving them away!

My fav RD story is how he treated Mohammed Abu/Abdu speaks volumes for me (y)

Is it not one thing you can say you learned from Salary mccoist ,is the biggest, although that's a difficult call,mistake he made was not playing the young players last year when the league was sewn up,.I hope Henderson gets more games this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2015 19:25:23
I know I'm a bit old fashioned, but I think we should play our strongest team in all competitions.
I think that young players should earn their place in the first team on merit, if they're good enough they will stand out, and force their way into the team.
I don't agree Jamie that we should rate one competition higher than another, to me it's giving the green light to all the players that they can take it easy, and it doesn't matter if they lose. Once that way of thinking becomes established in the squad' it won't take long for that attitude to stretch to league matches, and a match against Ross County doesn't seem as important as a match against Aberdeen.
I think that Celtic should be ultra competitive in every match we play, a lot of fans travel long distances, and spend a lot of money supporting them, the least they should expect is for the strongest possible team to be selected, whatever their age.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2015 19:59:48
Hi Gerry, That's fair enough mate I take and respect your point , but with the LC we always seem to tinker with it especially in the earlier rounds as it runs into the CL mate

That's how we got turned over by Morton a few years back we made 8 changes a think and played PUKKI up front as a lone striker :-0 so your point is valid to me

But this is the way we are going in terms of youth need to be tried & tested me personally a have BIG hopes for Fasan (y)

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2015 21:27:57
I take your point too Jamie, I know this is how football is nowadays.
I can see the wisdom in giving Fasan a run, he looks a very good prospect.
As you said, we made all those changes against Morton, and lost the match, that's what I think is wrong.
If they want to experiment with youngsters, I feel that only 1 or 2 should be introduced at a time, so they can play alongside the experienced players who can help them through.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jul 2015 22:15:33
I agree we should always play our strongest team,but what if our strongest team is actually one that contains one of the younger players,what I mean is sometimes a player that might enhance the team is left out because he is percieved to lack experience or to be too young,I agree that the team should not be chopped and changed like RD was doing at the start of last season,but maybe that was his way of finding out what kind of players he had at his disposal,I don't agree with squad rotation just for the sake of squad rotation,I believe in a settled team that is only changed because of injury or lack of form.

Just when you thought English Football could not get any crazier with silly money being spent on average players, Middlesbourgh go and lower the bar.

It has been reported they have had a bid of 4.5m for Darryl Murphy knocked back, yes knocked back can you believe it.

Well done to the Celtic board for not falling into these silly overspending bidding wars and paying what's realistic for sometimes real talents. I would much rather unearth a gem than spend mass money on pure dross.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

02 Jul 2015 12:48:24
He scored 28 goals last season? Hardly dross

Agree0 Disagree1

02 Jul 2015 13:20:12
An Indian summer in somewhat of an average career.

You think he'll score 28 again this season?

At that age spending 4.5 m on him is a disgrace but hey ho if it appeases the fans who think it's great to spend then carry on.

Watched last nights game. Lots of little flashes but no one that consistently stands out. Those in the first team are safe for the moment. Some may develop over time but not next season. We still need a few class players LB, left wing and striker

Jonace have u been listening to ronny class players cost a lot of money plus if u think of it gms armstrong r like new players also with the 2 bhoys from manchester that's us looking really good from the bk to middle just need a decent stricker to challange lg and scepovic also it was a pre session game not always the best to judge if we r honest hail hail

Armstrong GMS and Van Djik are first team players, Boyata will be too. I was talking about the other players on show. Fisher and Henderson perhaps may be added to that list. I remember Nickolas Aitken and even Dalglish at that age they stood tall and forced their way into the first team against formidable competition.
