I was at the game yesterday and I thought the young Bhoy tierney had a really solid game I don't think there is a need no to bring in someone to challenge izzy as I think after one season as understudy he will be ready to step up and make the position his own

This is what we have all wanted, and truth be told needed, was young players getting a chance.

I'm 1 of meny that moans about not giving youth a chance then is also quick to say sign him him and everyone lol but I hope to see more youth in the team in the next few years

Agree0 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 21:07:14
I would love to see a near full team come through the youth set up like man utd, barca, Ajax teams of the 90's and 00's but it must be quite a way off, what I never here is any youth strikers coming through the system

He was good, he should stay in the squad, first team traIining, etc, my thought is that we have in the last 3 seasons(I make no destinction between RD and NL) treated a lot of kids, be they homegrown, Irish,English, or from elsewhere in a manner which does not befit the standing of our club, we have to bring people on and/or let them go in a professional manner

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 22:52:19
That Greg Stewart guy at Dundee seems to be a natural goal scorer, why are we obsessed at wanting foreign strikers when we might be missing diamonds in our midst, could he be another Andy Robertson or James McCarthy

I think the future of Celtic has to be by bringing through youths from our academie.
The Celtic club either doesn't generate enough spare funds to buy and pay the wages of more expensive players than currently .
We need to improve our early scouting , train and coach players in the Celtic style and bring them through to first team players . We should only be buying one or two players any season , to fill positions where we are particularly weak .
As far as Jonace is concerned , Jimmy Johnstone , recently labelled Jinky was as far as I know a particularly good trainer . It was long after 1967 that alcohol took a grip on his life and even then he still trained hard .

What's people's thought on the Green Brigade at Celtic Park? Personally while I think at times they have put a bit atmosphere back into the place they have become a bit of a sideshow, with other fans sitting watching them! What happened to the whole stadium getting involved in the singing? When I started going to Paradise as a young bhoy the songs used to get started all over the ground and gradually spread right round and I loved the good old fashioned Celtic songs!

Believable5 Unbelievable1

02 Aug 2015 19:39:52
I've said a few times that I feel they can make the atmosphere great, but other times they just sing their own songs which are difficult to join in with. I did notice they were singing a bit more older stuff on Wednesday, hail hail and the fields which got more fans involved. Hopefully they keep that up.

Agree0 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 19:50:04
Lubom25; agreed, although the GB enhance the atmosphere, the rest of the stadium need to get involved.
Years ago we used to start it in the jungle and then spread right round the ground. On the odd occasion I sat in the main stand with my Dad the whole main stand was on their feet singing. No better place to be.
The old songs were classics and if sung once again i'm sure would have everybody on their feet.

My fav (The holy ground once more ) The Clancy brothers.

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 20:23:18
They create a good atmosphere , but too often they give it the 12 inch version of songs which can be annoying .

Agree0 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 21:26:52
They are a really positive contribution, I love them, However,Having been a Jungle Bhoy and now being of a certain age,and having lived abroad for more than 30 yrs I really get the "the Old WANs are the Best" maybe the rest of CP should stand up by themselves and sing for a few games, the lads at the GB are not stupid and would get it right away, they are also of a certain age which breeds a different type of response, but I am sure that their grasp of the old "Call to Arms" is no less than mine/yours,and if somebody else in the crowd started off then they would follow every time with fervour

Agree0 Disagree1

03 Aug 2015 16:29:31
Malikia I fully agree there is no point in any of us murmuring after the
match about not liking the content of the GB songs .
Anyone of us can stand up and get the traditional stuff going from our seat .

Been dipping in and out of the two matches today and a question arose. Are we about to have a real fight on our hands for the league? There are a few reasons for me thinking this.

Firstly, both hearts and the sheep have young managers who like to play the game. Both have young squads with plenty running in them. Yesterday proved we can sometimes be caught with a third runner, especially one with pace. If both teams play with three up,and both managers have said they will, they will have chances. We need to kill teams off quicker.

Secondly,Aberdeen have quietly built a pretty decent squad, solid with a bit of experience to bring in when needed. The way they overcame a nightmare start in Europe, almost Celticesque in an away game, was impressive. Throw in what by all accounts was shocking conditions, and it makes it even better.

Third,Europe. Cl or Europa there is always the travelling factor. Some players need to step up and maybe Ronny needs to be a bit more cautious in his approach. This week we don't need to chase, why risk four attacking players? Stiffen the defence and midfield and use the same system in tough away game at home. This let's some players have a break and freshens them. I think we may well be in for a bit of a season y'know.

Do people forget that we beat Aberdeen every game last year? I think overall it was 9-1 in our favour. How all of a sudden are people fearing the worst? I am one of only a few supporters on here that backed RD from the start and said he would come good and he did. Towards the end of the season we played some brilliant football. Give it a couple of weeks and we will be back in the groove. Hail Hail

Sackthe board; I admire your optimistic approach but I honestly think we will get it a lot tougher this year. I also know we did beat Aberdeen in all league games, but to be fair we carried a slice or two in periods of these games. Maybe I am reacting to a pretty lethargic, for the most part, game v County, but I worry about not killing teams off quickly.

If Aberdeen qualify for the UEFA League we will win the SPL with considerable more ease tha last season . If they don't we will still win the league by 20 something points.

ED007 all us Celtic supporters have no hope left as "Warburtons Warwagon" gains momemtum (my ex bear pals have now taken to texting me EVERY goal they score groan) and how can Delia compete with a man who starts work at 6.00am and works 14 hour days (what a hero) to secure Champions League football NEXT season, why are we even going to Qarabagh? the writing is on the wall as "ra peepil" fight their way back, (please excuse this post as I am writing it with tears in my eyes)

Why do you keep updating the page on what your "ex bear pals" have to say? Nobody's interested!

02 Aug 2015 20:39:22
I think we should all be worried, I never thought for a minute that Warburton would have such an impact that they would beat teams of the magnitude of Peterhead.
I don't imagine it will have gone unnoticed in Barcelona or Madrid.

Agree3 Disagree1

03 Aug 2015 17:05:18
If Warburton has to start at 6 am and work a fourteen hour day , to compete at the level they are at , he has a problem . How many hours will he need if they ever reach Europe .
Have Sevco budgeted for such a high electric bill. It may be ok for him in July and August but after that with the day light getting shorter., the bigger light bills could put the lights out altogether .

Firstly I really feel that so many of our fans underate VVDand will soon find out how important he is to the full team set up and that denayers progress was a good part of VVDS influence! Secondly scepovic isn't going to work and I like the way RD is trimming the squad right down but as shown on Saturday with signing a CF with a ban hanging over his head a 3rd CF is something we need ASAP! And not another pile of sh*te! If LG gets injured were screwed! And let's hope it's quality we sign this time!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

02 Aug 2015 18:59:47
There is no doubting the ability, confidence and class of VVD and he is still learning his trade. If we do lose him, we will not only find it tougher in Europe, but our SPL opponents will be a lot happier facing Celtic.
We need to replace like-with-like (or better) and stop going for the cheaper, economical fix - or raiding our 'feeder club' from Dundee!

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 19:06:17
As gutted as I was to see LG get injured yesterday I felt it may show the board how desperate we are for a striker. As for VVD, I'd love him to stay but also we shouldn't sell him for less than WE value him. He's looked a bit suspect in Europe but he's young and definitely got the potential to be top class. When you see the likes of Connor Whickham move for nearly £10 million it just saddens me the way football is nowadays

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 21:20:06
Ur right we need like for like or even every team in the SPL will start scoring against us a lot more regularly! He has been on of the best we've had and a major spine to the team I hope we have the next in line picked! Yeah HT the exact thought entered my mind too!we need a player good enough to start! I'm warming to Griffitths his work rate alone deserves tremendous credit! I think that's why Deila is trimming the squad only players good enough to compete for the very place! So I'm hopefull on the striker front!

Afternoon Ed, A see CG saying yesterday a fan who gave him grief last year has asked him for his strip this year so is it a good fit on you mate or just a "wallhanger" but for the life of me a cannot see your Mrs letting you out the "hoose" with canary yellow on lol (Y)

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note - I seen that story and could smell the BS coming from it through my screen, I think CG has had a wee dream the other night and woke up not knowing if it was real or not - maybe it's a side effect of his strong painkilling meds.}

02 Aug 2015 14:34:29
I found it a bit cringey to be honest. He does not need to indulge the news papers like this.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 11:31:34
Just on the Craig Gordon incident yesterday where he was caught and some could argue a red card (which they did - naming no names)

This was Boyata's side - he looked quite clumsy? Early days for him and he's scored a goal to get us out of jail but what about the defending?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

02 Aug 2015 12:12:53
Boyata is certainly no Denayer and if VVD was to go then we could probably be looking at an Efe mark 2 situation.
I know it's early days and he has waded in with a couple of important goals, but he is making a lot of positional and possession mistakes; Hopefully he will come good with games and coaching?

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 12:51:32
I think he has shown enough to merit a bit more time.Granted he has made,i would say errors more than flat out mistakes, but he has bailed us out a few times as well.

Agree3 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 13:06:31
Think Boyata defensively looks fine , always attacks the ball, his distribution was poor yesterday but who's wasn't? He missed Bitton coming short to take ball off him so time will tell though Big Bobo wasn't exactly silky on the ball

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 14:42:09
Yeah but when he gave away the ball on the halfway he stood and watched rather than get into position which almost resulted in CG being sent off. He was terrible yesterday.

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 15:31:10
Is this why Craig Gordon is being left exposed at times (also at the Scottish Cup semi-final), we are relying on our centre backs for goals and they are too far up the field.

Gordon's sending off at the semi-final came from a corner. I'm not defending Gordon here, he could have done better but it is leaving him vulnerable?

If we still had a Wanyama would the centre backs be in the box for corners? Maybe this is why Ciftci was signed, more a threat in the air?

I thought a few times in the 2nd half, Scott Brown was almost in a sweeper role. The last thing we need is the goalkeeper to be acting as a sweeper

Agree1 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 09:37:27
with Kramer saying his preferred option Is feynoord , we should turn our attention to michael de leeuwe of Groningen imo a more rounded player who plays att mid/second striker and also left mid/wing. his goal stats are also superior to Kramer and de sutter who we've been linked too , another we should look at is enar zahavi of maccabi tel aviv whose scoring record from midfield is brilliant both players could imo fit the rd mould /and system historically players from both leagues seem to be able to our adapt well here mostly for the best, on the game yesterday everybody and their dog has had say on Gordon (who is becoming a serial offender for this),but have yet to hear anyone ask if their man should have walked for denying a goal scoring opp

Believable0 Unbelievable1

02 Aug 2015 10:26:15
No the ref was spot on the ball was going away from goal and he wasn't the last man yellow card was the right call

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 10:53:52
It should have been a red card.

Agree0 Disagree2

02 Aug 2015 11:05:42
Re Gordon I think a booking was correct as the man was going diagonally away from goal and van dijk would have had a chance to to defend it, that said if he had sent him off it wouldn't have been a terrible call as real time decision is harder to call

Agree0 Disagree1

02 Aug 2015 12:49:40
It was away from goal but if it was at the other end I'd have been wanting the keeper sent off and so would basically all of u! So by they accounts it was a r d card!

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Aug 2015 15:33:37
On the subject of red card decisions did Andrew Davies not merit a yellow or red card for illegally preventing a clear goal scoring opportunity , perhaps that was part of Willie Collum's thinking .

Having just returned from 'vacation'. I was astonished to read Celticforevers post re the playing squad. Seriously mate? You don't think we would horse sevco. right now?

I missed the game yesterday,France is a nightmare by the way,but watched the Euro match.I felt while we never sparkled we were disciplined and kept at it,something we have been short in at times in Europe. Make no mistake they were a very decent team. I thought they were incredibly well drilled.Every time a man moved to cover they had a player at his back replacing him.Very impressive I thought.

Having said that I did feel that what we saw was what they have.I don't think they will alter their game that much, the conditions and travelling will mean they don't have to. Set pieces as Ronny says will be vital. We do need to start having a crack against teams who pack their box.Through a mass of legs who knows what kinda deflection it will take?

@celticforever. Really mate? Your decimation of some players is astonishing. Brown? A player who has,on his own, dragged us back into games when we have looked a bit lethargic. I have always said everyone has,and is entitled to,an opinion. But I feel you are a bit too critical in my opinion.

Regarding your assessment of Armstrong and GMS,again very harsh I feel. I do agree that Armstrong would maybe be more effective in the central midfield but he does a job for me.GMS,he's a winger mate, they blow a bit hot and cold. What he has done is contribute more in his short spell here than Forrest has in years. One more thing. They never hide.Watch how many times GMS tracks back and covers,Armstrong as well never stops running.

Cifti? How about giving him some time mate? More about the hold up play than the goals for me.Lastly, we are still a work in progress.Stop reading the paper and listening to desperate sevconian reporters. Ronny has been here one year! If only we had the foresight to appoint Warburton
who I hear has sevco playing a brand of football never before seen on this planet. well if you listen to the MSM in Scotland you would.
