Guys I will not be on tomorrow as got a friend's baby christening in the morning then game in afternoon, so I am putting my horse tips up now.
Sly are going EIGHT places in the 3.35 Newmarket (yes a bit of cavalry charge with over 25 runners but hey 8 places)
I have two horses at big prices
Qassem 18/ 1 and Linguistic 16/ 1 obviously go each way with 8 places.
Over at Haydock they are going 5 places in the 3.15
My horse there is Withernsea 12/ 1
I have done an e/ w single and double with Linguistic.

I think the issue we all have had over the years is that PL and Co have not spent money on the team: Now however it looks like if BR wants a player then he gets that player and PL makes that happen, it's been a while since we have had Manager that operates the way BR does.

Ntcham was our most expensive signing for quite a while and hopefully with the new hotel venture etc. we'll eventually be in a position to spend that type of money on a player or two every summer. That coupled with a far better TV deal which should see the standard of the entire league take a jump since we currently have one of the worst deals of any country in Europe. Ditch Sky and go with BT!

See some posts saying the money spent on the hotel complex should go on players, remove the heart guys this is business.

Players are hit and miss with regards a balance sheet, for every Virgil there's a Cifti, there are also tax implications to be considered. This will be actioned as a business expansion and as such we will receive more tax breaks than buying a player. But here's the rub.

When up and running this will, i have no doubt, raise a shed load of cash will will be available to fund player purchases and contracts. This is a highly lucrative and cash flow steady operation.

Finally, the look of the club. The Park, at this minute, looks quite magnificent. The Celtic way is as good an entrance to a ground as i can think of. With the addition of the hotel and other units it will spread us out all over the area around the Park . In short it will be a daily earner all year round.

There is also one factor never to be forgotten or dismissed. GIRUY sevco. They are slipping into light years away from us on and off the pitch. Which is nice.

Sorry GJ, I usually agree with your posts to a T. But not this time. You say the money available from the hotel will go to fund players. Why? We've had plenty of income from, I don't know, the Champions League? Something which our CEO has said we don't budget ourselves on. Yet when we do get that windfall, we don't see any real, extra, investment in the playing squad. For all the frustration I've vented in the past, it's became pretty clear to me over the past few years that we have a strict business model, and generally speaking we won't digress from it. I really have no hope that this hotel will mean extra quality on the park given that there have already been opportunities like that. Perhaps somebody could correct me, but will this hotel make us an extra Β£30m a year un-budgeted that the CL already hasn't?

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Sep 2017 17:37:37
@jimTim; You have to remember our running costs will be huge, as sevco find out every quarter even the leccy is enormous. I will give you that we may be a bit over cautious at times, partly due to pre Fergus maybe?

As for cash generation from the complex? who knows. I would suspect the hotel will be full every weekend, Jury's premier etc get hundreds virtually every home game. I would think the bars would be full a decent percentage of the time, likewise the Celtic cafe.

But again mate, the image is a big thing in business. We are looking like a proper European club now, even down to the amount of our own youngsters breaking through. All this will enhance, sorry to say it, the brand.

I wonder what the business model for the Hotel will be. Are we going for the matchday experience with Celtic themed rooms and everything green and white or are we going for a more muted style to appeal to the conference and business sector? Or both? The hotel will be booked full on matchdays but it will have to find alternative clients on other days. I see it as a fantastic upgrade to Celtic Park.

Hi bhoys, not been on for a while due to being stressed out my nut but must say loving being a Tim just now, don't think it could be any better. The team, manager, coaches and the board reek of class and it's great to see. Get the hotel built if financially viable, make great facilities even better. We can't see into the future but if Mr Lawwell thinks it'll make money and benefit the club he'll build it. On a lighter note, what can I say about Pedro from Ibrokes, the mans a cartoon, the funniest guy I've heard in years. Nearly hoping for a couple of Gers victories to keep him there. Almost!

Gj. without heart and soul we are nothing that's what makes us support not hotels or a neat and tidy entrance to the stadium . these things are add ons . the team must come first . will a future world class hotel conference centre win us the league? . and though i understand why its being done will it ever make enough to fund a player? someone with hospitality expertise could you educate/ inform me of real financial benefits or is it just window dressing? I'm not against it and it remains to be seen if this will affect team building / spending. but as I said imo the team on the park (and management) should always come first .

As long as Rodgers is doing as well as he is I won't worry about the team, he's nobody's mug and wouldn't be here if he never trusted the board to back him appropriately.

#PeterLawwell: "We feel that the strategy we've employed for a number of years now is working. I think in football if you acting on short term issues you lose, you've got to keep focused, keep the blinkers on and look to the long term. I think that's paying off for us now. I would say if you look at the balance sheet we're probably in the strongest position we've ever been. We're committed to developing Celtic Park and the east end of Glasgow for the benefit of everyone, not just our own supporters. I think it [the hotel] fits for the area and it fits for Glasgow. We probably don't get the recognition or the praise, if you like, for the economic impact that we have on Glasgow and the west of Scotland. And, indeed, the cultural and social impact as well. There's a lot of positives around Celtic and a lot of positives around football that we don't naturally seem to be recognised for. "

Great statement from The Pistol.

Must admit I have been critical of Lawell in the past regarding spending Β£ on players. But credit where credit is due, he has always looked at the bigger picture and has led us to the position we are in now. And as he said, this is the best position we have ever been in (off AND on the park) – it’s hard to argue disagree with that.
If we can continue to be so commercially smart off the pitch (development plans etc) and keep as much of the current squad together as possible, this only the start of this β€˜golden’ era.
HH.

I don't really understand the people who moan about the amount of money we have spent, and say we should spend a lot more.
Buying a 6-8 million pound player is a huge gamble which I personally don't think we need to take.
Getting these players to play in Scotland is also an issue, along with the wages.
Let the EPL buy these mediocre prima donnas.
When the time and price is right, Brendan will buy sensibly.

How about a poll Ed, should Celtic invest money in infrastructure at Parkhead or spend the money on the team?

Spending money on players doesn't guarantee success unless you are spending money like PSG.
Spending money on a decent coach was tge best signing we ever made. Brendan has turned average players i to top players and our football style has an identity and a putpose for the first time in years. Team almost reminds me of what Tommy Burns tried to achieve all tgem years ago.

Building a hotel/ museum if great but I think the south stand is a priority as it needs major upgrade as it's embarrassing that a tent has to be put up on champions league match days outside the ground for media interviews. Celtic have done so much to improve the area and facilities but the south stand is a joke for facilities.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - But we need a CB don't we? Why would we waste money on upgrading the stadium when the team's apparently not good enough?}

29 Sep 2017 09:56:37
I'm 100% for developing the area around Parkhead. With a new Hotel and possible capacity extension, it will boost the appeal for hosting big games like a CL final. It also provides new revenue otherwise untapped. All this is great news as long as the team doesn't suffer because of it.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Sep 2017 10:49:55
In football terms we need a lot more than just a CB to progress, but don't you think the south stand is antiquated in comparison to the rest of the ground?

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - I was being flippant after reading some of the posts, Jim. I do think the South Stand needs upgrading (changing rooms, opposition arrival area and press area etc) but I wouldn't be keen on increasing the capacity as there would be a lot of empty spaces when we are playing smaller teams.
Wait until we are, hopefully, in the EL after Christmas and see the attendance at that, remember there's a lot of supporters and posters who don't think we should be playing in the EL and that if it's not the CL it's a waste of time.}

29 Sep 2017 11:41:41
How can really positive news be spun into a negative by some of our fans it does ma head in look at the celtic way by some on here that was a waste of money.

Agree1 Disagree2

29 Sep 2017 12:25:14
Don't understand the not wanting to play in the el. it let's us develop in euro terms . gives extra income and a few good nights. also a run keeps us in the view of the football world for future signings. on the stadium transfer issue why can't and shoudnt we be doing both.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - Just look back through the site from when we were in the EL and see how some people spoke about it and look at the attendances at the matches.}
