Craig Gordon

Anyone else getting fed up Gordon seems to be conceding a goal a game almost these days whenever a shot comes towards our goal from the opposition?

A lot of the clean sheets he keeps these days seems to only be because we restrict the opposition to such a limited amount of chances they don't even test him, e. g the game against Dundee Utd just there didn't even have a save to make.

It's really starting irritate me now the volume of goals he's conceding, that's now a staggering 21 goals he's already conceded this season and we're not even into November yet, I realise the defence has been poor as well this season but you'd still like to rely on him to save a few more goals than that. Also see even tbh, you could even discount some clean sheets to an extent this season against the likes of Dundee Utd (5-0), Partick Thistle (0-2), Motherwell (0-1), Hearts (0-0), Dundee (6-0) and Ross County (2-0) as I can't recall him having to make any significant saves in those games.

But when he has been called upon to be the last line of defence and be trusted to dig us out a hole he's instead conceded to Stjarnan (1), Kilmarnock (2), Inverness (2), Malmo (4), St Johnstone (1), Aberdeen (2), Ajax (2), Fenerbache (2), Hamilton (1), Molde (3) and Hearts (1). He's not anywhere near the same reliable shot stopper as he was last season, his kicking is suspect as well. I think personally it's time Bailly got a chance to see what he can do and if he's not up to it look for a new first choice keeper next season. What's folk thoughts?

Celticforever you seem to search for something negative for your regular posts .
I believe the whole team defends whenever we lose the ball and it is rarely any one player who is wholly responsible for keeping a clean sheet, or for conceding too many goals . Up on to about Halloween last season Gordon seemed to save an exceptional amount of shots and as it now appears he played above himself . I think we are seeing the true Gordon this season, making a number of good saves but in no way unbeatable .
Over the years I have seen a lot of Celtic goal keepers and IMO Gordon is neither among the very best or among the worse.

Yeah, that 6-1,against Barcelona, you could blame Foster for the six of them, and he had a better defence in front of him, whereas Gordon did quite well keeping it down to three against Molde.

Agree with you on this 1 old bhoy not the best but no where near the worse. He hasn't been as good this year that's is obvious for all to see but changing the back 4 every single week isn't helping anyone no point in picking individual players out because everyone of the defence apart from jozo (injured) have been poor especially in Europe.

Agree1 Disagree1

29 Oct 2015 21:55:10
I'm only stating facts Old Bhoy, whether that's coming across as negative or not is neither here nor there. And the fact is Gordon has been nowhere near good enough this season, just as Johansen also has been.

A big match was won by Ronny yesterday and he needed it and I'm delighted the treble hunt is still on as this was Lenny's biggest failing couldn't win the league cup. But we still need to defeat Aberdeen, Molde, Ajax and take a draw away at Fenerbache for a lot of the support to be convinced by Ronny. We need to see progression and a treble and qualification for the last 32 of Europa will be seen as that. He will then gain the trust of those for another crack at the CL qualification.

There's lot's of positives I've listed in the past and currently I'm very pleased with the form of Griffiths, very much like the look of Rogic he excites me and Bitton is my current favourite player.

However, we're still quite a few players away from being a decent side on the European stage, that much is clear for me. Imo we need a new GK (Gordon found wanting this season), CB (Boyata not good enough), LB (Tierney may be the answer), CM (Brown not good enough), RW (Commons time almost up), CAM (Johansen not good enough, Rogic may be the answer), LW (Forrest/Armstrong/GMS not good enough), ST (Still don't trust Griff in Europe)

These players are all decent enough domestically, but in Europe I feel they'd be found wanting as they have been this season. A team perhaps that looks something like.

-----------------------------New GK-------------------------------

--Lustig/Janko------Simunovic-------New CB-------Tierney/New LB--

--------------------Bitton----------New CM-----------------------

----Griffiths/New RW-------Rogic/New CAM-------------New LW------

----------------------------Cole/New ST--------------------------

Only through a team like this will we see this side progress us further again in Europe, we are currently carrying quite a few passengers at that level as has been shown this season.

Guys like Gordon, Boyata, Izzy, Brown, Johansen, Armstrong, GMS and a few others should not be trusted and given another chance to see us qualify again for the group stages of the CL.

Building a new side around Carlton Cole there?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Oct 2015 00:21:17
Celtic forever I know your a passionate chap but as Jim is saying why is Carlton Cole suddenly propelled to lead striker ahead of Leigh griffiths and that's about all I could take from yet another massive post lol.

30 Oct 2015 00:59:49
As you can see JimTim, If the big man isn't a good enough target man in this formation then the 'New ST' words I used should suggest to you that we will need a new striker.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Oct 2015 05:34:23
You may as well put 'new' next to every position in the team then.

I think I know where you're coming from. Carlton Cole is more like the 'type' of striker we need, as an option.

Just looked like you were hoping we'd start building a team around the revered Carlton Cole, who at 32, only has 69 goals to his name, the last one being October 2014 I think.

Sadly I think his signiature puts a nail in the coffin of us getting another striker in the next window. Unless we can off load Stokes, Boerrigter and an offer comes in for Ciftci or Griffiths.

What's more sad is he'll probably do a job given how poor our squad has become. When you look at our team on paper, the flaws are blatant. But it's fans that a) don't recognise it's a rubbish signing and b) don't voice their frustration, rather than throwing him straight into their ambiguous fantasy side that keep it happening.

We need to start a revolution now.

CG should be dropped for a few games and LB given a chance. Gordon's Woeful at cross balls into the box from set-pieces and gets beat at his near post to frequently, saying that the Defence gets me nervous anytime the balls near the box!

Celticforever I think it would be better to start with a clean sheet and build a whole new team that could play as a team than bring in six or eight new players who may or may not blend with the few remaining . We might as well call the team a new name when we are at it .

Is John Hughes possibly keeping the door open to come to Celtic in some capacity by holding off signing a new contract at Inverness?
The guy has talent and could be a replacement for Collins. Having said that so could my cat!

Just a thought, not a rumour, but thought I'd mention it.

Hail Hail.

29 Oct 2015 19:20:37
RD needs more support from the board (as in bring in players he wants as long as they are in the budget of the club) and should be able to bring in his OWN back room staff now could possibly see the reason for the board wanting some one Scottish as back room staff to start with but not now don't know any supporter who thinks Collins is a good addition to the back room staff.

29 Oct 2015 21:04:38
Tony I am sure that if Ronnie really wanted to bring in his own backro staff he would be allowed to do do. I don't think Ronnie does confrontation and making demands. Look at some of the issues that have happened. Not once has Ronnie made an issue out of anything. I'm not criticising him for that but it may point out to how he works? Very polite, very calm wanting the players and staff to love him? Maybe it works but if he wanted a new backroom team he would get it! Don't think he wants one. He really believes Celtic are on the right track and improving so if that is what he believes why would he change anything.

The rumours and stories seem to be that Collins was a bit of a header some six years ago at Hibs . These rumours could well be true but even if they were there is no reason why Collins couldn't have amended his ways and could now be no longer acting the so called he man or whatever .
I think Deila has quite a few of his own team round him and if he didn't want Collins or Kennedy there, that would come to pass .
I would imagine the vast majority of Celtic supporters would have no firm view whether they wanted Collins or not . To most Collins wouldn't be important enough for the supporters at large to have a fix opinion on .

Can I ask all Celtic fans to sign the petition asking for the removal of lord Livingston as a director at Celtic park, this tory pier voted against the motion to delay tax credits cuts to Britain's poorest family's. The ex bt chief who is a non executive director is the perfect example of how our club is moving further away from our working class fans and goes totally against the reason our club was created in the first place .
I would also like to ask other fans opinion on the fact that this season our ticket allocation has been cut at pittodrie and tynecastle by more than half despite the home fans not selling out there allocation, perhaps later on in the season after the split ( if the league is already won ) we could organise a boycott of these grounds as our board certainly won't stand up for us and guys who have went to every away game for years are missing out .

I don't dn30 but what is the alternative to sit by and watch everything our once proud club stood for being washed away by a group of men in suits chasing a profit 😢 how can a small group of people earning 80 thousand pounds a year for doing nothing tell the majority of hard working families who are out there earning 20 thousand a year they are earning too much and they need to give some of it up to pay for the mess they and their banker friend's created.

Livingston stands for everything the Club was founded to stand against. He is not alone unfortunately. The hospitality side of football in all its glory is a shining pinnacle for the commercialisation of football and needs slimeballs like Livingston with all his connections to reel in the sort of prawn sandwich supporter required to make it work.

Would be great to see a Celtic club based on the German model run by the fans for the fans.
