I agree Jimtim, a quality CDM to play beside Broony, and a quality left sided front player (Anya?) to compliment Forrest on the right and I would be delighted. HH Markie.

It's unbelieveable the amount of negative posts about Ronny Deila. The guy is just in the door, top of the league and IN ALL CUP COMPETITIONS.

We are in a rebuilding transition which potentially could take till start of next season. Its not his fault he inheritated a team full of duds. Ambrose, pukki, boerighter, balde, mulgrew to name a few.

Deila has proved himself in Norway, yet even after a good result people still find something to slate him about. Past few seasons under Lennon has pyscologically challenged my sanity. He should never of been appointed manager, was terrible in cup competitions, egotistical and put the club back 4 years. I'm Starting to enjoy football again under Deila. Yes standard is not amazing but we are winning games, in form and sorry guys but points win prizes

Dn30, if fans ar not happy with teams performances, that's their perogative, it mite take a few transfer windows to be playing this fast flowing attacking football ronnys always on about. (can't c it happen), until then, they can b negative if they want, forgot u were always positive under lenny.
P.S, that world renowned league in Norway, is nothing to shout about.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dabhoy granted norway is not the best of leagues, but to be honest neither is scotland. A couple of transfers and I see team progressing futher.

Just glad we are still in europe after janaury. Gives us all something to look forward to mate

Totally agree pal.
As long as the board does its part now.
Over to u PETE??

Agree0 Disagree0

Del is right dn30, people have every right to there opinion. Of the 5 guys you talk about poor Ronny inheriting only one of them has been playing in his first 11 anyway (I know Ambrose played the other night but that was because of injury) so that argument is blown out if the water. As I have said I'm undecided as to whether he will prove to be a decent manager or not. One thing he does have on his side which can only help is that he does seem to be a lucky manager and nobody can deny that, but that won't last forever. And if we happened to be out of the first cup (hearts missing penalty to equalise) out of Europe (goalkeeper single handedly winning us points and Astra doing us a favour, not to mention getting in the back door in the first place) and we were sitting in mid table in the league (could easily be the case when you look at some of the games we have been lucky to get the points) then I wonder if all the people who say how happy they are would have a different view. Markie

Agree0 Disagree2

Markie I don't know if you are aware that the 5 players I mentioned were all part of squad ronny inheriated at start of season and were all used in first team games. Just thought I'd let you know.

It's fairly obvious that if we were out cup due to hearts scenario you mentioned and out europa league, it would be the case where we would all be wanting him out the door. But this is not the case and he is in all competitions therefore he is doing a good job

Agree0 Disagree0

Well as long as your happy DN30. if you think all is rosey in the garden then I'm happy for you. Markie

Agree0 Disagree0

Devils is the first manager since Jock Stein to have Celtic playing European Football after Christmas in his first season .
Craig Gordan has played well for us, but I thought he is part of the team and is meant to save shots .
Lucky manager, I am not sure that is right, a lucky manager wouldn't have to travel to the hell-hole of Tynecastle for his first game in the Scottish Cup . Like all the domestic points we have lost a lucky manager would have at least got a draw on Thursday night .
You seem to think we were lucky that the Hearts striker missed a penalty in the League Cup match but you never mentioned that we were unlucky when our strikers missed good opportunities .
It's only right to be fair .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You better put a flak-hat on, Chris, how very dare you question anything Gordon has done! He stood watching the ball go past him without moving for the first two goals on Thursday and then done his obligatory parrying the ball into the danger area again. At one on one shot stopping he is holding his own, everything else he is as much a liability, if not more, than Ambrose. Gordon's mistakes cost goals, Ambrose's errors have a chance of being rectified.
If a striker isn't doing his job when he's not scoring goals a GK isn't doing his when he can't keep a clean sheet. Fraser Forster didn't struggle to keep clean sheets playing behind the same defence Gordon is, so who's at fault?
Me and Ed001 had a conversation the other night about who is worse, Gordon or Mignolet, it lasted for hours because no matter what one said the other knew something worse.
He's already missing games through injuries like 'a stiff neck' and every game he plays we struggle to keep a clean sheet, remember his clearance at Love Street, frozen to the spot ball watching against Maribor, he's a modern day Rab Douglas.
Every time I see him I find myself questioning his bottle more and more.}

Haha ed, modern day Rab Douglas.Got me thinking about Seville, still can't decide what upset me more, Douglas not diving hands to attackers feet for the goal, balde getting sent off or the Porto play acting.
As far as the current squad go, I think Gordon will do for now but long term a replacement is needed and I don't think its zaluska.
Would also like to see an older, more experienced centre half brought in I think it would help denayer and van dykik. I feel van dykik(spelling?)is believing the hype surrounding him and its costing us goals as he is too casual, we don't seem to have partnership at the back.
Suggestions for centre half?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'd rather suggest a new GK. If the defence don't have confidence in the GK then there's a major problem. I've got an inkling that Gordon might miss the game against Hearts. Maybe he'll bite his nails too far down or something, we all know how that can nip.
I just refuse to believe anyone who says they rate Gordon, they're either blind, stupid or just can't face saying anything bad about because they're that mortified to admit that he's a CFC player. He's making basic errors in every game, and the errors are costing us.}

Markie rebuilding a team takes time. I'm sure you will agree, there is a lot of deadwood in the squad at the moment. These players need moved on asap and replaced with a standard that is acceptable. This is not deila fault, he did not sign these players and deserves chance to build own squad.

January I'm sure we will see a number of new faces.

Ive never said once everything is all rosey. I've always maintained club needs overhaul on and off the park. Deila appointment is step in right direction

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris I am being fair, over the piece the manager has been lucky. The fact we got into Europe through the back door twice can't be evened up by the fact we drew a first division team in the cup. I maybe could have worded the bit regarding the goalkeeper a bit better though, like in many of our group games we were the worst team, we could see that, stats told us that, yet we came away with points when the other team were scratching there heads wondering how the hell it happened. But I can't believe the rattle is getting thrown because I believe the manager has had luck on his side? Luck is something that happens and isn't down to him so I certainly didn't intent it as a cricism. If as we all hope he turns out to be a good manager and a lucky one I'm sure we will all be delighted! Like I say there are things I like so far about him and things I don't so for me the jury's out, if I mention possitive things like the modern thinking ideas he's putting in place regarding fitness and diet, or the way he seems to have a lot of bottle when it comes to making big decisions (dropping big name players isn't a problem), the possitive way he deals with the press, nobody seems to notice. If I mention that I believe other than Johannson nearly all of the players from last year are underperforming compared to last season and that is the biggest reason we are struggling then the outraged few throw the toys out again. I believe I'm being objective and looking at the good and the bad, some on here seem blinkered. Is it not ok to wonder why so many players give the ball away so cheaply compared to last year? when we were expressly told that RDs biggest ability was to improve player performance? The majority of players are going the other way and underperforming. Please don't tell me you think they are all playing better than last season? Remember I come in peace, I WANT the man to succeed, do you not notice before each game when I post on here I end with 'today's the day we turn the corner' it hasn't happened yet but hopefully today. I think there are 2 types on here, those who look at all angles and praise and criticise where they honestly see it, and those who blindly follow and as long as the results are ok then everything is ok. I firmly believe the performance is also important, because it is an entertainment industry and we have always been one of the biggest entertainers in that said industry. Also if your not performing well to get the results you need an element of dare I say it 'luck' and that won't last forever. If we perform the way we have been then we will very soon see ourselfs out of the cup competitions that we are currently in. Markie ps. Have a nice weekend bud HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dn30 you make a strong case on here for people to offer respect to the Celtic manager yet you clearly call Celtic players duds. Charlie Mulgrew is a good player, he may be going tHrough a difficult period but in my view that is because the system leaves him and broody on their own in the midfield. Callum Mcgregor and Anthony Stokes don't put Ina meaningful contribution when we are not in possession. My opinion on Efe Ambrose is probably unpopular he was part of the defence that set a scottish record last year for not conceding a goal. He has played continually for over two years and at the start of the season clearly needed a rest. I know he makes mistakes but they generally occur when he refuses to just launch the ball up the park and overplays it usually because there is not an option from a team mate. Anyway let's not fall into the trap of looking for scapegoats

No doubt that the norwegian league isn't the best, acctually is one of the worst leagues in the world. Its a reason why no norwegian team qualifies for europe, this cause of the lack of speed on the ball etc etc.

Deila took over a relegation type team with no money, they where a bad team in an ever more bad league. Deila made this team, not only win the league, but doing it playing really good football etc etc, but it took a few seasons before anything happened.

If you see the results, and not the style of football yet, you must agree its better than it was? You could see it at times agianst Salzburg. Ok the first 20 minutes where awfull, but then again they where a bit lucky having 0-2, having like 3-4 chances.
After the first 20 and the whole 2nd half was all yours, and you could see something in the breaking.

Hope i'm not stepping on anyones toes here, but I hope Deila gets the time he needs to get the team back playing good football.

Great post markie, the same people who criticise u for being objective ar the same people who constantly criticised lennon, but that was Ok
Ed, your being to tough on Gordon
( deal of the decade.)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note -Can you back up that mortifying claim? I'm tough on him because of the basic errors he makes in every game and the fact we struggle to keep a clean sheet when he plays. A striker gets stick if he doesn't score so why shouldn't a GK get stick when his errors cost us goals.
Deal of the decade sounds like some soundbite Pedro or PLC apologists use to try and justify Pedro going down the penny pinching route. We'd have been in the CL and top of the league earlier if we had replaced Forster with a decent level of GK.
Can you imagine Boruc or Forster missing games with a stiff neck?
First two goals against Salzburg he didn't attempt to even move to try and block it and the third goal he went down far too eatly and parried it straight int the danger area, someone needs to tell him you're meant to parry it away from goal, his clearance agains St Mirren, his failure to react to the Maribor goal at CP and he'only been here 3 month! As a shot stopper he's fine but other than that he brings nothing to the table.
I expect a new GK will be on RD's list next summer unless Gordon gets his finger out, we won't qualify for next season's CL with the modern Rab Douglas in goal, remember Gordon was forced on RD by our penny pinching ways, if the Zombies could have afforded him he would be at Ibrox, that's the deal he wanted because he thought he had no chance of moving to CFC, and that's the deal his agent had been trying to tie-up as soon as they thought he'd pass a medical.
So let's hear real reasons, not just PR spin, why Gordon is the 'deal of the decade' and what deals you're comparing it with? Gordon certainly got deal of the decade, no other club was in for him apart from us and the Zombies, he was talking about moving down divisons when all of a sudden he's CFCs No.1. It's a joke and the sooner the joker is found out the better, I'm just hoping he doesn't cost us in a cup the way he did against Maribor. He's simply not good enough or even worthy of playing CFC.}

Ed, I think you got my post wrong. I was replying to someone who was saying we were lucky because Gordon kept us in games .
I was not praising Gordon, I only said that rather than us been lucky that Gordon was saving us from defeats he was just doing what he was paid for.
Now I am well aware you cannot stand my opinion, but on this occasion you have misinterpreted me and should be directed your rant to the poster who deserves it . ( that will be me stopped from posting for a couple of days, but it is necessary to be fair and accurate )

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You've not understood me, Chris, I meant you should be prepared for flak for daring to question Gordon. I was actually agreeing with you, he's paid to keep the ball out the net and isn't good enough at doing it as the stats show.
I can't see why you thought I was taking a pop at you, it really wasn't the way I meant it.}

Sorry Ed, on closer reading I agrre I was wrong, you were right. I jumped in with my two big feet .
He's not the worse goalie we have had, but he is far from the best .
As long as he doesn't let any in today😆

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No probs (yes)

Groutdoc mulgrew is good when he plays at CB. Don't rate him as a CDM and believe he is only getting a game in this position, due to him being best of a bad bunch.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris02 I'm of the belief Gordon was signed as a stop gap till Fasan develops more.

Hi Bhoys and Ghirls

Just a thought, please don't slag it off.

Having watched Alan play great for Salzburg, Eduardo with Shakhtar and many other young brazillians at other smaller clubs playing some good stuff. Why do Celtic never seem to find a young gem from South America?

Fully understand the restrictions we face, but outwith Shakhtar we can more than compete financially with many others?

Also, I do recall the last time we ventured into the Brazillian market and it turned out to be pure Scheidt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - UK work permit rules make it more difficult to bring in young South American talent, it's the same rules for the EPL teams. Clubs need to prove the youngster is an 'exceptional talent' like we had to do with Wanyama when Alex McLeish spoke up on Wanyama's behalf.}

Kev T I have said this for a long time now there is so much young talent in Brazil we should at least be scouting it! If you look at Porto and Benfica they buy young Brazilians give them first team football for a few years and sell them on for millions! Surely it is Easier to get a work permit for a young Brazilian than a young African, or Asian player!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's not how it works, Gaz, each case is dealt on a unique basis. The red-tape taking players to Portugal etc is nowhere near as strict as the UK rules.}

Sorry the reason I said it would be easier to sign Brazilians is because of there higher ranking in the football world The Scottish FA’s rules on work permit endorsements follow the same guidelines as previously outlined by the UK Government. For the Scottish FA to give their approval, the player in question must have played 75 per cent of his nation’s competitive games – excluding friendlies – in the two years prior to the date of application.

Furthermore, the country the player is coming from must be in the top 70 of the FIFA rankings.
Country's such as Kenya are way below 70

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Sorry mate, you've lost me. It doesn't make any difference when you are signing a young player, how many 16/17 Brazilians have played in 75% of international matches (Rafael and Fabio at Man Utd). What you've posted is just general rules for gaining a UK work permit, there's a lot more to it when it's a youngster.}

I was pointing out that Wannyama is from Kenya they are way below 70 in the world rankings! And if you look at our history with needing work permits Mizuno! we got a work permit for him showing YouTube videos of his skills trying to prove he was a player of massive talent and had more ability than what we have in our country, skills we as Celtic fans never seen! My point is I could show you hundreds of YouTube videos of young Brazilians with amazing skills, player with massive potential surely if we got a work permiit for Mizuno then it wouldn't be hard to get a work permit for Gifted Brazilian.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's not how it works though.}

If it was simple to buy young highly skilled Brazilians or other South American players at a low price and pay them relatively low wages I am sure P L
would know about it, and he would be doing it . The Celtic Board and P L do want the best talent they can afford at Celtic .
I also think they are not bad at their job .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - The situation with work permits is that a player will be granted one if (a) he has played 75% of games at full international level for two years for a country ranked reasonably high up by FIFA (top 75), or (b) if an exemption is applied for and granted under the "exceptional talent" provisions. For example, if a case is made to the authorities that a young South American is a demonstrable talent and clearly one for the future, it should be reasonably easy to have an exemption granted. If however, a pretty much run of the mill or average player was being bought and it was clear they are not appreciably better than those which could be found locally, or are being bought because they are cheap, then it will be much more difficult to obtain a work permit. The downside of the system in the UK is that the "bigger" English clubs can cherry pick the decent talent available and can obtain exemptions, and the rest of the players are assumed not to be talented enough for an exemption (as Chelsea or Manchester United etc. don't want them) and therefore obtaining the exemption is much tougher. Some players can obtain work permits through their parents or grand parents being English.}

A possible way around work permit rules, would be to re-establish a feeder club link with a team in Belgium. Send the player/players on loan untill they qualify for eu citizenship. It would only be viable if the player was a prospect for future

Agree0 Disagree0

Dn30 do you not think the cost of establishing a feeder club in Belguim would be prohibit . The youngster in Belguim who is outstanding at 16, may very well be not such a bright star at 20.
The problem in England and Scotland seems to me that too many of the brightest teenage stars lose direction by finding out about wèe lassies and alcohol . We have to get the parents in the West of Scotland to lock up their daughters 😋😆😎

Markie I agree that we should put hearts under as much pressure as possible and a 4•3•3 formation would do that we're a much better side than hearts and should play with no fear let's go for the jugular in this game and play with some style its time for the team to give the support a boost and perform to the level we expect.our players have the ability and should have the confidence to win this game .

I think many Celtic supporters of my era appreciated Arthur Montford. On Scotsport he came across as fair and honest. He was a fervent fan of Scotland and his match commentary was always heart on the sleeve stuff. A gentleman and a sportsman. RIP.
Regarding tomorrow - I really hope we can turn it on and achieve a memorable victory, to win with goals to spare. You'll notice I said hope, because I'm not at all confident, but I know we are capable. We will however have to our best for 90 mins start to finish, no letting up, just go for the jugular.

I would like to see a 4-3-3 with JG up front with Griffiths and Forrest, brown, Johannson, kayal in the middle. If those 3 all play well together they could potentially be a reall handful for any defence. Forrest and Griffiths can drop into midfield very easily to if we are struggling in there. Come on boys let's turn it on tomorrow. maybe tomorrow's the day we turn the corner lol! Markie

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Why not give our Team Creator/Formations App a bash, MB.}

Thanks edd, I'll give it a shot. Markie

Agree0 Disagree0

Team for tomorrow will be crucial I think. Tight pitch and the jambots well up for it, off the pitch as well, will probably mean a 100 MPH start. I hope Lustig is fit as Matthews has been very disappointing and Izzy remembers he is a defender first. A real chance to put a marker down here by giving them a good going over.Play at the tempo we showed second half midweek and I would think we will be ok

Agree0 Disagree0

That's what I'd like to see Markie. Would rather see us giving Griffiths a run over Stokes (his time is up for me). Forrest causes more problems to defences than anybody else we've got. I think Wakaso has quality, but hasn't had a decent run. Perhaps he's not staying permanently. I'd like us to sign a quality cdm, noticed Rasmus Elm would be available on precontract in january, definitely got the quality and would fit in well with the Scandinavian contingent. We might have to make a few statements of intent though at the same time for players like that to sign. 2-3 players that should walk in our side is the way we should go year by year. Even if they're on "high" wages, there are plenty of decent freebies available all the time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Izzy must attack, even though he sent across some hopeless balls the other night, he also sent in two or three great balls . If Izzy sits back in defence we will be slaughtered down that side .
It's Izzy attacking that stops the opposition exploiting his weakness in defence and if he with the aid of Stokes or someone can keep them on the back foot, then we are controlling at least that side .

Celtic fans will get fed up with this lack of investment. It is already showing in the crowds. I remember when there was a waiting list for a season ticket. The fans will dwindle away not because we don't support our team. But if we as a club have no ambition then we have no dreams as a supporter.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Not an excuse mate but times are very hard for a lot of people right now.The pricing is another problem, but I thought the crowd on Thursday was weak to be honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not just the quality of our players that is causing the decline in attendance, it is also the paucity in our supporters pockets . Celtic more so than most other clubs have always had a large "working class" support from all over Scotland, England and Ireland . These people just cannot get to Celtic Park as often as they used to . It was really only for a short time that we had crowds over 55,000 at games. Our crowds now are better than they were before the surge .

The reason all contribute to this site is because we care about our club.it's a banter site and wouldn't be so if we all shared the same view and I have no doubt jungle Jim you care deeply about celtic but the manager has only been in the job a few months and it taking time to get his ideas across.I think the majority of supporters have shown patience even though and I agree that the product on display hasn't been the swashbuckling style of football we'd like to see however I believe given time it will come.also its always been difficult to keep top players at celtic when the big guns start calling and it was the same in the 60s and 70s but even more so today with the riches in other leagues. but that's life.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Bang on. Scotland is what is holding us back, no doubt about it, but we are stuck here and we have to deal with it.

Agree0 Disagree0

The biggest problem for Deila has been the amount of matches plus international breaks .
It's a long time since Deila has had 6/7 days between matches . He needs this time to impose his ideas on the players

Hi everybody, been reading these pages for a while, but first time user/poster on here. apologies in advance if post is too long.
Like all Celtic fans I am pleased we qualified but come January we will need to strenghten big time.
Hopefully a good enough package is offered to Guidetti to sign, according to recent remarks he has made it may happen.
As for Commons, I think Celtic have got the best out of him and I would sell him, it looks like Lennon may come in for him.
We need a permanent centre half and a central midfielder.
I was a fan of young McGregor but it is plain to all the fans he has gone off the boil and maybe even lost some confidence, Delia has been loyal to the young lad but maybe the boy needs a spell back in the U21's.
Ambrose no matter where he plays is poor so maybe put him out on loan, may be difficult as I think he is going to African Nations Cup in January.
The last Europa game in Zagreb I would play mostly fringe players as we have a tough schedule now up till our break in January. Players like Scepovic, Biton, Kayal, Twardzik, Fisher (if fit) Zaluska, Tonev (if not banned) all need game time, include Ambrose, Griffiths and maybe Wakaso and some of our under 21 squad.
Having made all these changes I am now going to contradict myself and advocate that
our manager must now figure out his best team and players and play a more settled team to get the understanding there among all the players.
Hopefully we are still in all competitions come the New Year and a settled team will make our task easier in lifting the trophies all Celtic fans want.
