just seen that clubs like Bournemouth you can't get a season ticket for less than 550 rising to almost a grand. Norwich you can't get one for less than 600 and arsenal is between 1100 and 2000. At celtic we win trophies every year or other year when there is a challenge. We can get a season ticket for 400 and a kids for 50. I am happy playing in scotland I just wish the game up here was run better. I think the game down there is over rated and inflated. If celtic had to join there league we may be better off but we could forget about trophies and prob Europe for a while. What does everyone else think

The cost of season books for the EPL teams you mention Garrybhoy1888 are a disgrace . Considering the amount of TV money they get , I would have thought they could have priced many of the season books at a level which the ordinary working man could afford .
As regards Celtic and whether they could complete at the top end of the EPL and play in Europe , I have little doubt if Celtic had two or three years of the EPL television money , with our stadium , training facilities and Deila and his enlarged back up team that he has brought to Celtic , added to our most important asset , our fans , we would soon go to the top.

I totally agree Chris! The asset your club has is its amazing supporters! Given a couple of years, I believe that celtic would well and truly hols their own and challenge the big 4 in ingerland. I truly believe that the EPL is scared to have Celtic in their competition because it would hurt them so much when celtic were taking European places away from ingerlish clubs!

I believe that two places should be made available for the two big clubs in Scotland! I think celtic would be OK but it may be a struggle for Aberdeen to compete at that level but I am sure with the funding that comes with the EPL they would get up there eventually.

But it would be great seeing Scotland's big two against the ingerlish big guns!

Whilst I think us in the EPL is nothing more than a pipe dream. I cannot disagree with the fact that with that level of extra financing Celtic would become a very strong force in the league.

However, due to the nature of that league would we as supporters be happy and see it as a victory finishing 4th in the league? Or maybe winning it every 6 years or so?, and that's probs being very generous. Could we live with mid table obscurity, hell even relegation battles? as it could easily happen down there regardless of what you spend. That said I think Celtic would be more frugal than most and make more sensible plans for sustained competitiveness in that environment than the likes of your Spurs or liverpools for example.

With the general charitable ethos within the support would we be happy seeing players on overinflated wages or potentially use our club as a cash cow and be an automaton only there for said pennies. Although is that any worse than now where generally speaking the best players we get in these days see us as a stepping stone to the EPL cash cows? And also you could describe some of the players we have had as overpaid and overrated without the EPL excess.

IMO the EPL has sucked a lot of what makes football good fun and turned it into some kind of strange reality TV show where the guy with the ugliest boots and haircut gets the biggest wage.

In terms of ticket prices those are a scandal, but the clubs down there (and up here) seem to act like they would quite happily turn those bums on seats to bums on sofas/bar stools because we all know the more money these unscrupulous televisual companies think they can get the bigger the prize for The supposed best league in the world.nthat said turnout at games seems to generally be quite good in the EPL so if they are selling them they ain't going to drop the prices.

I with you evinguu. Whilst I agree that we have a fantastic support and are a massive club. So are Liverpool what would there fans give to compete for the league every year even if it was in scotland. Manchester United are second only to Real Madrid on a global scale and they have struggled for 2 years spending a lot of there money on rubbish. Chris you mention rd do you think for a second celtic would hire rd if given the epl riches they would act like the others and take the big names. Guys like hiiddink Benitez ancelotti all the usual suspects. like I said the proper people running our game and we could have a successful league. Every year we have a chance to get to the cl every year we challenge to win the league. Every year almost we win a trophy. The English can scoff all they want but every club outside the top 5 would love to be able to say that. People should be carefull what they wish for. If celtic get into the cl and win the league and maybe a trophy who can complain at that. Better that than treading water

You can't argue that the EPL isn't a better spectacle but yeah clubs with the new sly deal could afford to make it more affordable for Joe Blogg. Supply and demand really.

Route of all issues Sky Tv. They really have killed the game. All about money now

30 May 2015 15:28:32
Garrybhoy , I don't think I said that I wanted to see Celtic in the EPL , I was merely saying that I had little doubt that with the massive set - ups we have here , a stadium holding something like 17,000 fan more than Liverpool and a manager with the foresight of R Deili we could more than hold our own .
As far as I am concerned the EPL is based on shaky foundations and could not survive without outside support I.e. Television money . The scenario that I really prefer is for the TV money that feeds the EPL dries up and that we return to a leveller playing surface . Scottish clubs may always struggle to match English clubs wages , but we will get close .
I cannot understand why people pay massive monthly payments to Sky and BT when there is perfectly reasonable broadcasts or screenings on the Internet .
If enough people decided to go the internet viewing way ,Sky and BT would soon show little interest in their blanket coverage .

Agree0 Disagree0

30 May 2015 15:28:38
I agree Jim it is supply and demand but if the money was shared out more evenly i.e. 10% of the total amount EPL get went to Scotland as 10% of the population of the UK we could afford better players for better viewing to other nations but sadly the powers that be in charge of our great game can't negotiate that sort of deal
It has taken them what 2/3 years? to get a sponsor for the league let alone get us a fair deal for TV rights
Never mind a new president for UEFA, We should be looking closer to home to get new people in to take us forward as a Nation

Agree0 Disagree0

30 May 2015 22:54:23
Tony, not sure how it works to be honest. Scotland might have 10% of the population but do they have 10% of viewers? I'd imagine it's 'disproportionate' somewhere but then there's the factor of the global appeal. Our bungling Association and sorry arsed press don't help. I mean, we don't have a sponsor. To think that were not even called the 'Pot Noodle Scottish Premiership or the 'Tunnocks SPL' is just embarrassing. Surely anything is better than nowt. No long term OR short term strategy.

I know it's never going to happen for various reasons but Danny Ings is a free agent and I don't think we would need to pay any development fees or anything like that we need a stand out CF should we not be at least trying? He's a cracking player!

SOSBHOY: You are so right, it will never happen. He will end up on £70-80k pw in the BPL easily.

Was it not Danny Ings that Spurs made a 12m bid for last week. 1 month before his contract ran out. Trying to get the chance to speak to him first and because they knew that when he is a free agent whoever gets him will have to compensate burnley. We would struggle to get players from the championship mate never mind guys who have scored eleven epl goals.

29 May 2015 23:31:57
It's possible SOS BHOY , that we have tried and could still be trying to sign Ings , unless of course we have been laughed at with a down payment of £5m and 25k per week .

Think the Spurs 12m bid is a lot of shite! Just a stupid news story! we need a CF of that quality and we should be right in about sitiutions like this yes we probably no sign him but the intent would be nice! He will end up on stupid money but we will probably end up with ciftci!

Is it just me that doesn't give a flying f**k? I mean, corruption is corruption yeah, it happens everywhere. There are bigger corruptions going on in this world as to where a football tournament is played. The FBI and US department of justice have room to talk too. As for the Swiss, don't get me started. I honestly couldn't give a toss where the world cup is held. The only people that do seem to are those that had losing bids. Perhaps they weren't willing to pay enough. Blatter is Universally hated, yet remains in power. But what do you expect when Germany has the same voting power as Gabon? The man is a dictator, simple as that. Why is it that dictators don't get overthrown? Because those that have he power to are just as corrupt. Can somebody give me a reason why they actually care? We complain enough about our governing body at home, and have improvements to be made in our own back yard never mind the rest of the globe. As long as Celtic keep on ticking. I couldn't care if the World Cup is held in Scotland or Suriname.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I'm not too interested in what's going on, JT. I was talking to Ed003 (a Blackpool fan) about it last night and he said he hopes the whole lot of it comes crashing down from FIFA and UEFA down to the EPL and the FL, the only reason I want to see UEFA changed is if it will give CFC a bigger slice of the money pie, maybe this could help with the case for a breakaway Euro league.
For me the CL is becoming boring and repetitive and is nothing more than a vehicle to make the same clubs money. I'm finding myself watching less and less of it and if things don't change I can see myself binning anything to do with it unless it involves CFC, I couldn't give a stuff what happens with World Cups and European Championships.
I don't see where the sudden outrage has came from, everybody's going off on one but nobody's actually said what changes they want to make or see made, get rid of Blatter and then what, get Platini who is just as bad? Is any of the changes going to have any noticeable effect on the Scottish game, are we going to see better players coming through, cheaper prices for supporters?}

29 May 2015 17:37:52
How is it free to air when you are forced to pay for a tv license if you want to watch it?

I agree jt, so what if the World Cup is in Qatar, the whole point of the World Cup is to take it worldwide and get every country interested in football.
I can't remember who said it (I think Andy Townsend, but Mexico World Cup was played in 110-120 + degree heat, as for the working conditions, it isn't right but unfortunately these things happen in these countries, I don't agree with it, but will still be there without a World Cup happening.

29 May 2015 18:43:27
Money goes to money. The same goes for football. The elite are protected and only grow more elite. And yeah Ed that is refclected in the CL. And most leagues for that matter. If only money wasn't part of football. If only money wasn't part of life. And look, in the midst of FIFAs biggest scandal the guy who has accepted responsibility is re-elected. "I like you. I like my job" he said, all is well and good then. He's not even really the problem. The greed of his subjects is the real cancer. There aren't many football men actually running the show. It really is a strange industry. Consider football, and consider FIFA. Which would last the longest without the other. I really can see a breakaway league. Certain clubs would be much better off, and so would the fans. And you know what, there isn't a single thing this 'FIFA' can do about it.

Jim Tim, I think the reason people are concerned about the World cup being held in Qatar, is the treatment of the workers who are being used to build the stadiums in that country.
If you want to ignore the corruption, then fair enough, but if that corruption is costing people their lives then surely something needs to be done.
There has been dozens if not hundreds of deaths there and the tournament is still 7 years away, at the present rate what will the final death toll be?.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Aren't the numbers being bandied about are actually deaths in ALL construction works going on in Qatar since they were awarded the WC? An example is that over 200 migrant Indian workers died in Qatar in 2010 - before the World Cup announcement. If so it paints a very different picture and either way surely that's down to Qatar and not FIFA?
In the United States in 2012, 4,383 workers died through accidents at work and according to data from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and Bureau of Labor Statistics, an average of 15 workers die from traumatic injuries each day in the USA with an additional 200 workers are hospitalised.
If England were awarded the WC would there be an outrage over the British Establishments ongoing paedophile cover-up, people working for zero hour contracts, people dying over benefit sanctions etc, would all those things become FIFA's problems as well, or would they all be FIFA's fault?}

29 May 2015 20:21:03
Don't know how that is down to FIFA gerry. Sure FIFA should be concerned, but that is all. Not held accountable.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2015 21:01:43
Ed I haven't said the World cup should be held in England or the United states.
FIFA can't influence how the British or US governments run their affairs, so that's not the issue.
They can affect the situation in Qatar though, as the tournament was awarded to them because of corruption within FIFA.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - Every tournament is awarded through corruption so what's suddenly changed? I still don't know what people are complaining about, even you've not explained why you're so upset about it. It all just sounds like sour grapes from the English because they didn't win hosting it, so what exactly do you want FIFA to do and what have they done wrong?
I mentioned England as an example of would you expect FIFA to get involved in what I mentioned if the WC was down there, why is Qatar so different?
I'm not surprised to see that Qatar is a Muslim country - but I'm sure that's got nothing to do with it when it comes to the British press reporting on it.}

29 May 2015 23:55:25
Didn't Tony Blair spend the days leading up to the awarding of the London Olympics bribing everyone he could to get their vote .
I cannot see how you won't have corruption if you have a group of people who hold the power to award such a sought off competition as the World Cup.
Bribery and political decisions will always muddy the awarding these highly sought after events . Blatter is becoming more and more a figure of hate in the English media.
I don't think much of him, but would an English, French German or a man from the United States be any different

Agree0 Disagree0

30 May 2015 12:19:06
There was 73 countries who voted against Blatter in the FIFA election, so it's a lot more than just England or the US who think the corruption is getting out of hand.
When London was awarded the Olympics, the workers who built the venues were subject to health and safety rules, there were very few if any deaths involved in the construction of these sites.
In the same way, people who visited London for the games had no restrictions put on them, they had freedoms to practice whatever faith they wanted to, they could be gay or straight, and they had complete freedom to say what they liked.
You can't say that about Qatar, and I don't think until they start treating their people a bit more humanely, that world cups or Olympics should be given to these countries.
Ed your argument about sour grapes from the English press doesn't hold either, as England didn't bid for the 2022 World cup, their bid was for the 2018 tournament which is in Russia.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - And what has any of that to do with FIFA? You're blaming them for pre-existing problems in Qatar. And I am a fully accredited NEBOSH H&S Inspector so I know the laws. Until you, or anyone else, provides figures about deaths solely on construction at WC venues you have no arguement, in 2012 there was 150 deaths in the UK due to work related accidents, we need to count that in as Olymic deaths and that's just during the actual Olympics event, how many deaths were there in the years they were building the ONE stadium?
While our MPs and the Royal family stop raping and killing kids I don't think any British team should be allowed to play in any WC or Champions League, including CFC. Or is that ok because people.}

30 May 2015 15:13:45
Ed If this country is as bad as you say it is, why don't you go and live in Qatar?
I am entitled to express an opinion that FIFA shouldn't award the world cup to countries that treat their people in such a poor way, I don't know why this annoys you so much.
You don't have to agree with me, that's entirely your right, but don't forget, at least in this country you have the right to your opinion, in these countries, you would be thrown in jail or worse, if you were to make any criticism of the authorities.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Is that your dummy on the floor? Am I not allowed to express my opinion?

Garryc . I enjoyed many of your comments and actually agreed with some . However

Gerryc I hate to point out that you are wrong .
The vote was 133 for Blatter and 73 for Prince .
Nowhere in the reporting of the vote did it , number how many voted against Blattee and against Prince.
The anti FIFA and anti Blatter media , mostly in England and the United States, because they wanted to stage the 2018 and 2022 respectively are trying to promote as much Shiite as possible against Blatter and FIFA and so they report Prince's vote as an anti Blatter vote , instead of a pro Prince vote . Prince must feel bad enough getting only 73 votes without some people labelling them as antu Blatter .
How could anyone expect FIFA not to be corrupt when we look at how corrupt its constituent parts are , the parts we know best , in Scotland and England and the N of Ireland .
