Lewis Morgan looked the business tonight against Dundee United. Two cracking goals and at 300K definitely one for the future.

If allegation is true about Maddens gambling issues, and having a season ticket in his name at Ibrox, how can he possibly be allowed to handle this game tomorrow?, this wouldn't happen in any other country, not even Italy, where cheating and corruption has been admitted.

I see there is a thumbs-down on this post. What is it you disagree with?
I wish people who clicked that option would at least comment on why they disagree.

They sure were Vinnie. Great to see the attention of big move is not affecting his game. I'm assuming it's just a matter of time before we announce him.

29 Dec 2017 23:07:47
Think so Stan. and mcoist and Rae telling us how good he is while the looks on their ugly mugs clearly gutted he's coming to us and no them was a wee brucey bonus too.

You have to laugh that even their own don't want to manage or play for them Vinnie.

What I want to see is Jean Kevin Duverne and Lovro Majer in the hoops. Both players heavily linked and we have shown interest according to reports. Both them fit the bill of players we need and are ready to step into the first team squad.

Both heavily linked in previous windows but haven't seen a thing about them now other than on here.

Team for tomorrow for me would be;

Gordon
Lustig, Boyata, Ajer, KT
Sinky, Brown, Ncham, Forrest
Griff just behind
Dembele

Thoughts?

30 Dec 2017 01:12:41
No sinky, or Forrest mc greg into middle with Brown and Ncham tight and grafting

Armstrong in front of them then griff and Dembele up front

They will crowd midfield .
Balls over the top will pay dividends.

No Forest! Really? He has arguably been our best player and most consistent goal threat. For me he is a guaranteed starter.

Armstrong must start tomorrow. great runs into the danger zone . agree?

All the regulars on here will be pleased to know I am not putting up horse tips for Saturday, no keeping my powder dry until bigger meetings on Ne'er Day and January 2nd.
No instead I am putting up my tips against the new club, some of which have kept me in profit.
Recently, I have been betting on the player bookings market, and unsurprisingly the wee clown Jack has served me well, if he plays tomorrow lump on him at 10/ 11 (short odds but that is because he almost always gets booked)
Another player who I have made a few bob from is the young lad McCrorie, earlier in the season I was getting 7/ 2 or better, but a string of bookings have seen the bookies cut his odds to evens, but worth a punt. As is big Alves at 10/ 11.
A penalty is only 2/ 1 but again with Madden refereeing almost nailed on.
A sending off is 5/ 2 but a DOUBLE sending off is 16/ 1 I fancy a punt on that.
For us sadly, I can see Lustig, Boyata and Brown getting booked, especially Lustig odds 2/ 1.

29 Dec 2017 23:01:17
All key players will be in the book early so they're walking on a tightrope for the rest of the game. The penalty issue is a concern and I fear for the passing of Boyata and Gordon I just hope neither costs us a goal as a penalty and red card could kill us.

Been watching re-runs on Sly today of games vs TRIFC and I understand why the manager doesn't fancy Sviatchenko. When ever they got chances ( which was rare) he seemed to be at the heart of it giving it away or doing something stupid. With Sviatchenko looking like he is on his way to Copenhagen and Compper signed it would be good to see another quality defender coming in along with a class goalie. Albin Lafont from Toulouse is regarded as one of the best in Europe and is only 20yrs old I think but would probably cost a small fortune. Hopefully everyone is having a great holiday period so far. Given the proposed investment in a hotel is anybody aware whether the club has ever discussed a rail station at Parkhead Forge as Belgrove and Cartyne are a fair trek and transport links to Celtic Park are horrendous and we're a key consideration for re-location when we were rebuilding the stadium? It would be on the line between Scotlands largest two cities and would massively alleviate current congestion problems which are getting worse and making driving a nightmare. 'The next stop is for The Forge and Ceasers Palace please Mind the Gap Huns when alighting from this train sounds good to me.

So I guess there will be plenty like myself having a "snow day" today, unable to get out of the house. (Do NOT get me started on British failure to cope with a wee bit of snow, everything grinds to a blooming halt)
So I wanted to have a debate on our plans for the new hotel and club shop.
Yesterday one "financial expert" on here said way to go was to BORROW MORE MONEY. Yes we will follow Sevco example.
Another called it a "white elephant" Do people not realise when hotel is up and running, it will generate a long term income stream for the club.
I posted yesterday that the Board is in a unique position just now in that we have extra funds coming our way.
Our CL exploits will give club £25m+ and then the Europa League will top this up, even if only the one extra game the club should earn another £5m. Add on the Van Dijk fee let's be modest and say another £5m, this is extra money not budgeted for. IF, Dembele goes either in January or the summer, the club will earn, again let's be modest and say £18m quoted (yes I expect more also) If as expected Shviachenko moves for £2m, the club will be in a really good financial place.
So my reasoning is, why borrow money, totting up more debt, when we have surplus cash to fund transfers, fund our hotel development, fund our youth programme and still have more than enough to run club professionaly, paying all expenses entailed of a big organisation like what we have become.
Over to you guys now on your thoughts.

It could be a while before we qualify for champs league again Tim I’m sure the format is changing so we could end up facing the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea in the qualifying rounds so wouldn’t be wise for us to borrow any money against the hope of getting into the champs league I don’t know why anyone was describing the hotel as a white elephant as I can’t see any downside to it on the long run. We still have overheads and player recruitment to think about from all the money aswell but the club shop is worth its weight in gold it’s been going like a fare the last few weeks and always seems to be busy in game days.

Agree1 Disagree2

29 Dec 2017 13:36:17
It's certainly no white elephant. I was speaking to a mate who works in the hotel trade and she reckons (feel free to correct/ add here) that a 3/ 4 star standard hotel can look to make 10 to 15k a year per room. I don't know how many rooms are planned but keeping it modest like Tim, say 150, plus the bar and restaurant and this could make us 2-3m a year. People might prefer to see the VVD money spent straight on a player but this is a much better investment that would last longer than any player and as Tim says, we don't quite need to borrow to do it.

Agree3 Disagree1

29 Dec 2017 13:41:56
If we bank all that then we would need to pay top rate of tax on it.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2017 13:41:59
People seem to think it's only Celtic and our fans that will use it which it not true.

Agree0 Disagree4

29 Dec 2017 14:02:12
I don't think we'll come up against Liverpool or Chelsea Campsiebhoy. They will get an automatic place and the Champions route will still be in place, we could come up against the Champions of Switzerland or Czech Republic and that's why it will be harder, though we could be seeded and miss them.
Timalloy I haven't heard of plans to borrow for the building of the Hotel, however we're in a position where we could easily afford repayments if we did do so, as we have very little debt and it's not as if we need loans to keep the lights on.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2017 14:23:03
A thought the seeded part was being removed isleogreen we could also see about soft loans if nothing else.

29 Dec 2017 14:54:46
Hi Timalloy / JT

In terms of the hotel it is to be a 180 rooms any hotel to run at average at 70 % capacity through out the year how much is an average room for a decent hotel in Glasgow is what £60?

You are looking at a turnover in excess of £2.75million without even factoring in wining/ dining, conferences, weddings etc.

It would be useful to have some debt attached to it because the debt should be self financing and is subject to tax relief but make no doubts about it, it will be a major money spinner

I spoke to Campsiebhoy about this a long while back it is such a shame that Lennoxtown Hospital was not more accessible IMO in the grounds we had, To have don't that up Celtic would have had a hotel in the mould of Cameron House / Skibo castle IMO and the prospect of our team staying there pre any big cup / euro game would have been top notch IMO.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Dec 2017 15:28:50
it will be a big empty white elephant slap bang in one of the most deprived areas of europe.

Agree4 Disagree2

29 Dec 2017 15:38:09
@Jamiebhoy, like you I believe the hotel will be a money spinner. Think of all the Celtic fans who travel from Ireland England Wales (Welsboy lol) who instead of staying in hotels in glasgow city centre would stay at the club hotel. Then I would imagine there will be fans wanting to hold wedding receptions etc there. Celtic could do a package also of tickets for big games plus rooms at the hotel
Outwith Celtic fans, just across the road is the other big indoor stadium, which holds various sporting events and attracts big crowds, surely they would use the hotel also.
I heard also there would be conference facilities, another potential big earner.

Agree2 Disagree1

29 Dec 2017 16:39:31
There is no way that the hotel will be a money spinner, out with Celtic supporters who would want to stay in and around Celtic Park. Let’s be honest it’s not the nicest of areas.

29 Dec 2017 18:15:22
You also have the Emirates arena close by and I am assuming you would get traffic from that.

29 Dec 2017 20:10:24
Location, location, location.

Who in their right mind would pay 4star prices so far from the city centre in probably the most depressing part of Glasgow? If its going for the £40 a night market then maybe and even then you have additional costs getting anywhere you want to be.

If its 4 star it will die on its arse. Even at £40 a night I wouldn't go out there unless its a game and even then again, stuck out there miles from restaurants and pubs you don't need to fight your way out of.

Nah yer awright.

They have obviously done sums regarding the football market. Unless its cheap then tourists won't touch it.

Agree1 Disagree2

29 Dec 2017 22:26:53
It's 5 minutes in a taxi or car from the city centre, how would that put anyone off?

Agree0 Disagree2

29 Dec 2017 23:38:05
A tenner each way. Waiting on a taxi. How many city breaks do you go on where you ask to be located in a mad area that is miles away from anywhere you actually went there to see?

That's the reality.

If it's competing with the travel inns, then you add £20 and the hassle to go somewhere you ain't going to go for a late night stroll, twice.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2017 11:55:29
With the snow coming down is there any chance the game will be postponed, obviously the pitch will have under soil heating but the surrounding areas can be deemed unsafe for supporters. Plus with travel for both sets of fans would it come down to a police decision?

Ed any word if we are going for Roberts or Edouard on a permanent basis? Especially with the VVD money.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - No.}

29 Dec 2017 10:26:26
Ed, do you think Lewis Morgan will be brought in earlier with the injuries we now have to Roberts and Hayes. Been reading the plan is to loan him back to St Mirren until the end of the season. We have Johnstone as back up for Sinclair and has done very well but no one to push Forrest now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - St Mirren would just stop any deal being finalised if we tried to bring Morgan in during January. The whole deal relies on Morgan staying there so they would either pull out of the deal for now or want a lot more money to let him leave next month.}

29 Dec 2017 11:32:44
I like the sound of Morgan because people who watch him say he’s very direct and wants to go straight at the full back. The fact he’s impressing in Internationals bodes well too.

I always worry when a young player is called a wonder kid. There have been plenty of these over the years and only Tierney has come anywhere close to that.

To me this is a punt. Another project to go along with the other 58 we have right now. If he was anywhere near the wondered category there isn't a snowballs chance that he would be

a) be allowed to leave for £300k

b) He would come to us.

Hes a good player with potential, that's about it, let's not commit a Fulton.
