If we manage to bring in a quality CB what's people's thoughts on him starting against PSG? With Simunovic unable to play on plastic pitches and Hamilton being the only game before PSG we would be playing 2 CB's together for the first time. Have a feeling Rodgers won't risk that and possibly play 3 at the back with Lustig Simunovic and Tierney?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

30 Aug 2017 09:28:57
That's a really good point and a tough decision. I think it might depend on who the new centre-half is - if he is a a relatively inexperienced player, then I would definitely go with Lustig and Simunovic and maybe, as you say, revert to a three with Tierney.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2017 09:51:02
Think a 3 would give neymar far to much room at left side.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2017 10:35:42
Would Gamboa be used with the pace he has?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2017 12:32:30
Tricky one isn't it, Was thinking 3 would give Neymar a field day but if we play 4 at the back maybe Gamboa, Lustig, Simunovic and Tierney? Or would Bitton get the nod against the likely inbound Mbappe?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2017 15:37:20
Has gamboa even played a minute of pre-season. Young Ralston has surely jumped him I the cue.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2017 18:20:01
I don't think Rodgers sees him in his plans seems to have turned his attention to bringing through Ralston. But a CL debut against Neymar is probably a bit too much too soon if I'm honest.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2017 07:41:15
Definitely depends if he has cl experience or even played in a top league.

Looks like it was Man City unwilling to sell rather than PR7 being unwilling to sign a permanent deal. ☘️.

I think I saw this name a few weeks ago but ed do you think Danny ings on loan is a possibility?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - No.}

29 Aug 2017 19:53:12
Think he was pretty gd for them last year n scored some important goals.

My reply was meant for the thread below regarding Shane long.

29 Aug 2017 18:46:38
Shane Long? Just a rumours i've seen after typing Celtic into google. Dunno if he is still good or not but used to be a cracking player from what I remember. HH.

Newcastle have made Dwight Gayle available. That would be an excellent signing but probably a bit rich for our taste?

Believable1 Unbelievable3

29 Aug 2017 18:39:57
Dwight Fayle - he can stay where is.

English, over rated and plays in EPL so probably valued at £20 million.

Agree3 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 23:52:59
Agree with both Kevs English exaggeration will mean he'd cost an arm and a leg. But very tidy player liked him at Palace and not seen him for Newcastle but reckon he would run riot in a decent team with a bit of a confidence injection. Too expensive though could buy a lot better with that outlay.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2017 06:47:51
Wrong they are only looking for 18 million for him 😆😆😆.

The proposed £8m coming our way should be treated like the windfall it is, not included in the running costs of the club. I get my wages to pay for my mortgage and bills. Sometimes a wee win at the bookies comes my way and I never use the money for the household accounts. I go out and blow it on goodies. Come on Peter, go buy some goodies!

Believable6 Unbelievable3

lawwell would sell his granny, there's cash by the millions stockpiled up there and he won't spend any of it, he's only interested in building hotels and the fat cat fans, he even awards himself a pay rise.

Agree11 Disagree1

29 Aug 2017 16:53:12
If a ch does not come in this window then we have missed the boat again and will put a real dampner on an otherwise excellent time to be a celtic fan, but if a ch and a keeper come in then celtic for me have the best squad iv witnessed so far🇮🇪😎.

Agree0 Disagree2

29 Aug 2017 19:25:56
Criticise PL all u want but we would not have a sniff of that kind of money if it wasn't for him.
So instead of criticising maybe u should praise him for the possibilty of it, typical fan tho spending the money before we get it.
I once knew a club that did that what happenened to them lol.

Agree5 Disagree2

29 Aug 2017 20:40:25
Rayman - I could see your point if Celtic actually had spent money and serious money at that but we don't and have not for a while.

Everyone knows a CH is needed to compliment Jozo - Lawell and BR say if needed we can pay big money

Well . guess what it is needed so get spending on a top CH for progress in Europe or we will be on the end of some proper beatings.

Agree2 Disagree1

29 Aug 2017 22:43:04
we've not spent last years yet, what's the point in having millions and not spending it on improving the team?

Agree3 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 23:19:58
With the windfall a decent chunk of it should be reinvested in raking in more potential profit. £4.5m for a really promising up and coming CB and hopefully in the long run he will follow in the footsteps of VVD and earn us a tidy sell on down the line.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Aug 2017 09:35:15
It seems as if we sit about then have a mad scramble which usually ends in feck all. It seems saying you will get players in prior to the qualifiers is only a saying. when teams know you have no time and a gaping hole in your team pushes up prices and reduces our ability to negotiate. Any way you look at that it's s balls up.

Lawell turning up with a bundle of fivers won't cut it. Or I should say, it doesn't if you are serious above moving up a level.

Hopefully for Lawell not getting the players in everyone knows we need, won't affect his bonus. That would be a real shame.

Agree2 Disagree1

29 Aug 2017 14:29:31
Don't get me wrong - as I'm extremely happy wee paddy is coming back albeit for one season; but a press call?
I sincerely hope this is not a smoke and mirrors stunt to deflect from the fact we have still not signed any permanent quality centre back, goalie or striker - even though BR and the team have again fulfilled their objective and reached the group stage and brought in a 'kings ransom' (pun intended) to Celtic football club.
The window is nearly closed and the board have to back the manager and let him continue improving the squad and I am sure there are several fringe players who could add even more to the coffers if they need to balance the books.

Agree3 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 12:54:56
Hi Ed, just wondering if you think the skirtle rumour is feasible, think he would be a great acquisition but don't see it materialising.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I know that some places were linking us with him along with Man City ( I know but remember they're after Jonny Evans), Newcastle and Swansea earlier this summer but if he was leaving Fenerbahce I think it would have happened by now.
Skrtel's only been in Turkey a year but he was being linked with a move away because Fenerbahce breached FFP Regs last year and it was thought he would need to be sold but with only days to go it doesn't look like that's true though that's not to say a move won't materialise.}

29 Aug 2017 12:50:37
First of all welcome back Paddy we need your skills for CL, but like many I do like another loan, I heard Celtic have paid a loan fee of £3m not good business in my eyes.
Secondly, I have always been a sceptic where Lawwell and transfer money is concerned. Again we are down to last couple of days and once again "promises of two more signings" sorry guys but why does the bold Peter leave everything so late, answer if NOBODY comes in he can say "not enough time" or "paperwork was submitted but Uefa never worked fast enough" remember last season a supposed transfer fell through because of this very excuse.
If anything I expect players to LEAVE in next couple of days (Shviacenko and Hayes) NOT come in.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

29 Aug 2017 13:36:03
Here's hoping you're right about Hayes. I would loan him back to the Dons.

£1.3m doon the pan.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 13:52:25
He's not going to be signed and sold in the same window.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 14:32:12
Hayes seems like a pig in a poke so far and I suppose we are stuck with him until he proves me wrong or gets punted. I think we should get on the phone to the Dons and claim there was a misunderstanding about the Christie loan and claim we thought they said Ciftci!

Agree4 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 09:53:49
What's everybody's thoughts on Kundai Benyu? I wasn't able to make the Lyon game but from what I hear he was excellent and that's why BR made a U-turn on loaning him out. Since then I'd say he's looked rough round the edges and it would maybe do him some good to go out and get a decent amount of game time which I can't really see him getting here, especially with Paddy back.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

29 Aug 2017 10:31:31
I like the lad Kev I think he can make a big contribution this season. He should have started on Saturday against St Johnstone and we should have rested some players who had played against Astana. I think the criticism of Benyu after the Killie game was unjustified and wrong. He has settled in quickly and I hope we see more of him rather than putting him out on loan. Between SPL CL and cup games we need to use the squad which is the best its been in a long time with everyone capable of making a contribution when needed.

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 10:37:49
i think he should be loaned out to an spl team kev, got the wings covered now with paddy back, think youll see hayes play where he did for aberdeen, sinclairs back up so to speak.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Aug 2017 10:56:41
I agree bhoy wonder I would loan him out to an SPL team for at least 6 months, league the bhoy play every week and get used to the rough and tumble of the spl.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 13:00:56
Certainly don't think a loan would harm him if he's not getting game time. Just have to look a what Christie is doing at Aberdeen he's their best player.

29 Aug 2017 13:57:47
I really hope christie gets a chance with us Stan, anytime i've seen him he stands out.

So after sitting down reading what hoops88 said about Brendan I got up early today to go speak to some of my journal contacts. And it appears the rumours we have been hearing is true, Rodgers is supposedly been approached by Italian team Atalanta. And there is talks of us getting either tommy Wright (Which in my opinion will lead us in to top 8 CL which Brendan never will! ) or David Moyes which is the last person we need to get us more fines than those trouble makers that get us fines every game
Of the champions league! I really hope we sign Mark Durnan from Dundee Utd like I've heard about the rumours because our performance was not good enough at the weekend and a New keeper is needed Craig Gordan isn't a Celtic goal keeper I think he's on they zombie sevcos pay books!

So we are insane because we don't believe what some guy said on the internet? Na your insane pal putting all yer cash on it! so BR just walks from us for Atlanta? It's not going to happen, Arsenal or a club of that stature maybe not some average Italian team!

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 18:05:28
M8 I'm as gutted as you are about this we all will be but it is understandable they have much more money than we do, not a champions league team or not they will can pay Him more and with how well he has done for us he could make them at least a top 16 CL team! I wish him all the luck when he goes I'm just glad we're getting Big Tam Wright in his place, I couldn't accept moyes at all I've heard he's maybe going to be the manager but we got to put our foot down for our club! HH.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 06:19:08
This transfer window could turn out to be one of the best we've ever had. If as reported Liverpool have had a bid of 81 million accepted for VVD the money we'll receive on the 10% sell on clause along with the champions league money we're guaranteed, that's a s##t load of dough for a club from our league, not to mention the signing of ncham, Roberts and holding onto our main players, if we can add another quality CB and Striker to the squad by close of play Thursday I'll be over the moon. Come on Celtic make it happen.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

29 Aug 2017 09:28:22
It's not really getting money that's the problem at Celtic. It's spending it when we are in a position of strength that has always been our Achilles.

This window has been less than reassuring so far. We still have no CB or fullback. That's a worry.

I would also like us to buy a keeper. I wonder if Boruc would come back. 😄.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes he would.}

29 Aug 2017 09:42:11
I'll be waiting until Friday morning before I decide how I feel about this window. Let's not forget the club have taken millions off us already in ST and CL qualifiers and are set to take millions more from the CL package. In fact the CL tickets will probably cover all our transfer fees and then some. Add the VVD money and CL group windfall I'm looking for a serious CB and striker brought in.

Agree2 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 10:02:35
Well said Kevbhoy. The club have plenty of money now champion league is confirmed. Plus if the VVD transfer goes through we will get serious money. We need to get in a serious CB ASAP. Hopefully a new CF and goalkeeper to put pressure on gordon or replace him.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 11:11:20
You are forgetting paying of the co-op loan. Also millions owed to DD.! That's where our cash goes😂😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2017 11:13:44
Totally agree kev! I've said before that I'm always a pessimist when it comes to our transfer dealings! Delighted that paddy is back but if Thursday comes and we've brought nobody else in I'll not be happy! CB and cover up front is a must! And I still think we need another left back to cover and compete with KT! Rate the boy miller but for me we need a natural left back in there! As superhuman KT is we can't expect a boy of 20 to play every game this season without some sort of burn out! So I'll wait til Thursday nite before deciding if we've done aswell as we should have done on the transfer from front! U still expecting another 2 players to come in ED?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Aug 2017 23:56:11
CQN reporting that Liverpool have had an £81m bid accepted by Southampton for VVD £££££ hopefully we can get in a decent CB now we've got some extra cash coming in.

28 Aug 2017 23:40:42
Bid for Van Dyke been accepted by Southampton from Liverpool for £81 million our cut should be somewhere between £7 and £10.5 million depending on % of sell on fee. Should be a lot more money for Brendan.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

29 Aug 2017 02:38:02
I am still confident (but only just) that we will sign another CB and a CF before the window shuts. If it doesn't happen I hope that it's only because the players don't want to come not that we are unwilling to pay a fair price.

Agree0 Disagree2

29 Aug 2017 02:46:09
I heard it was 10%. Just over £8 million coming our way.

Agree0 Disagree2

It's 10% of the profit Southampton make so nearer 6 million me thinks? Still a good scoop hopefully put towards a good striker maybe left sided defender?

Now isn't it strange that the press and experts believe that it's a 15% sell on clause equating to 10 million and yet the experts on here claim it's 10% now who do I believe mmmmmm I wonder.
