Use our rumours form to send us celtic transfer rumours.

28 Sep 2016 23:38:26
After less than 4 months Brendan Rodgers has given most of us hope that Celtic are on the way to something good . We not only took on what is currently the best team in the EPL and shared 6 goals equally, but we carried the game to them tried to play football for the whole game . To me we have two major areas to improve our defensive set- up and the over- all fitness of our squad .
We just hadn't the legs troops mount or sustain an attack in the final minutes .

Believable3 Unbelievable7

29 Sep 2016 01:09:59
I agree with the defensive problems. But the fitness is something the we will not be able to improve with players we have. They gave their all and couldn't ask for more. But chasing balls down at the intensity they did took it out them.

Agree2 Disagree2

29 Sep 2016 21:04:18
Madyin67 Surely time will build up fitness Brendan's game plan requires maximum levels of fitness . Brendan is picking the players he knows will strive for this fitness level, it will take time but it will, come.

Old bhoy
I'm not sure players do get fitter and fitter and fitter and fitter and fitter and cover more and more and more km per game. I don't think it works like that. I used to think it did. I think the improvements from a good base is marginal and the very best find the marginal improvements consistently and also know how to play the game and where to play the game ( otherwise known as game intelligence )

We need to learn to play smarter.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Sep 2016 22:19:01
Paradisewon. I imagine when we play the top club in Germany Spain England and France they will all out smart us and probably out pass us for much of the game, the one area we might be able to better them is out work them if Brendan can get our players to a new level of fitness and determination . No team likes their back four to be pressurised along with their goalie and they can crack and their confidence drop.

Just watching the highlights on STV, was working backshift so missed the game. Tomorrow is the time to dissect the performance. Tonight, I am one very proud Tim as that didn't do our reputation any harm at all. Monthehoops!

I'm the same. I was working tonight. Few runthroughs from the floor to the kitchen to celebrate then the news of being pegged bag. Hopefully someone will stick the whole game on YouTube or it will appear on dcsports.

Agree2 Disagree1

29 Sep 2016 00:03:06
I watched the game and highlights and although there are faults to ponder at the three goals conceded, there can be no doubt that our team selection and tactics got a hell of a performance and result.

OK we never kept the lead as long as we wanted, but we went in front three times against one of the most expensively, assembled sides ever, who are the very cream of 'the worlds best league'.

The atmosphere, fighting spirit, character and attacking philosophy have all been returned to our beloved team thanks to Brendan Rogers and no wonder Celtic Park is the envy of world football on nights like this with such an atmosphere and belief.
Scott Brown was as good as I have ever seen him and his leadership and graft inspired the rest to an amazing level.

Rogic, Schiavchenko, Forrest, Dembele, Tierney and Sinclair were also exceptional, while others were not too far behind.
If only we had a class keeper between the sticks, we may have won; but most of us would have bitten your hand off for a performance and result like tonight going by the gulf in finances, experience and on the back of our nou camp nightmare.

Agree4 Disagree2

29 Sep 2016 00:58:17
11 in 67, if we never had a class keeper between the sticks we would have lost that game, did u not see his last minute save?
What goals are u blaming him for?

Agree3 Disagree3

29 Sep 2016 08:55:33
City just paid 18mill for there keeper and he was hopeless CG is a good keeper and bringing Doris in has proved that he is better than what we can get. Fantastic performance by every tim on the pitch and in the stadium. I'm lookin forward to the next cl match already. HH BHOYS.

Do you think De Vries is the best we could get Greg?

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 11:53:44
Gordon was at fault for their third goal to parry a shot to the penalty spot is footballing suicide, if he had made the same mistake against the Germans we would all be up in arms.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 17:44:21
dundeebhoy, Aguero shot from 6-7 yards away and low to his right hand side what's he supposed to do, it was just an instinctive save he had no control over the rebound he wasn't even attempting to put it round the post as it was almost impossible. All he can do is save it and hope his defence help him out.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 22:11:25
Rayman99 . Give a goalie a bad name and someone will jump in to blame him sooner or later . As u said he did well to save the close in shot and got the ball pushed quite far out, he couldn't have done more and I know he himself with be well pleased at how the night went.

Outstanding tonight, chuffed is an understatement! A point from tonight tho that not many have picked up on, I felt Pep Guardiola was actually very bitter in the interview afterwards. No credit was giving at all! Tell you what Pep!, how about we give you 20mill to get a squad together and Brenden gets 420 million like what your team cost and we will see what the score is! You can't BUY dig and determination! HH!

Believable7 Unbelievable0

28 Sep 2016 23:31:55
Thought Pep was fine. Said it was a very difficult place to come, quoted our record (which is amazing) and commented o. The balance of play inter last 25 minutes city should have won. Not sure I have a robust argument him to be honest. We tired after 60 minutes and hung on a bit. Certainly not bitter imo.

28 Sep 2016 23:42:44
I prefer that, than some patronising pish you sometimes hear, we gave them a game tonight, it's the city fans that are bitter.

Credit to Sutton for saying how English epl league looks down on us yet we are the biggest challange to city who haven't lost. Even though we don't have 1/ 10th of the money they get, all their big names &. shiating on Scottish football, yet we lead city 3 times and it took 2 mistakes that helped them back into the game.

Need more ppl talking up our league and our club! We deserve more respect! They would be scared if we got the money they do.

It's great to see that BR has a game plan. Maybe he can make Celtic Park a fortress again. Man City are a very good side as we all can see how they are winning every game on the EPL. No one has taken 3 goals off them this season. They are one of the best teams in Europe so we are improving under BR and whilst we won't get 2nd place, Europa league football after Christmas is a big possibility.

here's a thought - stick him on for the last 50 minutes.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 22:18:51
Digibanger Rogic this season gets stuck in and displays his vast range of skills in the first half when everyone is at their best . It's remarkable what he contributes in the first half through his skill strength and determination when the opposition are at their best, Armstrong or no one else could put in such a determined effort and get the same results as T R achieves in first half . Armstrong even struggled last night even when the English tired.

28 Sep 2016 22:22:46
On paper our side cost 20 million but without a doubt it will take at least 15 million each to buy young Teirney and young Dembele.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

28 Sep 2016 23:08:54
Id want at least 20m for dembele. And his stock is rising.

Dembele will go for Β£20 mill plus. He will score as many goals as Henrik. This Bhoy is class.

He won't stay long enough for that.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Sep 2016 23:57:57
Dembele i can't speak highly enough of him if he sticks around long enough he could be one of the greatest to wear the hoops what a player that tackle as well towards the end shows his work rate as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2016 22:19:59
Well we've got some pride back in Europe with that performance tonight. well done boys.
Now if somebody can get Tom Rogic to last 90 minutes we'll be some team. lol.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

28 Sep 2016 22:04:30
So, brilliant stuff, great game and the first 45 mins were breathtaking. Happy with the result, and think the breaks/ decisions/ deflections etc evened themselves out.

However, Rogic was breathing out of his arse after 35 mins, and whilst he looks a great player week in week out, we can't continually be subbing someone at half time (or thereabouts) . Surely he is more effective coming on for the last 30 minutes than struggling for the first 60.until we get his fitness sorted out which better be soon!

Still, a good result, it was men vs men and really enjoyed the game. Need to get 25 Year old players fully match fit though! Waste of a jersey otherwise!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

28 Sep 2016 22:21:14
Need Rogic to start and last if not need Armstrong to step up believe he is capable not as good as Rogic but fitter.

Outstanding game tonight, it had it all n I thought the players were excellent, really proud tonight n credit to brendan, well chuffed for him.

Credit as always to us fans, said it to the missus as we were leaving the stadium, Celtic park rocking on a champions league night with us all right behind the team cannot be beaten.

I'm in the Lisbon lions stand n at times the man shity fans looked in awe at the sight of our famous atmosphere.
Roll with it at the end with both sets of fans singing was a good end to the night, Celtic first Celtic last Celtic overall, n it isn't impossible for us to get 2nd in this group, we shouldn't fear anyone we are the mighty Glasgow Celtic.
Hail hail.

29 Sep 2016 09:40:45
I agree Bigshaw - I listened to the patronising comments on to about how we had given ourselves a great chance of getting third please. Why is qualifying for the last 16 not even being considered by these people? I think there's a real chance!
And have to say it was a fantastic performance - I was wondering who was out top performer and then realised I had gone through the whole team making a case for them! Brilliant stuff.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 19:50:32
Spot on Andy, every player to a man was excellent, including the subs, heard some say Griff came on looking uninterested well he didn't look that way 2 me when he won a challenge in the air in the left back position.
As for this group I think we have a great chance to get 2nd spot, city r no great shakes, great players, manager etc but we were more than a match for them n I can see us taking 6 points at home, even 4 would be alright n look to get something in Germany then we could be in a last game play off with city for 2nd.
We r the mighty Glasgow Celtic n our special club when fully backed by the fans n players on side nothing's out of reach, even if u hit the roof u should always aim for the stars.
Just shows what's possible when u give the manager full backing, choice on player recruitment n money to get the right quality of player.
Hail hail.

Spot on norway1, so proud to be a Tim, team, staff n fans all played their part tonight n honestly never felt at any point we would lose the game, a bit under pressure towards the end but I felt a draw was merited, we contributed a lot to that game n I thought it was a cracking game of football, atmosphere was immense all night, I can barely talk, my throat is goupin, but who cares it's great to be a Tim, as always.

Special mention for Craig Gordon, he played well tonight deserved his place and hopefully his confidence gets a must needed boost.

He saved every shot he should have and conceded when we knew he would.

I'm not going to thank the guy for not dropping a clanger.

Apart from the loss of possession for city's 2nd, although I felt rogic should have been facing the player up and going forward past him as at times he went past them with ease n was excellent.

But Scott brown an absolute captains performance n the broony we all expect to see, he gets better with every game n really glad for him as it wasn't too long ago he was talked about as supposedly finished, far from it.

Well done brendan, a great team performance n the extra quality he's been able to add, dembele, sinclair, toure, has only strengthened our team n were all immense tonight.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Sep 2016 00:20:28
Apologies, I put the ball from rogic but actually meant to put the ball from dembele to brown which led to the 2nd, even still I have nothing but praise for all the players, wee kt was tremendous dr our again n so mature for a young player.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2016 21:05:53
Talk about shooting ourselves in the foot, poor pass from Dembele but Brown knew he was getting a hospital pass and should have been stronger, for the third should have been a better header from Toure but ES should have cleared properly instead of a poor clearance to a City player, no CL points for moral victories.

Well again CG cost us goals. 1st instead of playing to whistle he thought is was offside and didn't try. 2nd just lies on the ground and let's him just walk around him.

As soon as a goal goes in people was on De vries, so better do the same for CG people on here. That's on top of CG kicking it out of bounce.

Dont know if we can blame CG for any of the goals tbh i wouldn't have expected him to do better.

That's the thing with him tho he never makes a save and I think wow how did he get that.

Agree1 Disagree1

28 Sep 2016 21:53:32
I thought Gordon played well
He is a far better shot stopper than the other guy
My only problem is he does not open his mouth
Several times tonight he just needed to call Lustig, Eric or Toure " leave it " and it would have been his ball and panic over.
Now they good stuff
well organized. lustig, Toure, Eric and tierney ALL immense
Rogic1st halt, Bitton what a shift. captains performance from SB
Dembele. keeps getting in position and putting it away
James Forest. revelation. works hard in defense and his final ball getting better
Sinclair great in first half
I would have take a draw before this game with an expectation that we will beat BM at home and get a result away
Europa League after Xmas with a chance to get out of the group stages is a good performance if we can hold it together.

Aaaaaaa dembele/ brown mistake was in middle of the park soooooo CG had a lot of time to see the play.

What about that WIDE OPEN net when CG completely missed the cross and dived out leaving only lustic to save the WIDE OPEN net?

If you come on here and say DE vires should have stop every goal in game he has played. even against barca, then complain about CG mistakes and poor play.

The 3rd goal he palmed it right to middle of box, I'd that was DES then you would be on here complaining about that too. so why not CG?

28 Sep 2016 22:32:19
What a lot of sxxt if you think CG was at fault for any of this goals you know nothing. CG has been poor for 20 months and deserved to be dropped but also deserved to regain his place after a poor replacement.

1st Goal - a lucky deflection leaves the Man City player on the penalty spot man on man with 24 ft of goal to aim at CG get down to them?

2nd Goal - sterling runs beating KT superbly switches feet. Beautifully selling both KT and CG as he turns back in himself. CG going down as he thinks he's taking a pop so covering the shot so I don't think lying down as he walks the ball past him is a fair appraisal.

3rd goal - great movement. Should have been cleared better from defence but Aguero gets in takes a pop CG gets down low and saves and pushes out past penalty spot with Nolito runs in. From that angle it's almost impossible to get it round the post. Aguero is 6 yards out and the save is pure reaction. But Stevie Woods will get CG into training on Monday morning to teach him how to flick that one up over the bar next time. Easy.

As for the stoppage time save that was sheer luck. A one handed push over the. At from a deflected shot from 18 yards. That's so easy every goalie should be getting them.

Not saying CG is a great goalie but credit where credits due and get behind the team when they perform like that. They battled played great football and entertained. Yes players made mistake but it's football that happens

There wasn't a bad performance on the park it was a game to enjoy and be proud of yet someone always wants to focus on the negatives.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2016 22:48:17
The problem lies with Bitton didn't make strong tackle all night does not track back quickly enough. Had wanyama been playing we would havewon 3-0. Yes Dembele got it wrong yes Brown could have done better but you need someone in the centre who could cover the central midfield area.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2016 23:02:36
Tommobhoy that's the point! Ppl always blame DE vires even when we win, or any other player in the team as Ppl think Celtic have the right to win every game and losing or losing a goal they lose their shiat!

DE vires is always wrong to a lot on here yet CG gets no blame, so I ask why does CG not blamed for every goal like DES? Is it cause he is Scottish?

It was a great game! Not being negative just trying to open Ppl eyes and trying to understand how CG after all these years of costing us in CL and EL gets away with it yet an injured new keeper gets beat by the best team in world and great 1 in 1000 goal on weekend gets slated?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2016 23:24:50
Footy, think you're missing the point, you don't bring in a replacement who is no better if not worse than the one you are replacing. We all know CG s deficiencies it's just that De vries obviously is not a solution!

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Sep 2016 23:50:18
Haha 1 in 1000 Goal. Yeah 1 goalie out of 1000 would have let it in. DDV has been poor his shot stopping and decision making haven't been good. So Craig Gordon as I said deserved to dropped but so did DDV I actually think Leo Fasan should be given a chance as I don't think either is doing enough to be an outright No1.

However your point was CG cost us goals tonight which is ball ox he played well and deserved credit there was even a marked improvement in his distribution. He's not been at his bedt but it's not fair just to criticise for the sake of it. Especially after a result like that. It's even more unfair to criticise just because another player is getting criticised.

Watch the goals again and ask yourself honestly. Would you really have expected him to save any of the goals. He ain't inspector gadget

But hey to quote a typical football cliche. It's a game of opinions.

Six out of six wins for Man City in the league with 18 goals scored along the way and Aguero et al look very special. This new Pep fella looks like he might have what it takes as a manager. Expecting the usual fantastic Celtic Park atmosphere but I'm afraid-very afraid. All the best Brendan. C''mon the Hoops πŸ€.

Best of luck to our bhoys tonight. Very tall order against arguably one of the most improved (rich) teams under Pep's management. Realistically I'm hoping hoping hoping gutsier performance and hope for a draw.

We're at the big table dining; but as my sadly departed wee Mammy always drilled into me " you're as good as any and better than many. At least I know our supporters will make it a night to remember for all those players who have the privilege of playing at Paradise. HH and enjoy.

Tonights game.
I don't expect us to get anything from it. As long as we keep it respectable it'll have to do. No-one knows for sure what influence the crowd will have but I suspect City will overcome us even with a full house screaming at them. HH.

I'm the same. It's a bit sad when not getting humped is what we're hoping for. This campaign is all about getting there though. Not in a 'just making up the numbers' sense, but the cash needs to be put right back into the side, to go from strength to strength and get there again - repeat, and see what in-roads can be made.

Although qualification was our objective I do agree that regular heavy defeats or thrashings will do the players more harm than good.
It is very important that we 'turn-up' for the home ties and at least give a good account of ourselves and not stand back and admire them like we did in Barcelona.
It's equally important for the club to continue backing the manager in consecutive 'windows' to allow him to make Celtic as good as we possibly can be with the resources, facilities and funds available, so we can at least compete and enjoy some level of European success.

Rivalries aside folks, here's wishing you all the best tonight. Maybe you can put one over on City and silence the English media.
