regarding the rule changes from the new spfl or whatever it would appear that the triallist rule remains but the need for a certain number of under 21 players has been removed wonder what new club could benefit from these changes also a joke today that the name of the first 2 goals was given in reports as TRIALLIST.

does anyone know why the police wanted the albion rovers v sevco match was moved to another venue what is the point of having a cup draw when the home team need to move the game to another venue {Ed007's Note - Coatbridge hasn't fully recovered from the last invasion earlier this month.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This was another low key story omitted from the msm the concern was potential trouble in the area but just goes to show that this new club appear to be the exception to every rule

Alright everyone, seen you have been linked to Viktor Fischer today, however there is absolutely no chance of him going for 3million, he is the best young talent in Europe and will go onto become one of the very best in the world. I think he would demand a fee of over £20million, so there is no chance of him joining Celtic this Summer. Derk Boerrigter is a decent signing though, if you can keep him injury free he will be a very good player for you, but that will be easier said then done.

Smithy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think he will be a decent signing Smithy, just wondering though with left wing being Sammy's preferred position?

Sammy and Boerrigter both can play centre forward as well so maybe swap them both about (assuming he signs that is)

I think Fischer is a bit out of our price range ha! ~ Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah mrs e sly sports said he was a striker and I like Sammy if left mid more then I do upfront

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Jul 2013 21:28:09
By the sound of things we could be signing the boy from Ajax if so how are we going to accomodate two of our better performers super Joe and big Sammy as that will be 3 great contenders for the left midfield berth? Just maybe penalty box predator to play off Sammy with stokes balde and watt as back up?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Watt has lkeft on loan has he not

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it was in msm that he was maybe being sent out on loan but he hasn't left yet and I see Cardiff preparing bid for Joe so maybe that answers my point?

Given the significance of a Champions League slot, surely we as a club have to speculate to accumulate. I'm not saying go and spend all the transfer fees/last years Champions League money, but we have to aim higher than players like Doyle, Sharp calibre etc.
Year after year, we hear the same old stories about this player and that player but nothing really excites the fans and puts bums on seats.
Yeah we can't offer high quality Scottish league games but Celtic Football Club are a world famous team and have to push the boat out.
I want my club to be miles and miles ahead of Sevco when they return and don't stagnate until that time.
Once again the fans including myself have paid their hard earned money for season tickets and new strip/strips and ticket sales are up, how about rewarding the fans with one or two class signings Mr Lawwell and fill Paradise at every opportunity

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mr lawwell just spent 4 m giving us 100 quid off season tickets to make sure it was a fuller stadium. The signings will come I believe. Andybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Andy, don't kid yourself celtic sold far more tickets this year the loss is not as great as you think. Still good to get the money off!

However I am more than aware that this was due to them not being in the league and our attendences being down last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

@2 not sure how I'm kidding myself? Was stating a known fact! Would so many people have renewed /purchased without the 100 quid off? Andybhoy

Seen this on Boerrigter:-

It seems a deal has been struck between the two clubs and that Boerrigter is ready to start a 3 year contract, pending the results of a medical. The cost of signing the 26 year-old has not been made clear, but it is likely to be in the region of 2-3m.

The Dutch winger has already made his frustration at a lack of first-team action at Ajax known towards the end of last season, stating that a move could be on the cards. Boerrigter joined Ajax from RKC Waalwijk and was expected to achieve great things with the Amsterdam club. However, a persistent back injury and shaky form kept him from making the impact he should have. Even when fit, Boerrigter found that his preferred left-wing position had been taken by Viktor Fischer.

Boerrigter is certainly a talented player, as he proved in a pre-season friendly against his old club RKC in which he scored 3 goals. On his day, his pace is enough to change any game and, when followed up by his adept shooting, he can be deadly around the edge of the box.

Derk Boerrigter scored 5 and assisted 4 last season, starting 17 times

Boerrigter would be a very good signing for Celtic, should tear up the SPL. He doesn't like defending (should fit right in then)

New season new set up new team and still they get all the help. Wild tackles and its play on. Free kick in injury time and surprise surprise the ref blows for half time then books an Albion player for complaining.

When is this going to change. I would hate to be drawn against them in a cup game. We would out play them all over the park and still come away with nothing as they would get every decision.

Just watching the comedy on Alba and sevco have just scored. Needless to say the ref failed to spot a blatant hand ball on the edge of the sevco box which started the move for the goal. He also failed to book a sevco player for a shirt pull, which I thought was an automatic booking.Albion Rovers it must be said are truly bloody awful.

Hi Ed,

I was at the game yesterday and I took my little cousin with me who was very excited to not only watch the game, but watch the players arriving at having his shirt signed etc. When asking Kris Commons(who had his hands full with his two kids) to sign his top the latter was excellent and put off time to do this and chat with the wee man. When it came to our new signing Balde, however, I could have went for him with his disgusting and unprofessional attitude towards the wee man. When asked for an autograph, he firstly snubbed him and then sighed when pressed by me for him to sign the shirt. I can't believe this is the attitude of a new signing who is trying to endear himself to the fans. Not a happy bhoy.

Fergiebhoy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Shocking, I've never had any bother before apart from tryin to get sammi to try and crack a smile but that's just the way he is, Balde will soon get tuned in as its an important part of the day to day things and should be a pleasure, it's early days but I doubt he'll be here long if he doesn't up his effort!

ED007: remember some months ago I posted that moves were afoot to enter the English league system through the back door? A very interesting piece in the Observer might be a pointer to this actually being true.The club named is Celtic Nation a Carlisle based non league club owned by a wealthy Celtic fan, frank Lynch. Some of the quotes are very telling for me.This would of course take some years but reading between the lines it seems this is the goal.The fact it is not in one of our soon to be chip wrapper tabloids is also encouraging.Your thoughts Celts?. green jhedi {Ed007's Note - One of yesterdays rags had a feature on him GJ, I was talking to someone after Mass this morning about an article I had read on CQN (I think it was) about it and he said it was in yesterday's paper.}

No top players will sign for us until they know if we've made the champions league group stages but without a few top signings we may not make the group stages.
That's just the attitude of modern day footballers. All they are interested in is putting themselves in the shop window not the club that pays their wages.

In Today's Sunday Snail it says season ticket sales are up in 5 of the top division teams, with most of the other teams on season ticket sales almost same as last year.
Celtic say their ST sales are up on the 42, 500 of last season, (I got told about 45,000+)
So despite our press pals still going on about missing the downmarket club from Govan our game is in a healthy state without them. hail hail Timalloy

Still no news regarding a proven recognised striker to replace Hooper. According to reports Lenny has claimed the player, or players, we are looking at have not been mentioned in the press. Given the amount of players the press have actually mentioned this will be some trick!

What I find most frustrating is the fact we are doing all this so close to a big European match.I would think the powers that be at Celtic knew, like the rest of us, that Hooper was for the off.So why not make our move sooner? To my mind there are two possible scenarios for this.

#1: We might be experiencing problems attracting players to this country.Sadly most of Europe see Scottish football as being sub standard and, unfortunately, the Hibs result will do nothing to dispel that theory.Yes, we had a magnificent result against Barca and a good CL run, but I feel this is looked on as a bit of a freak result abroad. Players therefore might be waiting to see if we actually qualify for the group stage before signing. This of course is out with our control.

#2: More worryingly is the financial aspect. If we knew Hooper was leaving, were we penny pinching to save an extra wage by waiting for him to leave? I would hope not.The cash generated by last seasons CL run is on the way and we knew that.We also knew Vic would be leaving and there would be a sizeable fee for him. So let's hope we can discount that. Then there is the wage structure. This has been mentioned as being disruptive to the squad.I can understand that thinking but it is flawed. If we buy a guy, with a proven track record, we have to pay him well.As far as I know the upper tier of our wage structure is around £25k per week.I would doubt that out with the major leagues, or the sugar daddy clubs, not many players in Europe will be earning this.A goalscorer is worth this kind of deal.

Peter Lawwell is playing his usual cagey game.We have no reason, at the moment, to doubt what we are being told. But this is a seminal moment for our club.If the worst happens and we drop to the Europa league we still need a striker.Throughout our history we have failed to strengthen from a position of power.Lets not repeat the mistakes of the past.green jhedi

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Jul 2013 13:42:38
@Green Jhedi, good post as always.
I agree most players do not rate our football and will only sign a) if we are in CL group stages or
b) we offer silly money in signing on fees and wages.(which Lawwell will never do)
But GJ it is time for Celtic to increase their top limit for special players (say £30k) if you remember we did it for Henrik (about £35+ if I remember right in his last contract plus a testimonial)
OK board will baulk at this but surely Celtic are clever enough to work out a strategy on the lines of 4/5 top players on these wages with the promise to other squad members if they produce the goods their wages will increase also.
This way Celtic as a club benefits and the players benefit financially. Timalloy

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree and it does ma nut in! The clubs biggest failing has always been complacency after a good season and this time failure to strengthen has been coupled with a fire-sale of talent!
The CL campaign was great and will be remembered, but it should not be taken for granted that we will achieve this every season - no matter what team we put on the park. After all we did drop quite a few SPL points along the way so there is still room for improvement.

What other club would sell arguably, both their best players before the start of a season when we have THREE CL qualifiers to overcome while the squad is finding it's feet and carrying injuries.
Now we are in real predicament with clubs knowing we have real cash so prices will be inflated and we seem to again be scrambling about in hope rather than design.

I know the SPL is a backwater - and Hibs Europa result was a disgraceful reminder of our league's failings.
So we literally have to qualify for the CL group stage to have a sniff at attracting what decent guys are left?
I think we will really miss Wanyama in Europe especially his strength and presence which were awesome.
There are still some very good players at the club but we do need to replace the quality we lose with at least the same or ideally better.

The additions mentioned by NL before the Cliftonville 2nd leg and again this weekend are hopefully forthcoming and are Celtic class - not bargain basement journeymen or rejects.
(eg Doyle or McClean)

If we fail to qualify for the CL group stage consider what an anti climax that will be because of our own fault?

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

I've got reason to doubt what we are being told GJ, it's happened so often before and papering over cracks doesn't take the problem away, we can't keep punching above our weight in the CL, fearing the worst and expecting results at the same time (dilusional fans granted permission).
What yourself and Timalloy have said is pretty spot on, and this would be the worst decision by the board in a long long time to not reinvest properly given that we will have a chance to qualify for the CL for a good while yet, 3 qaulifiers this season, possibly 2 nxt and then maybe back down to 1 in the nxt few yrs?! A goal scorer will usually cost the most but needs to be done, it's not all about money being splashed but we can still show ambition going for the right type of players and not settling for 2nd choice.
We've spent £4.3mil so far and by my reckoning should go over £10mil by the time others come in. 1 problem is Lawwell doesn't think that type of money needs spent to retain SPL title, so it's catch 22 again, money spent wisely could have a team competing in CL groups for nxt 2/3 seasons and potentially at least 15mil a time!!
Our games the worst it's been in a long time so it's hard to get experienced guys in (they don't all need to be 21/22) CL and an increased wage cap might be all we can offer now, given the way the board work I'm not expecting miracles but I do expect a wee bit more.

Bigbadjohn

Agree0 Disagree0

The thing is we all know celtic do there dealing usually under the radar. We need a strike whether for Europe or for spl, I will be surprised if we spend 4+m on a striker that would push our spending to nearly 10m. 10m 4 seasons ago got us over 10 players. Again still a catch 22, great points about our 2 of 4 best players leaving so we need to reinvest with new or better talent 16 or 30 I don't care if they score goals then brilliant.

Ghuys, I do think we will have a striker in b4 Wed. However, forget Finboggason etc as there is NO WAY we are going to spend over £3m on ANYBODY. I have always been a huge supporter of the model we have, buy young, develop. sell on. I am starting to think though that EVERY signing we make cannot be in that bracket. You do need experience to complement the young fitness and hunger. What worries me is that players like Doyle fit into that very category. Surely our staff can get somone from Europe with experience who would do a job even for a year. Dr. Jo gave us Lubo. God bless him.

@Timalloy: I remember Dr Jo being ridiculed but as time has passed it is clear the guy was years ahead of his time. He talked about diet and fitness specialists when Scottish players were still running about pre season. Nice to see he still has a love of Celtic as well. green jhedi

I see Charlie Austin scored 2 today. That dodgy knee must be really holding him back .

I think the knee injury was an excuse for other 'baggage' he would come with.
