So Lenny has expressed an interest in returning to us as manager in the near future.
As much as I adore the guy, I'm no a fan of second returns either as players or managers as it simply never works.
But would you have him back?
Would the board finance it?
I very much doubt it.
"I am Neil Lennon, We are all Neil Lennon".

He didn't say near future. The next manager is David Moyes. My timing may be wrong but it is DM for 3 years.

DM confirmed he's got no interest in the SPFL, his ambition is another go at the EPL.
But I'd go with Rodgers.

If Lenny wants to come back then I would definitely welcome him home. As for returning managers Big Billy came back and win the double in the centenary year for us.

It's sad day when our (supposed) choice is between David Moyes, Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon. It's even sadder when you realize that Lennon has more trophies as a Manager than the other two combined.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 20:35:52
Definitely not Lennon - he doesn't deserve to come back! Also he wanted to leave! I'd prefer Rodgers to Moyes, purely because of the style of football! I'd be surprised if he took it though - he's knocked back a few jobs including Swansea and Valencia! As for Moyes, his stock is going down by the day, he might be desperate for it! Why don't you tell us more info ParadiseWon? There's loads of top managers out a job at the moment, and it's all about timing! I could list 10 I'd be delighted with, all with a good pedigree, we'd have to offer them a top salary though! If the board actually did their job and paid the going rate instead of throwing money out the fecking window on signings like Cole we might get a bit of reputation and respect back! We're in danger of disappearing off the face of the earth in the eyes of Europe!

Neil Lennon inherited a total shambles. He turned things around and got us back on track. He also had his obvious failings. I haven't listed his successes so there's no need to go over his failings we all know what both were. I remember him with fondness as a player and a manager but that's where it should stay. The worrying thing is I believe he left for the same reason Keane didn't take the job. He seen the future playing budget. I think anyone quoting moyes and Rodgers are kidding themselves. We have as much chance of getting guys like that ( not that I want them) as we have of signing the players we are linked with in the transfer window. These managers and players have had a taste of the madness that is the epl and will never come near Scotland. At Celtic they could get 500k per year in England they could get that in a month. It's ok to speculate on managers, but I believe our next manager will be like the players we sign. Spl or championship. Finished in England. Or an unknown from Norway Croatia Denmark somewhere like that.

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Feb 2016 22:43:52
no don't want him back . I supported him when he was with us . Once and once only B Mc Neil was in a different era . Lennon had his time, give R D the same time and let us see if he gets it right . Then go with someone new.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 23:22:46
Prandelli, Rudi Garcia, Bielsa, Favre, Mazzarri, Marcus Weinzierl, Hitzfield, Yakin, Seedorf and Hiddink! 8 of them are currently out a job, and the other 2 will be in 3 months! Well Weinzierl has said he'd like a new challenge then! We think Hiddink will leave Chelsea! Now I'm pretty sure at least half would say no but I'd be delighted with any of them, although I'd prefer one of the older ones! Hiddink had agreed to join us before O'Neill got the job so he knows the club and might fancy it before/ instead of retirement. I doubt it though! I definitely think if we offered a top salary and let him run the club how he wants we'd get at least one!

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 23:37:12
Nice to see a list of options although, as you say, many/ most probably wouldn't be interested.

Of that list, I'd be in favour of Bielsa and in particular Yakim, whom we should have went for 3/ 4 years ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 23:58:07
What we do need is a strong character in charge, at the moment I don't believe we have that, I don't think Ronny has it in him to tell the more senior players a few home truths, then we have his 2nd in command JC who has the ego the size of Europe who I believe would try to tell a few home truths but is not respected enough for anyone to listen . A bad combination in my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Feb 2016 15:37:22
Lmao absolutely not! But reality is if we don't see changes in policies, we could very well see club scrape dregs of the barrel and likes of Lennon unfortunately is a possibility.

No matter how rotten a manager Lennon is, some fans only would want him back cause he falls into celtic minded category. A lot of pi$h.

I see the English teams trying to copy the Barcelona model of playing a defensive midfielder at centre half ie copying macherano I see United with blind and Liverpool with lucas if we were to do it who would we try to put in there brown johansen not baton he is too namby pamby?

28 Feb 2016 20:18:06
I think this is the plan for ES. He looks as though he is going to struggle a bit in the air so perhaps his attributed are more reading the game and playing from the back. I am a bit worried about his lack of pace though.

Yeh sakho did go off but Liverpool started with lucas and sakho in central defence sakho replaced by toure as I said if this is the cool thing to do in world football would we try it and what partnership. I think sviatchenko looks like an old style sweeper in the Willie miller mould?

I thought most people thought that Blind for United was in a blind United defence as United played as if they were Blind . If u haven't got a proper holding defensive midfielder like Lennon, then better have two operating in that area.

28 Feb 2016 11:33:47
Hi Ed, I know you've probably been asked this a million times these last few weeks but I can only apologise if I've missed your answer.

Do you personally think Ronny will still be Celtic manager next season even if we win the double? Not if you would still like him to remain but if you actually think he will?

It's just for me even if he was to win the double he should still bow out with his head high in that circumstance imo.

So far this season we have dropped 19 points domestically in what should be a 'one horse race' let's not suggest otherwise, 5 draws and 3 defeats and it's not even March is unacceptable imo and I'm pretty sure we'll be dropping some more points towards the rest of the season. When you look at for example the Greek and French top leagues, that's the very definition of a 1 horse race and I believe that it should be the same here, I'm not suggesting we're better that Olympiacos and PSG obviously but as budgets go it's comparable to their situations domestically and ours. We should be so far ahead of the rest domestically that imo we should really be sitting at least 12-15 points clear by this stage, the fact we're stuttering over the line and relying on Aberdeen to slip up is worrying for me when we shouldn't even be thinking about what they're doing.

This is without even getting into our European performances and our performance in the cup semi against Ross County.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed007's Note - Yes.}

28 Feb 2016 13:08:25
I also think he will be there as the board have supported him and backed him in the January 'window', so barring domestic disaster, it seems very likely he will be here next season.
However, I do share your concerns about our decline in form, confidence and consistency and I think a lot of supporters are looking for a vast improvement in the teams performances.
The opinion seems to indicate that there will be a clear-out in the summer as we obviously have a surplus of midfield players and others who are just not doing it on the park.
I have already posted about the under-performers among our 'senior' players and I am worried about the moral and attitude within the squad being a big factor in our current situation; because as you say - if Aberdeen had not dropped so many points lately we could be in real bother?

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 13:21:06
To play devil's advocate I recall Lennon's first season in charge after Rangers died and we only got a points haul of 79. That season we lost 7 games and drew 7 games. This also happened in a "one horse" league.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 13:25:27
I thought Moyes was taking over?

Agree1 Disagree1

28 Feb 2016 13:59:04
Rab was that not the season we got to cl last 16. So the vast majority of the fans were happy with that as well as winning the league. Not sure if we won the Scottish that year as well. The place just seemed a lot happier and more upbeat back then. Just seems a very unhappy place just now. Lot of fans not happy with the manager and the style. Lots of fans not happy with the board. Some not happy with the team. Or the back room staff. Everyone seems to have a problem with someone within the club. I can't remember anyone coming out and saying I am totally happy with every aspect of the football club just now. It's also making for a lot of tension and unrest with supporters amongst ourselves.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 14:28:56
I think ThePoeticPatient may apply, he seems to know it all.

Agree2 Disagree2

28 Feb 2016 14:36:05
Yes it was the season that we got to CL last 16 but the point still stands, i. e. some fans are not being consistent when it comes to assessing different managers.

I should also point out that in Lennon's first two seasons, he only win 1 league title, had one season with no European football because he got pumped out at the first hurdle of CL qualification and the second season he did not get out of UEFA group stages and only got into groups because Sion got banned.

This is no condemnation of Lennon because I thought he done a decent job while he was in charge. However, when you compare his record with Deila's for the same period you will notice that Deila has actually done better. Not only that Deila had a harder task as he did not know the club or the players and did not get half a season to assess things at first hand.

Agree1 Disagree3

28 Feb 2016 14:51:57
But I think a lot of it comes down to how people are feeling. The club was low when Mowbray was sacked. Lennon took over and came close in his first full season there was a real sense of anticipation hence the atmosphere against Motherwell when we were losing the league. It was electric. We went on to win the league the following year with rangers in the league. And the year you mention with no Rangers we won the league and got to the cl last 16.
So at that point no one was talking about sion or what had went on in the past because there was a real feeling of progression from Mowbray to cl last 16. Now where is the optimism. Where is the progress under rd. You may be using hard facts and rd may show up better with facts. But if you are a supporter of the club and you aren't happy you are well within your right to say so.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 15:27:29
I'm not disputing that people are entitled to their opinion but it is my prerogative to disagree or agree with it. I also accept the CL campaign that season helped cover up the team's below performances in the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 15:38:08
NL had an infinitely harder task than RD when he took over, the club was a shambles after the Mowbray project. OLD rangers had won the league for the two previous seasons ( I know he had the last eight league games but the league was gone and he restored some pride in the team. He was left a collection of loan players and had to build almost a complete team on the back of the money from the McGeady sale. RD did not have see challenges, he inherited a team which had won the league by thirty points and had serious challenger. I am afraid he was the cheap choice as the board wanted further downsizing. Now I don't give him any leeway due to this, the information I have is that not needing a significant transfer budget was the major point he used to sell hi, self to the board. He stressed that he would bring players through and develop them into champions league players. I haven't seen much of that.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 15:43:57
That's all I'm saying mate of course you can disagree if you choose. You said you were playing devils advocate by showing the hard facts of the first two seasons under rd and nl. All I am doing is having a discussion with you as to why the fans may have allowed more room for league slip ups under nl as they were still buzzing from what had happened on the wed. Or they were just pleased to be back on top after the Mowbray disaster. Under rd for my mind anyway we are in a rapid period of decline and everyone seems to have their opinion on who is at fault
Hense the tension and unrest.

Stellar comment Iain. Your best yet, which to be fair is damming with faint praise, but still.

If I comment, or post, anyone/ everyone on this board has three options: ignore, engage or ignore and post a snide comment elsewhere that means little to nothing. Clearly you favour the latter. Good for you. As I said, stellar.

Agree3 Disagree1

28 Feb 2016 18:04:23
I really think it's immaterial who was better or worse as Celtic manager; it's about Celtic results, performances and players and at present all three are causing concern.
OK. the manager carries the can, but given the circumstances of our league, our facilities, resources and budget - we are well behind what supporters and shareholders expect and pay good money for.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 11:08:55
No doubt I'll get shot down in flames for saying this but I'll man up and take the heat.

So back to my point, the last half of last season I thought we played some cracking football and teams struggled to deal with our intensity. At that time all the players were working hard by closing down opponents and moving off the ball to make themselves available for the pass.

Fast forward a year and only some of our players are playing at that intensity, while others are hiding out on the pitch. So what has happened to cause this change in some of our players?

If rumours are to be believed there is division in the squad and some players have downed tools. What has caused that division is anyone's guess but it is clear something ain't right.

I know most of the vocal people on here wasn't to point the finger at Deila (I'm sure he merits as one of the blame) but I think the players are just as much to blame, if not more so.

Here is what some might consider controversial, I would get rid of the guilty players before I got rid of the manager. The players I believe to be the root cause are: Brown, mulgrew, commons, Forrest and stokes. Luckily 3 of them are coming to the end of their celtic careers but I would do everything possible to get rid of commons and brown and if I couldn't I would banish them to play with the development squad. (He said getting off his soap box)

Believable1 Unbelievable4

28 Feb 2016 13:17:45
I think you generally find RabMac that clubs find it easier to sack 1 manager rather than 4 or 5 players.
It's not easy to sell players who aren't performing, and sacking them could cost an awful lot of money, particularly if there are several of them.
With a manager it's only 1 compensation package.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 13:17:52
I think Brown is on side Rab. He's spoken publically a few times of his support for RD, that the players owe him etc. Which, you're right, a few do, and haven't been performing for one reason or another. Said a while ago, its just as much about getting rid of some now than getting new players in.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 13:18:52
Would get rid of brown offers nothing going forward. Not a forward thinking player. I would keep mulgrew ahead of ambrose and boyata and play him defence but he wouldn't be first choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 13:21:24
I agree about those players Rab, none of them are as good as they think they are! I said something similar a week ago when you said Brown was playing well, which I thought was bizarre! A lad said the other night about us getting kicked all over the pitch on Friday night and nobody getting a hold of them or dishing a bit out themselves! No leaders, the team is full of 6/ 7 out of 10 players, and by God there's about 30 of them! The only pass marks for this season go to Teirney and Griffiths. Rogic has done it over a short period, only in the SPL though, - I want to see players doing it over 5 years, that's when players should be judged! For 2 players to get pass marks has to be the biggest brass neck in history! I like Ronny but he's not the man for me! I take no delight saying that! If we played in Europe tomorrow I don't think he'd have learned a thing! I don't rate Boyata, but for him to slate him the other night was also bizarre! I want an experienced manager, maybe someone in their 50's or even older. If we offered the wages we would save on the players you mentioned I'm sure we could get someone with pedigree! I don't really want Moyes but he was earning £2 million per year at Sociedad, we should be willing to at least go to that figure!

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Feb 2016 13:56:28
While I do rate Brown as a player and think he has improved technically under Deila, he is currently way below the form of the last few seasons and against Hamilton he looked like he was trying to lose us the match. This is why I was inclined to think he is part of the schism.

You say I claimed Brown was currently playing well but I have no recollection of ever saying that. However, I do remember saying that he had improved under Deila and I still believe that but I cannot defend his current form.

Our players and manager are been drained from players and manager by abuse on forums and from loud mouths in stands .
Not only has Celtic this problem, but Aberdeen " has set up a Moaners section "
Maybe we should have similar sections and sure we can have a laugh .

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Feb 2016 11:03:48
Well, we got out of jail again with Aberdeen drawing at home. I have always thought we will win the league due to our opponents inconsistencies. I am not a Ronni hater, far from it. I think when he first took the reigns he had a good mental approach as to how the players should conduct themselves in their training regimes. The team looked fitter and stronger. What the hell has happened then? Are the management team losing the dressing room? The performance against Hamilton was lacklustre to say the least. Not one of the players played to their abilities and they looked uninterested and sluggish. Boyata comes in for special criticism. For weeks I have watched a player actually go backwards in his progress. His tackle on Morris was a desperate attempt at a player who had left him standing.
Ronni is a good coach but that is all he will ever be at Celtic. He is tactically clueless and don't even start me on Collins. I think we should respect Ronni to manage Celtic until the end of the season but be looking now for his replacement who will be ready to try and get us a coveted CL spot. He is so far out of his depth it is blatantly obvious.
So, thanks Ronni, but it is time for you and your management team to go.

Coaches coach, managers manage. I was meaning the philosophy he had initially brought in with fitness, diet and mental attitude which seem to be lacking now. That makes me think he is losing the co-operation of the players. We need to be on a firm footing for next season as we all know the nasty mob are coming back up and will be up for having a go at us. We should have been acres ahead of everyone by now but in reality, we are going backwards. We cannot use the excuse of how pish a league we play in because it is what it is and we still have a vastly superior budget to anyone else in Scotland.
There should be no excuse at all for that dross we seen on Friday night.

With Cheltenham just about 2 weeks ago I thought I would steer the punters on here over to the football rumours bet pages and then click "horse racing" the editor over ther is ED023 and he researches his horse tips, over last 2 years he has been quite successful with winners and good priced each way tips.
My other advice is go for bookmakers offering 4/ 5 places and treble odds one winner if doing a Lucky 15. In the past I have also been successful using these bets and even the each way bets can give you a healthy return.
Now to contradict myself, although I like big priced each way bets, the first day at Cheltenham is usually for favourites so put the favourites in an accumlator or lucky 15 bet.

Apparently though the quickest bit of access to all your texts messages, contacts etc is through the fb app and by clicking agree to the t&c when downloading you say cheers yeah have a look. I was alarmed that I was getting updates for apps that didn't show on my app list (bloatware) so looked into it and asked questions. Was told that directly from an enforcer of law that it is the easiest access they have to skim your phone as easy as you do!
So yeah if you worry about that sort of thing and wrap your head in tinfoil more often that your Sunday roast then go down the rooted phone route.
