Think he would be better than what we have edd just a suggestion.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed007's Note -You might be right, I don't watch Scottish lower league football so I wouldn't know. Do you watch a lot of Hibs matches?}

28 Dec 2015 19:03:37
Seen him a few times edd. he reminds me of leigh. he has grown up a bit seems to have knuckled down. we have good talent here in scotland whether people like it or not remind me where the lions were all from again. we have wasted ten to fifteen million on rubbish over the last ten years. thing about scottish players is they have been brought up playing here. if we signed messi do u think he would be good playing inverness on a wed night in the snow?

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Dec 2015 20:04:01
Yes I think he probably would be.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - People said that and are still saying it about Scott Allan.}

28 Dec 2015 20:10:12
Maybe celtic689 :) . I'd give Messi a place even if he was wearing two jackets and a pair of snow boots.
That said I don't fully agree with the amount of talent Scotland produce. We have a couple of guys that cut it in the epl in mf but they aren't on the same level as guys from other nations down there creativity wise. I'm hard pushed thinking about any of our internationals that have done anything abroad in better footballing leagues in years and it is sad. Till we produce better homegrown players or don't miss out on the best that slip the net then I'd rather have players from the four corners than be sentimental.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Dec 2015 20:15:36
Just to clarify my comment was about whether messi would be any good playing Inverness in the snow on a Wednesday. I've no idea who the initial comment was about.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Dec 2015 20:19:03
We have signed or 'borrowed' some garbage in the last few years - some of them I can't even remember the names? Miko? Braffheid? Brozak? Berget, Balde, Blackman, Bangura, El Kaddouri, Murphy, Kapo, Lassad, Gershon, Moukoyolo, Scepovic, Pukki, Wakaso Blacket, Tonev and a few forgettable others.
The list may go on to include the likes of GMS and Ciftci and a couple more?
Of course we have signed or loaned some gems in the same period, but the amount of unsuccessful signings we have made recently is the reason I do not look forward to transfer windows and worry about the the clubs whole transfer and recruitment strategy from scouting to contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Dec 2015 20:24:00
celtic689, I have to disagree with you about Scottish players, I think our leagues up here are of a very poor standard at the moment, there are no Scottish teams who can get through the qualifying rounds of any European competition, and the national team are the only one of the home countries not to qualify for the European championships.
In the last year we have signed 2 Scottish players from Dundee united, but I don't think these players are any better than what we already had, Scott Allan was supposed to be Hibs best player, but so far he doesn't look anything special in our squad. In my opinion, if you keep buying players from Dundee united and Hibs, then you just become Dundee utd or Hibs, I don't think that's setting the bar very high.
The Lisbon lions were from a different era, when Scotland used to produce some really good players, those days have gone at present, I think Celtic should be looking further afield for talent, we should be looking to bring in players who will actually make us better, and not players who make no difference to us, but weaken any competition we have in our own League.

Agree2 Disagree1

28 Dec 2015 20:56:25
Robson,Caldwell, Kennedy, mcmanaus,pearson,Hartley,maloney all replaced or where in the process of replacing the seville team and gaps left by departing players afterwards . Few of those guys played a part and were the best we had as a nation to offer but we didn't advance from where we were then as a club and I don't see the point in having a strong scottish scottish core now unless they are good enough. The same applies to our current squad.
It doesn't matter where a player is from.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Dec 2015 21:00:08
I'd have a few of those guys back now over some in our squad

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Dec 2015 21:07:20
I think if Ronnie had been in charge of the Lisbon Lions, they would have never have gotten anywhere, he would have rotated the squad so much that, the team would have never have had a chance to gell, he would have kept the creative players on the bench, maybe giving them 3 or 5 minutes at the end of the game, like he's doing with Allan, in favour of the more productive (in his eyes ) players, and play other players away from their best position, like he's doing with Armstrong.

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Dec 2015 21:31:50
Aindoh. The players in the lisbon team shoulder to shoulder were some of the best in European football at that time. Stein was one of the best managers of that time. Come on mate. It's a different galaxy.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Dec 2015 21:54:50
They became the best because they were allowed to play together and grow and develop together, and were coached properly and played to their strengths, they grew in confidence and what they lacked in skill was made up in self belief, they were a team first and foremost, i think if Ronnie was in charge, and if he had the same pool as Stein, he would maybe have picked only three of the team that Stein ended up picking.

Agree1 Disagree0

28 Dec 2015 22:26:01
You forgot Boerrigter matet, Celtic have had 3 naffish Dutch left wingers over the years (Petta, Blinker) and he is the third best .

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2015 04:39:38
bit harsh on petta there lol he gave me one of my most enjoyable moment's in an old firm match during the 6-2 game where he done ricksen so many times he never even made it to half time before being hooked.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2015 10:29:19
RD would probably have played jinky as a holding midfielder and Bertie as outside right. Seriously the majority of the Lions had been there for a few years before big Jock arrived and had little success. He made them the team. RD doesn't seem able to make this group of players a team.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2015 14:42:09
Jock Stein once experimented with playing Big Billie as centre forward .
It didn't work but it didn't mean Big Jock was a bad manager . He also dropped T Gemmill from a League Cup final against Parthick Thistle we got stuffed . Wee Jimmy replaced J Craig injured ( only one sub ) didn't make Jock a bad manager .
Imagine if RD had a squad like that and made some of decisions that Jock made the young uns now would have filled with so much despair and hatred that they would lose control of themselves.

29 Dec 2015 13:47:07
I get the feeling he was glad to get out when he did and would not want the hassles and pressures with the job again - on and off the field - although he is brilliant with the media and they would never get away with half their antics.
Director of football would be ideal and could even allow him to keep the Scotland job, although the SFA would not like that one bit.

29 Dec 2015 14:43:43
If he did come back I hope those that want him back would do more to silence his abusers from within our attendees at matches.

{Ed007's Note - Why do we need any more players from the lower leagues of Scotland?}

28 Dec 2015 20:18:15
I'd take him definitely. Seen him about a dozen times and he's more often than not a standout. His record against the Govan mob is terrific as well which is always a bonus 👍🏻.

The SMSM seem to think that the Championship is the best league in Scotland Some of our fans seem to agree .

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2015 17:45:35
I doubt anybody on here thinks that Old Bhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2015 18:18:48
They watch it. And recommend players from it . In addition many share the SMSM views about the SPL champions and leaders.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2015 19:32:45
I've watched Hibs and Rangers play a few times because they're usually entertaining games with a bit of an edge but the standard of league is worse. Jason Cummings is a better player than Ciftci in my opinion, he's versatile, works harder and scores more goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2015 23:21:31
If you put a player in a low enough league he will probably score .
From reading here I thought Cliftci was a cart- horse with tortoise speed yet on Sunday he out paced the Hearts left back who just managed to get him tripped .

I wonder who gets most encouragement from his supporters Cummings or Cliftci .
Does Cummings hear groans when the ball goes near him

A player without confidence is easily marked, and doesn't achieve much
A confident player will take on the world and achieve much .

Agree0 Disagree1

30 Dec 2015 12:02:06
I'm not saying Ciftci can't do a job for Celtic, I'm saying Cummings is a better player, regardless of playing in the Championship. He's not in that league because that's his level, he's in that league because Hibs got relegated before he was in the first team. Hibs have been responsible for producing probably the best youngsters out of all the teams in Scotland over the past decade or so and for me Cummings can be just as good, if not better, than Riordan or Fletcher. In my opinion he could immediately replace Forrest as he has a far better end product.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 14:22:13
We see how good he will turn out Kevbhoy who do you support?
You won't be expecting a job as a scout by judging a player after watching a low division game on TV .
Personally I love Celtic too much to watch lower League football.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 22:16:44
Not looking for a job Old Bhoy but I reckon I know enough about football to know a decent player when I see one. I don't understand how your love for Celtic would affect your ability to watch other teams or leagues but the fact that I have seen him play multiple times would suggest I'm better placed than you to comment on his ability and potential. Although I respect your right as a fan to have higher hopes than a Championship player.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Dec 2015 23:12:45
Kevbhoy, you must be exceptional. Every top club have maybe hundreds of scouts, not sitting on their arse listening to comments from either failed managers or else people who hadn't the confidence to become managers, and be influenced by these nobodies . The clubs actually spend money sending their scouts to watch a specific player or maybe maximum of two players . The scouts come away from that match and usually wouldn't have an idea of how other players perform . Different scouts watch the prospective player up to head scout or manager before club make an approach Yet you know exactly from watching on Tv whether a player is the next Fletcher .
( I would suggest most young players would cast their aspirations higher than Riordan, remind me who has he starred for over the last 2/ 3 years .

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Dec 2015 01:05:08
Nobody for the past 2/ 3 years but he's the SPL's 3rd highest goalscorer so I'd say that's a fairly decent level to aspire to. I don't really know what your issue is here Old Bhoy (as always) . Are you saying I'm wrong about him being a good player because I'm not a scout? Is my opinion not as valid as anybody else's? I happen to think he's a good player having watched him and been impressed and you seem to be intent on disagreeing without having ever seen him. I don't see the point in anything you've posted on this thread.

Billy McNeil: "Yes, I believe we could. "
Interviewer: "What do you reckon would be the score? "
Billy McNeil: "We would probably win 1-0."
Interviewer: "Why such a small margin? "
Billy McNeil: "In fairness, most of us are in our seventies now FFS. ".

{Ed007's Note - Free Ibrox Ticket

28 Dec 2015 16:26:57
Ed007, I have a couple of season tickets through my work that I use to take customers etc to the game. Half the time I can't give them away!

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - For Celtic Park? Good! They're obviously not very good supporters and we're better off without those types at games but I hope you remember that when they're all on the phone for future big games.
If you around the Hamilton area I can get rid of them for any game for you, I know plenty of people that can't afford to go to games and are delighted to get the chance now and again.}

28 Dec 2015 16:45:23
I will remember that for future games. You have got to concede that both the attendance figures and atmosphere are poor. It's not as bad when the old board were in place but it's not significantly better!

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - Too many of our supporters turn up and expect to be entertained by the Green Brigade and they see it as the lads in 111's job to provide the atmosphere.
You have to remember that you can't tweet, take selfies or run back and forward to the pie stalls AND be expected to support your team - as long as the social media world knows they're at the game it doesn't matter if the players do.
It also doesn't help that you have Police Scotland swarming all over the support with cameras gathering evidence to back up the scumbag grasses and all the panty wetters amongst our support.
All this best supporters in the world is garbage - even Malmo put us to shame over there. We've got far too many idiots in our support and my idea of who the idiots are is probably very different from most peoples.}

28 Dec 2015 17:47:13
We need a miracle when it comes to signing a player that is a big name that could get the fans going. It would make all the difference in the world. Even Pep could only take our project signings so far. I'm sick to the stomach of our current model. The board have to be replaced with people who have the club at heart and are prepared to spend a few quid once in a while!

www.thekanofoundation.com/

28 Dec 2015 20:56:17
I think although the green brigade can be great, on most occasions they sing the same boring songs (a number of which have no or one word) . Before the green brigade more people started singing from different parts of the ground. also when they boycotted a game a while back I felt there was more effort made by other fans (who don't get a UEFA fine 3 times a season) . If the Green Brigade forgot all their crap nonsense the atmosphere may improve. Just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Well when they're trying to do the work of 60,000 a few lines may have been crossed, the same lines that don't exist for other clubs. Maybe if the board backed the supporters more there wouldn't have been 3 fines.}

28 Dec 2015 21:14:30
I've noticed more and more females at the games, it's not a place for woman if you ask me.. Not with the language that goes on! They also don't sing and that takes away from the atmosphere.

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Dec 2015 21:28:10
Maybe if they weren't total clowns there wouldn't have been any fines! If the minority of them want to act like hooligans they will be treated like hooligans.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You've had a bit of a sheltered life pal if you think the GB are football hooligans! I'd rather stand with 50 of them and watch my team than 50,000 panty wetters who are too worried about what the papers or some slabbering knuckledragger opposition fans say about them.}

28 Dec 2015 22:58:10
They're not hooligans, they're wee wannabe hooligans who like the attention too much. again it's a minority, but you have to admit some of them do bring a lot of bother with them.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Our fans get fines for flares and banners while other clubs get away with far worse in Germany, Italy, Turkey and most Eastern European leagues every week. They like the attention that much it's a bit of a 'secret' who's in it btw, for all you know I could be on of the organisers or anyone else who posts on here.
Don't get the GB mixed up with the wee diddy wannabe casuals who hang onto their coat tails and think they're a ticket because their mammy buys them a SI jumper. If you listened to them all you'd think 111 held 25,000.}

29 Dec 2015 14:59:42
The Rangers v Hibernian encounter yesterday was not merely a game of football. It was an opportunity for tens of thousands of like- minded people to do what they do best . Sing racist sectarian bigoted vile songs and chants safe in the knowledge that the Strathclyde police would turn a blind ear to it ( as they too would have been there singing if they hadn't been working ) Referee Madden wouldn't write a note ( he travelled on Rangers supporters buses until recently, sang them all. ) SFA will ignore ( as with everything else secret 5 way agreement) ,
To compare both sets of fans is really strange, from time to time approx 1,000 from G B goaded into singing, things better not, to the vast majority of orange men and whatever.
